Aubrey and Cham - I hope that things improve for you guys soon. It's good to see that you're feeling atleast a little better Aubrey. We're almost there. I bet that everything will work out with the finances. You're almost done with school and hopefully you'll find a job right away. I'm going to check out the book you mentioned. I've been reading 10 Conversations You Must Have Before Getting Married It's good but a lil too much psychology talk. I'll check out the 1001 Questions...

My interview date is in 11 days and I'm already stressed. I know that I have all my documents, and I know that USEM in France is not a hard one. But, I can't be relaxed... I will just try to not smoke too much. Good luck on your diet Kiristen, I am on diet also, Red Robin did bad things on my a$$ sad.gif But I did great, I lost 6 kgs in 3 months smile.gif (13 pounds) YAY !
Dillon I hope that you will get your packet4 soon. I got mine 6 days after I sent back the packet3 !
cdneh, do you know what kinda job you wanna get in the US ?

Don't stress out about it. I know its easy to say that but Jeremy said that the interview is a breeze. Just have all your documents in order, maybe with little post it notes. They didn't even look at all the info that we had ready. And they returned some of the stuff (didn't put it in the mysterious brown envelope). You'll do great. What time of the day is your interview?

Congrats on your weight loss! The diet and exercising has been working out for me. I haven't had any thai food in awhile but I'm holding out for 4 more lbs. Then I'm celebrating with some In 'N Out (cheeseburger). So far I lost 6lbs since New Year's but I've been going to the gym nearly everyday. If you're looking for a good, easy workout when you move to the US, I'd reccommend 24 hour Fitness Fit-lite. Only 30 minutes, super easy.

lol. hahaha. nothing new for me hehehe. im just waiting for another month or 2 before I start looking for an apartment in San Francisco. Just preparing for the move: saving $$ but also buying appliances, looking at furniture, losing weight for the "honeymoon period" (when you stay in bed all day and eat junk cuz youre sooooo in love lol)...waiting for midMay...

wish i could come with good news...

my fiance got denied today sad.gif

she was in the US illegally since she was really really young and left at the age of 18...she's now 21 and has been in Costa Rica for 2 years

Today they told her that she has to have been in Costa Rica for three years before she would be eligible to come to the U.S...her three years in Costa Rica comes up this December...we've been going thru some problems too because of the long-distance relationship really straining us.

i'm usually an optimistic person...but December seems so far away, and i'm not sure if we can make it.

sad.gif

I am sorry. This is really unfortunate. I'd encourage you guys to hold on. The distance is hard but December is not so far away. If you guys can tough it out, you'll have the rest of your lives to be together. I hope that you can work it out.

Can you reapply this summer? It take about 6 months to get an NOA2. By the time you get the NOA2 it'll be December and the 3 year ban will be up. Could shave some time off the wait and you'd be 6 months ahead than if you waited until December to reapply.

That is weird ! Did he try to call them ? At least they said "we HAD" so the problem is maybe resolved and he will have his interview date soon!

I am so scared that Johny is not going to be approved. He was a student here and technically is not supposed to come back to the United States for two years. And it wont even be a year yet until June. I dont think that will make them deny him but you never know and with my lovely luck they will deny him because of it.

Is this because of a J1 visa? 2 year residency requirement? If so, you can get a waiver for that. I don't know that much about it but maybe post in k1 forum for some more info.

Hey guys,

I'm filing right now the DS-156 online. When I began to write the dates of my previous visits to the USA I found out that I made a mistake on the DS-230 that I already sent to the embassy for my packet 3. I wrote FROM 12-2007 TO 03-2007 instead of 03-2008, do you think that it is a big deal ? What should I do ?
I went 8 times to the USA from 2003 to present so I got lost in my dates sad.gif

Oh yes, and I don't have enough space to write my last travel to the US, it is an online document so I can't add a sheet like I did for the DS-230. What did you do if you had the same problem ? Thanks

Juliette, This is Jeremy's answer to your question about DS-156:

I would say that she has to answer all questions in the fields of the DS 156, if something is too long in Questions 29, 30 or 31 the pdf generator used on the website will generate an automatic "(See page 3)" at the question and will fill out page 3 with what does not fit on the form

I hope that helps.

On the 2nd question - Jeremy put "please see attached sheet" in that space and then listed all the trips on an additional page and attached it to the DS-230. Worked fine.

Is it normal ? It left the NVC last wednesday (14th). When I saw the other french like Kiristen and Jeremy, it takes 5 days to go from NVC to Paris...
I begin to lose my mind, so tired of this K1 sad.gif

Juliette I wouldn't worry too much about it. I never called DOS to check on it. I used the DHL trick thingy to figure out when it arrived in Paris. It could be that it is at the embassy but hasn't been logged in to their system yet. That's probably it. I say do the DHL thing to check to see if it has arrived yet. Sometimes they'll say "your hardcopy file hasnt arrived yet" which really means that they haven't processed it yet. The USEM in Paris is pretty fast. I bet you'll get p3 by the end of next week or the beginning of the next.

Noi is here -- safe and happy. We spent a couple of days in NYC before arriving back in Maryland. However, she had a horrible experience in immigration with rude staff at JFK. Absolutely refused to issue a temporary EAD (woman said she was too busy. Noi said she spent two hours eating and joking with a fellow immigration official). Also, I believe there was a document (?) that Noi should have been issued and wasn't.

As a USC, is there a USCIS number I can call to complain?

So I just got this email from Sebastian. I haven't had time to do any research, but do any of you know what he's talking about?

"Subject: I may be able to work from the day I arrive in the USA!
https://secure.ssa.g.../lnx/0100203500

"The following sections list nonimmigrants, by alien class of admission codes, who are authorized to work in the U.S. without specific authorization from DHS. The person's I-94 will not have the DHS employment authorization stamp and the alien will generally not have an EAD."

K-1 Visa is on that list. Perhaps that means I will be able to work from day 1? I'm going to investigate this further.

How exciting! I love you xxx:"

Any ideas?

Ok super interesting. I think you should post this on the AOS forum so we can get some input from other members. I'll have to look into this because that'd be awesome if we don't need an EAD.

Dear Koakland,

I made some research... So, we are supposed as french people to do the "publications des bans" 2 months before the wedding date if you want your wedding to be official in France also. It is a big surprise for me I have to admit cuz' I didn't know it.
They say that if you get married without doing this "publication des bans" the consular in L.A or S.F (for you) will maybe ask for an interview with the couple for a few questions, and they will check if the marriage is acceptable.
I sent an email to the guy in charge of that kinda case in LA and I will let you know informed.
Jamie and I will get married in Vegas middle of march, so it is too late for us to do the publication des bans. Damn ! If I knew this before !!!!
If I begin to put all the documents they need from me and Jamie together it will take at least 2 weeks, so #### the publication des bans. I'm so tired of all this process, K1, publication des bans, AOS etc... You can't imagine !!!!

LOOOOOOOOL ok. Let me know what they say. Thanks for researching it for me smile.gif

Big congratz Nick!!! I sure hope i will be in your boat real soon.

I have a question about my i-134. I got my 2008 w2 yesterday and it shows i make sufficient funds to support my fiance. Do I just make a copy of it and send it with the i-134 or do i have to get it filled with a accountant and then send it to her? It states on it that i have made over the poverty line to support her. People also said send my 2007 tax return but that only shows i made 10,000 because i just started my job in august of 2007. What should i do?

I say send your fiance a copy of your 2008 w2 with the i-134 along with your previous tax returns. I'm not sure why you'd need an accountant's help.

I'm excited for you Juliette and for everyone where ever you are in the process. I think I'm most excited for Nick though who has the added blessing of the little one. smile.gif

Juliette, are you going to do the publication des bans? I want to do it but it'll hold up my wedding day plans by a month sad.gif

In France ? No, I didn't even think about it. I thought that la publication des bans was when you get married in France, your names and blablabla are on the wall at the "mairie". Do we have to do that if we get married in the US ?

Apparently you do -- well you can kinda skip it and do the transcription something something but I guess you're supposed to which is the reason why I'm getting married a month after Jeremy gets here and not right away. tongue.gif They talked about it last summer on the France/America thread. Here is a link to the French Consulate in San Francisco where they talk about it. Jeremy says that we have to do it to have our marriage recognized in France. Maybe you can read it and give me a second opinion smile.gif http://www.consulfra...e-de-mariage-et

Congrats on having your fiancee here. Sorry about the harassment and rudeness of the JFK immigration people. I'm too busy to give you work authorization. That is BS.
