K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNotarized taxes? Form I-134

I also filed my tax returns electronically. I printed the entire tax return, signed the electronic filing page and had my signature notarized.  My father is an attorney so having an unlimited amount of documents notarized was not a problem for me.  Notarizing an electronically submitted tax return is a bit unorthodox so personally I wouldn't be too concerned.  Worst case is they ask you to do it and you submit after the interview.

The Jerusalem Packet 3 instructions for the I-134 states:

"Individuals in the United States who desire to furnish sponsorship for an applicant in the form of an affidavit of

support should use Form I-134, affidavit of support, available at: http://www.uscis.gov/i-134 Sponsors may also
elect to furnish a statement in the form of an affidavit sworn to before a notary public or other official competent to Version: 3/17/2011
administer an oath, setting forth his or her willingness and financial ability to contribute to the applicant?s support
and reasons, in detail, for sponsoring the applicant. The sponsor?s affidavit should include:"

The instructions then list pretty much everything that is in the I-134.  To me this means you can complete the I-134 or notarize your own version of an affidavit of financial support that contains the items listed.  Again, worst case is they ask you to have the form notarized and you submit it after the interview.

I had a pretty good experience at the Consulate.  Prepare to be there for a few hours.  If you want to attend with your fiancee, email the consulate first asking permission.  The woman outside first wouldn't let me in, but then I showed her an email from the Consulate stating that I could attend and then she let me in.  The interview itself was pretty short.  The interviewer asked me how we met, when I proposed, if my fiancee served in the military (your fiancee probably wont be asked that question), where I live, what I do, and maybe one or two other questions.  It may be a slightly more complicated process since your fiancee is not Israeli, but I can only speak from personal experience.  If you have any other specific questions, feel free to message me.  Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNotarized taxes? Form I-134

My fiancees interview in Jerusalem was on 9-9-2013.  I submitted a notarized I-134 (which the officer said didn't need to be notarized, but better safe than sorry), notarized 2011 and 2012 tax returns (he only took the 2012 and again said it didn't have to be notarized), W-2, and letter of employment.  I had a lot of other documents such as bank statements, stock accounts, deed, etc, but the officer told me the tax return, W-2 and employment letter were enough.  I make a pretty decent living so if you are closer to the minimum salary requirement, they might ask for more.

The officer who took my forms didn't seem to care one way or another if they were notarized or not.  I don't want to tell you to forget about notarizing them and then get a different officer who wants them to be notarized.  If you have the means, I would notarize the I-134 and 2012 tax return just to be safe.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsInterview question

You'll get a letter in the mail containing the date/time.  You can also email them and ask if they can email it to you.  It took weeks for the packet 3 and interview letter to arrive in the mail for my fiancee so we ended up emailing the consulate often.  In general, they were pretty responsive.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsInterview question

If you haven't received packet 3 from the consulate yet, here is a link to it online.  http://photos.state....-applicants.pdf

Fill out Form DS-2001 (4th page in Packet 3) and mail or email it to the consulate.  The Jerusalem consulate will then schedule the interview for you and send confirmation.  Read Packet 3, it will detail everything you need to complete and bring with you to your interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat are the reasons people do not receive the fiance visas?

I got denied a tourist visa will it play a part at the interview?

My fiancee was also denied a tourist visa but we had no problems during the K-1 interview.  Just make sure you have lots of evidence and your I-134 is in order.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoes USCIS contact writers of affidavits?

Thanks for the responses everyone.  I guess I was really hoping that they would contact those people so I would at least know that my case is being worked on.  Oh well, guess I'll just have to be surprised when the notice comes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoes USCIS contact writers of affidavits?

As part of my I-129f package, I submitted 3 signed letters from persons vouching for my relationship with my fiance and the fact that we had met within the past 2 years.  Has anyone else submitted anything similar?  I ask because I'm curious if USCIS will contact those people and ask to verify what they wrote.  I'm trying to get any indication of when my case is being touched and I figure if any of them are contacted, that must mean I am getting close right?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresaffidavits sworn by two people for I-129F

I included 3 letters written by US citizens in my I-129f application vouching for my fiancee and my relationship.  They are not required but never hurt I suppose.  Mine were not notarized.  The people who wrote the letters were never contacted either.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to declare a HELOC on I-134

Question 7 on the I-134 asks for "mortgage(s) or other encumbrance(s) thereon amounting to".  I have a home equity line of credit on my house.  Do I include the total amount of the line of credit or just the amount that I've borrowed/currently owe?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAre police records required if my fiance spent time in a foreign country?

I think the best thing to do is contact the Embassy or Consulate where your interview will be held.  My fiancee spent 11 months in Australia.  Her interview was on Monday and she was not required to provide an Australian police certificate.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAre police records required if my fiance spent time in a foreign country?

Hello (I hope I can piggyback off this question as my issue is Aussie-related)

For starters, searching on these forums, some of you are saying 6 months and others are saying 12 months. My lady was in Australia more than 6, but less than 12. Does she need the report or not?

I am a bit confused and hoping any of you may be able to help me. I am a US Citizen and my fiancee is a Japanese citizen. From around the age of 16-17 she spent more than 6 months in Australia as an English student. This means that she will need an Australian police report. According to this website linked earlier:http://travel.state..../fees_3272.html the fee would be "NONE", but as I kept clicking on what seems to be the correct links it led me to the Australian Federal Police Website: http://www.afp.gov.au/

From there I clicked on "National Police Checks" and then "National Police Certificates". It says that there is a $42.00 fee. I don't care about paying the fee, I'm just wanting to make sure that I am trying to ask for the right documents since the US government said there would be no fee. Are the National Police Certificates mentioned on the Australian website what my fiancee will have to take with her to her visa interview?

I have seen 6 months and 12 months printed on various DOS and consulate websites and forms.  Having just had our interview, I can tell you the requirement is over 12 months not 6.  That being said, I don't know for sure if this differs from country to country so you may want to contact the US Embassy in Japan directly to find out.  You can find their phone number and email address at http://japan.usembas...sa-contact.html.

Also, the National Police Certificate you referred to is the correct form should you end up needed one.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAre police records required if my fiance spent time in a foreign country?

It's actually 12 months in any country. http://travel.state....3-ENGL-0711.pdf

So she's close to the requirement... the question is do you want to get one "just in case" or do you want to wait and see and risk a delay? It's not about where you "live" per se. It's because she could still have committed crimes while there. She'd get a National Police Check which is done through the Federal Police and covers all of Australia.

p.s. It's fiancée (2 ee's) when you're talking about the girl of the relationship. This will save confusion in your other posts.

I think the 12 month link you sent is El Salvador specific, but regardless I am going to order one.  The Australia Federal Police website has a list of persons they perform checks for and she didn't quite fit into any of the groups, but I'll still submit the form and pay the fee anyway.

Thanks for the tip about fiancee.  Leave it to a guy to not know the difference :).

had the same exact situation but for SG...and yes they did require police report and unfortunately I didn't get it in time for the interview...caused almost 2 month delay

That's a shame.  Thanks for the tip.  I will order one tonight.  Our interview hasn't been scheduled yet so we still have some time.  Now that I'm so close to the end I want to avoid any potential delay.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAre police records required if my fiance spent time in a foreign country?

That was my understanding as well.  Is the 6 month requirement cumulative (in other words it applies to my fiance b/c she spent a total of 11 months there regardless of the fact that her stays were broken up) or is it on a visit to visit basis?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAre police records required if my fiance spent time in a foreign country?

My fiance spent some time traveling in Australia on a tourist visa several years ago.  Our case in en route to the consulate in Israel and I wanted to know if Australian police records are required for the K-1 visa.  She spent ~5 months in Australia, then traveled to Fiji for a week or so while she renewed her Australian visa, then she traveled back to Australia and spent exactly 6 months there.  Total time was close to a year but she never spent more than 6 months in country during the individual stays.  She also traveled while she was there so she did not maintain a permanent residence, did not work, did not obtain residence or any sort of Australian identification.  Do we still have to obtain an Australian police record for her?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI129F approve after 4 weeks

TLV doesn't handle K-1 visas but it's good news in a way bc TLV are very difficult and rude according to everyone I have heard from including my fiance. However, the JER consulate are very polite and easy in the interview but difficult to deal with when sending in all of the documents. My attorney told us that we should expect to send in our packets to the consulate several times bc "they lose things" a lot...

Our experiences weren't too bad with TLV.  My fiance applied for a tourist visa twice.  The first time she was denied, but they weren't rude.  The second time we had my congressman write a letter of support for her saying she would not overstay and the interviewer looked at the letter and approved her.  She said he was nice.  I'll keep that in mind about Jerusalem.  Maybe I'll employ a similar tactic of having my congressman try to speed up the process.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI129F approve after 4 weeks

My finance is also Israeli. I currently live here with him near Haifa. The only expedite I have seen approved based on the conflict within this region was a person from Syria (they didn't even apply for an expedite it was just given to them). Heres to a quick NOA2!!!!!  bc/ the wait for an appiontment at the Jerusalem consulate takes a while. My attorney said the average for Jerusalem is at least 3 months but on VJ it shows longer (one couple waited 5 months for an interview!!!!!) ranting33va.gif

I also heard about the Syrian couple.  Since there isn't an actual state of war in Israel, I'm not surprised mine was denied, although it was worth a shot.

Thanks for the info on the appointment times for Jerusalem.  I had no idea it took so long.  Do you know if the embassy in Tel Aviv handles K-1 visa interviews?  My fiance went there for her interview for a tourist visa and only had to wait a few weeks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI129F approve after 4 weeks

I applied for expedited processing about a month ago due to an extreme urgent situation.  My fiance lives in Israel and I cited the escalation of cross-border fighting between Syria and Israel as well as rising tensions in the region as the reason.  My request was denied.  Perhaps I should have cited a humanitarian situation instead, oh well.  By the time I can submit another expedite request, hopefully I'll have received my NOA2.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPetition forwarded directly to consulate?

Hi there

I've been lurking for a while but this is my first time posting. I am a VSC to TSC transfer.

I received my NOA2 approval on July 19. It says that "The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate. Please contact the consulate with any questions about visa issuance, or if you would like them to forward the petition to a different consulate."

So my question: Does this mean they skipped the NVC step? Or does everyones approval notice say this?

I called USCIS and they told me that I should call the consulate directly. I did. They are closed. Just looking for similar experiences at this point.
