K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeoul, Korea K1 post interview

Hello!

This packet 3 link really helped http://asktheconsul.org/pkt3k1.html
Checklist for interview http://asktheconsul....heck_fiance.pdf

As far as I remember, I filled out an online form for scheduling the interview. You will give the date for the week that you wish to be interviewed. But the embassy will determine when the interview is.

My fiance got his police clearance thru his employer. But he's suggesting you get it from a central police station (meaning a bigger police station) because they would know better there. The red stamp is the notarization and you will have to get it translated at the Seoul City hall. There is a fee for that. The police clearance was the only document he had to have notarized. Did you get one from South Africa too?

I hope this helps :)

Thanks for your reply :) I guess I'll go to Seoul in my Summer vacation and try and sort this out. I did get one from South Africa :) Thanks once again and congratulations on passing your interview!

Dale.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeoul, Korea K1 post interview
Hi

Our case just arrived in Seoul and I was wondering if you guys could help me with s couple of questions? I'm a South African teacher here in Korea and he's in the US military.

Was it easy to schedule an appointment really soon or was there a waiting list. I really want to have my interview asap. Also...Did you get a Korean police clearance (KNPC) with a RED stamp? I can't seem to get the people at the police station to understand that I need it. One last question...Were your documents notarized?

I'd really appreciate any help, thank you!

Dale

We had the same concern when filing for the K1. We just attached a letter explaining those circumstances. If you're not sure, call the military helpline - They should be able to help you for sure.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSleepless in South Korea

I got my police certificate in korean at one of a big police station here near my place in Suwon. The officer said they can't provide in english.:( anyone else got a translated?

I just got back from the police station and they couldn't give me an english police certificate...no red stamp either. I asked a teacher at my school to translate it and had him sign a letter stating that he is competant in both korean and english. That's about it, I hope it works since I might have my interview within the next month.

I'll try again to get an english copy in seoul, they might do it without any hassle.

Good luck!

I'm an Australian applying here in South Korea (living in Daegu) too. What do you need translated? I found a link on Naver showing that we can get the police report done in English from any police station. Is there anything else we need from Korea that only comes in Korean?

Thanks for your response. Have you received your NOA2 yet? I didn't know that we can get the police certificate in English - I'll look in to that, thanks. I wanted the police certificate translated, and some receipts - Like my engagement ring receipt. Could you send me the link please? I live in Wonju and these police officers don't seem to understand that I need a certificate with a RED stamp :crying: Other than that, we don't need anything else from Korea.

Hi :) I need to prepare my documents for my interview and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some documents notarized/translated in South Korea. To those of you who have had your interview here - How was the process? I'm from South Africa but I teach here...Any other foreign nationals applying for a fiance visa in South Korea? I'm as lonely as a tower crane driver waiting in this place :(

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 denial
If they want her passport, she will get the visa. If you are over the poverty line and provided enough proof there is no way they can deny her visa based on lack of financial support. I think they overlooked it and wish to rectify the situation. Good Luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview experience - Seoul
What a day.

Got to the embassy at 7:30. They let me in and I proceeded to the 3rd floor. Filled out a courier receipt, waited for 5 minutes. A lady at window 305 asked to see me. I gave her all the documents except for a very bulky scrapbook with all our photos/bus tickets/letters etc. I thought that photos would be requested later. I thought wrong. As it turns out, the KNPC requirement has changed and it now needs to state a record of "no expunged crimes"...I didn't know this and received a blue slip to hand in the correct KNPC with translations.

The CO interview went like this:

Hi, how are you? - I'm well thanks and you?
I'm good.

He swore me in, right hand in the air.

How did you meet? - On Myspace in October 2009.

When did you meet in person for the first time? - I said the day and month but not year, so he said: "Yes, but what year?" - November 2009.

Where was this? - My apartment in Wonju (I invited him to my apartment) The CO grinned like he thought I was quite forward to invite my fiance over like that. In retrospect I think I should have said "We decided to meet in my town in November 2009"

So he's in the military - Yes, Sir

So he's not in Korea now? - No, Sir. He is stationed in Texas now.

So you're going to Texas? - Yes, Sir. Hopefully (Bad answer! Hopefully?)

What do you do? - I'm an English Teacher.

How long have you lived in Korea - Almost 6 years.

Do you speak Korean? - Yes, Sir. I can read and write.

How long did it take you to learn? - About 2 years.

What does he do in the military? Do you know? - YES! He's a ____________.

Ok. Now they told you about the Korean Police certificate that's incorrect right? - Yes, Sir.

I'm going to give you this paper (BLUE SLIP ) All it says is that you need to resubmit the correct forms. Here's your passport back. - Ok, When could I do that Sir?

Today from 1 - 3 pm. - Ok.

So I rushed to get the correct KNPC, edited the current translation (very nervous about whether or not my translation was correct), printed it in red ink (pc bang out of black ink) and went back. Waited for 10 minutes and my number came up. I handed the papers to the Korean lady, asked her if it was the correct KNPC. She said yes. She asked me if I had gone through the interview and I said yes. She asked me that twice. "If there is a problem we will contact you...If not, wait for 5 business days to receive your visa"

That was it. The CO was really strict and wouldn't let me get a lot of things in that I wanted to say. My fiance has just come back from deployment, no family questions, didn't look at our pictures just emails, yahoo video call screen shots and messages from Facebook.

The staff is helpful but I don't feel like the CO and I had a good interview. Perhaps I'm over thinking it. What does all this mean?

Walked out at 11:00. Best to come more than prepared and make copies of all originals, do not submit original birth certificates, other country police clearances... they don't give it back.

And now I wait. I hope everything is ok....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit forms about to expire?

DJ, question.. did you have any luck getting driver's license with i-94? We have two months left on I-94 and we have not tried yet. We are going to wait for EAD.

I have not tried to apply for a drivers license. I'll do it once my EAD arrives :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit forms about to expire?

That is the most recent edition of the form posted on the USCIS site. You can use it.

Always check the USCIS website for the most recent edition of any form. The form page will also tell you what other editions (if any) of a form are acceptable.

Thank you :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit forms about to expire?
I'm about to Adjust Status after entering on a K1 visa and getting married. I entered on September 2 and we were married on 11 October. My I-94 expires on December 1st and I've already gotten my social security number. We want to adjust status and plan to do the medical, do the paperwork and send the documents by the first week in November. The problem is the I-864 form expiration date at the top is 10/31/2011. My question is do we fill it out and send it even though it will be expired by November? Or will the USCIS update their website with new forms after October?

So many questions, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?

First, Im not a 3rd world country :D I thought that was a cute comment, but anyways.....

as said... it depends on the mood of the officer.... when I flew in I had to write the little form where it asked about visas (denied, received...bla bla bla) so I wouldnt lie on that piece of paper, second it has nothing to do with K1 process... it will in no way affect that... its only a matter of what happens if the officer thinks that you are coming for staying and you need to have money on hand to go back the same day..... We called the customs, USCIS has nothing to do with it, its not them letting you in the country in the airport..... We talked with the customs guy and his supervisor in JFK (new york, so Ide say they know what they talk about.... it can happen that someone got it, but somebody else could be more unlucky.... so we made the decision to save money and fire it off when we meet instead of not knowing if we even meet :) But yeah thats my opinion ;)

Hello im new in this, and also waiting for a k1 i have the same Question, i really want to go n visit my Fiance but what if they dont let me in at the POE..... i know how yall feel,i havent seen him in 8 months now n it is really hard,we sent out k1 papers on Nov.26 they received them and now we are waiting to be aproved... it is almost 4 months already feels like years....
Anyway i wish yall a very good luck let us know how it went, who knows maybe i try n go too hehehhe :).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAre there any English teachers on an E2 doing the K1 In Korea?

Can you please explain a little bit further?

Judging from your e-mail address, you are a Canadian living and teaching in S.Korea but want to start a K1 process to move to USA with your future husband? Is that right?

If so, your Korean E2 Visa will have nothing to do with your K1 Visa. If you have taken up residence in Korea you will have to fill that out on a form, and you will most likely need to get a police record. You will run into practical things that need to be overcome as well, like where you will receive info on your ongoing K1 Visa.

I don't really understand what you mean about the 6 month thing?

Thanks for the replies.. Let me explain properly.

I am a South African who is teaching/working in Korea on a E2 Visa. (Ignore my email adress)
My Fiance is an American who is in The USA right now.
My E2 Korean working Visa expires on the 31st of August 2012.
We have not started the process yet but we plan on doing so in the next1-2 weeks.
We consulted with a immagration attorney and she has advised us that I need to have 6 months left on my current E2 visa AFTER the interview, now since we havent filed anything yet, I dont know how long it will take to get the interview, maybe 3-4 months (im not sure) and when that finally happens I will have LESS than 6 months left on my E2 visa.. I need to know how this will be a problem and how can I get around this situation..

Thanks in advance and I hope you get a better understanding now~

Regards Tanya.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE problems

I wish Codybanks all well then. I figured it had to be criminal record stuff. Its only thing i could think of.
MizT, If you are planning to go K-1 route, I would just start it.. sounds like you already were planning it, and border would
find you out. I wouldnt try anything fishy, and would be harsh depending on who you get stopped by. I believe some have visited while in K-1 process.. you just have to prove really strong ties to have to be back home at end of visit.
I was not engaged or thinking about K-1 at the time of my visit. But after my bf visited me, we talked about our future. It was a defining moment of "ok, where do we want to go in
our relationship" and he proposed, then we started the K-1.

.

I have one more question.. I am traveling to Oklahoma, but I have a layover in LA and DFW Texas.. Do they Usually do all of the questioning when you arrive at your first stop or when you have reached your final destination? LOL this is stressful.. Why does the USA have to be so EXTRA!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE problems

If i can give any advice, bring everything you can that binds you to your country so that there is not question you are going to stay in US. They are totally looking for anything that
would deem you not leaving from your "visit"
I didnt have anything because I have been back and forth to US so many times I cant count and those questions never came up before. I even visited my bf for 5 months and they never questioned staying. It just goes to show you, you never know what a CBP will ask.
You must be honest and say you are visiting a fiance as the dates of being in US is on one of the form questions. "dates of previous visits to US"

Thank you for your responce.. Im a little worried now.. Do you think it would be better to start the process once im already there or.... This is so stressful.. I dont want to lie but at the same time im afraid too.. If they deny you entry.. Do you just have to get a plane back to where you come from? Do a return ticket back and a contract to my employer help in this case?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE problems
Im so happy I found this post, I hope someone culd give me some advice..

I am visiting my Fiance in one months time.. When I went for my B2 interview I did not mention that I was engagded, I said I was visiting friends and that was it.. I never lied..

Now im a little worried because we are about to start the K1 process in 1-2 weeks and im worried that they will know im visiting my fiance when i come next month..

Can I still go ahead and stick to my story that I am visiting some friends. Il only be there for a month after that I have to come back to my Job in Korea..

Is there any way they will know at the POE that we have begun the K1 when i arrive?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhile Waiting For The K-3 To Process

Yes you can, but she will VISIT, not live with you, officially.
Are you sure you want to do the K3? It is usually adsministratively closed at NVC, forcing you onto the CR-1 path, plus the CR-1 is better because it leads to immediate greencard upon entry.

Great info! Thank you! Good point on the CR-1 leading to a greencard quicker... I think the waiting period on the CR-1 isn't even that much longer than the K3
