  • If subs wants to roam for a specific duration, send GROAM ON <START DATE mm/dd/yyyy> <no. of days> to 2884 (i.e. GROAM ON 09/15/2008 28 and send to 2884).
  • Roaming activation should be done at least 24 hours before departure. You will receive confirmation via text once your International Roaming is activated. Activation via text is FREE of charge.

I haven't encountered it personally as I am not there yet lol but from what I have read, it is possible you get questioned by Customs. However, they say it is ok as long as you have a copy of your Marriage Certificate. Also, they say that her ticket should have the same name as her passport.

Yep, Filipino custom would have it as Mary Vargas Smith. The name difference may cause you some problem though. You can apply for a name change for her green card. Just need to fill out the I-90 form and pay $370-. Or you can just wait for her conditional card to expire and change the name on her GC when you pay the $535 fee. Not sure if the fees are current. I did a search and several posts came up.

I have read your other thread and you said this is your wife's excuse for not coming back ( yet). As far as I know there is no outbreak of any sort. Could it be chicken pox? These things can be endemic. We won't know unless you give us the signs and symptoms. If she got something, ask her to take a photo for you. Google skin disease or tropical disease, read about it and compare itto what your wife tells you. Check out the photos and compare. Does your wife know what it's called locally? Have her go to the nearest baranggay health center and get it checked up. If it is contagious, then your baby is also at risk so better have it checked asap by medical professionals.

I live in Manila but we stayed a night in Lotus Garden to attend a friend's wedding. Uggh don't book that hotel. You can hear the street noise inside the room! Or at least request ones that are on the other part of the building. I got a good deal though. Booked it online too. Agoda has pretty good deals. Almost half or a third of the walk-in rates. By the way, the hotel never asked to see the credit card. Just the printed voucher. :)

I don't know if I would alert my employeer that I am leaving, and I sure wouldn't give 30 days unless that is the norm in PI.

Contrary to popular belief, your employeer can't sue you for quiting....


Don't worry I work for a very big International I.T company and I have given them notice well beforehand that I am leaving soon. A 30 day notice is common so work can be properly transitioned and a replacement can be found. I am leaving with a good record as a professional and in fact I wouldn't want to surprise them by suddenly quitting. It takes sometime to train someone to do the work we do. We have a very good working environment and I have tons of friends at work so even if they're sad I am leaving my peers and higher-ups wish me nothing but the best in this new chapter of my life.

Hey, cross your fingers.. I am going back to the same company as soon as I have my work permit. We have several around the US. Don't worry, my US counterparts know about my plans too and are very much willing to get me onboard as soon as I am settled. Wish me luck :)

The interview went fairly well. I wasn't nervous at all, it was all the waiting that made me anxious. :) My interview schedule is at 6:25 am so I left home at about 4:45 am and I arrived at the embassy at about 5:20 am. It was still a little dark but there are already several long lines outside the gates. Inside the barricaded area, there are three lines. One for seafarers, another for B1/B2, and the one for immigrant/ fiances visas. Just ask around to see if you are in the right line. There are several people offering help from ballpens, to ID photos, to holding your phones and other gadgets/ liquids for safekeeping. Keep in mind that you only need 2 photos (attach it to your 2 copies of DS156) some might trick you into thinking you need 4 copies for the K1 visa. My mom went with me so I left all my electronic gadgets with her.

The guard started asking people to go inside the premises at about 7:30 am. There is a heavy metal door you have to push really hard to get in. There are several guards manning the Luggage Metal Detector conveyor belt and they will provide you with trays to put all your stuff in. Once you are cleared, you will then go through another door to enter the embassy grounds.

There are several window booths just across the doors and there is a guide who will instruct the immigrants/ k1 applicants to go fall in line there.

Here they will get from you your appointment letter, DS 157, 2 copies of DS 156 and DS 156K, and the BPI receipt. The lady arranged my papers and stapled it together. She returned it and instructed me to drop my papers at window 39. I then proceeded to the main embassy building to drop my papers. Took a seat at the waiting area and waited for my number to be flashed on the boards scattered around the premises. I then saw fellow VJ members Cherry and J'lyn. J'lyn was just behind me and Cherry was ahead of us by a few numbers.

The lay out of the building is fairly simple. There are several window booths for each process (prescreener, fingerscanning, consul, and the 2go delivery form)
Seats are arranged in front of the windows and there are several boards where the numbers flash so you can see it wherever you are seated. You have to be really attentive because the numbers flash at random.

My number was called at around 8:30 am and I went to the designated window booth for the prescreening interview. It was a nice motherly lady who asked me questions. She asked for my NBI, Cenomar, and BC. My I134 and supporting documents, and some photos.
Questions asked are:
1. My full name, fiance's full name
2. Our birthdays
3. Fiance's work: I said "He's a Marine" and she said "wow" lol
4. Are you single? "Yes", do you have kids? "No". Is he single? "Yes", does he have kids? "No" . She said "Wow swerte mo" I just smiled but in my mind I said "Sya swerte sa kin" lol
5. How many ex bfs have you had? "None" Oh, sya pala first mo. I said "Opo"
6. How many times has he been here? "Twice but we've seen each other thrice, one is outside the country"
7. When did you meet him?
8. How did you meet him?
9. When did he propose? She said "Ang bilis naman" I said "ayaw na po nya ko pakawalan"
10. Where are you working? Turns out her son worked for the same company :)
11. Other countries visited and for how long. She then said everything looks okay and I was asked to return to my seat and wait for my number to flash again.

After about 30 minutes, I went to window 40 for fingerprint scanning. It was a Chinese looking lady who assisted me.

Waiting for the final interview was the longest part! I was sitting with other VJ girls so we chatted around to pass the time. We were just in front of the consul windows and we noticed that the black lady consul really takes her time asking questions but she seem nice and friendly and even speaks tagalog once in a while. The other consuls are way faster than her so I prayed I wont get her.

Alas, my number was called at about 11:20 am and I got the black lady consul! Haha!
She is really pleasant and has a smiling face. I was smiling and laughing all throughout the interview. It was just like chatting with a friend. She asked me for my full name and birthday, my fiance's name and how we met. I told her we became friends on a site called Mingle2.com and she said she haven't heard of that before. I told her it isn't really popular. I then told her we decided to meet up in Taipei as travel buddies and we became a couple after meeting in person when we got back to our respective countries. She then checked my photos and said "Oh so he has met your family" I said "Yes, and the whole extended family too". Looks like you two have been every where and have seen each other several times. She asked me for the dates when we have seen each other. She saw the underwater diving photo so she just said "Oh you two dive". I smiled and said yes. She asked for other countries I've been too and how many days was the longest visit.
I got nervous when she looked at the affidavit of support because I don't have tax returns. I only have the W2 and recent paystubs. She asked " Has your fiance filed taxes for this year?" I said "Yeah, but he said the military does it for him so he doesn't have a copy..." She said "Yeah, he should have a copy for the previous year". I said I don't have that. I was waiting for her reaction but she just proceeded to look at his paystubs. After a few seconds, she asked me for his age. I said "22" with a big smile. "Oh you're older than him". I said "Yes, by 4 years. Hehe". She also asked about my work so I told her all about it. She seems happy with my answers and said "Congratulations, your visa is approved. Wait for your number to be called for the courier forms" Whew! I said "Thank you!" and she replied "Your welcome!" The interview lasted for about 10 minutes. I waited for a few minutes before I was called at the window where a Filipina lady double checks all the papers and gives out the 2go delivery form. After filling this out, I gave it to another window and the process is done. I got out of the embassy at about noon time :)


PS. How ironic! The embassy eligibility letter arrived today. Saw it when I got home from the interview. LOL

(yabang!!) then, i was scheduled sa actual driving test ko feb 23, 12noon bumagsak ako. hahhaha.. it's easy to learn but really hard to unlearn habits...###### ang examiner ko. di pa nagsisi,ula mainit na ulo. gutom na yata kasi 12 noon ang sched ko. im scheduled for my 2nd actual march 30th. wala ako advice kasi it's different per state at examiner at tyempuhan din daw sa mabait na examiner kasi ung friend ko dito halos bumagsak na sya sa poste nung 3rd take nya eh pinasa pa daw sya at nakakuha license.

yeah you're right. Even my 19-year old son is a good driver, he failed his actual driving. Right now it's very difficult to make an appointment. Wala pa cya sched. Meron kse cyang critical error kaya ayun, bagsak he he. I recieved my driver's license yesterday and I was sooo happy kse i'm free to go anywhere yehey! I can drive my car now. thank you Lord!

Do you already have an ITIN? If so, you can already file taxes jointly. Otherwise he can't inlcude you in his tax exemptions.Also I don't think it will affect your AOS as it is a change from a visa to a green card. But do ask around in the other forum topics.

4) Pwede ka mag-right turn pag stop pero dapat stop ka for 3-4 seconds tapos konting usod sa harap. Tapos pagclear na kanan. Abante kaagad. Dami nadadali din dito. At huwag ka lumampas sa linya.

5) Magpractice ka sa unprotected left. Ito yung walang left signal light. Green light lang ang meron. Sanayin mo umabante kapag green pero diretso pa rin ang gulong. Bagsak ka kaagad kung mali ka dito.

6) Sanayin mo sarili mo sa right of way sa 4 or 3 way stop.

7) Wag ka lumampas sa speed limit at huwag mabagal masyado. Bagsak ka kaagad din dito.

You are allowed 15 minor mistakes pero isang mali lang sa major ay bagsak ka na. Good luck sa iyo at sa sino pa man mag-eexam pa. smile.gif

A GPS unit also is a good investment.

I don't know kung maipasa ko, pressured din kse ako dhil minamadali na ako ng mom ko, may mga sasakyan nga dito wala naman mga DL haay. according to my instructor, just follow the SMOG ( S-signal M-mirrors O-over your shoulder G- go). Pag-aaralan ko talaga mga tip mo Jose Rizal dahil dumaan ka na sa actual eh. Thank you sooo much.

try mo maglagay ng vicks vapor rub sa talampakan ng anak mo before going to sleep then suotan mo ng socks. it works para maka-sleep mabuti.

may dala ako na mga gamot ng anak ko kaya wala kami problema sa gamot.

Ewan ko ba, sa pinas galing ko magdrive, i'm driving for 20 yrs now, tpos dito sa states para akong first timer. even the written nakakanerbyos eh how much more sa actual, whaaa, napaka strict pa naman mga examiner sa stockton. tip naman dyan sa mga natapos na ng actual, pleeeaasee!

Right now I just passed my written driving test, and on Friday is my actual driving test but before i went through my actual, nag driving lesson muna ako which is $90/2 hrs, cbi ng instructor ko, manila driver daw ako he he. I already rcv my california ID, required kse if you are resident here in Cali. As of now, caregiver muna ako sa stepdad ko which ok naman kse he provides everyhting we need and he even bought a car for me! God is really good all the time. My daughter goes to school cloe to our house and my eldest will join in an Air Force sana makapasa cya. Ikaw san ka dito sa states?
