Ooooh, good luck JulietteDumont! I hope your approval is well on its way smile.gif.

When do you think you or your honey will be in the US?
We're really, really hoping for March. I'm a full time student and I get the first week of March off so that would be perfect for us to elope/spend a week somewhere nice.

Do you plan on having a traditional wedding, a civil ceremony or both?
A little bit of both. We're eloping to a local mansion (www.buhlmansion.com), but it will just be us. We're doing all we can to make it really special- writing our own vows, music, having a wine ceremony, I bought a gorgeous gown, we're booking a private dining room at a 5 star restaurant and we're hiring a professional photographer. But we want to celebrate with our families and friends too (his just can't fly out in March and it wasn't fair to have only my friends and family there on the wedding day) so we're throwing two big receptions, one in America and one in England. Our America one is planned for the week before Christmas of 2009 and the U.K. one will have to wait until after AOS is figured out.

What's your biggest worry about coming here/your SO coming here?
DRIVING. Sebastian doesn't have a license since he's always just used public transport and it's nearly impossible to walk anywhere where I live. So even if he's lucky enough to land a great job, I have no idea how he'll get there until we can afford another car. Plus, he's always driven on the other side of the road when he took driving lessons and I'm really leery about the whole situation. Like everyone else, we're also worried about him finding a job and money. I have zero income as a student and he's only been working full time for a year or so, so we don't have a great deal of savings. Thankfully our families are helping out, but still. Things will be tight, and it's a bit worrying.

My vacation to England is going REALLY well. I found lots of great wedding buys and it's been positively wonderful to spend so much quality time together. I don't know about you guys, but the distance was really beginning to strain things for us. But see how happy we are now? smile.gif smile.gif

Awww, everyone's pictures are so sweet! Here's us having a super posh dinner with Sebastian's family to celebrate our engagement. We're having professional pictures taken in London and Oxford this week, so I'll be sure to post a few of those once they're here smile.gif.

Thanks for the embassy info. So at the top of the medical checklist, where it says "visa appointment date", what did you put? January 16th? Or did you leave that bit blank and answer January 16th on another form? Just a bit confused smile.gif. Thanks in advance!

Happy New Year! smile.gif.

Anyone in here using the London embassy know the best way to contact them? I know calling is quite expensive but I can't seem to find an email address. We just want to check up on packet 3.

Sebastian is also worried because he has his medical scheduled before he has packet 3 or his interview date. We have the packet 3 forms anyhow (thanks Shannon and Nick!) but I guess there's a spot on one of the forms where he's supposed to put in the interview date and he's freaking out even though I don't think it's a big deal. It's fairly normal to have the medical before knowing the interview date, though, right? So should we just leave it blank for now? Also, I remember reading somewhere that there's a way to have the doctors vouch that the beneficiary has had a medical without having to redo it in the States during AOS. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I know we should really start reading up on this AOS stuff but I'm in London on holiday and just can't bring myself to do any visa related stuff! I just want to cuddle and do wedding stuff instead smile.gif. Going back to that now....;-)!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas. I just arrived in London this morning, so I won't be posting on here very much in the next two weeks or so. I wish you all the best with your approvals, NVC numbers, packet 3 info, medicals, and anything else that may pop up in my absence! Lots of hugs and positivity your way smile.gif.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

Quick question about the I-134 and other interview documents, as I'm finalizing everything tomorrow. Now that the new form does not need to be notarized, does anything else? I am going to give Sebastian a hard copy of mine and my cosponsor's birth certificates, as well as the NOA1 and the NOA2. I'm racking my brain, but can't think of anything else. Thanks!

As for this DHL tracking stuff, they are showing that a bunch of packages were mailed off today, only one of which is from the UK. It says "diplomatic papers" and weighs 5 lbs. Does this sound about right?

Do you mean sent to the uk?
Have a look see if its going to Lambeth, thats were all the mail is pre-screened good.gif

Ah, yes. I meant to the UK. I don't see any mention of Lambeth yet. Oh well! We weren't expecting them to actually have it before New Year's anyhow.

I mentioned earlier that we may have to wait for Sebastian to come to the States. Well, not any longer, thanks to many a family member's generosity! He'll be here ASAP once his visa is in hand. And just 4 days until I board the plane to London! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Oh awesome! I didn't know that it didn't need to be notarized anymore. I'm waiting to receive my employment verification from my employer and then I'll send it off to France. I've read that if your income exceeds the poverty guidelines then you don't need to add additional info (bank acct statements, 401k statements, investments etc.) but doesn't the gov't want all this info? If its asks for it on the form, isn't it required? I just don't want to omit something now and then include it later for AOS and get in some type of trouble. Paranoid. thoughts?

I asked the same question on here, and in threads I created, a few times because I get really paranoid too. Everyone always says you don't need to fill out anything else. I may email the embassy or something and ask just to be safe, though.

Hey Aubrey, before you freak out about the I-134, you may want to look at this.

http://www.uscis.gov...00048f3d6a1RCRD

It says "Edition Date: 10/30/2008. Prior versions are also acceptable."

Thanks for the heads up, too. I didn't realize they'd finally updated it.

Both Vermont and California filers use the same number for the NVC, right? 603-224-0700? I've called them at least a dozen times, and most of the time at strange hours. I think I called at like 8 p.m. last night and at 9 a.m. this morning. I always get to talk to a person and I've never heard of them being closed except on weekends. Although the lady I talked to yesterday said they're only open on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Well, quite a few updates to report on this end. Called the NVC last night, they have our case, and they sent it to London this morning. I wasn't expecting them to be so fast! Sebastian booked his medical for January 8th. So that's where we stand.

As everyone else said, please take care of yourself Chelle! I know things seem impossible right now, but aren't you glad you at least found out before marrying him? You deserve much more than this and I truly wish you all the best.

Wahoooo!!!! NVC has our case number! The lady on the phone was really sweet and said they'd probably be sending it out tomorrow but that it may be sometime next week! Yaaaaaay!

Now that I have a case number, should we call and try to schedule a medical even though we haven't received packet 3 (and just say we did)? Or should we wait until it's at least left the NVC so we're sure we don't get stuck in AP? Or am I getting way ahead of myself? I'm leaving for London in just over a week and we're really hoping I can at least go with him to the medical since I'll be there through mid January.

As far as we know, the NVC still hasn't received our case. Sebastian has filled out the packet 3 forms, just for practice really, but we may take a hint for Shannon and Nick and send them anyways if they take too long! We're still looking at another two weeks or so, but still!

Also, do we have to mail in packet 3 when the time comes? Or could Sebastian just drop it off at the Embassy? He lives in London so I think it would be fairly convenient. I don't want to have to deal with the UK postal service (so many mishaps!).

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting! Not long, guys!

And Chelle, be sure to let us know what your son says. I'm wishing you all the best!

Oh boy, so much to catch up on! Thanks so much for all the replies on my 200+ pages question, as well as all the information on the NVC steps, Shannon and Nick!

Congrats on your NOA2 Ev & Saya and foxtrot37 (and anyone else I may have missed)!

I'm sending some extra special, extra lucky sprinkle dust your way PB&Jam, panterchen and chadherm. And lots your way too, cdneh! Sorry you don't have your packet 3 yet, darkraven cna, but let's hope it's just because of the postal systems during the holidays? I hope everyone is able to get sorted out by Christmas, at the VERY latest. We all deserve to start the New Year off on the right foot.

As for wedding vows, we've looked through other vows from other sites and tried to get an idea of what we'd like to include. There are so many little things I want to be sure to include in them! We've picked out a few readings at the very least. I'll share my favorite love poems if you share yours, VJers! wink.gif

The dresses are beautiful, Chelle! For some reason, I never noticed your faces in the flag on your avatar and I just got REALLY freaked out! hahaha. To make the maid of honor dress look different, you could always have them wear a matching shrug or a bolero over it. Like this:

But the fact that they're different colors distinguishes them a lot already, so you may not need to alter the dress itself.

Aaaaahhh, I'm really hoping Sebastian can be here for the first week of March. I'll have a little over a week off from uni then and it would be ideal for having our elopement ceremony and spending a week cuddling in a log cabin somewhere. We had a long talk about finances last night, and we may decide to wait until May for him to come here though, which breaks my little heart sad.gif.

Thanks everyone!!! I am SO excited!

I'm kind of freaking out. I'm going to visit Sebastian in less than two weeks. What stuff does he need immediately and what stuff can I just wait to give him once I'm there? I have a huge packet already put together with my I-134, my cosponsor's I-134, the NOA1, a copy of my birth certificate, a copy of all pages in my passport, proof of an ongoing relationship and a letter of intent. He has his vaccination records and his police reports. They'll mail him packet 3, which has all the other forms, right? Regardless, I have the DS56, DS157 and the DS230 printed out for him. Plus he has that online form. Is there anything I need to send him immediately?

I know we can call the NVC and get his case number so he can set up his medical appointment. How long did it take for those of you in the UK (pretty much all of this is aimed at you, Shannon & Nick, because you were so well prepared!) to get your medical once you had the NVC case number? And when, throughout the process, do you get your interview date?

Aaaaand, as for proof of an ongoing relationship, people in the August thread were saying that they have 200+ pages of evidence. That seems like it's really excessive. We have my flight itinerary, his flight itinerary, pictures of us from our last visit this summer, our Skype histories, emails, postage, my wedding dress receipt, his wedding ring receipt, and a screenshot of our visajourney membership. It comes to around 50 pages. I figure that's way more than necessary, but the August filers have me freaked out.

AS DOES THIS WHOLE PROCESS! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

We made an infopass appointment for today and it turns out we can keep the green card! There are a bunch of extra hoops to jump through but they'll be worth it. We didn't think a travel document would really apply to us but apparently it does so long as we're back next summer to remove conditions.

Yeah, I'll be doing a masters in the UK. It's not exactly a masters in social work, but it's a masters in social program evaluation through the social work and social policy department at Oxford. Very exciting!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well! Happy anniversary to all who have recently celebrated.

As for us, after a lot of thought we've decided to abandon the US immigration process at this time and move back to the UK. I'll be doing a Master's degree and working on my UK immigration. It just makes a lot of sense for us on many levels, plus, we can apply for the spousal visa using DCF next time which will be much better than the 9 months of separation. We'll still be checking this website and facebook often, though, so keep in touch :).

I'm looking into grad programs in social work and counseling now. We'll see!

Good luck. I'd be tempted to look at advanced practice nursing. Social workers I know have to see some pretty brutal things; but I guess that depends on what kind you do.

I want to see the shocking things. I had a pretty tough upbringing and I think that's where I'll make the most difference. I guess I saw a lot of the effects of the nursing shortage this summer. 99% of the time the nurses were at their computers doing paperwork instead of in the room with their patients. They had time for a quick assessment and that was it and it wasn't because they're bad nurses- they just have such high patient loads and so much paperwork. I even shadowed at a few hospitals in the area to make sure I wasn't just having a bad experience with one hospital and found it to be the same. I didn't realize any of this until I started the internship since during clinicals you're always much more focused on your patient than what the nurse is doing. So glad I did the internship before graduation! I commend anyone who is going into the field, though. It's a really noble profession. It just wasn't a good fit for me.

Congrats on the EAD, Aubrey!

Nope, no more nursing. I did an internship this summer and everyone I worked with was absolutely miserable. The pay is good, but those poor nurses are severely overworked, underpaid and burnt out. I just couldn't see myself in that role. I guess there's a reason the burn out rate is 10 years for nursing.

I'm looking into grad programs in social work and counseling now. We'll see!

Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted here. Things are going pretty well for us. Sebastian found a job in June (took him about 3 months from POE to find one). It's a software job, but there are no benefits and the pay is kind of a joke after you take into account his costs for health insurance. But at least it's in his field and he can get his foot in the door in the US job market. Seb also got his drivers permit, though I'm way too scared to ever let him drive my car. He's.....unsafe. helpsmilie.gif

I changed my major and am now in the tedious process of applying to grad schools. Many of them are back in the UK, so I hope immigration doesn't give us too much hassle with that so long as we get a reentry permit and such. If we're not in the UK we'll either be in NYC or Hawai'i so regardless, life will be much more exciting than rural Pennsylvania!

We're also planning our U.S. reception for Thanksgiving weekend as well as our UK reception in February. I'm super excited because even though we're married, it doesn't really seem like we are since we didn't have the same kind of rite of passage of celebrating with our closest friends and family.

That's what's new with us! I'm glad to see all the progress here! I know it isn't going smoothly for everyone, but hang in there. Best wishes smile.gif
