That is beautiful where is that??? I wish that we could do something like that but I dont know of any places around there that do that....

The mansion is in Sharon, PA and the cabin is on Buckeye lake in Ohio. I STRONGLY recommend looking for vacation rentals in your state, regardless of how hopeless you think it might be. At first I was like, "Uh, yay? A honeymoon in Ohio? A wedding in ugly Sharon?" but there are literally dozens upon dozens of gorgeous log cabin rentals. You get way more for your money using vacation rentals instead of hotels plus the hundreds of dollars, and time, we're saving by not flying is amazing. That place I posted is only $159 a night for the entire house.

More about my elopement, hey? Well, I hope you're in for a book!!

We're getting married here:

Bonus pics of the jacuzzi in their master room!:

It's an old mansion turned luxury spa/b&b. It was rated one of the top ten most romantic bed and breakfasts in the country and has a nice massage parlor. They offer an elopement package that includes the officiant, my bouquet, his corsage, a DVD of pictures taken by their receptionist, a bottle of champagne and a mini cake in whatever flavor/decor we choose. I'm so lucky that it's only a little over an hour away from where I live!

As for the day itself, our plan is to get married in mid-afternoon. As I mentioned earlier, we're writing our own vows and he's writing a song for me to walk down the aisle to since he's a wonderful musician. I'm a poet so I might also read a few poems that I've written for him and he might play me a song or something. We're trying to make it a ceremony that lasts more than just a few minutes, so we might also incorporate a wine ceremony. That's where the bride's family and the groom's family each give the couple a bottle of wine and a wine glass, along with pieces of paper or letters giving us their blessing. We'll read all of them, put them, along with the wine and glasses, into a wooden box and lock it. Then we'll open it on our ten year anniversary! He's British, but half Iranian, so we might also incorporate this awesome Iranian tradition where the bride and groom sit in a chair under a cloth and the guests rub sugar cane together to "sprinkle sweetness" over them. That one might be messy and difficult to execute, though. So far, we can't find any really cool British traditions except fruitcake and putting a horseshoe charm in my bouquet.

We both really want our heritages and our families to somehow feature in our wedding, even though it'll just be us. I found this awesome woman in the UK who makes bouquets out of antique broaches and pearls and I might copy the idea but use family heirlooms instead. Like this:

We're hiring an amazing photographer, too. Hopefully Kim Reed if we can do a little more price negotiating with her.

After the ceremony, we're not sure what we're doing. We both really love fondue so we're thinking of buying a fondue pot and making our own 4 course meal from it like they do at our favorite restaurant. That might get pretty messy and I just spent a fortune on my dress, though. Plus I'm not sure if the rooms will have a refrigerator and stuff, so we might have to skip it. I feel lame going to a restaurant in my wedding gown, but the mansion has a sister property that has a restaurant and they have elaborate 7 course meals there that look incredible. So I might change and we may just go there. Or see if they can set something nice up in our room.

As for honeymoon stuff, we decided to save money and not deal with flights, so we're driving to a cabin that's a few hours away. We thought about doing exciting tourist stuff in a big city but really, we've been apart for far too long, and the idea of snuggling in a secluded cabin that has a hot tub for an entire week sounds like bliss. We'll pack a few bottles of wine, maybe that fondue pot and some other groceries and get away from it all. Here's a few pics of the cabin!

I told you it would be long! How are you doing your Niagara Falls thing? Are you staying on the U.S. side or getting Advanced Parole beforehand? I stayed at the Embassy Suites once on the Canadian side and it was AMAZING.

We're planning on getting married on Myrtle Beach as this is where we eventually met face to face.

Yikes, I know! The link to the London embassy on here says that the time from receipt of packet 3 to the interview date can range from 6-10 weeks! I know a lot of other people get it much sooner, but it makes me too nervous to book anything even for our tiny elopement so I can only imagine how you guys feel. It's so great that your family is willing to fly anywhere! Unfortunately, Sebastian's little brother and sister are still in school or uni so it's nearly impossible.

TeeKol, I've never been to the Poconos but it looks great! Where did you decide on for your honeymoon?

And Shannon and Nick, your idea sounds great. A beach wedding would be so romantic!

This stuff is way more fun to talk about than how impatient we all are smile.gif.

I've had my dress for a few weeks, managed to refrain from trying it on every day!!
We've got the reception venue, just worried about setting a firm date (21st March) in case the visa's not through by then!
Do you have a date in mind?

We don't. We decided to have a fancy elopement with just us at a nearby mansion because it's too much of a nightmare trying to figure out how to fly everyone here from the UK on such short notice. Not to mention, most places require deposits to save the date and we're just not willing to risk it. We want to get married ASAP once he's here. The sooner we're married, the sooner he gets his work authorization! So we're having an indulgent elopement (hopefully in March or April) and a big party in the U.S. and a big party in the U.K. within the next year.

I'm really excited about eloping! I'm still wearing the white dress, ordering flowers and we're having a personalized mini cake made. And we're having an amazing professional photographer. We're writing our own vows and he's writing a song for me to walk down the aisle to. And we can do it all on a moment's notice since the mansion we've decided on (www.buhlmansion.com) offers an elopement package!

What about you? What are you guys cooking up?

Maybe I'm being a total idiot about this police report thing, but what are the criteria for needing one? My fiance lived in Australia for more than 6 months but less than a year. Is he required to have one? The embassy website makes it seem as though he doesn't but I just want to be a million percent sure. Thanks!

I found what he was talking about for anyone who is interested. Apparently the list of people who can endorse the application and prove their identity is found on the application itself:

Do you guys all have your police reports? Sebastian is not being very timely with this and I'm worried about how long it will take. He needs one from the UK AND one from Australia since he spent a gap year there. Ugh.

Ok, thanks for the info! i'll tell my SO to get on it. is it just showing where he has lived and any possible criminal record? not sure what its for, but if it takes 5-6 month to receive it, we'll get on it!

I believe he'll only need them for the countries he's lived in since he was 16. I don't think it takes 5-6 months, but I'm being paranoid and I want my fiance to have it ready to go when the NOA2 arrives. He insists that he has to have someone sign off on the police report application that's in a high position in society (a professor, a judge, etc.) and he just located a friend's dad who is willing to. I think he's crazy and I haven't heard of this, do any UK filers know what on earth he's referencing? I assumed it would just be a form you fill out and mail in with a cheque? Also, how do I find out if he needs finger prints or not? He was thinking it was $35 AUD, not $105! I have no idea if all embassies require fingerprints or just some?

While this is stressful, at least we have these tasks to make us feel productive!

We're a little worried about it. Luckily his family is giving him a very generous amount of money to help with expenses while we wait for the EAD. We're stuck in a pretty small city after we get married until I finish my degree, so he likely won't be able to work in the field he wants to for a year. But hey, a job is a job and a reference is a reference! I told him since he's moving to America for me, after I graduate he can choose the state and city we live in (I'll be a nurse, so I can pretty much get a great job anywhere) so I doubt it will be a problem in the long run.

Sorry it took days to reply! Sebastian and I actually share this account but he's never once posted and only occasionally spies on my posts and says, "Awww! How cute are you for being so involved?!" haha. I think it makes him sad to read about other people's struggles, too, so he just avoids it. As for the wedding dress, I'll just post a picture of my $3,000 dream dress that I'll never be able to afford or justify. I absolutely love the 50's tea length dresses. Yeah, maybe you all look at my post with disgust that I'm already complaining before he's even left. I know I'm lucky that he's here with me now, but it's really hard knowing that he's leaving again. Everything feels just perfect with him here - it's our home now. I dread waking up without him there next to me. Sorry if I sound like a whiner, I just know how much it's going to suck when the rug is pulled out from beneath me. We both cry when we're apart. sad.gif

Aww, don't worry! I wasn't reading in disgust. Just reminding you to be strong and optimistic since that's what will make the difference between a bearable separation and an unbearable one smile.gif. I'm glad we can all be here for each other!

Checking in again, July filers...

How's everyone holding up? I find myself wincing when I look at the calendar - I see the 19th creeping up on me - the day my darling has to go back to Germany. I have to find ways not to think of it. I told him not to tell me he has to use things up and not buy more at the grocery store. I hate the idea that he has to go away again, and we're not sure we can afford another visit after he goes. His family keeps asking if I can make it there for Christmas. I sure hope so!

I've been introducing Andy to American politics and government with all of the political stuff on TV lately. He told his best friend the other day that he knows more about American politics than German now laughing.gif I told him this will prepare him for when he can vote in the 2012 presidential election. tongue.gif

Also, I wanted to ask if any of you were browsing wedding dresses online? I'm trying to find an inexpensive place to order one. I have a couple sites bookmarked, but wondering if anyone else has some, too.

Hang in there! Sebastian left nearly a month ago, but we're holding up okay. I bought a plane ticket to England for New Year's and having a definite date to look forward to is a big help. You're lucky for having so much time together, don't forget that! smile.gif

As for wedding dresses, Julius Bridal has a few knockoffs that are supposedly really nice. I've been looking at the forums on indiebride.com and they're very helpful too. What kind of dress are you looking for? Houseofbrides.com also seems fairly popular and very reputable.

Thank you VJ Fams!

Welcome to the forums! I copied and pasted my response to someone else from the July Vermont thread :
"If the date that's displayed differs from your official NOA1 date, you've been touched. Keep in mind that there will only ever be one date displayed. It's not like a list of dates appear, the numbers will just change. If it hasn't been touched, don't fret! Lots of people go through the process with few, if any touches. They're not an incredibly accurate reflection of what's being done with your file."

As for wedding planning- I think we're going to do a classy elopement somewhere. Is anyone else doing this? Since we're looking at early to mid winter for approval, his family can't fly out while his siblings are still in school and his friends are working on their Masters degrees. And what's a wedding without the other half's friends and family? I'm also a full time student so I don't have a great deal of flexibility in the winter either. I think we're just going to elope and throw two huge parties within the next year or two, one in the U.S. and one in the U.K. We're looking into www.butterflyhollow.com because they've got a fantastically priced elopement package and it seems so much more personal than going to Vegas. I told him so long as we get gorgeous photographs and I can wear a poofy white dress, I don't care how we do it smile.gif. Naturally, as a guy, this makes him incredibly happy. I could tell he was bored to death talking about centerpieces and floral arrangements.

Is there a thread on VJ for people to discuss their wedding and honeymoon plans? I can't seem to find one. Since all of us are dealing with trying to throw a wedding that involves at least two countries, and all of us are pretty limited in honeymoon options unless we get Advanced Parole- it only seems reasonable that there should be somewhere where we get gather and talk about the fun, frilly stuff instead of just the logistics of filling out papers!

not that I know of but I say we July fliers do it here so we can all see what we all have planned..from simple to whatever and SUPPORT each other on this wonderful journey!!!

We got a REF already :( Apparently, in England part of the shot they offer doesn't have the "pertussis" part so we had to find a certified doctor. Luckily it was on the same day he was going to get his finger prints and picture taken in Pittsburgh. We had to pay $50 for the visit and $70 for the shot. We received her interview date today.....August 22nd.  We're not happy with this but can't really do anything about it.  If her parents can get a visa she will come here directly from Saudi Arabia, if not, she'll go home to the Philippines for 7 days.......She wants a September 20th wedding.

The timing seems right to me. You're a few weeks behind us and ours is July 30th. I know it's frustrating being away from your other half but not much longer now! Good luck!!

Passport arrived 9am this morning with Visa inside, almost exactly a week after I attended the interview (so 5 business days).

Now just to book the flight and get over there smile.png

What airline do you usually fly? I had the worst flying experience of my life on American Airlines when I flew last week.
