PS

here is the letter she prepared...what do you all think???

Dear Sir or Madam:

This letter is to confirm that Merilee E. Hartell is employed with us since May 15, 2008 on full time basis as Laundry Attendant/Housekeeping. Her annual salary is Approx. 16,892/year. With overtime it can be more and be between 17,750 to 18,400. Merilee E. Hartell does work overtime when we ask her and we are willing to give her more if she needs it to make over the 17,500.

I just do not want them to go well SO what you do not get the visa because of lack of work for 10 years...
PLUS I was married to some moron who would NOT work and he was an abusive control freak...SIGH I JUST WANT TO BE HAPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Well, I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to professional writing (nursing/English double major right here!), so I'll show you how I would word it. Feel free to ignore my advice if you think it would offend whoever wrote the letter, this is just the part of my university writing center mentor coming through smile.gif. First of all, "is employed" should be "has been employed" since they're talking about the month of May. Also, "approximately" does not need to be capitalized. Saying "annual" and "/year" is redundant, so I'd choose one or the other. They're missing a few dollar signs. And the rest of it could just use a little tweaking to sound a bit more professional.

"Dear Sir or Madam:
This letter is to confirm that Merilee E. Hartell has been employed with us since May 15, 2008. Her Laundry Attendant/Housekeeping position is full-time and her annual salary is approximately $16,892. However, Ms. Hartell often works overtime, which may increase her annual salary to between $17,750 and $18,400. We are more than willing to accommodate Ms. Hartell in her requests for overtime so that she may reach the set federal financial requirements for her foreign fiance to join her in the United States."

I hope that was helpful! And know that we're all wishing loads of good luck your way smile.gif.

A bit off topic, but have any of you received private messages from the newly registered member godwill? I got a slightly creepy message asking for me to email him/her pictures and it said something like, "Remember, love knows no color". I got a little freaked out and sent the administrator a PM. I hope they ban people like that. Ugh.

Quick question for those US citizens who have visited their fiance's abroad in the UK. What did you say when they asked the reason for your visit? I'm going to visit Sebastian in 3 weeks (!!!!!) and I'm not really sure if I should be vague and say I'm visiting friends or if I should just say I'm visiting my fiance. I've entered the UK at least a dozen times while traveling/studying last year, but I just showed them my student visa and they didn't ask any questions. Do I need to bring back ties to the U.S. and all of that? I know the U.S. is notoriously strict, but I'd like to know if it's the same the other way around so I'm prepared! Unfortunately, I don't really have ties to the U.S. to show them...I'm a full time student and I live in university housing so I don't have a copy of my lease, I only have one bill in my name and I don't have a job. I doubt a letter stating I'm a full time student is particularly strong evidence.

If worse comes to worse, I can just say I'm visiting friends I made from studying abroad at Oxford last year. They could at least see the student visa in my passport to back it up.

Someone tell me I'm freaking out over nothing smile.gif.

Hi cham I hope things are working out ok for you. I am now in the same boat. My cosponsor backed out too. The thing that upsets me is that my son in law makes alot of money and at first he thought about doing it but then when keith went back home unexpectedly last may , my daughter doesnt think he will. sad.gif I am so tired of things coming up and getting in the way .. Now I have a question. about this one needed for this stage. on the paperwork does it state that it is not legally binding?? because if it does he just might think about it .. let me know

Hugs
Chelle

Unfortunately not sad.gif. #6 on the I-134 says, "I understand this affidavit will be binding upon me for a period of three (3) years after entry of the person(s) named in item (3) and that the information and documentation provided by me may be made available to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of Agriculture, who may make it available to a public assistance agency." Also, I'm pretty sure the I-864 is legally binding, which you'd need after marriage. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I wish you guys all the best in figuring this stuff out and hope for a lot more approvals today! As for me, I'm off to take a very dreaded nursing exam. Yikes!

Aaaahhh, it's already Tuesday and we've hardly seen any approvals or touches this week, plus hardly any last week. It's making me antsy, and I still have a few weeks until I should be expecting an approval!

I hope you can get everything worked out, Cham. While I'm not sure if they'd take your letter into consideration (I get the impression they just want to see the numbers), it can't hurt to include it!

i have a question..i dont know if it makes sense though..

my fiance is moving to a new place. so we are going to call USCIS to update his address...can i ask the person from uscis to also approve our application since they've already approved lots of july filers? are these the same person who reviews the applications? or will it help fast approval coz they will be pulling out our application at least i know that it isnt lost... hope u get what i mean...what do u guys think? thanks

No, I really really doubt it. If it were that easy, we'd all be calling with "changes of address." Not saying you're making it up, but that some of us might if it meant a more speedy approval! I wish it was as easy as calling them and asking them to approve us, but unfortunately that's not how it works. We all have to wait our turn. There is, however, the chance that they may just approve it while they're looking at it. Best of luck, though!

He has my heart, my future, my life is with him. Feel stuck between a rock and a hard place at times. I cant be without him yet I cant be "with" him...
Ok, enough of my pity party, I cant wait for tomorrow and these next 2 weeks! dancin5hr.gif

We had a rough patch near the beginning of the fall. We simply weren't used to being apart from each other like that and we found ourselves bickering constantly. Then we were reading into it and worrying if that meant our whole marriage would be unhappy bickering all the time.

Then one day, we just kind of snapped out of it and realized how silly we were acting. I think there was just this void in each of our lives and we were so frustrated that we couldn't control it. Now we're focusing on the future instead of the present, a lot, which isn't exactly ideal. But thinking about where we're going to live, planning wedding details, looking into jobs in the area, etc. allows us to take our minds off of how sad the situation is and feel like our marriage is more of a reality with each passing day.

Welcome to December, everyone!

I think all of this is getting a little out of hand. I mean, if you're upset that you're away from your loved ones, vent about it. And if you're trying to be chipper and upbeat, share your positivity with everyone else in hopes that it will make them feel better.

I agree that this thread has been a bit more depressing this past month than it has been helpful. And if you don't like that (I can't say I do, but hey...everyone is under stressful circumstances) there are two ways of dealing with it. You can be all like "YOU ARE SO SPITEFUL AND MISERABLE. HOW DARE YOU BE UPSET THAT YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR NOA2 LIKE ME!", or you can share your optimism say "Hey everyone, remember why we're doing all of this! LOVE!"

I choose the latter.

And wow, Labhrais...just refreshed my page before I sent this...and now you're just being nasty.

Yes Cham, let's change the subject! Things are going well here. I'm fortunate enough to get to visit Sebastian a month from yesterday, so we're both very ecstatic and have been busy planning out our visit together. Our wedding/elopement planning is going really well, too! I have my dress, we have our venue, our photographer and we're working on our vows. Sebastian is writing a song for me to walk down the aisle to and we've decided to plan a big vow renewal reception at Christmas next year, so we're planning that. Lots of joy and love all around for us! Now we just need the NOA2. From the bottom of my heart though, I hope that every single person who applied before us is approved before we are. It's been difficult, sure, but I feel like we're taking things in stride more than a lot of people here are and I want those who are struggling more to have it before us. We're both very young, don't have overwhelming economic burdens, have been able to squeeze in one visit and, perhaps most importantly, we don't have kids who miss their mommy or daddy. You guys all really do deserve it ASAP and I'm anxiously keeping my fingers crossed for loads of approvals this week!

As for the wedding ring question, Sebastian got his when he was visiting the U.S. this summer. He wanted to wear some sort of engagement ring too (which I thought was really sweet!) so we bought his wedding ring and he's wearing it on his right hand. We'll switch it to the left on our wedding day.

I'm still in the process of trying to figure out what I want. Something with white gold and diamonds. The Christmas sales should help! We thought about having ours engraved too. I think this is South Carolina's motto or something, but Dum Spiro Spero means, "While I breathe, I hope" and we both think that really sums up a lot of our relationship.

And I absolutely love yours, Shannon and Nick!

Although some of us aren't with our loved ones today, it's Thanksgiving and we do have so very much to be thankful for. Someone we love, loves us back! And so what if they aren't here right this second, they want to be...and we are so very lucky - all of us -- to have found the person we want to spend the rest of our lives with.

There are so many very lonely people out there, still waiting to find their Mr. or Ms. Right...we might feel like we are being held up by the government but there are so many people that would love to be in our situation - to know that someone is waiting and waiting and willing to move halfway across the world just to be with them.

Instead of bemoaning the USCIS employees, let's all take some time and call that widow we know that's all alone Every Year (not just this year), or send an e-mail to that serviceman/servicewoman we know that is on deployment and can't be with their family either, or perform some other act of service for our local community. You are online already, go to Amazon.com and buy a toy for a kid who might not otherwise get one for Christmas. Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner and be glad you aren't wondering where your next meal is coming from.

It might sound trite, but all of us, we really do have so much to look forward to when others don't have that same comfort - we are so blessed --- let's be generous and share some kindness instead of whinging.

Please?

I couldn't agree more. This is hard on me and my fiance, and I'm sure it's hard on all of you too, but the "misery enjoys company" saying is so, so prevalent in this thread. We've all found our soulmates! What is more special than that? smile.gif

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are bursting with fullness like I am. Hugs!

I've never called anyone to check the status of our case but I figured I'd give it a shot today since I'm feeling chipper smile.gif.

When you guys call to check on your case, do you call USCIS or the NVC? I've been trying to dial 603 334-0700 for the NVC and am just getting a busy signal. I'm calling from a cell phone, does this make a difference? The website says it requires a touch tone, so I wasn't sure if that was it.

Best of luck, everyone! We're well on our way.

Congrats! Please update your timeline so we can all see ourselves move up one spot smile.gif.

Cham, I'm so sorry you're all stressed out. Take a deep breath and remember that the longest part of the wait is over. You're closer to marrying him now than you've ever been! There are lists of questions here on VJ, have you or Kai looked at them? If he's really that worried about it, if he knows the answers to all of those questions he'll be certain to have no issues!
http://www.visajourn...age=exampleq#k1
Like Gemmie said, they'll probably only ask you a handful of questions. They cannot make moral judgments about age or previous marriages, and it's not uncommon at all for people to have been married more than once or twice until they find the right person. Don't feel bad about things like age and the past, okay?! He loves you so very much if he's willing to go through all of this just to be with you. I don't think the visitation situation matters either. You must have a million pages of phone records, and tons of letters, packages, receipts for wedding stuff, etc. You could probably even throw in a few letters from friends or family members who know the situation. The USCIS says you should have met within the last 2 years, and you have! If they wanted the guidelines stricter than that they would've made them that way. International relationships are always expensive and I'm sure they're used to visitation being an issue. Plus, it's not like you're going through a particularly high fraud embassy.

Good luck and I really hope you get your NOA2 soon!

SOOO...now that we are approved my co-sponsor just backed out at the last minute and I have no idea what I am going to do. I asked my dad if he would be willing to sponsor JOhny and I have yet to get an answer out of him. Dammit why does the united states make it so hard. My fiance went to school here but yet cannot come back here without a fight. I highly doubt after someone goes to college in a rich country goes back to a poor country and wants to come back to a rich country to use his education would be a public charge. But yet they also make them wait three months to get a job, even someone that go educated here....so ya basically i dont know what to do...he might not be coming home after all...

I'm sorry you have to go through all of that sad.gif. Did they say why they backed out? Like, is there some kind of misunderstanding about what it entails so that you could convince them? I hope it all works out, and soon! You certainly don't deserve any more stress.

I called NVC and they told me my case was sent to the NVC on 11/20/08. I AM SOOOO HAPPPY

Congrats!!!

I have a quick question about addresses. I'm a college student, so I put my home address instead of my college one for all of the I-129F forms. Sebastian has lived in London for about a year and a half, but still has all of his mail sent to his parents' home too. He listed his parents' house as his address on the I-129F because at the time of filing, he wasn't sure how long he'd be staying there.

I'm now gathering proof of an ongoing relationship. I have letters and packages that he's sent me, but all of them list different addresses for both of us than the ones we filed with. He sent the packages from London to my college. I'm wondering if it makes more sense to just omit the physical letters and packages to avoid confusion (we still have phone records, emails, I bought a plane ticket to visit him next month, etc.) or if I should just include a letter explaining the discrepancies.

Any thoughts?

I'm more excited than ever! And let me share my excitement with you, so that maybe I can spread some happiness since some of you seem pretty down.

Each day that passes is a day that we're closer to being united with our future husbands and wives. We really are in the home stretch! The biggest part of our waiting is over, and even for those who are waiting to use the NOA2, the situation will soon be in OUR HANDS and not the government's. At last!

I am so overjoyed for the people who already have their NOA2 and have no doubt that ours are all on the way. I have longer to wait than most of you because I'm technically an August filer, but I'm starting to gather everything. By next week, the cosponsor paperwork will be in a nice little envelope and ready to be mailed. I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving and we're a mere month or two from an approval.

Christmas is nearing and listening to jazzy holiday music while driving down the snowy roads makes me feel really in love. I miss Sebastian, but the warm, fuzzy feeling of love is way more overwhelming.

Remember, we are all head over heels in love and our stories are INCREDIBLY romantic. This is the stuff books and plays are written about- falling madly in love with an exotic foreigner and fighting all odds to be together. And our stories lead to fluffy white dresses and happily ever after smile.gif.

Keep your chins up! Lots of hugs!

This may be a ridiculously early time to ask this question- but have any of you looked into the logistics of your foreign fiance(e)s getting a U.S. drivers license? Sebastian doesn't have a license in the UK so we think he'll need to start from scratch here in Pennsylvania. I can't seem to find information on a foreigner getting a Pennsylvania driver's license (not sure if he'd have to get a permit for 6 months, then get a license like they make teenagers do here, or if he could jump right into taking the test itself) but thought maybe you guys would have some experience with this.

Obviously, we have much bigger fish to fry right now, but it was something that came up in conversation yesterday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

I try not to look at my timeline too often because all the fluctuations will drive me mad if I do, but today I gave in. The last time I checked, it said somewhere around Thanksgiving so these past few weeks I've been getting really giddy about what the next month might bring. Then I look today and it says from the end of December- January! sad.gif sad.gif I'm meeting with my cosponsor next week to have all of the forms notarized- should I hold off? It says everything is valid within a year, and even if we're pushed back a month from what we were expecting, I don't think that will really make too much of a difference.

Hugs to all of you, whether you're in a great, happy situation with your fiance(e)s or whether you're having some doubts and difficulties.

Yaaaay!

We're a little worried about how long it takes to get an interview too. We're planning on March at this point (we're a few weeks behind you).

We're in the same boat as you, Aubrey! He's waiting on his police report, I've requested my transcripts but I'm just waiting on my cosponsor to request hers. I know she doesn't have any of her other stuff together because I told her to wait so her paystubs are recent. I haven't filled out the I-134 nor have I had my birth certificate or anything notarized because I want everything to be as recent as possible. Our timeline says we shouldn't be seeing an NOA2 until the end of December so I think we'll be fine waiting until I'm home for Thanksgiving. At the same time, if by some miracle we had an early approval I don't want to spend weeks gathering this stuff! Uggghhh...and I'm worried about how the holidays will affect us. I can guarantee everyone and their brother will be on vacation at both the embassy and the service centers. I hope that doesn't delay us toooo much.

How are you guys dealing with the work notice thing? Sebastian is required to give a month's notice and he's a little concerned about giving them his notice once we know the interview date just in case something goes wrong at the interview. It makes more sense for him to wait until after the interview, but we don't want to wait an extra month to be together!

Thanks Cham and Stevew158!! Looks like i will be getting ssn before getting married! star_smile.gif

Terri and Seb: wow! not long to go till you see your SO. I hear that Stonehenge is quite amazing to see. Very mystical.

Yeah, we're really excited. I was there for nearly a whole year and that's the one place on my list I just never made it to.

About this SSN business, our situation is a little complicated. Sebastian lived in the states while he was a kid, his dad had a work visa here for 5 years, and for whatever reason they gave him a SSN. We've done a little research and it looks like they only offered the dependents of people on that particular visa social security numbers in the state of California, and they've since stopped this practice.

I don't know if he still has the card or not, but should I assume he's safely in the system and we get to skip that step? I'm sure I'll call them anyhow, it's just a weird set of circumstances.

The worst part of that story? Sebastian's parents gave birth to his younger sister while they were in the states. He lived here for 5 years (ages 8-13...really important growth and development years), very much identifies himself as part American, and his sister who lived here for a few months has an American passport and could move here at a whim if she wanted to.

Grrrr!

Things are quiet here, too. Just waiting for next month so I can finally visit the UK! We've made arrangements to have engagement photos taken in London and Oxford so today I bought a pretty gown for the occasion. We also booked a trip to Stonehenge while I'm there. December 27th can't come soon enough...

How did you guys all get together?

Awww, look at you two being all cute and in love!

I was considering studying abroad in either England or the Czech Republic so I posted something on another forum I belong to asking for advice on the two universities I was debating between. It turned out that not only had Sebastian graduated from Oxford (the university I really wanted to get into) but he'd graduated from the very same Oxford college my American university has an affiliation with! So we started chatting on AIM so he could give me academic advice. Then we started talking on the phone nearly every day and before we knew it, we were in love despite never having met. I was always so skeptical of stuff like that until it happened to me!

I was accepted to Oxford (another miracle, considering they don't even offer my major there) a few months later and 8 months after we'd started chatting, he met me at Heathrow. The rest is history!

WOW it looks gorgeous guys !!

What date have you booked/ or do you have in mind?

We haven't booked anything, we're going to wait until he's officially booked his flight here to make any kind of definitive plans. The great thing about this is we can be really flexible since there aren't any guests. We'll wait and see when he's here, and then see when the master suite + the photographer we want are available and just go! We're hoping it'll be in March or April and luckily those are still considered the off-season and most photographers we've called are totally open. Same with the honeymoon cabin, it's only booked for one weekend in March so we have tons of wiggle room. Did you guys set a date yet? I'm still very jealous of your beach wedding!

Also, congrats crs! Our NOA1 dates are pretty close and...wow...I'd be freaking out if we got it this soon. I don't have nearly enough stuff together.

That is beautiful where is that??? I wish that we could do something like that but I dont know of any places around there that do that....

The mansion is in Sharon, PA and the cabin is on Buckeye lake in Ohio. I STRONGLY recommend looking for vacation rentals in your state, regardless of how hopeless you think it might be. At first I was like, "Uh, yay? A honeymoon in Ohio? A wedding in ugly Sharon?" but there are literally dozens upon dozens of gorgeous log cabin rentals. You get way more for your money using vacation rentals instead of hotels plus the hundreds of dollars, and time, we're saving by not flying is amazing. That place I posted is only $159 a night for the entire house.
