K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTimelines
I've listened!! Some of us do.. :D I was actually enthused to read that there was a timeline.. my mistake for missing or forgetting that this was out there. So.. posting here to make sure my timeline shows up on the side and I don't have to enable anything in my account.

YESTERDAY I received two things.. my notification of approval from the VSC for my I-129F.. as well as a notification from the NVC that they have my petition and will send it to Mumbai in 1 week! I'm so happy.. In looking at the processing times for I-129F for Vermont it seemed that I wouldn't be even looked at until later in the year.. YES!!!

Thanks to all unsung heros out there who unknowingly helped me fill out the documents by finding answers in these forums! Mine went through without 1 RFE thank goodness!!!!!!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI'm new here...
thanks so much for everyone's welcomes and replys.

Neither I nor my fiance have any criminal records, in fact i have a government security clearance because i'm a flight attendant and he's never been in any trouble. from what i see everything should go well until it comes time to wait for an interview appointment and that's when one waits forever. But we will be patient, and I'm lucky because with my job I can go down to see him for a week every month.

Anyway, thanks for all the great information, this site is fantastic.

Mary

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI'm new here...
Hello everyone! This is on behalf of Mary and Carlos who just got engaged and are VERY excited!!

I (Mary) am an American citizen and my fiance Carlos is from the Dominican Republic. We are just getting started gathering information and everything about the K1 visa for his entry in the USA. I've been reading so many site that have a lot of helpful information, but I am still quite nervous about it all! I really want us to get approved as easily and quickly as possible.

So of course I start with the question I'm sure has been posted a million times... from sending in the original packet to receiving the K1 visa, generally how long does it take? I know it varies, but what is the average?

Secondly, is it a problem that we haven't known eachother for too long? We've been together for only a couple of months but are two educated and mature adults who are ready to get married. I am a flight attendant, so I am able to go to Santo Domingo quite often. We have plenty of pictures, emails, phone bills, etc., to show an ongoing and real relationship.

Lastly, I saw in one of the emails that they said they investigated someone's case for 8 months. What exactly do they investigate. Not that either Carlos or I have anything in our pasts that is negative, but, for example, I worked without a permit in Venezuela for a couple of months while staying with a friend there in college, and I just hope that something like that won't be a problem (I was never caught or anything)...

Any advice would be very much appreciated. I'm so axious and exited for him to come here so we can finally be together, and I'm so nervous that it's going to take years!!

Thanks

Stupid RFE: court records from a TRAFFIC stop.

If it shows on the PCC, no matter how trivial you think it is, get certified copies of the court records, because the NVC will want them.

I am the beneficiary..only one to immigrate. Should I send my birth certificate only?

submit a copy of your birthcertificate if this is what the instructions asked for.

I was a translator in the army. Can I translate these papers? Is there a specific format/way required by the NVC?

Don't translate it yourself as you might be questioned. Go to a translator and have it notarized. Remember that you are dealing with the government. So play safe.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCan I withdraw petition prior to interview?

can I notify NVC and the embassy that I wish to withdraw the petition even if I haven't filed for divorce yet?

Since your petition is already at the embassy and the interview is already scheduled. It is best to call the embassy or put it in writing about your intention of withdrawing the petition. :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-3032

My husband faxed to me a copy of the DS3032 that they sent him, as I have not received the one they sent me. I filled-up the form, signed it and faxed it back to him. He sent that form to NVC together with his letter explaining why he is sending a fax copy.

:) JR

I am also in the same situation. NVC has generated AOS bill & 3032 forms for us today. I will definitely try my best to save some time in order to compress NVC process duration.
But my question here is what is the best way to change my wife (beneficiary) overseas address. I am guessing the change of beneficiary address will not cause us any delay.
Please advise.

Thanks,

When I moved to another address while we are proocessing at NVC, my husband sent them an email with regrads to my change of address. You have to put your case # (change of address) on the subject to give them an easy time to locate your case. Hope this helps.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresnewbie with spouse visa questions
Greetings everyone, I was fortunate enough to find this great forum. I have a few questions. ?
1. I have primary custody of my 9 yr old child and receive s.s. disability payments for my child, from my ex wifes benefits, these are not listed on my tax returns by my tax preparer. can they be used as income on the AOS ? /With the IR-1/CR-1,,is an AOS required by united states immigration and is it no longer needed once she enters the U.S. as a citizen. From what I have read on this forum so far it appears to me as if the AOS is mainly needed by the other country as proof of support, by the sponsor / spouse for the immigrant to qualify for the visa.. ??
2. Am I correct in understanding that with a IR-1 / CR-1 visa that as soon as my wife enters the U.S. she becomes a U.S. citizen.
I read on the AOS form at the bottom that as soon as the immigrant becomes a U.S. citizen that the sponsors financial responsibility ends, ie.. co-sponsor.
3. I am self employed as a home improvement contractor my, income last year was 18,000.00 m-l. I can show assets for the difference for three years.
She has A child which will make our family size = 4. I have been working for a customer off and on for the last three years he has plenty of work for me, If I show steady work as his employee and a letter from him that he likes my work and has hired me as A full time employee, and that he pays me in cash as I take care of my own taxes with my business will that be accepted. .Can I show hand written receipts on company letterhead by the owner ( he has an imported hardwood business ) or does it have to be a paystub with deductions taken out.
4. If AOS is still required does the ins keep track of the assets listed for the three year period.
I am A newbie and have not had a chance to read this entire forum.
What I have read looks like a great forum full of caring and helpful people.
Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduressituation in Ukraine..

I just read in the news that the E.U. is planning on allowing Ukrainians to travel to all countries that are a part of the E.U. without visas. I have read there are countries that have lower cost of living then U.S. and a better lifestyle. Look into it, also what about becoming citizens of one of them countries for a chance to move to U.S. easier.

Middle East and North AfricaFamily Death Overseas

I lost both my parents while I was in the U.S. unable to say goodbye, unable to attend any of their funerals, so let me answer your question from my personal perspective. You might find it a bit strange, perhaps even heartless, but you asked.

As every Buddhist is well aware of, we have no way of influencing things beyond our control, which includes the death of a loved one. What we can influence, however, is our own reaction to events, as we have a mind, intelligence, and self-control.

Some people are devastated about such an event, unable to eat, unable to work, get depressed, cry like a baby. My wife is one of those.

Others, and I belong to the latter group, know that not being able to attend a funeral means nothing to the deceased. He's dead. He doesn't see, he doesn't mind, he doesn't care, he's gone already. What's left is a lifeless body that will be burned or eaten by worms and thus returned to where it came from.

The father is dead, yet he will always live. He continues to live in the memories your husband has of him. I therefore like to turn epilogues into celebrations of life: remembering a person, the best of him or her, reflecting on the most memorable moments in life, instead of mourning the loss. Life: nobody gets out of it alive. So explain to your husband that his depression and pain are only hurt himself, not his dad, not anybody else, perhaps with the exception of you, as you stand by your man.

I would say as politely as I can: "get over it. Your dad is gone. Remember him as the best dad you ever had, and now let's focus on the now, not on the past. Try to take it like a grown up man."

I wrote my two epilogues and mailed them to my daughter. She read them at the funerals and reported that they were very well received. To this day I remember my parents in the best possible way. I have photos of them in my hallway, and they live on in my memories, as that's the only thing that survives time unconditionally.

Thanks for the advice, I agree mostly. My husband thinks along the same way too. He's not sad for the person who died, and knows there is nothing he could have done, just sad because he will miss him. Along the same line, he also knows that his father will not miss him at his funeral, and that he would have understood him missing it. However, he would have liked to have been there to support his family, and to get some kind of closure. He is doing much better now. The first few days are always hard. He has been able to talk to his family a lil more, and has gotten a little closure. So he is not so far gone and depressed, and out of reality that I need to wake him up with a "get over it". I appreciate what you are saying, and know where you are coming from. I am sorry for the losses that you have suffered too!

Thank you, and I will pass your condolences along to my husband!

It must be so hard. Just be there for him. Listen when he wants you to, give him space when he needs it and just let him know you are there.

Thank you, this is pretty much what I have been doing. I think its the right thing to do in this case, and he is doing much better now. Thank you for the thoughtful advice!

Thanks for all the thoughtful posts. As most of you have said, I have just been trying to give him his space, and be a good listener. Today was really hard, cause they are doing a Funeral for his father, and he can't attend... and nobody has contacted him today. I am sure they are very busy, and he knows this too.

WOM- Your idea of the flowers, candle, Qur'an verse, and pictures was very nice. Maybe I can try to work something out like this tonight!

I am sorry for the losses with in your families that have led you to have these experiences, and thank you for sharing about them.
