Tanya - so sorry to hear about your instructor. That's absolutely tragic. sad.gif
Filiz - sounds like your first days in the US have gone well!
Erika & Wendy - good luck!!!!! Keep us posted!

Things are going OK here. It has been 4 1/2 months since we arrived in the US and about 2 since we moved to our own apartment in CA. I've been working for a month, but Okan has been struggling to find work. It has been incredibly difficult and frustrating, but we're both trying to stay positive. They say that the unemployment rate here in the Bay Area is 10% or more, so jobs are not easy to find.

The silver lining is... I passed his resume on to my HR department and there's a temporary IT position that might be a good fit. The recruiter called him immediately and I think they're going to set up an interview! It would just be wonderful if we both found good jobs... and at the same company!? We'll be doing vastly different things, but at least we could be green and carpool. smile.gif

Not much else to report from here... I think I'm missing Turkey more than Okan is, or at least that what he tells me! I'm happy to be working but I find myself just planning our next trip back, not sure when, but perhaps XMAS. I'd love to go in the summer, but after melting for 3 months in Marmaris last summer, I don't know if I can do that again!

Anyway, hope you're all well and having a nice week. Kendine iyi bak!

-cami

Thanks Cami and Tanya!! I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight!!

Cami, that is wonderful news about the perspective job for Okan!! I hope that works out!!

Take care everyone!! I am off to try to get some sleep smile.gif

Oooh, 6 whole hours in our favorite airport (Frankfurt)? You lucky girl you!! tongue.gif

Well this past week has been beyond surreal in my world. I had an exam at school last Thursday and showed up to take it, only to learn that one of my nursing instructors had been murdered the night before. Absolutely horrible. Then I went for my 1st trimester screening ultrasound on Friday...everything looked excellent with the bebek and my spirits were lifted from my horror and depression regarding my instructor, but now I am receiving calls from the Dr's office telling me that they need to reschedule my amnio for this Friday. AMNIO?!? I was never scheduled for an amnio, nor do I need or want one....and it kinda scares me to think that had I actually had an appointment there for this Friday, somebody would have walked into my exam room with a huge needle in their hand, intent on puncturing my belly with it! Scary, scary world I tell you....

I will be soo beyond happy when this semester is over and I can put all this craziness behind me and start baby planning and looking forward to soaking my toes in the Marmara for a couple weeks this June!!

I need a break! dead.gif

Hi everybody!

It is 1130 at night here in Arizona. My flight leaves at 5am and I have a layover in Dallas for 6 hours and another layover in Frankfurt for 6 hours! Not the most efficient flight, but my other choice was 1 hour between connections...nice huh? We may see Yilmaz, but my voice is near gone....sucks....and I am going to be beyond myself with anxiety...pray for us and of course Wendy and Yilmaz too!
If all goes well, I will let you all know within days. I have so much to do tonight. I am near finished packing and I don't think I will be going to sleep as I slept all day. I will be in Ankara at 6:25pm Tuesday!
I'm praying all goes well. Love you guys! Have a wonderful 2 weeks until I return!

Erika

Oh my Gosh Tanya, that is so shocking about your instructor!! Was it a random killing? How terrible!

I am glad that your doctor's visit went well, but it is weird how they are calling you now for something you did not schedule. Will you still get an amnio?

Your summer sounds like it will be so nice and relaxing (at least for 2 weeks). I miss Turkey (and of course Yilmaz).

I was just looking at prices, and of course they look like they have come down in price. I would have love to visit Turkey this summer (never went in the summer), but we won't be able to travel abroad, unless we get an advanced parole, but that probably won't be completed before summertime sad.gif

Oh, well, first thing is first. We have to get through Wednesday smile.gif

Hugs to all.

Hello all,

Finally I am having some time to write you. Erika yes I really lost myself in my dream i think lol

We live in Eastgreenbush, NY where close to Albany.. This is a nice and quiet are and luckly it is getting warmer here..usually it is very very cold.. I hate cold weather but I can worry about it next winter smile.gif My husband and I traveled with Turkish Airlines on March 5th.. It was a very good and fun flight because of him smile.gif the passport check point was very busy, mu hubby made it through in a few min..mine took longer..It was very easy..the officer only asked which visa i had..i said K-3..he asked the yellow envelope that the embassy had sent me with my visa..and attached the I-94 to my passport that i filled out in the plane.. We waited 5 hours at JFK for Albany plane..got home very late on Thursday..all i remember my hubby was drugging me with the luggages..lol Friday i was like drunk! we went to see his friends on the weekend, because everybody has been waiting to meet me.. It was tiring but certainly fun! they all are very friendly.. I felt very special...

I was very busy with the house last week..Bacause my husband moved here recently there were some unpacked boxes..and of course i had to clean the house all over and washed everything in the house.. my husband`s face was puzzled when i was doing my 10th laundry on the same day lol

and I met his parents last weekend..they were just great! I felt very comfortable at the first moment we met..

now I need to apply for AOS.. some people toldm me i should hire a lawyer but I think I can do this myself! first i will research about which docs and forms i should send to the uscis.. If anynone here can help me on this i would appreciate!

Erika I wish the best of luck on your interview! Yes they told us americans can`t get in the embassy till 1 pm.. but i am sure if you insist they`ll let you in.. I am sure everything will be fine..if your fiance doesn`t have a common name i am sure there won`t be any AP.. I know you did all preperation.. but organize everything in a file because he`ll get excited during the interview when the officer asks something he can find easily.. they ask your love story because they want to see the emotion when you talk.. You are in my prayers~ insallah you`ll be back in the states together heart.gif also wendy.. I wish everything goes well with his interview// all my best wishes with you too..

I am giving my e-mail address please e-mail if any of you want to be in touch with me and I`ll give my phone number too... sibel you know my old e-mail but please email here from now on.. filizwright@yahoo.com I`ll talk to you soon..

I wish all best of luck who has been waiting to be reunited with their loved ones.. This is a very very hard time period, but it will be over eventually.. just a little more patience...

Hi Herkes (Everyone)!!

Julia, I just love this picture!! Cok Guzel!!! I am so glad Onur is making friends fast and adjusting. Wonderful news!! So good to see you guys happy!
We should know more when Yilmaz goes to the Embassy on March 18th. Thanks for asking smile.gif

Sibel, I am so sorry that you are feeling so down. I was thinking like this right before Yilmaz gave me the news that his waiver was approved. I didn't know if I could go on and then we got the good news, but I was close to rethinking this whole thing!! And to think you have been waiting much longer than our 15 months for our waiver approval!! I believe that God does not give us more than we can handle and I think your good news is just right around the corner!! You are in my prayers, I wish I could do more!!

Erika, I am excited for you!! Wow, you will be leaving in less than a week!!! Yilmaz said he is getting there early. He said there is a cafe close by the Embassy and he will have some tea while he is waiting for the Embassy to open. He will be leaving Sunday to go to his sister's house and stay there. Thank God his sister lives pretty close to the Embassy. I feel better that he will be staying with family.

Hi Mina, Deb, Awaterlily, Tanya and Filiz!! I hope you are all doing well.

Welcome to our new members. I wish you both happiness and speed in this journey!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Hugs,

Wendy

Wendy, I am feeling ok, thanks for asking! I'm still a little nauseous and tired (just going to work and back every day drains me, and it takes me a day or 2 to recover from the nights I have school), but basically as good as can be expected I guess.

I am excited right now though...I just bought tickets yesterday for Ozzy and I and my son to spend 2 weeks in Turkey this June! We're planning to stay at "our" hotel by the beach in Istanbul and of course travel to see his parents in Izmit and possibly spend a day in Ephesus too! I can't wait...I just hope I'm not overestimating the energy I'll have at that point! Well anyway, I plan to spend most of the time laying on the beach relaxing & I think I'll be able to handle that!

Filiz, it was so nice to read your account of your interview! Gave me chills and reminded me of ours. I can't believe they changed the rules about letting spouses in, but I'm glad they let your husband come inside after all so he didn't freeze outside!! I hope you have a wonderful time in Turkey together and a safe trip home next week!!

Tanya

I am glad that hear you are doing well! I would be tired with your schedule let alone carrying another living soul inside me. God Bless you!!

I am so excited to hear you are going to Turkey!! I have never been there in June. I hear there are some many more things going on and to do in the summer! Have a wonderful time (I know you all will!)

Yes, I agree, thank you Filiz for posting your experience. I am so glad that you had a good one!! Once again "Welcome Home" (your second home).

This made me laugh out loud!! I have to tell a little story.....

The last time I was in Turkey, we rented a villa and it had a washer and dryer!! I was happy and asked Yilmaz if he wanted me to wash anything. He gave me his stuff and said "Everything is okay, right" Well of course I said yes, and thought, what does he mean?! Well, I soon found out when I took the clothes out of the washer. Everything was a gray/blackish color!! His black underwear had ran over everything (thank God I didn't wash anything good and most of my clothes are black so it didn't effect me). So, as for his white undershirt - Gray!!

He is so funny, he said that it made it special and when people ask him about the color he will say, it is special and only my fiance can make it this way!! (oh how cok tatli, but I am sure he threw it out after I left!!)

As for ironing, I don't iron my own clothes. The first thing I am going to do when he gets here is buy wrinkle free shrits!!!! smile.gif

Haha that's funny Wendy! I don't iron either. I was forced to iron the family's clothes when I was growing up and I guess I rebelled from it LOL. I only buy wrinkle-free clothes for myself and if something does happen to wrinkle, I will re-wash it or throw it back in the dryer. I didn't even own an iron when Ozzy arrived....we had to buy one special just for him, and he is the only one who uses it!

QUOTE
P.S. Onur decided to come a week earlier and will be here this Friday evening...3 days away. I can hardly believe it!

OMG Julia, you must be sooo excited!!! star_smile.gif

Oh, another funny story. When Yilmaz and I got engaged in Turkey, his sister had her engagement party a couple of days before ours. So, since Yilmaz's father is not that well, Yilmaz had to be the "big cheese". While his sister was getting ready, she asked me to iron Yilmaz's shirt and pants. Well, since I may have ironed once in my life, I was nervous to do this since it was for such a special occasion. I think it took me about an hour to do one shirt and one pair of pants. His family (and Yilmaz) were probably thinking, "what is he getting himself into?!" blink.gif

One thing (of many) I found interesting, and totally off toilet topic, is hardly anyone has or uses a clothes dryer blink.gif I ironed EVERYTHING so clothes wouldn't feel stiff.

I noticed this too! Ozzy had a machine at his apartment in Istanbul that he said washed and dried, but it really just "wrung out" the clothes, which would then have to be hung out to get really dry. And he irons everything too. At first, he thought my dryer was wonderful, but now he hates it (I guess maybe one of his sweaters got accidentally shrunk blink.gif oops!).

Also, apparently the American bleach is not as powerful as Turkish bleach....he always says his tshirts and undies are not as white as he wants them to be....sigh....I don't know how to make them any whiter without putting holes in the cotton.... whistling.gif

Oh BTW, something I've been meaning to post....for the enjoyment of everyone who didn't already know about it (I had certainly never heard of it before Ozzy showed me), especially those with loved ones who are newly here in the US or soon to be arriving:

http://www.fulldizi.com/

Click the dropdown menu under "kategoriler" and there are lots of shows to choose from that you can watch online...many are in Turkish and some are in English with Turkish subtitles. Ozzy and I love to relax with his laptop and watch some of these together. Watching the Turkish ones, I can still get the main gyst of things and he translates the important parts, plus it helps me learn. The English ones with the Turkish subtitles are also great because we can both relax and enjoy and get the humor and everything without having to stop and explain to each other smile.gif

Our personal favorites are Son Aga (a Turkish soap - sort of) and How I Met Your Mother...oh and Kurtlar Vadisi.

We also find lots of old Turkish movies posted on YouTube...Sekerpare, Cicek Abbas, etc.

Anyway, enjoy!

~Tanya

I put 4 or 5 pics on each slide.. after i finish it, i'll print it out..colored print..and i will bind it at work..it will be 20 pages i think.. almost 120 pic.. thus i can show them lots of pics in order. I will also take the pictures with me.. If they don't want to look at my presentation fine..it will be a nice memory though smile.gif

Have a wonderful weekend to all!!!! rose.gif

We have another snow day today - one of the advantages to the long and harsh winters in Ohio. But, sitting at home alone with my cat is starting to wear on me. I am growing weary of doing everything alone from carrying the groceries up to my third floor apartment to watching movies. I suppose it builds strength - but I've had enough independent strength building...I am ready to move onto the "we" part of my life. My biggest fear is that come May or June Onur's visa approval will still be pending. I know that there is nothing I can do about that. It's just one of those hard days - sitting at home snowed-in, left alone with my thoughts and my dreams. Sometimes it feels like "happy ending" that I have been waiting for is only a dream which I can see a flicker of, but which always seems out of reach and doesn't seem to be growing any nearer. That's the toughest thing about AP - you don't see it growing nearer...it just knocks you off of your feet one day without any warning. I keep telling myself, some idle weekday I'll check the clearance website and our number will be there and my life will be changed. I hope that day is near.

Hi Julia,

We had a snow day too!! I know exactly how you feel. So many things that I have wanted to share with Yilmaz have passed. And today, the other girls in the office were talking about their plans for Valentine's day!! sad.gif A nice long weekend in the city, since we have off on Monday for President's day!

Keep your chin up. I continue to pray for all of us. I know once you get through this AP, things will go faster than you know it!!

Hugs,

Wendy

btw your practice in turkish is very good.. Keep going.. It seems you are very interested in learning Turkish. I loved that. My husband never forgets the turkish words that i tell him.. Of course i taught him very nice words like "askim, sevgilim, bebegim etc.." ha ha.. he calls my parents "annecim, babacim".. i love the way he speaks smile.gif last time when he was here one of my friend taught him "sus kadin- shut up woman".. when i speak too much he says to me "sus kadin" lol

Tesekkurler!! That is so funny you mentioned "sus". Yilmaz's sisters taught me that one and I will use it quite frequently (joking - saka, sorry can't make the tail on the "s" - of course).

I love that his sister's are always trying to teach me words. I always remember the ones they taught me too. Thank you again for the vote of confidence on my Turkish. I am really trying smile.gif

Best wishes on your interview and I feel that you two will be traveling back to the U.S. together!!

I know Julia! Anyhow, the time is NEVER right and usually comes when you least expect it...yet I can tell you it is the BEST thing in the world. Tanya...when are you and Ozzy think you are going to have some babies? Wendy? Sardes? And we all know awaterlily already has a sweet lil girl and deb has a sweet boy.... heart.gif

I need advice.... :

How long until we get "packet 4" after sending in 3? On VJ it says like 1-3 days! This cannot be right...what were your experiences? (I am doing K-1.)
And.......can I call to make the appointment (he wants me to since it depends on my schedule)??

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks and al have a great weekend...Julia I am not having Absolut Turk but Absolut pears right now!.....stressful week wow.gif

Hi Erika,

I think it was a week or so before Yilmaz got his packet 4. I know that some people didn't even receive packet four and were just issued an interview date (I think this may be rare). I am sure everything will work out great for the two of you!! I know that it can be frustrating and nerve racking!!!

As far as kids, I don't think I am going to be able to have them any more. My periods are not regular anymore, and I would hate to have complications or an unhealthy baby. But, that is okay. I will enjoy his sister's baby!

Well.... I was planning on being tight-lipped for a little while...but with all this talk about babies, I might as well come out and say it. Ozzy and I found out on Wednesday (well I should rephrase that...I found out on Wednesday...he found out last night after he got back from his trip and we found a minute to spend alone together LOL) that we'll be expecting a little one, probably in late September/early October!

The timing isn't the greatest, as I'll still have ~2.5 months of nursing school left to get through after the baby's here (we were hoping to wait until after I graduated), but we're ecstatic nonetheless...Allah will give us wisdom to sort out the details and I firmly believe everything will work out perfectly fine in the end. star_smile.gif

BTW, Awaterlily, your daughter is absolutely precious!! She is just getting cuter and cuter!

~Tanya

Tebrikler Tanya and Ozzy!!!! Cok Tebrikler!!! I am so happy for you both! Wonderful news!! Everything will work out fine, put it in God's hands (I know you will)

Big hugs to you both!!!

Ahhhh that face is to die for! I just want to scoop her up! Enjoy this precious age awaterlily...and the so many precious ages to follow!

I like your advice about the timing is never right, you just have to make up your mind to do it. If I wait until everything is "just right" I will be 50! But I do know that I would prefer to have a baby-free marriage for at least one year, maybe two. But - who knows what will happen!

Cok Guzel!! Tesekkurler for sharing with us. I am enjoying seeing the pictures and how she is growing!!

Well said Tanya!!

Hi Julia. I love your picture too!! Such a beautiful couple!!

As far as the visa, we are still waiting for the approval notice to arrive at the Embassy. Nothing can be done until they receive that. Oh well, more time to lose weight!! (hopefully!)

Thanks for asking.

Oh Julia, I know what you mean!! Yilmaz doesn't work all the time. Right before the down turn he was working steadily in construction and had good paying, big jobs. But now, not much.

It is bothersome when people pass judgement!!!

We are all sending our good thoughts and prayers for you and Onur and Erika and Hamit!!! Sibel too!!

Merhaba Herkes!!

I just got off the phone with the Embassy in Ankara (my eyes are a little blurry, it is 4:20 AM here in PA!!)

Can you believe it, they have not received Yilmaz's waiver approval from USCIS yet. And of course they don't have a time frame of when they will. She said we can start to get ready for when they schedule another interview for Yilmaz. We have to prepare the same K-1 papers as before!!!

Oh well, what is that saying, "Good things come to those who wait". Well there must be some awfully good things coming our way!!!!

As an aside, when I called, I missed the prompt for questions on the immigrant visa and was switched to the switchboard. The lady very nastly said, "Didn't you listen to the message" and just clicked me back to the start again! At least she didn't disconnect me, but geesh! Not very nice!!!

Have a good day everyone!!

Thank you so much awaterlily!! I am sorry that I missed your post earlier. I appreciate the good thoughts and hugs!!

Are they sending the letter from the US or from Athens? I wonder why Yilmaz got his letter already and they didn't get theirs? Weird. Hope they get it soon!

It seems like the letter is coming from the US, because she said that USCIS didn't forward this information to them yet. So I guess Athens sent it to the US and then it will get sent to Turkey. Got to love how things work in government!!

Hi Everybody!

I returned from visiting Turkey last night and am already missing my husband so much! I got a chance to meet Julia, Onur, and also Filiz from this website which was a very nice bonus to a visit to my husband. If you get the chance it is really great to meet some of these fabulous people in person whose lives we read about every day. Hoping, praying, and dreaming that this year will begin with some great news for all of us still separated from our loved ones.

Sibel

Sibel, glad you are home safely and I agree with you about meeting these wonderful people on this site who understand what we are experiencing!!

I know that there has been some talk of having a get together, and maybe when we are all with our loved ones, we can set a date and place.

Happy New Year!!

Hi Deb,

What about kodak.com? (or something similar). I did this with my apartment pictures, so Yilmaz and his family could see what I picked out for us and how I furnished it (since I had to do this on my own). I used MSN groups, but I think in another month, the site will be defunct. You could make your album "public" and then friends and family could just log on to your link and see the beautiful new baby.

Good luck, we are all anxious to see the new arrival smile.gif
