I wasn't saying you weren't involved or didn't care, I just didn't know your backstory so it sounded odd. If you'd prefaced your request with the information you just provided, you probably wouldn't have gotten as many "this sounds weird" responses. I wasn't trying to sound snarky, I was just trying to help.

I don't know how much hostels cost monthly - if I were you, I'd goggle "toronto hostels" and look at the sites that pop up. My old roommate stayed at a hostel in Toronto while waiting for his approval to come to the US on a K-1 and he said it was reasonable and affordable - he's still in touch with a number of people he met while living there.

Have you looked into having her stay at a hostel? They generally have reasonable weekly/monthly rates, without the full cost of an apartment.

Also, I agree with the other posters...this sounds a little odd.

No problem, glad some of my knowledge comes in handy!! It's a good tip for pretty much any hotel you stay in, nice or not, if you're concerned about bedbugs. I've been bit twice - once in Guatemala and once in West Virginia (insert WV joke here). Both times I got bit on my feet/ankles (I *hate* wearing socks to bed!) and it itched soooo stinkin bad. So there's another good tip - wear socks smile.gif

The nice hotels can also have bedbugs too. It's a problem in NY, from my understanding. I went for close and not the cheapest. Keep a set of clothes packed or hanging in the closet. Inspect the bed, if you know what to look for. Shower in the morning (I know it's already damn early), and wash all clothing when you get home. I'm sure if I spent the time I could've saved 20 bucks, but I just wanted to book it.

I've mostly only stayed in rural areas the majority of my life... With the occasional stop in a city, or extreme area.

I know what to do for mice... and when you're in crazy spots to look for snakes/tarantulas and stuff.... Even killed some snakes - got lucky when a copperhead tried to nom me...

Even stepped on a sting ray and swam near a shark and a barracuda at one point (I don't recommend that... I was pretty lucky with the barracude).

I've no idea what to look for with a city critter like a bed bug. What do I look for?

When you get in the room, peel back the sheets and check the mattress - along the seams, under the tag, at the edges, etc. If the mattress is spotted or stained, that could be a common place they congregate. Look for little black spots (bed bug droppings) or for the little critters themselves. They're small, brownish, wingless flat bugs...probably less than 1/4". Also check cracks and crevices in the nightstand, baseboard, etc. if you want to be super-paraoid. If you see powder on the bed or on the floors, there's a good chance the room's been infected and treated recently.

If you see them, ask for another room (or a refund). Let management know why.

Golly, who'd have thought I'd have learned so much about bedbugs in Guatemala? laughing.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionIts Official

We had the oath ceremony today at the City Hall in New Haven VT. The children fromthe school next door had decorated the room with hand made flags for the countries of each of the 39 people taking the oath today. And collages of photos and information on each of the countries. It was quite an art gallery! There were new citizens from 3 from Ukraine, 2 from Russia and 1 from Belarus (For my fellow RUB members interest).

The American Legion provided an honor guard, damn it is good to see M1 rifles still serving our country somewhere, they couldn't choose a better one. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts were the "ushers" to seat the guests and also led the "Pledge of Allegience" The Beeman Grade School choir sang the National Anthem, "This Land is Your Land" "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and our state song "These Green Mountains"

Really nice. The whole community was honored to be chosen for the ceremony.

So Alla got her certificate and changed her name to mine. I guess she decided I was a "keeper" after all.

Thanks to all the VJ members and good luck to all of you.

Congratulations to you both .!!!!!! you guys make A great couple. no matter how far, true love will find each other. the very best of wishes for you, Alla and your new sons. sounds like a great community too. !

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Co-sponser Question 11

Hi Danni, Yes, that "N/A k-1 Visa" will work for some Consulates/Embassies and will not work for others. It is especially troublesome with a joint sponsor. You actually have it right in your first posting.

Both sponsor and joint sponsor (be sure to thank Dad) must check the same for question 11. You should check I intend, "to provide food, housing and all necessary...etc...

Same for your father (NO specific time frame or amounts of money). He should check "I intend to supplement or provide food, housing, etc... for my daughters fiance/husband.

For the Question 10 (I think 10) that asks if you have filed a visa petition for anyone, for you it is yes and put current fiance, also list others if you have filed before. Your father will list NONE unless he has filed a Visa Petition before for someone else but not related to your fiance.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, and this is really helpful :) your the best !

O kay, so I have investigated this a lil further to find that the example form for I-134 says to put N/A (K1 visa process for
permanent residence ). Should I put this for both myself and for my co-sponsers I-134?

Do I check the intend to or Dont intend box ? Or do I not check either ?

What does this even mean ...N/A (K1 visa process for
permanent residence )?

thanks again for any advice :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Co-sponser Question 11
Hi, im preparing early for our packet 3. I will have a co sponser for my I-134. My father will cosign for me.

In the I-134 I question #11, i put that I intend to provide room and board for my Fiance for the full length of his stay.

For my fathers I-134, Im not sure what to put for question 11. Does he have to give a specific amount each month, and does anyone know how much is required ? OR can he just say, that he will provide as much as needed for my fiance's full length of stay ?

Should we not say Full length of stay, and instead put a specfic time frame? Any suggestions would be appriciated... thank you so much :)

i recently found out that my father is a US citizen (has dual citizenship with canada). he was naturalized over 30 years ago.

i tried finding information about children of US citizens as far as them getting naturalized. does this only apply if the child of the USC is under 18? once you are an adult, does the fact that your parent is a USC make absolutely no difference and you need to get naturalized the normal way?

Hi...

They say if you are married to a USC for at least three years ...you can apply...

I'm married since 2003, however I've just saw that my GC says ..resident since 3/4/2005

do they go by the date on the GC or by the years you have been married?

If they go by the date on my GC that means I will be eligible only in 3/4/2008

I got confused...

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhen options if N400 based on marriage is denied?
Hi guys
sorry to jump in...
are you saying that a couple can wait a couple of years so
the Immigrant can just file for citizenship based on Residence instead of marriage?

Meredith

Could have gathered all that marriage evidence stuff and applied last year, or just skipped that phase and apply next year. Since my wife had her ten year green card and a fresh foreign passport, we could have waited another couple of years and skipped all that marriage proof stuff, but wanted to end our relationship with the USCIS so debated that option for about two seconds.

Since we already agreed to share our lives together, was no problem for us to add my toaster and other stuff to that list. I considered her more important to me than my toaster.

Hi,
You don't need a valid passport, but you are correct... you need to bring your passport with you only if the IO asks to verify the dates you entered in your N-400 form.

Hi

If you apply for citizenship, I know at some point you need to show your
passaport, correct? I guess they want to see how many times you left USA.
What if you didn't left, didn't go back to your country to visit,
so you still have your passaport but is expired....

Do you have to renew that passport for the interview and bring both expired and
new passport to the interview if you apply for citizenship?

I'm asking becasue I'm trying to understand what 'valid passport" means.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWeird question
Hi,
was her permanent residency based on marriage, like a fiance visa or something?

Im curious about this.
I've been reading in the forum that if 5 years passed, people can use this rule, and is easier than
with that 3 year rule, because they don't ask you all those proof of marriage...
I would really love to know what LPR based on marriage that applied after 5 years
have to say, if they could share their experience.

US Citizenship General Discussion5 years rule or 3 years rule?
Hi there
So the 5 year rule really makes things easier...What is different about it?

I still need to do some reading to find out what documents must be sent
with the apllication, study for civic test etc..And probably Ill be back here with more questions.
But I get anxious all over again just thinking that I still have
this last process to go through
I will have to get over anxiety and fears that something could go wrong,
and apply for naturalization as everybody says that it is better....

M.

No - you qualify under the 5 year rule so that's what you need to check. Even if you check the 3 year box, the IO during your interview will change it to 5 years (which makes it easier for you and him/her to complete your interview).

Go with the 5 year option and make sure you submit what is required with that....

US Citizenship General Discussion5 years rule or 3 years rule?
Hi,
regarding residency through fiance visa / marriage.

On my permanent greencard it says
I've been a resident since 03-04 - 05.
Does it mean I could apply for naturalization if I wanted to?

Should I choose the 5 year rule as oppose to the field 3 years married etc?

Would they still make you prove your marriage etc?
Or after 5 years they don't focus on the USC spouse anymore.

thanks

Hi,
I always wondered what happens to those who had to wait for a letter of decision?
Did they wait for months, a year or years?

I see people who dont' get a decision right away ..Is that because of some ticket, or fine they had to pay or something of that nature?

And, what happens if they don't get aproved?
Would that mean that they continue as permanent resident, but can never become a citizen?

There is option for court marriage also but it takes almost a month. Hindu marriage is very simple and quick. You both guys can convert into Hinduism because Arya samaj only do marriage for HINDUS and don't worry about your christian religion because my wife is white caucasian and she converted into Hinduism and they will give you a new Hindu name but you don't have to mention anywhere in USCIS paper work just use your regular name. Maybe "we" were living together, instead of "I" was living together would make more sense.

"I am living together from April 17 2007 and got my Greencard march 04, 2007 almost a gap of 10 month ."

Phrased differently but saying the same thing, I received my green card March 4, 2007, and we were living together since April 17, 2007. That works out to where you had your green card for 44 days before you joined your spouse.

Could reconsider rewriting your circumstance if you would like a correct answer.

Thanks for the correction. Yeah I am still learning english. My question if I don't share apartment with my wife will that days deduct from living together?

In practice, the USCIS never accepted my invitation to come out to our home, never contacted our friends or neighbors that see us everyday, and my wife's IO, didn't even want to meet me at her interview. I held out my hand to shake it, she wouldn't even turn her head.

It was all paper work, joint tax returns, even those super weak utility bills, but we had literally tons of paper evidence. In reality, could have been living on the other side of the country with the same paper work and actually was living that way before we got married. My job required a lot of travel. We could have even proved that I shared my trips with my wife outside of the country, but they were not interested in that, only in the number of days, she was out of the country. I am the USC sponsor, my wife was the applicant.

You are not giving details to why you were separated from your spouse for that ten month period, asumming that is correct. But if you were out of the country for that period of time, you may have problems.

Explaination :

We were married in September 22 2006 and it took almost 6 months to get the visa process and when I came to US in April 2007 and filed the AOS and it took almost 10 months to get the green card . I neven seperated from my wife and I am still living together. But because of the economy I have job offer pending now ! that is why I am thinking to accept the offer which is in differant state, and I am thinking to live in differant state and spend weekends with my wife. That is my dillemma is it ok if we both work in doifferant state.

Yes I could ! First if you both are Hindi than there is no problem go to the Arya Samaj and get married than registered your marriage at registrar office. If you are christian than just convert into Hinduism it will take only few hours but make sure convert one day before if you get married. Before getting married just get the no objection letter from US embassy in India .

You can apply for citizenship 90 days before your threee years here in the USA as a resident. Those 3 years count from the date in your residence card, when you first entered the USA.

The 3 months leave don't count, that is considered a vacation time. Read the guide to naturalization in the USCIS webpage, all the info you need is there.

You need to study!.
Naturalization guide: http://www.uscis.gov...ticle/M-476.pdf

My wife lived in septembeb 2006 just 10 days in INDIA where we got married than she returned to US and after that I got my visa and came to US in April 2007 and I got my conditional green card in Sep 2007 . Phyically I am living with my wife in US since April 2007 so when my three year living together will count??? I am in delimma because I have a great job offer in differant state 5 hour from PA I am thinking living 5 days in NY and spend weekends with my wife. I have never been out of US and one more thing how they count or deduct the days if one person is out of the state like for 3 month? Should I take the job offer or will it jeropodise my chances of getting citizenship. I have every proof living together like utility bills, rent agreement etc and they will remain as it is even though I would be out of othe state.
