The thing is, no one seems willing to work with me. The chiropractors I've spoken with get concerned when I mention it's an old injury and tell me I should be seeing my regular doctor. My regular doctor doesn't seem concerned that it's an old injury and keeps telling me it'll get better when I lose weight (I've already lost over 100lbs). So yeah....pain.

That's weird. Mine's a very old injury but I've never had anyone not want to look after it. unsure.gif

Congrats on losing the 100lbs! Wow. That is awesome.

I think it's mostly because it was never really treated. I was in a lot of pain for several months after I got kicked, and it finally either became the new normal or eased up enough that I could tolerate it for a number of years. It'll flare up here and there, but this new round of pain is crazy and intense - nothing like the other flare ups (then again, I wasn't carrying furniture the other times either).

I wish it was that simple - I got kicked about 8 years ago in the small of my back, by a 12 year old boy. I've had back problems ever since, and I seem to have done some significant damage to it while cleaning the youth center back around Halloween. I've just been kinda dealing with it since, but it seems to be getting worse =\

If I didn't see a chiropractor I would be immobilized. sad.gif Thank God for good chiropractors. rose.gif

My insurance doesn't cover it, and my doctor and one of my best friends (who's a chiropractor) told me it's not the best route to go down with the old injury.

I could talk about music all day too. Music, theatre and art... yes I could go on and on about all three.

I saw them during Mellon Collie too, before Jimmy OD'd but after the girl in Australia died, so there was seats at their show. I saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens. Before that it was at Lollapalooza, they took Nirvanas spot after Kurt died. I remember my mom told me I couldn't go alone even after I saved up and bought my own ticket and everything. So the morning of the show, I told her I was going to the store and instead hitch hiked to Barrie from North Bay alone and went anyways. I was in SO much trouble when I returned 28 hours later... but it was soo worth it. I had the time of my life.

I met my husband on the zwan board lol. The thing about zwan was at first, I just ate it up, I didn't care what it sounded like, it was Billy - but I soon realized how much it sucked. And then then they broke up and Billy came out with the Future Embrace - AWFUL! I think Billy has just made an extremely insane amount of poor artistic decisions.

Kid A is the only radiohead album I can listen to in it's entirety actually without cringing. When I go see radiohead w/ my husband I go to see Idioteque played live. tongue.gif

I really liked Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie, but really lost interest after that. I liked Billy Corgan, but every interview I read or saw on t.v. with him, he came off as so unbelievably pretentious. Good god, now you've got me thinking about all the bands I loved when I was in school. I can remember my freshman year in high school and sneaking down to this club called the jabberjaw. Saw the chilli peppers before they had a major record deal there, but the most influential band I think I saw there was The Melvins playing a cover of the germs song "Lexicon Devil". That song in that moment rocked my world and changed my musical experience forever. Anyone remember the band Ned's Atomic Dustbin? Or am I dating myself a bit much there? blush.gif I don't know, but this talk of music just made me think of that song "Kill Your Television" by them.

Billy is SO pretentious. I have met him a couple of times and each time it's hard to even hold a conversation with him because he's so out there and his head is stuck so far up his freaking #######. He's like the tortured artist. He whines so much too. I have friends in Chicago who have had to sit with him during social gatherings and they all said the same thing. But man can he write.

I've met Billy once or twice, and yeah....pretentious and whiny about sums it up. I remember after one show a kid (literlly, a kid...no more than 8 or 9) wanted an autograph and he just crushed her. I forget what he said, but it wasn't anything pleasant or nice, and the kid didn't get an autograph. Even Sharon Osbourne couldn't stand him and she's MARRIED to Ozzy. So that's saying something.

QUOTE (Sharon Osbourne)

laughing.gif

His own bandmates couldn't stand him. They have all now abandoned him.

I mean look at Siamese Dream, he didn't even let them play on the album, the only person who played on the album was Jimmy. He took over James and D'arcys parts. But you gotta admit it was such a solid and amazing album, maybe that just fed his already over flowing ego.

I'm not saying the guy's not talented...it's just that he's a jerk. He's a jerk to his fans, his bandmates, his managers, promoters, etc. I'm sure the success made him crazier, but I'm reasonably certain he was crazy to start with smile.gif

The only upside to ours is that Spoom and I get to work on these projects together. I'll have to post some of the "before" and "after" pictures of our apartment - it's a pretty drastic change in some cases!

The apartment's about 1300sq ft of hasn't-been-painted-since-'78. The last people to paint it were my parents, when they were newlyweds (why, why, WHY would you paint your kitchen cabinets antique green?!). Spoom, me, and my family have been working on painting the apartment and fixing it up since August or so. If I never see another paintbrush again, I'll be ecstatic.

My vent of the day:

Moved into our apartment on Saturday - we knew everything wasn't done, but we wanted to start living in "our" own place together now that Spoom is officially in the states. When I last spoke with my grandfather (who is our landlord), my understanding was that the plumber would be out TWO (2) weeks ago to fix the leak/clog in the kitchen sink, and fix the leak in the bathroom. It was also my understanding that their furniture would be moved downstairs so we had room for ours.

So, fast forward to 9pm Saturday night, when we're trying to move stuff in -

Kitchen sink - clogged. Leaks if the water is turned on.
Bathroom - sink leaking from under the vanity, shower not installed.
Spoom's office - filled with furniture that's not ours.
Entryway - Handrail for the stairs (they're steep stairs, too) and coat hooks are missing.

ARGH. We've got the shower hooked up now, and some of the furniture moved around, but we were both about stressed to our wit's end on Saturday night. And someone needs to kick that plumber.

Some friend on FB just put up a crapload of old pictures of us back in our raver days. I am laughing so hard I am crying. Luckily she didn't tag them and I told her if she did, I'd kill her but I am going though these things and I'm just like #######? I mean really... this was only 12 years ago at most... crazy how much things change.

 This is why I made it a point to be BEHIND the camera during those years. Most of the time I got a free pass into events because I was doing photography, and I also don't have (m)any embarassing pictures to risk being put online. I'm pretty sure I own the only copy of the one picture I know about.

Some of my friends, on the other hand...well, let's just say I have a folder entitled "these pictures never go online, ever" that is full of pictures that they've mandated I never post.

When the youth center first opened, we had a very conservative, very straight-laced pastor helping with our kids. I was taking pictures one day, and two girls crowded around him and were like "Take our picture!" He was shocked, because the kids always complained he was too strict and didn't seem to like him much. They said "Here, we'll teach you how to be cool in pictures!" and taught him the west side thing.

I have a picture with two middle school girls and the most conservative pastor you've ever seen making the symbol with both hands. I crack up every time I see it. He was mortified once I explained it!

Down 5lbs as of today! Onto the next 5!

This is still mostly me losing weight thanks to giving up restaurant food and pop for Lent. I don't really have the opportunity to work out at the moment - I get up for work at 6 and leave at 7, work from 7:30am - 7:00pm (more like 7:30 before we're out of there some nights), and then come home, eat dinner (thankfully Spoom is an amazing cook!) and then fall asleep on the couch. I don't really get a lunch break since I go right from one job to the other, so delaying dinner a bit to work out would likely cause me to pass out (usually dizzy by the time I get off work). After dinner, I have no motivation to work out whatsoever, and I'm usually asleep a half hour after we finish dinner. Neither job gives me an oppotunity to work out - no breaks at either job, and I'm on my feet the entire second job chasing middle/high schoolers. It's frustrating.

In 06-07ish I lost about 100lbs. Haven't put any of it back on, really, but have another 100+lbs to go before I'll be happy with the way I look. Even after losing another 100, I'll still be about 20lbs over my "ideal" weight.

Unfortunately, exercising and eating right didn't do anything all last year when I was trying to lose weight. I'm doubtful it will now. I have an appt. to get bloodwork done to test my thyroid (mom had thyroid cancer, and treatments, while pregnant with me) and to get tested for pre-diabetes, but I don't have the $ to afford the co-pay. I also don't "really" have time to exercise - 12 hour workdays, with meetings and church stuff and family committments after work. I'll have to find some time somewhere though.

So, short term: 5lbs (within a week or two - I'm giving up pop for Lent)
Long term: 100lbs (within the next year or two)

CanadaRefresh Everything Voting - For those in the US
I originially posted this in the off-topic thread, but the wise and mighty krikit assured me it was okay to make my own thread about it!

Please vote for my youth center in the refresh everything contest (http://www.refreshev...m/nwyouthcenter or text 102945 to 73774). We run on ~40K/yr and provide services to 400+ kids in grades K-12. I'll give more details if anyone wants them, please just ask. We're going to be adding a quiet study area (have you ever tried to do homework with 50 kids running around you? ), making a bathroom handicap accessible, adding a summer learning program for middle/high school age group, and a whooole bunch of other stuff.

Please please please please vote if you're in the US (or get your sweetie to vote, if they're the USC!). We're in 84th place and need to get into the top 10.

Oh, and the kids get to dye my hair whatever color(s) they want if we win. I promise pictureeeeesssss!

Actually, there are three ways to vote:

Online: http://www.refreshev...m/nwyouthcenter

By Text: 102945 to 73774

On facebook: Install the "pepsi refresh voting app" and search for "Northwestern" - we'll be the first one that pops up!

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help!! This means a lot to the kids and the community!

I want to stay for 5months.......but if i have a note from a employer for 2weeks entered and stayed for 5 would they know? cOULD i get in trouble?

Lying to a border officer.......IMO a very bad Idea. Never know how that might affect the immigration case. And I am sure there is some form of trouble if caught lying.

Atleast when I cross the border they swipe my passport, and the same when I come back to the US. So, I do assume they would know how long I was there. I ussually have no problems going into Canada, Its coming back into the US where I get inspected and they play 50 questions.

I always bring a letter of vacation from my employer when I cross, and a recient paystub as well. (Just to be on the safe side)

Just be honest when going across.

CanadaCanadian Marrying US Citizen in US
You do not have any visa's with the US right? You just visit using a passport?

My wife and I used to travel back and forth using passports. My wife and I got married in the states. She lives in Canada, and I live in the US. She came for a visit, we got married and then she went home. Once she went home we filed the I-130(Petition for Alien Relative)and all of the supporting documents/fees with USCIS. The timeframe for approval of that varies and seems to take shorter time for some, and longer for others. Once USCIS approved our petition, they sent it off to the NVC. And Then you start sending things into the NVC.

I suggest you look at I-130 guide IR1/CR1

Thats assuming you get married first and then decide to do the immigration process.

To sorta give you and Idea... We started our whole immigration process in January, now we are waiting for an interview to be scheduled in Montreal. So expect it will take some time for this whole process.

There is also the K-1 if you choose to go that route. K-1

Coming here on a different type of visa with the intent to marry is illegal..and you would never be allowed into the US.

Id suggest doing it correctly.
Hope that helps some.

We crossed the border at the ambassador bridge this morning. It was quite busy. But everyone we had to talk with was very nice. That includes the guy in the booth before being sent into the building. They all were nice and laughing. Once inside a guy started taking care of us right away. It took about an hour and 15 minutes for them to finish processing the visa. When they inspected our car they barely moved anything. It looks like he just moved a few items. I have nothing bad to say about anyone or anything that happened there.

On a side note, they were definatly busy holding folks there and asking alot of questions of folks. Even separating the couples into rooms and asking them things. We even saw one girl get escorted to the back by people wearing rubber gloves. And when she came back out she was not wearing everything she went in with.

Be glad it's Canada and not Guatemala! Before we go to Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala every few years, we soak our sheets in bug-killing chemicals, and then put *those* on the bed once we get there - take 'em off in the morning, put 'em back on at night. Because the chemicals stay active for up to 6 or so washes, I use them during the off-years for "questionable" hotels, camping, and as a blanket for outdoor events. No bugs for me! laughing.gif

Spoom and I went to a Canadian halloween party last year as John McCain and Sarah Palin - we won scariest costume laughing.gif Don't know what I'll be this year yet, though.

While I'll miss his friends' halloween party this year, I'll be passing out candy during our local trick-or-treat (I run the local youth center). We open our building to families who want to take a break, use the bathroom, or warm up. The kids can get a snack, color, play air hockey, foosball, pool, etc. It's good publicity for us, and helpful to the parents. The older kids (middle and high school) are having a halloween party with a costume contest and a few games, a DJ, pizza, etc. the day before halloween. Have I mentioned I have the best job ever? smile.gif
