National Visa Center (Dept of State)Question about birth certificate for NVC

He is 21; his father has never had anything to do with any of the visa process. (Or any part of his life for that matter.) Thanks for the quick reply. :)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Question about birth certificate for NVC

Hi there,

I have a question about our IR1/CR1 visa... I haven't contacted NVC yet directly, this question just came about today. I know it's the busiest time of day at NVC so I thought I'd ask about on here to see if anyone could help while I wait for the slower hours.

My husband (in England) is collecting supporting documents for his DS-260 visa application packet for NVC, but his english birth certificate doesn't have his father's name on it. He doesn't know who his father is and his mother has not talked to his father since before my husband was born. (His father was out of the picture before my husband was born.) Also, my husband has never asked his mother about the name of his father as he does not even want to know who he is... On my husband's birth certificate, the "father" box is blank. When we applied with USCIS, we told them he didn't know who his father was, and they never questioned it, but the travel.state.gov website asks for a birth certificate with BOTH parents' names on it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to carry on without his father being on the birth certificate? They have no way to contact him as it's been 21+ years anyway.

Thanks to anyone who has read.

:)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Should I be receiving auto replies from nvcinquiry@state.gov?

Hi there,

I have sent a few emails to nvcinquiry@state.gov (all lowercase) and have seen a few people mention that they have received immediate auto reply messages. I have not received a single reply from any of the messages I have sent, period.

Also, I just read the thread titled "NVCinquiry@state.gov vs. nvcinquiry@state.gov" in which that member stated,

"For the past week I've been on the phone with reps at the NVC telling me they weren't going to receive the email if I wasn't receiving an auto reply." Well I have not received one, ever. So, are they not receiving the emails I am sending? Even though I am using all lowercase? This does not make sense to me.

I just want to know if this is typical or if I should be receiving replies/receipts? I tried to request email communication for our case for quicker communication and I wanted to know if it was successful. I don't know what I am doing wrong here.

Thanks for any help/responses guys.

Cayla

National Visa Center (Dept of State)AOS fee payment timing out constantly, normal?

That's definitely not typical. It should go through right away. No timeout messages.

It might be a problem with the website that you might have to wait out. Or you could try using another computer/restarting the computer/restarting your internet (unplugging modem if you have cable etc.) Either way, you should be able to submit the payment without any error.

Good luck!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)I-864 household size question

Hi there,

I (the petitioner) am a full-time student working part-time, so I only made roughly $10,000 last year. My dad is our joint sponsor and he filed taxes jointly with my mom. I'm trying to figure out how we go about filling out these papers, but from what I gathered, I will fill out an I-864, my dad will also fill out an I-864, and my mom will fill out an I-864A?

The part I'm confused on is household size. Do my dad and I both claim my (immigrant) husband under the household size on each of our I-864's? (I know the paper says "DO NOT COUNT ANYONE TWICE, but took that as don't count any person twice on the same paper i.e. my husband as the "immigrant", then again as my "spouse".) I just don't want any issues when I send this out.

Thanks for reading.

:-)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Panicking, forgot to send out joint-sponsor proof of citizenship in AOS

Nevermind! I called on my lunch break and was able to get through!! I called, called, and called again until I got through (about 50 times, lol) and spoke to someone after about 20 minutes of being on hold. All I have to do is send the copy of the birth certificate in with the AOS. barcode sheet. Just letting you all know in-case anyone else gets in this situation.  :crying: Forgetful me. :(

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Panicking, forgot to send out joint-sponsor proof of citizenship in AOS

Hello.

Oh my gosh... I just came across my copy of my joint-sponsor's birth certificate. Which means some how it didn't make it into the whole packet that I sent off to the NVC on April 16th. I'm panicking, so I'm planning to express that out A.S.A.P. before I get a checklist, to speed things along. My question is, do I fill out an I-864 AGAIN, then have my dad (joint-sponsor) fill out an I-864 AGAIN, then send them both out again with the AOS barcode on top? With a letter on top explaining my situation? Or can I send it out alone, with a letter explaining that this left out of the packet?

:bonk:  I feel like such an idiot.

Thanks,

- Noobie.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Returning AOS checklist- Do I need to resend tax returns/W2s

On Friday (5/9) I received a checklist for not answering my joint-sponsor's gross income for 2013 correctly. (I'm not sure exactly what I put the first time around, but the directions say to take line 22 from form 1040, so I've done this.) Together, we've re-filled out the whole I-864 and gone over it a million times to ensure that it's accurate. I'm overnighting it back to NVC today through UPS, but want to know if I need to send 2011, 2012, and 2013 tax returns along with my joint sponsor's W2s again... or will they still have the previous ones I sent them?

I'm at work and planning to send this off after I get off, just need to know if I need to go back home to make copies or if I can go straight to UPS and send this out.

Thanks to anyone who reads this and to anyone who replies!! :-)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)DS-260 Employment History Issue

Just put the first of the month you started working at your former job, since you do remember the month. This is advice the I was given; it is what my husband did for his DS-260, and what I did for my initial USCIS paperwork. We had no issues. :)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)AOS Checklist- letter of employment salary is different from annual income. Will I get 2nd checklist?

Yeah, the only reason I didn't send one off in the first place was because the form i-864 instructions said, "You are not required to submit this evidence, however, unless specifically instructed to do so by a Government official. For example, you may include a recent letter from your employer..." I should have called NVC in the first place and asked if a letter from the mother of the child I work with was sufficient, I just wasn't thinking.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)AOS Checklist- letter of employment salary is different from annual income. Will I get 2nd checklist?

Some info: I am an aide/tutor for a student with special needs and I am paid by a couple. When I did my taxes at H&R Block, they put me down as self-employed, so when I filled out I-864 I put myself as self-employed and thinking that I don't work for a company, I didn't send a letter of employment. (Ugh, I know, I should have!)

Of course- I got a checklist 2 weeks ago asking for a letter of employment, so I called NVC and they said the mother of the child I aide/tutor could write a letter for me stating my salary, no problem.

My question is:

When I sent out my AOS packet in mid April, I put down what I made for 2013 as my current annual income as well, because I have been working the same schedule that I did in 2013. Well, since sending out the packet, my schedule has changed- I started working more, so I've started making a little more money. When I originally filled out the form, my income was somewhere around $10,000, but my letter of employment states $13,500. My "boss" calculated what I will now be making this year. Does anyone know if I will I get a second checklist now because my letter of employment doesn't match my income? I know this is a weird situation and yes I have a joint-sponsor.

I don't want our process to be pushed back again. :(!

Thanks for any responses!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Document packages received 10 days ago, should we start calling?

Do we just say something along the lines of "I am wondering if my case has been completed yet?" or "I'd like to check on the status of my case" ?

It's been 12 days since NVC received my checklist items, I want to check on it, but it hasn't been 20-30 days, so I feel like they'd just feel like I'm wasting their time or to wait for their email? But, I see that almost everyone calls and checks in to see if their case has been completed so this seems pretty normal.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Changing Address at NVC Stage

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Changing Address at NVC Stage

Thanks for the reply, for real? They did not even sent out any email saying they changed it. I am the Beneficiary though and My address is really important during NVC stage because of the interview but will try to check with them from time to time.

No, I did not receive an email response after requesting a change of address. I have emailed them 3-4 times about various things and I have never received any replies. When I called NVC they apologized but that was it. At least my address was changed. Since you are the beneficiary, just make sure to call and check that it has been changed.  :)

Also, if you are changing your address through mail, like someone suggested: I sent in a copy of my passport to ATTN: DR to change my last name to my husband's last name and they have had it for over a month now and have not changed my last name. I have called many times and they just say that they received *a* document in mid April and that's all they can really say... So, I'm glad I chose the email way to change my address because it takes them a while to physically view documents and letters sent to them.  :P

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Changing Address at NVC Stage

Sorry here is the correction

If you are still at the VSC stage you can also wait till your case gets to the NVC stage and then you can give them your new address when you fill out your DS230

For those who have to change address at the NVC stage send NVC an email exactly as it is above on the "quote" with your case nr, petitioners name, address, date of birth etc and then the beneficiary's name, adress, date of birth etc.
You really have to be very precisie with them - as an extra precaution what I wrote in the email was :

Beneficiary's OR Petitioners NEW Address
your name
your new address

Beneficiary's OR Petitioners OLD Address
your name
your old address

PLEASE CONFIRM CHANGE OF ADDRESS

Thanks

I didn't realize this thread was from February 2013- but for anyone else wondering (person above me)....

I did exactly what goodbuck25 stated here. I requested NVC change my (I am the petitioner) address through email and they never replied back to me. After about two weeks I called to see if they had even received my email. Fortunately they did, and they had changed my address for me, I just wish I would have gotten a response. So just send out your email, and if you don't get a reply give it two weeks or so and call them. :)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Has anyone tried to visit with a valid visa during NVC stage?

I'd be curious to know as well. Has anyone traveled during this step without getting hassled? I know it's their job to look out for people who are trying to sneak in but our experience made me uncomfortable...

My hubby came to visit me here in Las Vegas during the USCIS stage, but he had a layover in Minneapolis which is where he had to go through customs and they gave him such a hard time. He brought all of our documentation with our USCIS case number to show them we were going about it the right way and they drilled him with tons of questions and harassed him to the point where he got so nervous. He wasn't expecting this because every other time through customs he had been just fine. I filled out most of the paperwork so my husband couldn't remember what kind of visa we had applied for (CR1) and the guy interviewing him wouldn't accept that. They were going to send him back to England until they got a hold of me on my cellphone at work. I had to answer 10+ questions and explain that my husband is awful with paperwork (lol) so I've been doing it all! The guy interviewing was so rude, I was shaking. He was questioning everything I was saying, and I thought I was going to cry, but ultimately, he said something like, "thank you ma'am your answers match Daniel's, I'll let him through." Thank God he gave him a break and let him through but I wasn't aware we had to answer questions just for a vacation, jeez.. It was like a mini interview, I'd be interested to know if other people go through this as well?

We are now scared to have my hubby fly during the NVC stage, and I can't travel because of my work schedule and I don't have much time off.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)What is "packet 3"? IR1/CR1

I've been confused on what packet 3 is. I know that packet 4 is the interview letter, I got that in my email today, but I don't know if I missed a packet 3? I just noticed that the timeline section on VJ has two spots that say:

Date Rec Instructions (Pkt 3) :

Date Complete Instructions (Pkt 3) :

so I was assuming packet 3 is the email that confirms your case is complete? This would explain why I haven't gotten one yet- as I was notified of a CC through a second checklist email yesterday. Am I way off?  :bonk:

Thank you for reading this/replying.  :)
