Went to Tampa Interview today. Got there early...waited. Called my number away I went. Reviewed my N400 - asked to read English...write a sentence (The Flag is red, white and blue) and my questions...

 

What year was the constitution written (I froze)

What ocean is on the east coast of the US

Name a state that borders Canada

What started the Civil War

What is freedom of religion

When must all men register for the selective service

What is the Capital of the United States

 

I Passed! So glad this is behind me and looking forward to what's ahead!!

I passed my interview today.Yay!

 

Interview experience:

 

My interview was scheduled at 26 Federal Plaza for 1:40pm. I got there about 12:40pm and waited until 1:00pm before going through the checkpoint and checking in. There were about 10 persons including 2 lawyers waiting for their interview. At 1:40pm a very pleasant ISO called my number and took me to her office for the interview. She asked me to raise my right hand and she swore me in. Afterward she gave me a piece of paper with three questions and asked me to read the first one - Who Can Vote? I read it and then she told me to write Citizens can vote. She then asked me the six questions below:

 

(1) What is the highest court in the United States?

(2) How many amendments does the Constitution have? 

(3) What is the name of the Vice President of the Untied States?

(4) Why did the colonist fight the British?

(5) Who makes federal laws?

(6) What group of people were taken to America and sold as slaves?

 

After the questions she told me that I passed and asked if I wanted to change my name then went on to asked questions from my application and check off my answers and then she had me sign it. She noted that I was in college and as she put my application in order she asked me about my major which is same as hers was. She proceeded to talk about college and careers and she encouraged me to try for a job with immigration right after my oath ceremony. She was so pleasant. We had a great talk about counseling, degrees, our children and paying for college for about 50 minutes, inclusive of the interview, and then she gave me the paper that stated that I had passed and told me that I should get my oath letter soon; however, in the event of any delays it could take up to two months (protocol) but she was sure that everything would be fine as delays are out of the norm and she is just putting my file in order and then submit the approval.

 

So, I am just waiting for my oath ceremony update and hope that there will be no delays  :joy:.

US Citizenship General DiscussionFiled N-400 while I-751 is still pending

The I-551 stamp trumps the I-751 NOA / extension letter. If you haven't heard anything by a month or so before your I-551 stamp expires then you should make an Infopass appointment and obtain another stamp.
 
Usually, filing an N-400 whilst the I-751 is pending will force USCIS to adjudicate the I-751 when they come to adjudicate the N-400.

That's strange. Isn't the I-551 just an extension of the conditional residency? Isn't the status still conditional - meaning martiage has to be proven to be bonifide? How can filing for naturalization force USCIS to remove condition? I'm asking genuinely as I know of someone in a similar position -extension. My impression of the matter is that the case is still not approved for full residency and can be denied at any point if not proven. Can you explain?

I have filed for my U.S citizenship here in bakersfield,ca on june 26 and got my biometrics done on august 7... my biometrics should have been done on july 27 but apparently the uscis or the post office never sent my schedule so out of anxiety i did a walk in at the USCIS office and they have my schedule so i got my biometrics done on aug 7..

its been 2 months now since ive heard anything from my application.. no word about scheduling and such..
can i schedule an infopass? 

i have applied for citizenship last year but i was denied becuz i was going back and forth to my home country but it never took this long...
please help me and if anyone is in the Bakersfield or Fresno,CA area, please lend me some tips.. thank you





To get a better picture of roughly how long your process may take, look at the timeline of those who have filed before you in your state and local office.

I'm going 7 months and just had my interview last month. I've seen a VJer approved a day before me at the same local office and within 3 days got updated for oath ceremony and I'm still waiting. There are many possibilities and the most obvious is that a day apart means nothing. There are many other applicants from our state and from our local office who applied before us and, like you, while I'm anxious, it won't make my process go any faster. However, If it's 90 days since being in line for your interview you can give them a call- not 90 days after biometrics.

We also need to remember that Visajourney is not representative of all applicants in our state. California may be backed up right now, but hang on in there. Have you received your yellow letter as yet? Check the timelines of previous months as well. As I said, it will give you a better picture. All the best.

I called the day before yesterday (since I've been waiting over 3 months now) and was told that they are only on October 28th for NYC. Yesterday I got a text message saying I've been scheduled for interview. Still haven't received the letter. Finally things are moving along. I know how frustrating it is, jonoger1984, but soon enough you'll get that message. Good luck.

I'm filing from within the U.S.

 

 

I called a month ago (after 90 days) and I just called again this morning (120 days), and was told I should get my interview within the next FOUR TO FIVE MONTHS.

 

This is turning into the never ending application!

That's total nonsense. Call your congressman. You will see how fast you get it scheduled. They tried to pull that stunt on my sister when she was to get her GC. Her son petitioned for her and his dad and his dad got through within 3 months and she was waiting for a year. They had the audacity to tell her that a year has passed and she now had to pay another filing fee. I told her to call her congressman and she was fearful that USCIS would hold it against her. Finally I convinced her that the law is the law and what she was told was incorrect. How can they charge her a fee because they were behind, and how can they claim that they were behind when her husband was petitioned for after her and received his GC within three months? After calling the congressman, she received her GC within 2 weeks. Your congressman is there to serve you. You will see how fast your interview will be scheduled.


Finally, I'm done with everything I applied for my passport last 7/10 and received it 7/19 a regular passbook that says 4-6 weeks processing. But lucky I got it after just one week. To all who are still waiting good luck and congrats to all who are done with these journey.

I had my interview for naturalization on July 21st (26 Federal Plaza - Manhattan - New York City), and I was recommended for aprroval.  Since then I did not receive any new information.

 

Somebody is in the same situation?

There are persons who filed in March 2014 who have had their interview at Federal Plaza and subsequently had their oath ceremony. New York City has a oath ceremony every Friday.

it's on Nov 6th.

 

Funny thing is i called USCIS on Sep 30 and i received notification right away stating my interview is scheduled and letter will be mailed soon..

 

Anyhow, it's on Nov 6th and i have downloaded couple of citizenship mobile apps to study the questions.

Congratulations kcoy. I'm so happy for you. We are all almost done with this long journey . Wish you all the best. You should recieve your letter in the mail within 6 days to a week . I got my update on the 2 of October and recieve my letter on the 6 although my letter was a little destroyed. I made an appointment for an info pass to get a reprint on the 21 one week before my oath ceremony date . I hope everything goes well and I hope they give me another re print .

Anyways the journey is almost over .


Thank you. I hope I get my letter as fast as you did (4 days) and that included a Sunday??. My sister will be here on vacation and it would be awesome if my oath ceremony happens during that time. That's wishful thinking though. Hope your infopass turns out well.

This is exactly what I was thinking man, I was definitely having a green card interview, and the most ironic thing was that my green card interviews (yes they called me for the ROC too), were so easy. I wasn't even asked any serious questions. They prolly sense when they see a couple whos' real who's not.
 
Anywho, well I responded to the REF already, yesterday right after the interview. but I am sure my case now will definitely be delayed around 2 months. I was planning a trip this xmas/new year. Guess now I also have to think about this. 
 
How long you guys think before i hear anything, given the fact that this is NYC and everything moves very slow around here?

Now I am even getting more angry, I took 3 years of joint filed IRS tax transcripts and she said, tax transcripts are not enough. Now I am looking at instructions it says and/or tax transcripts so it's clearly enough. #######.
man I printed all full pages of tax documents while I was prepping for the RFE response and I don't think I included the transcripts that time. oh fudge

I think it will be before that. You satisfied what was needed and that's what's important. There was another VJer who got an RFE at his interview and returned the same day with the documents. So my fellow New Yorkers my interview experience was not a straightforward one like my previous Green Card interviews, god they were so simple. In and out about 5-10 mins

 

I was asked weird questions;

 

- why don't we have kids?

- who supported me back in 2010 and backwards

- I married once before, long ago, i couldn't remember her birthdate, also clearly stated on a separate sheet that i couldn't remember, was asked why why why....

- I didn't bring many supporting documents for our marriage except for lease and I was asked for them, so she gave me RFE and a 'decision can not be made'.  

 

A little background; I was F1 and was out of status by a mistake during transferring schools. I guess all of this because of that. 

 

Anywho I talked to my manager went home got all documents make copies and took them right back. So I already responded to that RFE.

 

Telling my wife about that kid question she laughs and wowwhose business is that USCIS's or ours... oh well... now we wait prolly 2 months :(

It sounds like you were having GC interview rather than a naturalization interview, smh. How does the kids question affect your naturalization????? If you chose not to have kids or wait why should that matter at this point? You are not trying to prove your marriage! Why is it important for you to remember your ex's birthday?????? Come on now, really? Are supporting documents other than taxes filed together needed when you are naturalizing based on marriage? I didn't naturalize based on that so I don't know. I'm so sorry and truly hope that you get a positive update soon. 


Subaru4me sorry to hear that dude. I remember my interview was intense I had to interview 2 times since it was not clear enough to them about my past issue that was already been taken care of . Anyways after my second interview I got another decision can not be made for the second time then I got approve with a 2 or 3 months wait . Ugh I'm just glad my journey is coming to an end . Just waiting on my oath letter to come in my mail box . Wish you all the luck to get that approval with your citizenship .

What are the questions they usually ask ?
Checking here most questions asked are same it looks like

The ISO can ask you any of the questions. I hope you were studying them. You are given 4 extra chances if you got answers incorrect so don't worry. Also, it's not a test in which you are not allowed to change your answer; you may. For example, if you are asked Why did the colonists fight the British and you incorrectly answered with because of slavery then immediately realize your mistake, you can correct yourself before the next question is asked with any of the answers - because of high taxes, because the British army stayed in their houses, or because there was no self government. The ISO isn't trying to get you. All the best you'll do well. Where are you having your interview?

My experience with the USCIS mis-information line has been poor and we live 3 hours drive one way away from an info-pass. I used the "Did not receive a notice by mail" form and got results. It may have been coincidental, but I do not think so.

Awwww. I hope that it moves along. The wait is horrible.

I tried to put in a request today on the USCIS website for being outside the Chicago N400 processing time of 5 months. My wife's priority date on her NOA is 3/27/14. The website said she was still within normal processing date and a request could not be made. I wonder how they are doing their math?

Why are you doing it online? That is automated. Call USCIS and speak with someone.

I passed my interview today.Yay!

 

Interview experience:

 

My interview was scheduled at 26 Federal Plaza for 1:40pm. I got there about 12:40pm and waited until 1:00pm before going through the checkpoint and checking in. There were about 10 persons waiting for their interview. At 1:40pm a very pleasant ISO called my number and took me to her office for the interview. She asked me to raise my right hand and she swore me in. Afterward she gave me a piece of paper with three questions and asked me to read the first one - Who Can Vote? I read it and then she told me to write Citizens can vote. She then asked me the six questions below:

 

(1) What is the highest court in the United States?

(2) How many amendments does the Constitution have? 

(3) What is the name of the Vice President of the Untied States?

(4) Why did the colonist fight the British?

(5) Who makes federal laws?

(6) What group of people were taken to America and sold as slaves?

 

After the questions, she told me that I passed and asked if I wanted to change my name then went on to asked questions from my application and check off my answers and then she had me sign it. She noted that I was in college and as she put my application in order she asked me about my major which is same as hers was. She proceeded to talk about college and careers and she encouraged me to try for a job with immigration right after my oath ceremony. She was so pleasant. We had a great talk about counseling, degrees, our children and paying for college for about 50 minutes, inclusive of the interview, and then she gave me the paper that stated that I had passed and told me that I should get my oath letter soon; however, in the event of any delays it could take up to two months (protocol) but she was sure that everything would be fine as delays are out of the norm and she is just putting my file in order and them submit the approval.

 

So, I am just waiting for my oath ceremony update and hope that there will be no delays  :joy:. All the best to everyone!

That means that my letter was delivered on Saturday, one day after they mailed it out. Shakira08, congratulations!!! Sounds like it was a very nice experience. I had my interview 3 days ago, and today my online status changed to Oath Ceremony- so letter has been mailed out today!! There was someone that asked me earlier if I remembered the 6 questions, here is what the Officer asked me:

 

-When was the Constitution written?

-What is the age that men have to register for Selective Service?

-What is a State that borders Canada?

-What ocean is on the East coast?

-What does freedom of religion mean?

-How many Senators do we have ?

 

I hope this helps, I found Tampa Office to be very professional and nice people over there, now just waiting for my Oath Ceremony letter in the mail! Good luck everyone :)

So it's been over 90 days since I had my bio appointment and no interview yet. What should I do?

Got my interview letter, my interview will be on October 3rd in Holtsville, Long Island NY.

Hello  kcoyclay1, based on my experience (5 year rule as well)

1. I also sent PP-size photos and also took two extra to interview IO did not ask for them and they used the picture taken during my bio for Certificate.

 

2. I took 4 years of tax transcripts to the interview, again, IO did not ask for them.

 

3. You only need to give one acceptable answer, unless the question asks for more than one.
