QUOTE (mstee @ Jun 17 2009, 03:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello everyone. I need help with a question that may seem lame but I wanted to ask anyway. Next week I will be in Jamaica and I have a funeral to attend. I have a few questions:

1. What do I wear?
2. What happens at a Jamaican funeral?
3. Do they have a "repass" like we do in the states?

Anything else I should know? Please feel free to post.

Thanking you all in advance!

Blessings........

1. Jamaican like to dress so wear a nice outfit (black, purple, white, off-white, grey)
2. They have a church service with the body in the church, after which they take the body in a hearse to the burial plot and another service is held where they "commit" the body in the ground.
3. I don't know what a repass is but we have one funeral and there is no second service later in the afternoon or at a later date. Who didn't make it to the funeral ends up missing the whole thing. The person who passed is taken to the burial site or if they are to be cremated it is done at a later date but there is no second "showing" of the body.

Depending on where the funeral takes place and if the family can afford it, then there may be something to eat afterwards; if it is in the rural area the family usually cook for the mourners. Prior to the funeral the family of the perosn who passed have what is known as "Nine Nights" we call it "Ni-nite" where friends stay until late in the night playing dominoes, drinking white rum and beer or other liquor and eating fried fish, curried goat or chicken. I guess it all depends on what they have to offer.

Kimmy - I never thought I would like dogs so much either. And you know the husband is in disbelief that he has a dog that lives inside. LOL. He loves the dog no doubt about it.

But this morning, I was on Babies R US looking at crib bedding.. blink.gif wacko.gif

KK, Babies R Us doesn't have things for dogs so I guess that is a hint hint hint to huzzie. It's time to start thinking about Jr or the little princess.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies - How did you meet your SO?

I met my hubby almost five years ago when I was on F2 under my mom. We dated for like a year before I decided to go home and get my own F1; knowing it might break us up. We continued talking while I was in Jamaica but I got caught up in some legal issues with the law and they were trying to get me to stay and help prosecute some dude. It was taking too long because of course we slow when it come to the courts and anybody can buy off anybody, so I told them I'll just give my statement but I cannot stay in JA any longer just to help out a case. Anyways, I went to Detroit to do my Associates; still talking to hubby. About 4 months later he asked my dad if we could get married (so cordial lol). I'd visit every other month or so to see him, he came and saw me once in Detroit for my 2008 bday (his first time leaving Delaware).

We kept our relationship up that year, and by Jan 2009, I took the semester off to be with him for his first semester in college. We were fine until we started arguing about when to get married (sounds silly, i know) but he wanted to get married there and then but i wanted to get my degree first. At that time I was just getting into USCIS because of helping my brother but atill had a lot more to learn. I left to Orlando to see my mom- whom I hadnt seen for 3 years. While there me and hubby kept fighting and ended up breaking up because "he wanted to get married now, or we wont get married at all" so i left him. We broke up for like 4-5 months (he kept paying my phone bill though) and tried mending our relationship last August when I FINALLY decided to visit. We been together since; he waited til I finished my degree in Decemeber. I came here two days after classes ended and got married Jan 6th...

What is yours will always be yours. I am happy for you. Remember to treasure your blessing because life is short.

My sweetie past away after 2 years 5 months 3 weeks 3 days and 14 hours of marriage. We had a great love and an excellent marriage of love, respect, and trust. He was a good man and an excellent husband.

Never forget to embrace the good times and affirm each other daily. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Are you getting ready for the interview?

Girl my bag has been packed from April 10th. I have every piece of evidence to prove our relationship. I have his will which was done 2006 leaving me as the beneficiary ( we weren't married as yet so it is in my maiden name). I have our joint taxes for 2008 plus I copied 2007 and 2006 just in case. I have statements from our two joint checking accounts and our joint health insurance and dental insurance. I have out joint lease and our utilities which unfortunately is not joint as they couldnt add me to the cable because i didnt have my SS# and they said it would take one billing cycle to add me and the interview is before the billing cycle. I have our identification (passport) and my I-94 and EAD. For everything we have copies and I have placed the copies in a separate envelop from the original and labeled the them. Our divorce decree from previous marriage are also packed and we are basically waiting for the day. we have heard that persons have to wait a while to be called so we have packed a deck of cards to pass the time.

I am not very relaxed because it is a great big moment for us even though I know that our marriage is as real as it comes. I am not one to be nervous for interviews but the long wait has me bouncing off the walls. When I get back you will be the first one to be told because you were my very first friend on VJ so respect due.

I know that God has a great big plan for me here and I have already enrolled in school. I've applied for a grant and the school is just waiting on my GC in order for me to get it. I have also applied for a job and I need my GC so that I can get a permanent position. I am very excited and I thank you for being there for me. I know that you have my back girl.

USCIS Service Centersuscis online case status dates

NOA1 date is Feb 28Th 2014. I am not saying that date will change. I was thinking the 'last updated' date on the USCIS website would change sometime within this supposed 5 month time frame that they have. This would indicate to me that my case is actually being worked on. If this date doesn't change until they make a decision on my case then I can be sure this system is unreliable.

When you change your addresses, or if you get RFE or approval.. They will update the status with New dates. ( that mean someone touch your case )

You can sign in and enter your phone number so anytime when they change your status, they will Text you.

USCIS Service Centersuscis online case status dates

So I am just curious about the date that is posted on the USCIS website. The way I understood it when I began this process is that date would change whenever anyone opened up your file online. My date has not changed since NOA1 was issued. I do not understand how my case is even being worked on if this date has not changed. Will the date magically change or does this mean my case has not even been touched since NOA1. Finding out how screwed up this system actually is. Frustrating situation but trying to wait patiently.

What's your NOA1 date?

No matter what how many times they touch your case, Noa1 date will remain same.
