It's all about perspective, I suppose.  Thank you for yours, Trooper.  What a nightmare that it seems you have to go through another interview.  Have you tried calling USCIS for more information?  Maybe you can somehow talk to an officer about your interview on January 29, you may not need to sit through another round of tests.

Everyone has their own tolerance level.  Other than me freaking out about certain things about my former marriage being brought up at my naturalization interview, everything went well.  My mom, who submitted her N-400 in January 2014, is still waiting to be fingerprinted.  She's scared that her application has been misplaced and we've reached out to USCIS about this but have been told to wait until March 24 and if we have not heard anything back then to call again.

We have to remember that although the immigration process in the United States seems to be run well, it is run by people who are buried in a ton of paper work.  It is not an excuse to get every one of us 'frustrated' but I guess it's always good to look at the bigger picture. Focus on the positive (passing your tests and waiting for your oath as opposed to the thousands, if not millions of people who would die to be in your shoes right this minute) rather than the negative.  Immigration is tough.  Especially in this country.  We are all testaments to this.

Wishing you luck, Trooper!  Best of luck to the rest of you, too!

You guys gotta slow down and take it easy when you use word : FRUSTRATION, because I don't honestly think that word applies to your current situation. Being in oath scheduling que means that your case has not only being approved, but already finished, just the matter of time before you get scheduled for oath ceremony, which is a one way ticket, nothing can prevent it from happening. I understand if you get approved and don't hear anything after, that's a reason to be frustrated, but being already in que, really? I don't know about that one...

Well, here's my situation. My interview was scheduled on January 29th, received another notice saying that my interview was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, but regardless I went there. My A-file wasn't transferred from NBC, but officer still conducted my interview because my local office was kinda far from my house and I guess they felt bad for me. Nevertheless, officer conducted the test, I passed, went thought my application, went thought my documents and told me that he was gonna request my A-file and I was supposed to get a oath letter in mail. I waited for a month and 2 weeks since my interview and guess what I received instead of oath letter? ANOTHER INTERVIEW NOTICE!!! scheduled in April, so please guys be super careful when you use words like: frustrated, disaster, heartbreaking  etc.. Just be happy with what you got already....

Don't worry about the speeding ticket.  As long as the fine is less than $500 you should be OK.

Congratulations, I have not gotten anything yet.

Hopefully my speeding ticket won't be an issue, the IO told me it shouldn't be but I am a little bit paranoid.

Hi again!

LOL yeah, I was a little confused. I know what you mean now :)  Mine was the same a month ago.  I was so nervous I forgot what my index finger was! HAHA!  But everything turned out great and my oath taking is on March 28!  So excited!  Just helping my mom with her process now.  Weird that it is taking her so long to get fingerprinted.

Thanks! I'm sorry I must have confused you with my previous post. I did my biometrics on December 2013. I was talking about the registration process prior to my interview (but since I was late I had to do it after) wherein they printed me using my L and R index fingers and took my picture. I believe that is part of the interview process.

Wow two months and you haven't heard anything regarding her biometrics? That is kindda long because I remember being scheduled for mine in less than a month. Perhaps, your office is taking longer than mine to process N-400. Hopefully, your mom will get hers scheduled soon.

Congratulations, title2013IL!!!

So, you had your biometrics done on the same day of the interview?  Is that pretty standard in some offices?  I am asking because my mom, who is also applying for naturalization, is still waiting for her biometrics.  It's been two months already.

Hi everyone,

I just want to share my interview experience today at downtown, Chicago. Due to heavy traffic, I got to the USCIS building 30 minutes after my scheduled interview. I was worried that they won't let me in since I was a little late. But, the officer was so nice and told me that it was fine and he let me in. I went straight to the registration area - located on first floor of the building. When I got there I was told that the fingerprint system was down. The guy/officer who works there told me to go straight to my interview (3rd floor) and just come back for my registration afterwards. I went there and was called for my interview less than 15 minutes later. The officer made me raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. She also asked me for my interview letter, driver's license, green card, and my passport. And then she started my interview with the civic test which I all answered correctly. She told me that I passed that part. Below are the questions the officer asked me.

1. What is one promise you make when you become a United States Citizen?

- Give up loyalty to other countries

2. Who is your State Governor?

- Pat Quinn

3. Who was the first president?

- George Washington

4. What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

- Civil Rights movement

5. Where is the Statue of Liberty?

- New York Harbor

6. Name two national U.S. holidays?

- Christmas Day and Labor Day

The officer then test my writing and speaking skills in English, and I passed both. Then asked some basic questions like 'What's your birthday?', What's your address?' etc. The officer then asked me to verify that all info in the form she filled up was correct - I think those information will be shown in my naturalization certificate. However, she told me that she could not approve my application since I haven't registered downstairs. Then she advised me to either come back and register or wait until the system comes back up. I was already there so I decided to go back on 1st floor and learned that one of the two systems is up and running. The line was kindda long so it took me at least 20 minutes to finish this process - registration, fingerprint (L and R index finger), and picture. I then went back upstairs to return/ give my interview letter. I was told that I should get a letter within 2-3 weeks for my oath schedule.

Overall, my interview experience did not take long and it was not hard as I thought it was going to be. Now, I just need to wait for that letter and my journey as permanent resident will come to an end after almost 6 years of living here in the US.

Congrats on your progress, and thanks for the kind thought.

As you may have guessed, I'm the spouse of the (hopefully) soon to be citizen.  Sol is much more calm about such things, I wish I knew how to be.  But after 7 years of being a couple, 4.5 of being married, and 4 of this lovely process, I know you all understand how fed up I am.

Your frustration is understandable, Jon.  I really hope Sol gets her oath appointment soon.  I am waiting myself but I can already foresee that I will be missing my best friend's wedding in May because my IO told me the oath ceremony for me will be in about 2 months.  Blah.

Got the below this morning:

On February 25, 2014, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview.   You will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview.

Waiting on the letter to come in mail.

Good luck!!! You can do it!

Still f-all from Pittsburgh USCIS.  I guess I'm going to send a letter asking what the delay is.  Completely fed up with this nonsense!

I understand it's frustrating.  What does your status say online?  Mine is in the oath scheduling que as well, however, the next paragraph says this:

You can expect to be scheduled for an oath ceremony within 45 days of receiving your recommended approval. Many offices schedule approved applicants for the oath ceremony on the same day as the day of the interview. Please check the local office profile page on our website to determine if the office where you will be interviewed schedules same day oath ceremonies.

I am just wondering if the same applies to you?  That said, I hope you get your oath date soon!

Congrats everyone for reaching the finish line!
Unfortunately for me I can't disappear off visajourney as off yet..
Filing for my husband so il be on here for a while.
Pittsburgh in the meanwhile is just messing with us to schedule our oath ceremony.
Hey Jon and Sol.. My friend went for her interview and was told the next oath ceremony is march 21st.
I hope we get put on this ceremony. Keep the faith alive! We almost there!!
Tadli 77 told you, you were going to be fine. Congrats!

Thank you, babfela! Your messages helped me GREATLY.  I cannot thank you enough for helping me calm down before my interview.  Good luck with the process of your husband's petition!

I have a question regarding the answers, like for the question: What does the judicial branch of the government do?

there are like 4 things they do, if you say only : revises the laws. Will that be ok? Or you have to say the other things?

Because some questions will ask for one or two thing, but in the other ones that doesn't specify a number, should you memorize all?

Thanks in advance

I was asked "What does the judicial branch do?" and my answer was "Helps decide if a law goes against the Constitution" and the IO accepted that answer.  So I think it's safe to say that you only need to memorize ONE, unless otherwise specified (like some questions ask for two).

Congratulations!

I never thought of going to the SS office to have records updated.  I always thought they were naturally informed of the change by the USCIS?  Thank you for the heads up!

Wow! That's it!
Got back from my oath a little while ago. There were 142 people from 44 different countries! It was something else. The court was completely packed, a couple of the guests had to remain standing up. At the end of the ceremony, I was able to register to vote. It feels weird or different to now be able to mark Yes when they ask if you're a US Citizen.

Saturday I may go to the Post Office and apply for a passport. And next week I will take a walk to my closest SS office so that they can update their records. I found that there is one just a few blocks away from my work.

I can't thank this community enough for all the help I've received throughout these years. Honestly, this is hands down the best source for immigration info. THANK YOU!

I think we all have to wait a month or two for something, either it is biometrics, interview or oath taking.  Now that I have finished the interview, I was told that my oath taking may be held in April.  I am hoping April, but when I look at the schedule for naturalization in my area there are none in April... after March the next date is May!  So I think in Kansas / Missouri, the wait for oath taking takes longer.  I have a two to three month wait.  I can't complain but I really would love to be sworn in as an American already! Haha!

I wanted to provide an update.  I filed on November 18, 2013.  Biometrics done on December 18, 2013.  Interview was today (Feb 18, 2014).  Funny how it landed on the 18th day each time!!!

I had my interview today in Kansas City, MO, and after about 15 minutes of answering questions about history and civics, passing the English reading and writing test, and verifying that all the information on my N400 was correct -- I passed!!! I am being recommended for naturalization and my oath taking ceremony is in two months!

The IO did not ask any questions about my divorce from my ex husband, other than verifying the fact that I am indeed a divorcee.  I said yes and she moved on to the next questions.

I feel so relieved and I cannot thank everyone who I have talked to on VisaJourney.com enough.  You have all been a great source of valuable information, strength and hope.

To everyone else still waiting for their naturalization, the finish line is close!!! Keep pushing forward!!!

My mom was sworn in at the same ceremony you went to :) Arrived around 7.30am and was hungry by the time the ceremony started. Should have eaten a lot at breakfast! Still, really happy mom is now a citizen!!!  Thank you for the info about the USPS on Franklin St.  I think we will walk in one of these days soon and apply for mom's passport!

Mom's timeline:

N400 mailed to Dallas 01-19-2014

Check cashed 01-25-2014

Biometrics 05-24-2014

Interview 07-14-2014

Oath 07-23-2014

Arrived for the oath at 8.40am; actually, the time on the letter was 7am. However, I already read on the forum that they do not start the oath till 10am. The oath started exactly around that time and lasted for about 30mins. It was boring and uneventful. After the oath, I went to the Houston passport agency, paid $195, submitted the proofof travel, and was told to come back in 24hrs for pickup.

If you do not want to pay the expedite fee, USPS on 401 Franklin street, Houston, TX do accept walk-in from 9am-1pm, Mon-Fri.

Goodluck to everyone.

I guess there is a slightly longer wait in Houston compared to where I am in Kansas.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 - JANUARY 2014 FILERS

My mom filed in January as well and her receipt date is 1/15/2014 and to this day she is yet to receive her biometrics notice.  So, you're not alone Worried_joel.

On April 2, 2014 I helped my mom draft a letter to USCIS asking about her biometrics notice.  This was following no positive response by phone ("Just wait" is something you get tired hearing over the phone) and a failed e-request sent end of February.

I hope that we hear something soon!

I have not received my Finger Print biometric at all. Received my receipt on the 1/24/2014. Sigh.... they got my money but did not work on my case!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 - JANUARY 2014 FILERS

We are on the same boat. :-(

Hi folks!

I am writing on behalf of my mom, who sent her application back in January.  To this day she is still waiting for her biometrics appointment.  She sent an e-request but nothing.

I feel somewhat relieved that she is not alone in this and that there are those who filed in January STILL WAITING for their biometrics to be done.  We will try to call the USCIS tomorrow morning and we are ready to be on hold for hours.

Do you think this has something to do with the amount of applications USCIS receives from Houston, Texas?  I applied for my naturalization in November and I live in Kansas and the process was easy and quick. I am now an American citizen four months after filing my N400.  I was hoping it would be as quick for my mom.

Any advice will be appreciated!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 - JANUARY 2014 FILERS

hi guys i need some assistance. Any help is appreciated.

Filed N-400 for my wife in 1st Week of January 2014 (based on 3 years).

We received NOA a week later indicating dates 01/08/2014 as priority date and received date.

Check was cashed on 01/13/2014.

Till date we have not received BIO date.. should we call in USCIS or make infopass appointment? Can someone advise.. or should we wait.. We are residing in Long Island, NY and mailed documents to Dallas, TX facility. I am assuming my field office is Long Island Based. Please advise.

I filed an e-request using the USCIS website by the way, too.  I received an email that they will review my mom's case and send us an update by March 24, 2014.  Hopefully, that wakes up my mom's file from beneath the bunch of other files.

Same boat, here Jimmy.  We still have not received the biometrics date for my mom.  It has been close to two months for us.  I was thinking of asking mom to call them once we reach the two month (60 day) mark since the NOA.

It does seem long but it's only been about 5-6 weeks since her NOA. Do you check her status online?

Thank you for your replies!

I do check her status online.  My mom is somewhat clueless about using a computer or getting online so I try to help her as much as I can.  I keep telling her to be patient, but I can understand her concerns.  It has been roughly 6 weeks since her NOA and her status online has not changed from Initial Review.  Her check has been cashed, just wondering if it's a matter of the biometrics notice not arriving and the status online not being updated regularly.  I just went through my own N-400 process without a hitch (thankfully) and I was hoping it would be the same for my mom.

I will continue to wait and perhaps start calling on her behalf to see what is going on.  I have heard of people walking in to get their biometrics done without appointments.... I wonder if my mom can do that?  Also, do you guys think the USCIS will entertain my calling on my mother's behalf?  She speaks excellent English but the problem is she works at a museum as a surveillance security guard on week days and cannot take her phone with her to work. Even then I don't know if she can stay on hold for a long time if she can get to a phone. Can she call on weekends?

I am posting on behalf of my 67-year-old mom, who filed for naturalization in January 2014.  She received a notice of Initial Review by mail, email and text on January 15.  But so far that's it.  She hasn't received any letter for biometrics as of yet and I was wondering if the wait (2 months) for biometrics is this long.  Has anyone experienced this long a wait to have fingerprints taken?  She lives in Houston, TX.  Thank you!

It all depends, in general it takes 6 to 8 weeks and that is if your quick with your payments and sending out packages. Prepare yourself Now getting all your documents ready so you can save time and triple Check everything to make sure you dont get aby RFE. That could back u up a few, days. Hope this helps and good luck on your journey!:-)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWould I need a co sponsor?

I am self employed
Do I write a letter explaining that since I am my own boss
Also I don't have pay stubs I do yearly 1040

2011 and 2012 both income are 30k each
And I'm claiming as single
Would that be enough or would I need a co sponsor?
Thankyou for your help

Yes, I recommend doing a self employement letter signed by you with your own.letterhead and making sure what exactly you do and how much money you made 2012 signed by you and not necesary but looks good to have it notorized. Also, make sure you atrach you 1099 with that, letter. I learnd this after I got a RFE because im also self employed as a hairstylist and I send in my 1099 but not the letter so I had to send it in after. Hope this helps. Good luck!
