K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Visa--My responsibility

Sorry--kind of a depressing story, but that's the reality of the situation right now. Thanks for reading! I still haven't gotten a clear majority answer as to whether I need to contact the embassy or if I can just let the visa die on its own. In any case, I would like to be in good standing with uscis.

you have the answers in the first pages, you need to contact to the embassy ASAP, she is now on her own, she got a visa and if she wants to travel to the US she can do it without your monetary help

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGeneral K1 Guides and Info

Hi everybody:

Im going to start to apply for a K1 visa.I think we have all ready but i have a question about what proves we have met.My phone provider can't give me all my calls and SMS record. Please help me how to attach all information because I have the pictures, but how to get a complete call record and what else do I need to prove we met? I have the tickets, hotel bills...I appreciate ur help.Thank u.

Hi Diana,
you have to provide documentary proof of having met in person in the past two years and an ongoing relationship: copies of all airline boarding passes, train passes, itineraries, hotel receipts, chat, emails, passport stamps, color photo's of you and your fiancee together (make sure you write your names, date, and location on the back of every photo)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

Hey Guys, I hate to sound ignorant here but here I go:

My Girlfriend and I are in the k1 process (NOA1 received) she does not have a tourist visa but her Brother lives in the US (greencard) for the last 12 years. Can she actually come here to see him and me at the same time? he only lives 150 miles from me. I thought if you didn't have a visa you immediately got turned back at customs.

she needs a tourist visa to enter the US, if she decide to apply for a tourist visa it will be denied because now is running the process to apply for K1 visa

OUR NOA2 GOT APPROVED YESTERDAY! IM SO HAPPY I THOUGHT SINCE WE GOT A RFE IT WOULD TAKE A LOT LONGER. SO ONCE I SEND PACKET 3 HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT TO GET AN INTERVIEW DATE, MY LAWYER SAYED I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT A MONTH IS THAT TRUE??

2 or 3 weeks is the average, the best way is calling to the embassy (only Wednesday 2-4pm)or the DOS to find out your interview date, because if you wait for your package 4 (notice of interview date) it can take more than 1 month

Edited to add:

congrats on your approval!

Sorry you guys have to bear with me, when I did this before the kids were under 18 ( one had just turned 16 a month before interbview ) so Want to make sure we go tall the info we need way before and can blow through the NVC.

The the Judicial thingy need to be like apostilled or anyhting? The one he sent looks like it was printed off the inernet ( oops I think it was )

Thanks Peeps.......

it is ok, now the DAS has systematized online to get the "Pasado Judicial". Apostille or notarized is not necessary

Diana,
Thanks for your reply...It was a good thing I was at the interview..I was able to go directly to DAS from the

Embassy and get it taken care of..I can imagine the headache it would have been had I not been there and they asked for this from me.

They are telling us we need to buy a PIN from Banco Colpatria to bring the documents in.. Is this considered a second interview? If so at this point does Maria get the visa approval? The relacionship evidence was sufficent..It was just this DAS certificate they wanted. So I assume this is not considered AP.. Am I correct?

Drew

it is not an AP, the visa is considered on hold until you give them the document request, for that reason is necessary another interview and you have to buy a PIN to get a new interview date, in most cases in this second chance, people get their visa

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionColombia Club Part II

That is crazy, that cant be right. Im not really sure about inner workings of the DAS system, but if you were'nt there how would you get a DAS cert?

would have to send a letter (it must be apostilled) authorizing his fiancee to get the certificate in any DAS office, more time and money

Diana,
I went to my interview yesterday with my fiancee and I was told I need to get a DAS certificate !!!!!

I am a US Citizen and born in USA.. What is this about? They said they needed to see my entry and exits from Colombia for the past 10 years. And to see if I was ever arrested in COLOMBIA.........

What kind of BS is this? So we were put into AP because of ME !!! Is this normal for a US citizen to have to go to DAS ?

sorry to hear that Drew, but your situation is not normal nor new, I've heard a couple times the same situation in Bogota, but is more usual when the petitioner is colombian naturalized American

well I consulted again with the Consulate and for some reason, their response on the translation is yes they are needed. Well that sucks...oh well, I better do it. Two different people at the Consulate said that spanish- english translations are needed. Maybe they are just needed for DCF? Don't know...

I guess, sorry, you are "unique" in this category

thanks for the responses about the translations :) ...anyone want to take on my other question? any experiences with this? "In Colombia, women do not change their names because it is such a hassle..so her last name is still the same as her maiden name legally in Colombia. What should I put as her last names on the forms for the DCF process? Her new last name (my last name) or her maiden name (her legal last name in Colombia)?? She will be using my last name in the US, this is just confusing because she has not changed her last name here in Colombia and probably will not ever. Thanks for the help!"

I have no experience with it, but I would say use her maiden names. In any case, would recommend to call the consulate or consult by email

another quick question: Are translations from spanish to english needed for my wifes birth certificate and our marriage certificate? I called the consular with a couple questions (SOME were answered lol) and they said that translations were needed...but then on the visa journey embassy info part where they talk about the Colombian consulate, it says that translations are not needed. Any advice/ experience with this?

"Informal English translations are required for civil documents written in a foreign language" If you have the documents in Spanish don't need translation

It worked, so when she went to the bank she didn't have any problems. But they told her that she can't pay for the visa until she has packet 4. The appointment letter.

I paid only with the case number, I didn't want to wait for the letter, I received the appointment letter 1 week before the interview. Other people has made it this way too. The bank only need the case number, they have to send an email to the embassy to confirm the interview date. Maybe she can try to pay with the case number or even try with the letter of the package 3, the case number appears also.

Hi to everyone,

Today my fiance went to the Banco Helm and they told her they are not accepting DS-156 anymore. They are only accepting DS-160. The type of visa doesn't matter . But on the U.S site it says that but not for k-1 visa. What do we do?

In what city was it? Maybe could contact to the bank for e-mail and ask if it is true that already do not receive the form 156 for visa K1 (servicioalcliente@grupohelm.com)

I had been waiting for an interview appointment form my CR1 case in Bogota. Is already two weeks but nothing yet. does anybody knows if they are problems at the embassy in bogota?? or how long it takes usually?

you have to wait at least 1 or 2 weeks more, if you want you can call to NVC to ask if they have the interview date already

i am so confused because he already has "certificado del das" is that the same thing as the pasado judicial and police report?

yeah, is the same. this is the information that you can read in the pckt 3:
"POLICE CERTIFICATES: A Colombian police certificate “Certificado Judicial” is required for all applicants who will be 18 years of age when they travel to the U.S. It may be obtained at any DAS office. Police certificates are also required from applicants who have lived in another country for more than 6 months since turning 16 years of age (except for the United States, Mexico, and Venezuela)."

If the visa is approved...How long does it take before you can pick it up at the Domesa office in Bogota. I think the timeframes given are for delivery service and not Pick up at the office timeframes..Did anyone do it this way? I intend to Pick it up...
Thank You

hi Drew, If you decide to pick it up you can do it 2 days later, but first you have to call them it to check that already they have it (they do not call to notify). In the other forum several couples have received the passport 2 or 3 days later in their offices

Thanks Diana,
Are they charging people the extra money at the embassy for the new visa fee? I read someplace that it is called a surcharge fee
And to be prepared to pay it before the interview at the embassy ? Do you know anything about this? Are they starting to get the new visa fee this way? Even if you already paid the $131.00 as we did?

IMO, I don´t think so, because you pay knowing the date of interview and it is not your fault if you paid today and tomorrow they decide to increase the fee, the increase would not be retroactive, but who has the last word I guess .. Uncle Sam :P

I have the I-134 form filled out. But the instructions say I-864 is needed..Am I reading the wrong instructions?

For the I-129F petition which one do I bring to the interview.. The I-134 or I-864 ? Support document..

you are fine with the I-134 form, because you did the I-129F petition. The form I-864 is needed when is applying for CR1/IR, because they skip the AOS step. You will need the I-864 form for the next step Adjustment of Status.

Thanks for the help. My wife had her vaccination done when she was a kid but she don't have any records.

that was my case, for that reason I had to repeat some vaccines (DPT - MMR) because I didn't want to have to pay hundreds of dollars to the embassy doctors, believe me, they like the easy money , many people wait to see these doctors and they have to pay 200 dollars or more on vaccines

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are awaiting for embassy interview on our CR1 process. My wife lived in Bogota and she does not have any vaccination records, Can she goes anywhere to get this done. Does any one know how much this could cost?

Thanks

yes she can. I paid in a private laboratory for 2 vaccines 13 dollars (MMR $10 dollars and DPT $3 dollars). I had varicella so I didn't need this vaccine

so he has to go to bogota two different times. one for the medical exams and the other one for the visa interview??? and which part should i click on the one that says K visa package? i am new at this so i have no clue what is going on. thanks for all your help :)

Hi Bertha,
the pck 3 contains 2 forms:
* ds-2100 is in the link call "Instruction Package for Visa K (PDF)" page 4
* ds-230 part I

is not necessary go to Bogota twice, he can schedule the medical exams 2 or 3 days before the interview,

Hi Bertha, here my experience. In my opinion, it doesn't make any difference, the presence of both is not requested by the embassy. For the interview I was alone, it was easy, the Consul was kind, the questions were simple and then he saw the pics, nothing else.

Then again we only called Maria Gonzalez the other number is NO good... Thanks........

Drew, the phone number (57 1)2151763 is ok, in fact, I just dialed it and they answered me. Perhaps is a policy not schedule an appointment so early

Mark,

Thanks this was the link I was looking for.. But I still would like to know how far in advance we can pay the visa fee and do the medical. Some say within 30 days others say within 3 days. Which answer is correct? I also hear that some do not get packet 4
And they are able to get a medical with the BGT# and appointment date.. We never recieved packet #3 but downloaded it as you suggested to me when we talked last week and that worked fine. They said yesterday packet 4 was sent out on 3-31-10. But I am not holding my breath on that comming to her.She is nervous and needs my help with everything. I do not mind as long as I know what to do.
Drew

the pck 4 is here you can download it, the only difference with the one sent by the embassy is that it not contains the appointment letter, but for you pay the fee if you don't want to wait the package (sometimes never comes) you can provide the case number (BGTxxx) and with this info the bank confirm your appointment with the embassy, for this reason is necessary have the interview date before paying

What are the reasons that you know of why people are put into AP ? BTW my Marriage
is planned for 7-4-10....
Drew

don't panic Drew, the whole AP is a huge mistery to most of us. Anyone can get an AP, it could be because people provide incomplete paperwork, insufficient evidence (tax information, Das certificate, something with the medical test...)

I pray your interview goes very well and your visa is approved. More couples get their visa approved than get placed on AP. Focus on the positive!!!
p.s. Congrats for your future wedding!

In barranquilla they supply the form. I do not know about how they do it in bogota. We brought our ds156 to the bank and the made us use theirs.

sometimes we find s...p employees  . I supplied the form in English, they reviewed it, everything Ok, but I forgot the 2nd copy!!! :crying: so, I asked her if I could make a photocopy, she said no, must be original, I thought, what is the difference? my time is gold, so I went to the next store and I requested a photocopy, in 5 minutes I returned to the bank and she didn't notice the difference!!! just told me: 'you got back soon' :innocent:
