CanadaCalling Cards (to call Canada from the USA)
If you are going to get a cellphone of your own, Verizon is the only company that has a "North America" plan which means NO long distance to Canada or the U.S. -- I can even take my phone up to Canada and pay no roaming. It's pretty awesome - I bought one for Michael to have in Canada and I have one down here. He has unlimited evening/weekend minutes for about 49.99.

Hope this helps :)

CanadaEI denied?
lol, yeah, you know they must bounce checks (cheques) ;) all the time!

Ohhh... I guess my friends I wrote cheques to in the U.S. were crappy customers. :P

CanadaDonating Stuff in Toronto
That's good news :)

Well I got rid of the big items! Both couches, a shelf, my dresser and my (heavy) glass topped desk... the lucky winner was... wait for it... my cube mate at work.

I just randomly asked him today if he would be interested and he was! He has barely any furniture at his home (I didn't know this) and doesn't mind scratched up couches as he is adopting a kitten soon.

Whew!

How about Freecycle.org or Craigslist? If someone really needs a couch they could come get it :)

ETA: although you might not want to play up the torn up couch by a pack of cats, lol

CanadaDonating Stuff in Toronto
Canadian Diabetes Asociation does pickups according to their website, here's their number: 1-800-505-5525

I found it through this site: http://www.charityvi...lage/donate.asp

I have a ton of stuff that I want to donate (furniture, books, clothes, salvageable computer equipment) but I can't seem to find anyone to pick it up! Good Will and Salvation Army no longer do pickups in Toronto.

I don't drive, don't have a license... any ideas on who would pick up, other than you know, throwing it all out with the trash?

No! They were turned back before the visa :) Many people have been turned back earlier, but once they have the visa, there should be no problem.

They were turned back after their visa was issued because of lack of ties?

CanadaMtL Interview - K3
Wow, you are crazy lucky!! I wish Michael live nearby!

Congratulations!!!

We had our K3 interview this morning. A bit surreal because now we're back here at the apartment like nothing had happened. A bit odd.

There are excellent descriptions of the interview process on this site -- so I won't bore with details. After having dropped off the paperwork and required documents (in the frenzy of pulling the correct documents out of our accordian folder, we never gave them our notarized and certified translation of the birth certificate! -- I don't know how that happened. Oh, well, it's still in our file) we paid $100, dropped off the receipt and waited for the interview.

At the interview, the CO joked about how many Quebecers meet Americans in Florida. He asked my husband what I did for a living, I gave him back-up documentation for the I-134. He also asked my husband if he had ever been arrested or had had a problem crossing the border ("no" to both questions). And that was honestly it. We chit-chatted a bit, but that was it. He said we'd have the visa in the mail by Friday or Monday. We were done in about three minutes.

I was so nervous this morning before the interview -- I wish I hadn't wasted so much time and energy being nervous. It was a pleasant experience.

We got our interview because somehow the Consulate was able to "squeeze" us in. They had had an interview cancellation and they telephoned us at the apartment to see if we could be ready in short order to come for the interview. We had emailed them earlier (a truely pathetic email) that we were living about 1 km from the Consulate -- if they had a cancellation, they could send up the "Bat Symbol", smoke signals, a flare -- anything, and we'd come running. (Hey, if it can work for a hair appointment, why not a Visa Interview?) They never responded to that email. However, then they actually called! And so, that was that.

I've been reading on MtL Time to Interview about the AR for that one CR1 Visa. Well, I hope it puts some fears to rest that we had a successful K3 today. There were lots of other K3ers and at least one CR1 -- everyone had smiling faces and hugs all around when they came out of that interview room.

CanadaCR-1 interview on Friday 16th
K3 is different - my understanding is that there is no fee at the interview for the IR/CR1.

Good luck!! :)

We paid $100 US Cash for our K3 Visa the day of the interview . . .

CanadaWe have an interview!!!!!!!!
Thanks everyone!

Our Mao - that is funny! Unfortunately I won't even be able to go with Michael, but I'm sure he'll do fine :)

languageladki - I look forward to reading your review!

Hi Riblet. I am sooooo happy for you. I thought it would happen soon. We had ours on Friday and I'll be posting again tonight to let everyone know how it was. Relatively problem free in general and some of it pretty amusing. Congrats. I know you've been waiting a long time and before you know it, it will be time.

CanadaWe have an interview!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the support everyone!

I got Michael to call this morning and tell them he knew someone else whose case was complete around the same time who already knew when their interview was, and she gave him the date!!

We are both very excited, and it's nice that I'm up here now for a visit. We'll be celebrating tonight for sure!

33 days to go!
ribletFemaleCanada2007-03-16 10:38:00
CanadaGood luck languageladki!
I heard it went okay, we're still waiting for a review!

Have you tried calling the NVC about your interview date? My case was complete 2/20 and we have an interview April 18.

Has anyone heard back from languageladki ?
Did they get through OK ?

Yes, good luck!

CanadaMontreal Interview Date!!!
Why can't Ansy have mine? lol, flames, you cheered me up a bit :)

I just called (11:30pm), and the guy told me they are running a bit behind this month and are still scheduling them, and I should definitely call back Monday or Tuesday. I'm trying not to let the "definitely"get me too excited. I will update tomorrow night if I can resist that long.

You would think they would do the in order, but probably hard to do, as not jst one person does them, probably tossed around the office, used as paper airplanes etc. So if u get susan doing urs and she is a smoker, thus more breaks!! Your fortunate and get Ansy on the job, non smoker, total professional, ur bound to get a quicker interview date!!

CanadaMontreal Interview Date!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm very happy for you :D

I'm kind of confused now though - I just called the NVC and they said it was too soon to tell me, that they are scheduling the interviews now. I really hope that they just haven't gotten to mine though! I'm feeling slightly pessimistic about it, it seems like it's too good to be true if we get an interview next month :(
ribletFemaleCanada2007-03-15 08:43:00
CanadaWish me luck on Monday
GOOD LUCK!!!! Today's the day :D Sorry I couldn't wish you guys luck sooner, I was off celebrating with Michael. But I'm back in Kentucky now :( BUT, it's all okay because we'll all be with our spouses soon!

CanadaInterview for CR-1 last Friday in Montreal.
Oh gosh, I hope I didn't freak you out Amarceau.

The packet just said they needed tax info for the most recent tax year... I would think you would be fine since there is still a month to file taxes. I'm just concerned b/c Michael's interview is the day after the filing deadline, but I'm not planning on actually filing until he gets down here and gets an SSN, it will just be easirer. Hopefully he will be okay.

Good luck tomorrow!!

CanadaInterview for CR-1 last Friday in Montreal.
Thanks for the review!!

I'm nervous for Michael going by himself!

Hopefully the document thing won't be an issue - we submitted pretty much everything to the NVC. I figure it will just be the medical exam and the W-2's for 2006.

Congrats again, let us know when the passport arrives in the mail :)

Congrats !! WTG !!

I'm in Montreal right now, my interview is tomorrow morning at 8:30am.

Question: Are there any fees to be paid at the embassy when you go for the interview ? I'm going for the CR1 like you.

CanadaInterview a day after my bday!
Congrats!! Michael's interview is two days after my birthday, so I'm definitely thinking a green card for him would be the perfect present!

what better gift could you ask for........very good news .......Congrats!!!!!!!
:D

ribletFemaleCanada2007-03-19 21:29:00
CanadaTrying to get things done now
I agree that it would probably be smart to get going on the fingerprints now.

As for the tax info - only one year is required, and that's what we sent in. As long as the income for that year is good I wouldn't send anything extra. Also, we just sent a photocopied return and that was fine too. Don't make it harder on you then it has to be :)

Good luck with everything!

ETA: that's funny, my husband lives in Brampton!

Canadaflight to montreal
I'm a big fan of kayak.com -- it's kind of like google just for travel sites, and it comes up with the best prices.

I just picked a couple of days in late May, and westjet was about $488.

It might help if you play around with the days too, alot of the interviews are mid-week and that can be a lot cheaper.

Good luck :)

My understanding is that in your situation, you need to get an extra copy of the entire report and that's all you need for the CR1 interview.

CanadaIMMUNIZATION RECORDS
My husband just went to a walk-in clinic last night, they gave him the MMR and TD, he was done in less than 1/2 hour and it was free :) They gave him an immunization record on the spot.

We were going to get the titres done, but he waited so long, and I've heard of people not even having their immunity show up on the titre, so it was easier to just go and get it done in one shot.

CanadaMy Interview at Montreal on Friday, Apr 13th
Our Mao,

Thank you SO SO much for this review!! There aren't too many CR1 reviews for Montreal, this is just what my husband needs to read tomorrow.

I can not even believe that Michael's interview is in less than 36 hours! It's surreal, after waiting so long.

I'm really glad that in the end everything went well :) Congrats!!!!

CanadaGood Luck Michael
Thanks everyone!!! Michael just called, and he has safely arrived in Montreal. I'm not too nervous, which is shocking... but there isn't much I can do at this point :) Let's all keep our fingers crossed, but I think it'll be okay :)

I will be sure to update as soon as I hear anything!

CanadaRain rain go away
Good luck!! 10% is pretty good odds :) I know I worried about the weather - our wedding was outside. You'll have an amazing day no matter what!

One thing that I did - not weather related - was to take a second in the ceremony to look out at everyone who is there for you, it's a great feeling, and resulted in one of my favorite photos :)

Here's hoping you have a beautiful day!!
ribletFemaleCanada2007-04-18 14:09:00
CanadaAPPROVED IN MONTREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm leaving on Friday to pick him up... if the visa arrives in the mail on Friday, we will leave on Sunday... if it arrives on Monday, we will leave on Monday. I'm hoping it comes by Monday at the latest, otherwise I may have to bring down the stuff and have him fly down a day or two later.

We went against the consensus of not preparing to leave until you are sure you are approved, his last day of work was last Friday, so he is ready to go!!

It's kind of surreal at this point, we bought a house this week, we're trying to sell our current house, Michael has been approved, and my last day of classes probably EVER is tomorrow! Craziness, but in a good way :)
ribletFemaleCanada2007-04-18 14:15:00
CanadaAPPROVED IN MONTREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael was approved this morning!! He said it was very easy! He had a nice male consular officer, and not really any issues :)

I will try to get a review out of him later, but he basically just treated the security downstairs like he would a border guard - speak when spoken to, and he was fine (I warned him to stay seated in his chair!)

Thanks for all the support everyone! Good luck Cutienpurg!
