National Visa Center (Dept of State)No record of my case number?
My understanding is that I129F processing is never available in the automated voice system at NVC, you must either speak to an operator or email them. But since it was apparently already sent, it may be best to try to contact London directly.

Good luck!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Isnt't this weird?
There seems to be a lag between when things happen at the NVC and when the automated phone system actually updates. Try to give it another day - and don't worry too much yet :)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Expired DS-3032 link in James's Shortcuts
The OMB expiration has nothing to do with the continued validity of the form.

And emailing is a faster option. This has been discussed recently in the I130 forum in a thread started by RIMASH I believe.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC question
beameup,

only I130 petitions are entered into the automated system, so that will not work for someone is pursuing a K1.

Best to call the automated phone line and go through the menu.
At about the 5th step you will be asked to confirm the first three letters.
Then you will have to enter the numbers.
Be prepared to write down the NVC Case Number when it is given.
It will begin with three letters indicating which Embassy will handle, it followed by 10 numbers.
NVC Phone#: (603) 334-0700
Next time you call them you will enter the NVC Case # for recorded info.

Hey guys

I called the NVC today and they recieved my case today... do I recieve a new case number and is there a way to track it online, like i did with the USCIS website?

Thanks!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)what is IR1 & CR1?
I'm not sure exactly, but I believe the CR1 stands for Conditional Residency when you enter on a CR1 you get a 2 year green card and must apply to remove the conditions, with the IR1 you get a 10 year green card. Which one you get depends on how long you've been married when you enter the U.S.

what is the full form....i am confused about the abbreviations.

thanks

I cropped the image before pasting it into the word document to get rid of most of the white space around it, then I pasted & resized it. (I had to crop it anyway to get rid of the text underneath it).

National Visa Center (Dept of State)I'm getting nowhere with NVC
I would try to contact them, email usually takes 2 or 3 days for a response... but it can be very difficult to get through on the phone. I've had my best luck around 1:30 to 2:00 EST.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)DS-230 forms Date of accomplishement
I personally would not want to send something to the NVC that was more than a couple of weeks out of date, just because I would worry that they would wonder what had happened in the meantime, but I've never encountered this, so it's just my opinion.

You could probably wait until your case actually gets to the NVC, then do it with plenty of time. Please fill in your timeline to share with the other members :)

Good luck :)

Hi,
I was wondering if I, as the agent, could sign the ds230 on behalf of the beneficiary? Thanks!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC approved but has my fiances wrong birthdate
I've heard of errors like this, they don't usually seem to cause delay... just email the consulate and confirm the correct info.

Good luck!

I called NVC they cleared my case, and when they ask me for my fiances birthday, they say it is not the
same as they have in the computer, they ask for my info, and tell me that my case has been cleared and forwarded
to CDJ, When I filled out the forms I double checked everything was right, I sent birth certificates, and how is it possible
for them to have my fiance birthday wrong???? the case is now at CDJ, what is going to happen??? are they going to deny the visa, because of this, is it going to delay the process?? is it going to be longer for us to be together????

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Questions on DS-230
lol, that's funny... but it's very sweet that he's so involved. A lot of the time only one of the spouses is really involved... my husband just does what I tell him to do :) He is excited though, and usually does it in a timely manner.

Good luck with the rest of the process!

We had to fill in almost all the dates by hand... the form was acting very odd. It didn't cause us any problems :)

ooh okay :)
He said he'll send me some now so that I can look at them and then make sure he filled htem in right and then he'll send me some fresh ones later :P

I think these forms are burning a whole in his pocket. I should ask him if he wants to go ahead and fill out his naturalization paperwork now, or if he thinks he can wait a few years ;)

For the military experience, while there is only one line, it does request "Dates" so I would make sure to put in starting and ending date.

Okay yea but when you fill it in via computer, it only lets you enter one date. So do we have to fill in by hand?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Questions on DS-230
There is a sample under the Example Forms link... here is the direct link: http://www.visajourn...Form-DS-230.pdf

My husband listed his high school and college.

For the military experience, while there is only one line, it does request "Dates" so I would make sure to put in starting and ending date.

For the paper, I've heard of people using the European size without any problems, apparently it's not a huge difference... but he could trim the paper to size if you were really concerned.

Finally, I would NOT recommend preparing the DS230 now and sending it to you. It will most likely be months old by the time you need it, and while this may or may not cause problems, I personally would not do this.

Why doesn't he fill one out now for practice, to make sure he has all the information updated, and then he can do a final copy of it and send it to you once your petition actually arrives at the NVC. From the time your case arrives at the NVC it should be at the very least 3 or 4 weeks before you would need to submit the DS230.

Good luck :)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Choice of Agent Email
I really didn't want to lie and say it was lost or something, so I just had my husband use the following, and we received confirmation by email 2 days later! I thought people might want to know that variations on the email language suggested in the Timesavers thread appear to work, at least in this case. :)

Dear Sir or Madam:

My name is Michael xx, my visa case number is MTLxxxx.

I do not have my DS-3032 and I would like to appoint my wife as my Agent of choice to receive all correspondence from NVC.

Her name and address are:

xxx

PH: xxx
email: s

All mail from the U.S. Department of State concerning my immigration visa application should be send to the address above. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely yours,

National Visa Center (Dept of State)CR-1 "Agent" Advice Needed For Friend....
I agree that the USC is generally the best choice for agent.

The beneficiary can prepare and sign documents ahead of time and send them to the USC to be ready to mail out when the NVC wants them, it will save a lot of time.

If your friend is not familiar with the shortcuts, I recommend reviewing James' Shortcuts in the pinned NVC Timesavers thread at the top of this forum, and also the NVC Flowchart in the guides.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How many of you had to send in "original" documents to the NVC?
To summarize:

NVC does not really process the I129F, maybe security checks, then forwarded - no documents are sent to NVC for I129F.

NVC does some processing of the I130 - some documents are sent to NVC for the I130, different documents depending on the beneficiary's country.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How many of you had to send in "original" documents to the NVC?
I'm not 100% sure they won't accept them, but when they specifically say "from the issuing entity" I'm almost positive that means that they won't accept just a notarized photocopy.

I'm attaching the instructions that come along with the DS-230, hopefully that will help you out.

ETA: now I'm thinking that's what you were reading :) but I still think what I said was right.

and i was reading that pdf file. It does state that " Please obtain the original documents or certified copies from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity). " I know for a fact that Turkish embassies will give you certified copies and translations of these documnets with an official seal on them. Are you sure those won't bet accepted?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How many of you had to send in "original" documents to the NVC?
I just used Express Mail through USPS, it's guaranteed overnight delivery and you can track it, I believe it was $14.40.

ETA: It sounds like your lawyer was verging on malpractice, that is really unacceptable that someone who is supposed to be an immigration attorney would not know that.

To the NVC.

Do you have to send the originals to NVC or to Embassy in Ankara?

What she said.

The fortunate thing for you is, (as happened with "Riblet"), is that you have time ahead to get duplicates if you wish. By the time my wife and I got the RFE from the NVC, she was already back in Turkey. (One reason we were unhappy with the lawyer we hired.......my wife actually visited me for one month in December, she not only could have brought her birth certificate then, but she could have been told about the original police certficate being needed as well, and could have taken care of the police certificate issue in November , when she was in Istanbul, and then brought all that with her when she visited me in December.) Instead, the lawyer had no idea that originals were needed, and so subsequently, when we got the RFE, my wife and I are scrambling to get everything together and sent as soon as possible. When we saw the lawyer in January, she told us we didn't need originals, and that the NVC would accept copies. She told us that my wife would show originals at the time of interview in Ankara. So, the lawyer was misinformed...and mistaken.

Had we known ahead of time, it would have been nice to get duplicates...to be safe. But, instead, to save time, my wife just sent her only originals all the way from Turkey. The was risky.....especially considering my wife could have brought everything in person, and we could've avoided that risk.

I would like to know, if someone could answer, ....................when you mail these types of things to the NVC, what is that safest(and quickest way). Just FED EX it?

It is a requirement for the following countries, I had to send originals, luckily we knew it was coming so we were able to get duplicates of everything.

Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa

When our case was at the NVC they did not require the tax info release form, they did not ask for it and we did not send it.

I think it may have to do with the new structure of the I864 form.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTravel Restrictions when I-130 is pending / Toronto DCF

I wouldn't recommend travelling to the U.S. Personally, I wasn't allowed and had to sign a withdrawl untill I have my paperwork finished. I'm amazed when I hear people getting through easily. I think it depends on your luck.

If you bring enough proof your returning maybe it would work.

I am about to be USC (interview in 2 days). I have already filed a I130 for my husband who is in Canada. He has come to visit twice subsequently, and came with no trouble both times. He brought a statement from his employer that he was required to be back on a certain date. If you give them reason to believe that you don't plan to stay, it's been successful for us. But no guarantee of course!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAdvice needed for K3 application US/Canada

Hello everybody!

I'm new.

I am a US citizen.

I just arived in Canada from the US The border crossing was not difficult.

I plan to live in Canada until I can get my wife into the U.S.

This site does not seem to have a sample cover letter for the I-130 or an organized listing of what all documents are needed when I apply. Did I overlook something? Can anybody help me out?

Thanks,
Ernie

When you first look at the I-130 or K-3 forums, look at the very first post at the top that has been "pinned". Those posts contain an overview.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-235A Question
thanks so much for the responses!

I feel like this is a silly question, but bear with me please :)

I will be a citizen (barring disaster) on September 22. That day I plan on mailing out the I-129F application for my husband. I've seen posts that the G-235A isn't a big deal -- but still ... I don't want to omit the number or write none if I'm still considered as having the number.

Thanks for any input - I know there are others out there who have filed k-3 after becoming citizens.

thanks again,
sandy.

I am a naturalized US citizen and I have the same A number that I had in my green card. So yes, you will like to have the A number on your naturalizatino certificate too. In that case, you will put your A number on G-325A and on I-130+I-129F.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-235A Question
My sister naturalized last year, and she got her certificate on the day of the ceremony. So I'm hoping for the same - otherwise I will clearly have to wait until I get it.

Hm. Well I don't know the answer about the number, but I do believe you have to submit a copy of your naturalization certificiate (or whatever the heck it is they give you) to prove citizenship. Do they give it to you that day or do you have to wait for it to arrive - like a person waits on the greencard?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresStill can not track K3 online ,why?
also, the online system is VERY unreliable. I've heard of many many people approved on a variety of applications that their status never updated. My citizenship was approved last week, but the system hasn't updated since my interview letter was mailed out.

Hi Yuan, don't worry about not being able to track your petition online. It takes a while to be able to track the 129 form online after you get your NOA1. After we got an approval it took well over 3 weeks to be able to track it. Other fellow K3'rs took a month or so to be able to track the information online. Your lawyer was correct USCIS takes its time to enter your information into the system. All you can do is keep checking every day. But dont worry in a few weeks you should be able to see your progress online. Best wishes on your journy! Congratulations on your 130 approval!
