CanadaJob Interview

Best of luck to you! I know how nerve wrecking the whole thing is, I just finally got an offer today after almost a year of looking. Just have to wait on the background check to come through for the whole thing to be finalized. Thanks for the tip about the Canadian credit check Kathryn, thats a great idea!

I'm crossing my fingers for you Coralie and Inky!

Grats!! I think we all seem to be looking forever.... 3 months of loooking

Are the children Us citizens? did you apply for visas for them? I am a tad confused. IF you did file i-130's for them (cr-2) then yes they would need to attend. please let us know more information so we can answer your question in more detail.

CanadaToronto Medical Today.

Immunization record question:

So I have my medical on Tuesday (15th) and I have all my immunizations up to date. I have all the little booklets that you receive from when you were younger with the recorded dates of the immunizations. Is this sufficient evidence of immunizations? Do I need a letter from the public health department?

Yes that will work. That is all I had for my son and I had no problems.

CanadaToronto Medical Today.

Just scroll/glance down under the fees and it says "All fees are in Canadian dollars".
Canadian and US dollars are almost at par at the moment. It's probably a good time to do some current exchange.

On a somewhat related topic...Just tried to call and book a medical appointment in Toronto and I got the answer machine. Does anyone have an idea how long it takes for someone to get back to you?

24 hours or so..

They have a little play area for kids right next to the desk where you come up on the elevator and the girl has the DHL envalopes. Nice little are to keep the kids busy has some books and toys and tv with cartoons playing.

What? how did I miss this area? Lol Oh well glad I never have to do it again but sad that this area was unseen to me. Maybe its new.

CanadaA joint bank account.

yep just so she can take money ot when she needs it.

My husband was added to my cibc account with just his Drivers license and Passport. Call the banks and explain what you are looking for. That is what I did in Canada and the states.

CanadaPassport Emergency
You need your passport so they Can issue your visa into it. If you do not have your passport by the interview date then you will most likely have to send your passport into Montreal when receive it. This may take some time as Montreal is backlogged and does not tend to open there mail quickly.
CanadiandggalFemaleCanada2011-02-14 16:56:00
CanadaMontreal didn't give me a waybill number

Like what was said earlier, if you are put in AP you will be waiting 2-3 months. It sounds like you are in AP. It doesnt matter if they told you that you were approved you will still be in extended processing untill they are finished doing various checks. If you go over to the section for people from your country, the same thing happens to pretty much all of them. They get approved but then get put into AP right after and end up waiting 2-3 months.

he interviewed in Montreal so Yes There should be tons of people around here that have gone through ap. Although At the moment I cannot think of anyone

Unfortunately There is no set time line, they will get around to it at some point but with the backlog you never know. Just cross your fingers its only 2--3 months.
Hang in there

CanadaGet a letter from your doctor!!! No matter how small the issue!!!
I got good health notes from my doctor for our medicals. I am sorry that you are having trouble, however they say on there site..... We recommend that you bring a brief readable note or letter from your doctor detailing your medical or psychiatric problem(s), current treatment and long-term prognosis. The Panel Physician needs to know about your past and current medical problems and what the likelihood is that you will require further treatment in the future. It is better to bring more information than you think is required. .

I am sure you will be fine and you will be approved at the interview. Again sorry that you got the round about when you seemed quite prepared.

My visa was issued today! It turns out that I was put in AP by mistake! I heard from the consulate today. I'll write details in a separate post when I get the chance.

Awesome News!! Get your butt to the USA now lol :)
CanadiandggalFemaleCanada2011-02-08 03:51:00
CanadaAP

no i didnt get a welcome letter..but the consular told me it might take 4 to 8 weeks...he gave me a white letter saying that i m in AP...he wanted to keep my passport but i kept it with me...n said whn its done they will call u and ask you to send your passport..

Did he give you a reason for AP? Although I think having a passport is a great thing, I would not have taken my home with me.
In my opinion that is going to make the wait even longer as They do not process mail very quickly, you may be in AP for say a 6
weeks but then it could take them another 6 weeks to find your package and stamp/return your passport. Again just my opinion as
MTL really is slow at times.

I am sure you have your reasoning for keeping your passport and I am not bashing you at all :)
CanadiandggalFemaleCanada2011-02-05 10:45:00
CanadaAP

I'm in the same situation. I feel like I'm dying. I don't understand it at all. Did they give you a "Welcome to the USA" letter? I got one, and the official told me I'd get my visa "in about a week." Now it's been over two weeks and I'm in AP. Why? I have no idea.

When was your interview? Mine was January 19.

C.

He just had his interview on the first of Feb. Im sure you will get your passport and visa very soon Mtlgato :) hang in there

OP>IT could take a week, a month or even a few months , just hang in there and keep calling dos and checking the DHL site.

last year it took approximately 6 weeks from date of sending in the paperwork to direct deposit. At around 4 weeks the ITIN came in the mail.

CanadaGetting license in USA, "direct transfer" - Very helpful tips I learned the hard way
MD is really easy too. Just bring in all your i551 or greencard, old license, 2 pieces of id and "tell them that it is considered a Out of state transfer".

CanadaCredit Rating: Canada to the US

The most irritating part is that you'll find 20 people who have 20 different experiences. Some were easily added to the spouse's existing CC - for us at Wachovia they said we had to reapply for a brand new joint card and they flat out denied us because I had no credit history (although my husband's is quite good). Some places have actually been able to use the Cdn spouse's Cdn credit history.

It seems to depend on the banking institution, and the person you're dealing with - along with luck. I would try the most obvious ones like being added to the spouse's card first and if that doesn;t work out then keep on going down the line and if you end up like me and have to get a secured card, so be it.

I do not mind starting out again as I did not have good Canadian credit although I did not have really bad credit either.
CanadiandggalFemaleCanada2011-01-19 13:55:00
CanadaCredit Rating: Canada to the US

Hi Udella & Wiz: I was added onto my husband's AmEx and Visa cards without any problem. But I bet they're not contributing to my credit rating right now, but we'll see (I tried applying for a credit card to see what happens). Maybe I'll get a retail credit card or two in the meantime.

I didn't know that about the mortgage stuff. That's also good to know. I think it's about time to re-negotiate the mortgage anyways in several months, so maybe I can work on building my credit rating in the meantime.

Anyone with any specific links please let me know thanks!

I added myself to my husbands credit card with capital one when I got my ssn.. It is on my credit report and If you apply via there website you see this :
With regard to financial responsibilities, you (and the secondary cardholder, if applicable) are responsible for any charges placed on the account by an authorized user. The authorized user does not have financial responsibility for the account. Even though the authorized user does not have financial responsibility for the account, credit data is still reported to the credit bureaus on the authorized user (except on Small Business accounts).

I checked via freecreditreport.com and I now have a few months worth of Good reporting :)

CanadaQuestion about going back/forth after visa issued
I am not sure about the whole staying in Canada more then the states but I do know that Sara Jane continued to work in Canada for a bit. She did the daily drive back and forth to my knowledge so at least it is possible to still maintain work in Canada.

CanadaDHL

We have interview in last week of March. Our interview date is set by NVC and I am going for DHL registration online http://usvisa-info.c...er_information. Just wondering, do we need to register every beneficiary or one registration for all the family members?

You just need to register Yourself and then It will say add a family member at the bottom.

I did end up registering My son and one for myself as well and it still worked out. Only because I didn't realize you could do it any other way :)

Yeah no i-94 for spousal visas, they will probably not ask you much of anything.
When we drove through Ny They just asked me if the address was correct for the address to send my greencard.
CanadiandggalFemaleCanada2011-03-03 13:24:00
Canadahow long to receive passport
Unfortunately Montreal opens their mail at a slow wait and I would assume that your passport is probably sitting in the mail room collect dust at this point. That is if DOS says that they have yet to receive your passport or have yet to print the visa. I truely hope that this is not true and that it has already been printed. In the past it has taken anywhere from weeks to months for them to return a passport that was sent in after the interview.
I wish you luck... keep calling dos.

CanadaMontreal..of course!

I got a call Tuesday Feb 8 ,in the morning from the Montreal Consulate..they had just received our file upstairs..well I figure upstairs, where ever. They said the expedite was granted and that I needed to get my medical ASAP. So I got my medical taken care of Wednesday morning in Toronto and we're going to pick up my Medical folder on the way up to Montreal this coming monday. Sophia who called was very nice and patient with me as I was friggin shocked and stumbled over my words on the phone. Interview date set for Wednesday Feb 16 at 9 am! Super quick..almost too quick. But I believe we'll be ready. She told me that we just needed to bring a few originals that weren't requested, divorce decrees, and my criminal check, which I had thought we sent in..but just a copy, my bad. All the other usual stuff off the sheet, domicile, photos, phone logs, emails and facebook screen shots. Copy of bills and a few other things as well as the documentation regarding our Expedite. I pray it goes well, I'm soo nervous that I'm sick.

I hope it all works out positively as I want and need to get back home. I'll let you guys know what happens when I get back in about a week.

Thats awesome. Let me know what happens :) sending great vibes your way,.

Yup you can travel the moment you get it. I have know a few people who picked up there visas from dhl and then left that same day. I got mine 5 days before I left but it was a planned thing. If My husband had not made arrangements for our travels, I would have drove the moment it was in my hand. lol

CanadaPOE Tomorrow

Wow, 4-6 months for her Greencard? Can she work before then? Are her ITIN and the stamp in her passport enough for her to get a job?

Also, since she's flying out of Halifax, are they going to do the POE there? They do the customs part there...

Thats not what I was told when i crossed lol I was told up to 12 weeks If it went past 12 weeks then to call. I believe I had mine within 6 weeks and I dont think i have seen many people wait 3-6 months for a green card. She can work once she has her SSN.

Thanks CanadianGal..I'm just suprised because other's that got approved in january got their their interview dates within 7 weeks of NVC completion. I haven't even gotten an email yet that our case has been completed. My wife made the call Monday and they said it was done and be in Montreal in 2 days. I did the sign in and it failed..so..i dunno what to expect next.

Shame us CR1 folks can't use the self scheduling service.

I would give nvc a call and tell them you havent received your case complete email... I called and they told me exactly when
they sent it out...I got it a few hours after that.
