CanadaToday's the Day!

My husband received a 221g and was informed his case needed administrative processing.

They did not tell him why. They did not indicate if anything was missing. They did not indicate any particular document was needed. They let him keep his passport and told him they would ask for it back when they needed it.

What does this mean for us? I don't understand.

Seems like they are doing father processing in his case, odd that they didnt tell him why or that anything was needed. If anything is needed they will send him a letter requesting it. I would call dos often

CanadaPregnancy & Benefits in the US vs. Canada?

It could well be depending on your insurance!

Apparently my boss's bill - she is covered 90% after a $8,000 (I believe) deductible - for a cesarean birth and 5-day hospital stay was around $20,000.

I have a deductible of $4,000 after which I am covered 100%. So I'm expecting my total expenses (not given birth yet) to be $4,000.

Our insurance changes as of Jan and then we will pay out of pocket 3000 then the rest is covered at 100 percent so I know the next one will be roughly the same amount.
As for medically needed csections, they are usually covered at the same amount (80 percent or which ever percent your insurance covers) however it does cost more. I believe my OB had said its usually around 22,000 without insurance.

CanadaPregnancy & Benefits in the US vs. Canada?

Not to hijack this thread (sorry OP), but after pregnancy and child birth how much debt are most of you left with (if you don't mind me asking)?

we have a 600 deductible per person then 80 percent was covered after the initial 600. I owe just over 3500.00 to varoius people (ob,epidural dude, hospital, pediatrician.
However it would have been over 10,000 if i didn't have insurance

CanadaPregnancy & Benefits in the US vs. Canada?

My friend just had a baby a copule weeks ago. She had to quit her job during pregnancy as the stress almost caused her to have a couple of miscarriages. she did not get any sort of benefits, and she ended up losing the job completely. Now the birth was very hard and she went in to labour a few times during the last two months, which the hospital mananged to stall with some drugs or something. Shef inally gave birth 100% naturally no c-section etc, to a beautiful 9lb baby boy. But the bills she got nailed with were outrageous.

she was refused for health insurance, and she tried to get some sort of family aid, was refused at first for making too much money, now she got refused again. She has had miscarriages in the past , and her medical bills from the pregnancy make me want to cry. they area good people, that just wanted a baby and tried for many years. now they are struggling to even pay rent. and she is unable to go back to work for a while as she lost alot of blood and is very weak according to her doctor who wont even let her drive a car atm.

Its a shame that the government does not value families as much as they say they do. :(

That is just horrible. Please pass on my T&P for her :)
I know as A one income family Our hospital bills are frigging outrageous and it truly makes me miss Canada, We have health insurance and it still cost thousands of dollars. I can tell you that it will take us a few years just to pay off this child and we would love to have a third by then. Its hard to have children in the United states and I am unsure how most people do it

For my husband it he was basically told he could take up to 12 weeks UNPAID leave, so He used 10 days vacation time then went back to work. Im sure it depends on the state.

CanadaInternet phone services

We use skype for free, from home, or from iPhone.

And on minor occasion, use their paid phone service just for a minute or two when there is not a wifi connection available on one end or another, but wifi is so prevalent these days.

Then, use chikka.com for cheap, cheap int'l texting.

Hey, if it's free, it's for me!

:star:

we have magicjack as well. We have used it for the past two years and before that we used vonage.

CanadaUSC has misdemeanor convictions

So get this.
USCIS doesn't care I have a conviction.

The Department of State doesn't care I have a conviction, they gave me a passport AND a NEXUS card.

The State Board of Pharmacy doesn't care, they will allow me to register as a pharmacy technician in my state.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board doesn't care, they will let me take my certification exam.

You know who does care?
My college. Because I have a conviction, I can not do clinical rotations in a hospital, per their guidelines. Therefore, I'll never graduate.

Anyway to get it off your record? like a pardon?

CanadaIndividual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

Finally someone else who had to use an ITIN... care to share your situation and experience?

Let me explain lol

As I said Our situation was different than yours as you came on a K1 and are fully here.

I got My ITIN Number In 2010 as My husband wanted to be able to file taxes together. I was not living here yet (I was still Living In Canada) and we had not even started the process of Immigration. However I was obviously Ineligible for a SSN although I still tried, and was then instructed to get the ITIN if we did want to file together. What we did was complete his tax forms and the W-7 then we took them over to the local IRS tax center and they photocopied my Identification(Instead of having to get it all notarized). They told us that it usual added a few weeks to the tax timeline and that we should hear something within 4-6 weeks. They sent the paperwork to Texas. I received My ITIN About 3 weeks later and his taxes were completed around the 5th week.

When I moved here October 2011, I got my ssn automatically sent to me and arrived within 3 days after i crossed the border. I guess It flagged that I was now eligible.

I hope that helps.

My situation was a bit different but thats the way we got my itin

CanadaPOE all done!

Entered the United States on December 28th :) via the 1000 islands bridge.
Both of the officers we encountered were very nice and everyone knew what they were doing. We weren't in the office for more than 25 minutes. I was not importing a vehicle so I'm sure that cut down the processing time but otherwise it went very quickly.

The officer was friendly and informed on the entire process. We drove up to the booth and stated I was coming in on a K1 visa and the officer at the booth took our passports and my sealed envelope and took them inside for us. We went inside and sat down and a couple minutes later were called up and the officers asked me where I was moving to. That was about the only serious questions we were asked. The officer then carried on a casual conversation with us and told us everything was good to go he just had to type everything up.

We took a seat and about 5 minutes later he called us up again and he stapled the I94 into my passport told us the deadline we had to be married by and was ready to send us on our way. But before he did he gave us some advice which was super helpful. He talked to us about work authorization and parole. He told us where we would be filing with CIS (which is nice for us because the office is in the city we live in :D). Before we left he asked us if we had any other questions and we didn't so we thanked him and left.

Overall a great experience and I would recommend this Port of Entry to anyone :) YAY FOR GETTING MARRIED SOON :)

Congrats!!
We Poed last year via Cornwell but we moved all my stuff the next day via thousand islands. Love that POE

Canadaanyone else think this is stupid?

I really think it's stupid that they only do immigrant visa interview's in montreal. I just sent them an email trying to get an alternative this is what i got in response The only processing location for immigrant visas in (Canada) is the US Embassy/Consulate General in (Montreal). Therefore, the NVC is unable to honor your request to change the processing location. after pouring my heart about how our one year old son does not sit still how is he going to sit for 6 hours on a plane and how I'm trying to get this done soon bc my husband will be deploying to a ship again for 3 months soon. I don't see myself getting much sleep before the interview either bc of our son so I'm afraid that i will be denied since I'll be so sleep deprived that i I'll mess something up i don't have someone to look after our i'm pretty alone here my family doesn't support us at all i'm hoping i can get someone to look after him i just want to go home i miss my husband and i miss seeing our son with his dad. it's beeen over 6 months since we've all seen each other

Not going to pry but why does your one year old have to accompany you? Do you not have any family or friends that could babysit for a day or two? I know it was hard with a 4 year old so I can completely feel your pain. YES IT IS STUPID :)

I know it's pretty insane. Although if you are from Oshawa Ontario like my fiancee they would tell you that GM was born there. So blame Canada! hehe

I'm not about to tell Jenni that she can't bring her truck that she loves especially after selling her house and leaving her family and friends just to be with me. No I think I'll just fork out the money and figure out a way to get it imported. :innocent:

Yes yes I would say that GM was Born In the dirty OShawa lol

On a serious note, my grandpa, dad and uncle all worked at the oshawa gm from the age 18. All retired a long time ago

yay for leaving Oshawa.... I will never move back there... I would move back to Canada Of course

CanadaSchool Shooting discussion gets my son in trouble??
First of all I would be making a appointment at the school to have a nice discussion about them "red flagging" my child for asking some questions. I understand that bad things happen and that most people are "trying" to avoid future violence, but how does making a 12 year old feel humiliated help the situation. I know as a 12 year old I would have started skipping school if I was made out to be a "bad" child for simply trying to get some answers. However I would have a chat with him and let him know that in the future acts of violence are not to be discussed but he can always come to you for the answers instead. Explain that some people are worried about future mishaps and to not take it personally if thats even possible.

Granted I am Only 25 years old..... I JUST had to read about "columbine". Not sure How I missed it but Maybe I was Not interested In seeing or hearing what was happening. I do not find it hard to believe that a 12 year old would not know, you guys recently moved to the states. Heck Ive been here over a year and I still don't know a whole lot. This does scare me if they are using your sons small disability against him. Tons of children have different types of disabilities, My son has a few so I can relate in a small matter. I hope that having him retested will help him to maybe be moved into a class more related to his disability. My son is in a regular class but has a speech therapist and a Special ed teacher come help him a few times a month.

Let us know what happens

CanadaI751

ok thank you, yes the children came same time as me but we each had own I130 does that matter, still can we go on same I751, cause that a lot cheaper then 590 each if we can all go on all.

as for I751 my USC Husband fills out part 4 and signs last page under spouse signature

thank you any other help anyone can give
i appreciate it

Yup as long as they came with you they can just be added on your sheet. and it saves a bunch of money :)
CanadiandggalFemaleCanada2012-02-11 19:36:00
CanadaI751

when we apply for removal do I fill it out or my husband (usc)
also if my children his step children also have a condition can we all be on one I751 or do we all need seperate and pay amount X3

Thank you

I still have a few months to I do the i751 but You fill it out.

As for your children if they came with you on the same day or within a 90 day range, you can include them under part 5 of your paperwork. You will need to pay a filing fee of 505... then you will pay 85 dollars for each person for biometrics... SO 590 for yourself then 85 dollars for each child.

I hope that helps

CanadaI'm back from my trip!

I had an awesome time while visiting my husband and his family for the holidays!

I started out with a 15 hour day just getting to Calgary. Soo many lay overs. I finally get there and forgot about the 20 mile hike from the gate to customs at the Calgary airport.

Since I'm a NEXUS card holder I zipped right up to the kiosk. I went to hand in my slip of paper and I was asked a few questions. Then asked "Why are you staying so long?" (19 days) "I'm on my semester break from school and wanted to be with my husband for Christmas" I was immediately whisked off to secondary...

I was asked a bunch more questions and the last, he asked "How do I know you're going to leave Canada and not stay with your husband?" "Because I have four children in the US that I am NOT, nor do I ever intend to abandon" I guess that was a good enough answer, then I got something I've never had, nor ever heard of before. He stamped my passport and wrote 5/1/12 under it. He said he was giving me an extra day to leave Canada (my return flight was on the fourth) I walked out in a kind of daze thinking 'holy #######, I got my passport stamped' This was such an anomaly that everyone in the family wanted to see my stamp!

There are places I MUST go while in Calgary, one of them being Chianti in the NE part of town on 32nd Ave, Keith's Deli by Chinook Centre

I've been to Canada many times. But only to Calgary and Winnipeg and a few day trips to Banff.

On this trip I experienced:

Hockey games! We went to one Flames game and two World Junior's games. While not being my first NHL game, it was my first World Junior game and WOW.

I traveled (what felt like) half way across the country to Winnipeg with stops in Esterhazy, Sask and Shoal Lake, Man along the way. Going 100km/h on snow covered gravel 'hiways' totally blew my mind.

Ukrainian-Canadian's eat a metric tonne of food at Christmas. The 12 courses of Christmas Eve was a bit over whelming. Christmas day, holy crow, we had 6 meals during the day and a 'midnight snack' that was another meal. By the second meal I was skipping over the turkey and ham (we have turkeys and pigs in Tennessee) and loading up on perogies, holubtsi, kubasa and kutya. How those people don't weigh 1000 lbs each I have no idea! I also learned some Ukrianian so I can some what converse with hubby's grand parents. Totally awesome to experience another culture and their customs.

Kit-Kat bars and ketchup are NOT the same as in the US.

I'm not fond of Smarties.. I'll stick to M&M's, thanks.

Timmy's coffee tastes 90000 times better from a store than the pre-packaged coffee my in laws send me on my birthday.

I discovered my new favorite candy bar (yes, I know, chocolate bar to you Canucks) Coffee Crisp, I bought a dozen back home.

I also played my first bout of shinny. I'm sure my slap shot where I fell on my #### and missed the puck was a sight to behold.

I can't wait until next Christmas!

perogies, holubtsi, kubasa and kutya......MMMMMM I miss My grandmothers cooking and our big ole Ukrainian Dinners.... Please take me with you next time :)

I'm not sure about citizenship, are the allowing dual now? i don't plan on ever moving back to canada, but i also don't really want to give up my citizenship

If you become a us citizen the states will always think of you as a US citizen (they will not make you renounce your canadianship. Canada will recognize you as a Dual citizen Canadian/US citizen.

You will always pay uncle sam from then on no matter where you live but In most cases I think the positives out do the negative to becoming a us citizen... 1.5 years and I will be going for mine.

CanadaUS citizen pulled into immigration at Canadian Border

You allowed to visit--BUT you have NO RIGHT to visit! You have to satisfy them that your not living in Canada! And like the other stated, it may appear since you are spending so much time in Canada, it may appear that you are living in Canada. The onus is on YOU to prove that your only visiting. Best of luck

Yeah I had Two accounts stolen one with my main on it and the other had my alts. I got my main one back pretty quick , blizzard took the month someone put on my account and got back anything that had been changed or stoled. On my alt account, I got my account back, changed everything and got to Keep the MONTH that the hacker put on my account. What are they going to do about ? Nothing because the hacker hacked my account thats his stupidity.
So I have both accounts back, changed every password on everything, wow, emails, EVERYTING and put a authenticator on the world of warcraft accounts.

Its not too hard to get an account back and she really should get to keep everything :P

I sent them 5 emails and waited two days to hear anything when they did email they said they couldnt tell me anything as it wasnt the registered email NO duh because someone stole my account and changed everything. finally called back a million times and waited on the phone for over a hour on hold for a 2 minute conversation and got my account back. Love blizzard but hate there customer service at times.

CanadaLiving in the states while working in Canada.

Hi everyone. Got directed here from Canuckabroad.com. And will ask some questions that I asked there. Just want to make sure what I'm doing. Lol.

I am a Canadian citizen who works and lives in northern ontario. I work for a mining company and have a 7 day on 7 day off schedule. I own my own home up here as well.

For the last year and a half I've been in a long distance relationship with a girl who lives in the thousand island area of ny state. I travel and stay there on my days off and allways tell the boarder guards I'm visiting a friend when I go there. I allways bring my pay stubs and some utility bills just in case though.

We are engaged for just over a year, can't get legally married yet until I am legally divorced though. My ex lives about an hour north of that area with my son.

Now my questions

1- when we get married, can I be sponsored by her to become a legal resident but continue to work up north. And during the visa application process, as long as I can show significant ties to Canada (job, residence and immoderate family) will I be able to cross the the boarder back and forth without being denied entry (I get the idea that cbp may look at me as a potential risk for illegally staying if I'm waiting on the visa) I don't want to end up being barred entry especially if we decide to start a family
. Yes she can sponse you once you are married by going the cr-1 route. The process will take about a year and during that time you can work in Canada and visit her. It is still always up to the CBP and you may be denied entry but even if you are it will not affect your visa.

2- after I get a green card will I still be able to work in Canada, and will my employer need to do anything differently? Will I need any permits?
I know you can still work in Canada and you wont need a permit but im not sure how it works exactly. Im sure someone will be more imformitive.
3- while my schedule is 7 and 7 I woul be in Canada for about 8 days then in the states for 6 due to the travel time. Will this cause any issues?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum to post this but it's a multi faceted question. Thanks for any replies.

Also would it be adventageous to apply for a fiancé visa or get married and go spousal?

In your case I would go with the spousal (cr-1) visa once you two have gotten married. You will be able to still work while you wait for the pprocess. Also it is less expensive and more convienent in my opinion.
The fiance visa will not let you travel back and forth until you AOS so you will be unemployed for a few months.

CanadaApplying for U.S. Passport of U.S. Newborn

Background:

Last month, my wife and I had our first baby. We are both Canadian Citizens but had our baby while visiting in the United States.

Our newborn is a U.S. Citizen by "right of soil" because our baby was born in the United States (jus soli), and our baby is also a Canadian Citizen by "right of descent" because my wife and I are Canadian Citizens (jus sanguinis).

We have our baby's U.S. Birth Certificate, and we are now starting the process of obtaining a U.S. Passport for our baby.

Issue:

Because our newborn is a minor under the age of 16, there are special requirements to follow when applying for our baby's U.S. Passport, including applying for the U.S. passport in person.

One such requirement is that both parents must provide identification for themselves. Based on what we've seen on the U.S. State Department's website, the "primary" evidence of identification that they accept must be U.S. Identification. However, my spouse and I do not have any U.S. Identification because we are not American Citizens nor U.S. Permanent Residents. We are Canadian Citizens living in Canada.

According to the U.S. State Department's website, if "primary" evidence of identification cannot be provided, "secondary" evidence will be accepted as long as there is an Identifying Witness who can swear to the parents' identity. This Identifying Witness must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident, and must have known the parents for at least two years. Unfortunately, we do not know anyone who is a U.S. Citizen nor U.S. Permanent Resident.

Question:

Will the Passport Application Acceptance Facility accept our Canadian Passports or Provincial Driver's License as "primary" evidence of identification? Any information would be appreciated.

U.S. State Department - "Apply for a Passport - Minors Under Age 16 (STEP 5)"
http://travel.state....html#step5minor

My best advice is head on down to the local us post office and talk to a clerk or give them a ring on the phone. From what I was told a canadian passport and drivers license should be enough. I just did my sons a few weeks back however I am a perm resident and my dh is a us citizen.

Canadamarriage liscence?

Since we are on such a time crunch..A marriage liscence in PA is good for 90 days I believe..They ahve a 3 day wait period..Can we get the liscence now before i do POE? since we wont get married when we get the liscence?

thoughts?

My husband got the license on his way home from work, when he was living in PA, I was visiting at the time. He just brought my drivers license along with him and they gave him the license, Of course they screwed up my maiden name so he had to go back and get it fixed lol. A ssn is regired and all websites will say that but you have to read it carefully...all US citizen require a ssn. You should not need to provide one as long as you clarify that you are not a citizen. However it is best to email or call the local office and just ask :)

4 years ago they made the appointments for you - it was equally frustrating :) Just have to hang in there and wait. This portion is absolutely the hardest because you can see the finish line.

LOL One year ago they were just starting this new system. Most people were waiting anywhere from 2 wks to 12 weeks to just hear a date. Try to be patient guys.

CanadaUS citizens looking for Canadian PR/Citizenship

I am a Canadian Citizen and US Resident(Green Card) working in US. My wife and Daughter are US Citizens. I was wondering how would I go about getting Canadian PR/Citizenship for my wife and daughter? I know I need to sponser them but Can I sponser them while I live and work in US? I want to do this now so we have the option to move to Canada sometime in future and my wife to be able to work right away rather than having to wait to go through sponsership. Thanks.

Yes you can do the process while you are living in the states.

CanadaFBI cannot read fingerprints

When I googled this to see what information was on the WWW, somebody had written about sweaty hands and that doesn't produce good prints so sounds like if your hands were wet it didn't help.

Yeah. I had this problem for both my Police record prints and the ones in Montreal. My hands get all clammy when Im nervous. They did eventually get some good ones, looks like I will have fun when I apply for removal of conditions this summer.

CanadaPOE at Piegan
I used Cornwall Poe and I just called right before I left and asked if they would be able to do it. At the time we were visiting a friend in Cornwall and the Poe was 2 minutes down the road. Call Ahead:)
