There's a difference between a Mormon or Muslim or anybody for that matter marrying more than one wife just because their religion allows it, and a guy who by mistake got married assuming he was free to marry when he was not. US Citizenship General Discussion	Travel before filing N400....Is it OK?	Tell your friends they are wrong and that they should stop spreading false information. Short trips like this do not jeopardize your continuous residence (no single trips longer than 6 months) or physical presence (at least 30 months out of 5 years) requirements. Even after you submit your N-400, you can take short trips and then update your N-400 application when you go over it with the interviewing officer. And, you can even take short trips between the interview and your oath ceremony and you just update your N-445 form when you go to your oath ceremony. Best of luck. Thank you so much! US Citizenship General Discussion	Travel before filing N400....Is it OK?	It all depends on how many days you have already have outside the US. If this trip puts your total over the amount allowed then it could be an issue. 6 months thing isn't what you think it is, it's about the nature of the trip and proof either you or the IO will need, 6 months just puts the burden of proving you maintained residency on you rather then on the IO (before 6 months). So just look and calculate your total number of days outside the US and tack on the trip and see if you are still eligible. If so, you'll be fine. Though do remember, you could get your notification or even your Oath during that time, so you do NOT want to miss that. Sometimes they give you very little notice, so trips before the oath can always be a bit problematic. You can vacation at any time during the process except if you are held to and AOS petition where you would have to wait to get your AP document (if that even applied to you). That is the only travel restriction one would ever encounter during the entire immigration process from start to finish. You just need to document all your travels before the interview, then after the interview to the oath that is all... Warlord thanks for your detailed reply! I ve made 3 trips outside the US totaling 63 days. I am planning to travel a month before filing. US Citizenship General Discussion	Travel before filing N400....Is it OK?	Hello! On January 2012 I will be eligible for citizenship and will definitely file for it but since I am planning to spend 3weeks in the Philippines this coming December I wanted to know for sure(before buying my tickets) if there is a travel restriction before filing N400? Is it not gonna break my continuous residency? I am just confused because I have friends telling me that I cannot travel before submitting my petition as it will reset my naturalization eligibility clock to zero. Personally I know it wont affect it unless I was out of the US for 6 months or more but they got me so confused. Is it true that I cant leave the US a month before filing and is there such a restriction? Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! USCIS has its own zipcode( Large businesses, companies ,organizations has their own zip) 75266 is their zipcode while 75222 is the postal office's zip code. Different applicants may have different types of ceremonies depending on where they live. You live in an area that is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the court hence judicial ceremony. US Citizenship General Discussion	Time Spent Outside the US - Unknown? How to get answers...	Going for an infopass is not gonna help. Like you, I forgot the exact dates of our visits to Canada as they don't stamp passports at the border. CBP doesn't disclose infos like border entries and such. So on my N400 I did exactly what the immigration officer told me to do....I handwrote EST(estimate) after each date that I was not sure of. US Citizenship General Discussion	Documents referring to you and your spouse	I purchased a home without spouses name and don't fear denial over that. It boiled down to me being able to get pre-certified for a big mortgage in about 10 minutes. Wasn't going to lose out on the house or pay a higher rate because spouse was new immigrant with no job and no credit history. Didn't have months to dally around when I qualified by myself with a letter faxed to me after a phone conversation. No way that one single item would be reason to deny. I totally agree! My name is not on our mortgage because my credit history when we bought the house was non existent. We're not gonna bother with re-financing just to please USCIS. IMHO for Naturalization, you don't have to provide truckloads of financial co-mingling evidence/s unless the IO doubts the authenticity of your marriage. Just my two cents. Placed a service request last week(NOA date 1/20) and received this email yesterday from USCIS: After checking our systems the biometrics taken on 02/25/2011 are still valid and you will not be scheduled again. My 3rd year anniversary as a PR is 4/14 and I had my interview last Wednesday 4/25 and took my oath the same day, Just 9days after my 3rd yr as a PR. I sent my N400 1/17 my NOA1 date is 1/20 so I placed a service request last week after not receiving anything for 30days. It is OK as long as a single trip doesn't exceed 6months. And of course you must have been physically present in the United States for 18 months out of the 3 years. Goodluck! Looking at your timeline I saw that you came here as K1. Based on that I am assuming that you have a 2yr conditional card. When did you apply for ROC?You need to have the conditions removed in your GC before filing for citizenship. If you already did that's great!! US Citizenship General Discussion	N400 - No FP after 43 days	That happens a lot. My biometrics was waived. 30 days after mailing my application I called them & filed a service request. A week after, I got an email saying that they waived it as my fingerprints(from ROC) is still valid. I printed it out and took it with me on my interview just in case I got asked for it. The FP issue never came up on my interview & I took my oath the same day. FP is usually valid for 12-15months. US Citizenship General Discussion	Urgent! THIS IS NOT AN INTERVIEW LETTER.	Since you did not file taxes there is no way you can provide tax transcripts. You should then submit Form 1722 which is a verification of non-filing which IRS provides to confirm that a taxpayer did not file taxes for a particular year. It can be requested by completing IRS Form 4506-T, checking the box marked "Verification of Non-filing" and mailing it to the IRS or by calling them and have them faxed it to you. Yes 4506-T is Request for Tax Return Transcript but that's what you need fill up. Just check item # 7 for Verification of Non-filing. US Citizenship General Discussion	15 months validity of biometrics?	My biometrics for N400 was waived so I don't think its an SOP to have it done at every stage. I was not even asked about it at the interview. When I made an inquiry they told me that my FP for ROC is still valid so they will use that. But since they already sent you an appointment letter the best thing to do is to go and have your biometrics taken . US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 JANUARY 2012 FILERS	I finally got that precious little bit of paper back that I kissed goodbye to back on April 17. Today I opened my mailbox and found that my naturalization certificate had returned back to me. So I am finally all done. US passport & CoN are now safely in my hands. So happy to have it all finished. I will be sticking around to see the rest of the January filers through. You guys are great and have so much patience. If you are sill waiting, hang on in there. US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 JANUARY 2012 FILERS	Pepper, because our ceremony in Los Angeles was so huge (and possibly because they have one of the passport agencies in LA??) they had set up with the USPS to accept passport applications after the ceremony was completed. So I got my CoN, signed it and then lined up, handed in my form and paid my money. I held my CoN for less than 20 minutes, I think. Ah OK! Thanks! Hope u get your CoN soon! US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 JANUARY 2012 FILERS	Miguel 123--How was the interview Thursday??? Did you see us? hahaha...like you even know what we look like. My husband was approved I wrote about it here http://www.visajourn...ship-interview/ Congrats Nich-Nick!! Passed the interview at Federal plaza in NYC. It was hilarious, because after reading about all the people having problems with speeding tickets, I brought all the receipts, my driving abstract, everything you could possibly bring to the interview. When I mentioned it to the interviewer and stared pulling all those documents from my bag, the (very nice) interviewer said "Dont fix what ain't broken. I'll ask you if I need anything.", and approved me without even looking at those. Awesome! Didn't get the oath letter same day though, as by the time I was interviewed, it was already like 4pm I was in a waiting room with at least 500 people. Yay! US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 JANUARY 2012 FILERS	Passport Application update! So, I applied for my US after my passport yesterday afternoon after my oath (in the morning). I scheduled for a 2pm appointment at the Dallas Passport Agency located downtown Dallas, at Earle Cabell Federal Building. I got there at about 2.05pm give or take, checked-in at the appointment window then I was given a number and asked to sit down until it is called. I had my application filled out online then just printed it out. By the way, I took my passport photos at CVS (instant photos took me like 5 minutes) where I was charged like $8 coz for signing up for a CVS discount card! I was like sweet! The cost is normally $10 I had my letter from my employer stating that I needed my passport ASAP for work and also a copy of my international travel dates for this weekend for work as well. I had my original CoN and driver's license and copies of each. I was called to another window where the lady went through my paperwork and asked me when I would be traveling and I said this weekend and that took her by surprise! Hehe? Anyways, she told me to come pick it up tomorrow (which is today) and so I did! To sum it all, I got my passport in less than 24hrs and I didn't have to part with my CoN so that was good. It all cost me a total of $195 ($135+$60 expedite fee) So now I am officially done with USCIS/passport journey as far as I am concerned! Yay! That's great that you dont have to worry about parting with your CoN esp. just a few days after getting it! Happy trip!!! US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 JANUARY 2012 FILERS	Thanks DeathStrike!!! Most definitely stay around especially for all our January filers!! I ain't leaving no man/woman behind! Know what, I woke up in the middle of the night and it hit me omg I'm a USC!!! I smiled real big with tears rolling down my eyes... it was such a great feeling... I can't really put words to it but it made me so happy!!! What a relief! I hope and pray for all those waiting that the rest of the journey goes smoothly and faster!!! What I'm so happy about is not having to go through finger printing and photo taking every time I enter the country! That right there saves me a whole lotta time especially when trying to make a connection! Advance Happy Birthday Blessed! I went thru all my immigration stuff to shred them and I found myself in tears. And yes it will be great that I dont have to go thru FP and photo taking at the airport or pay a travel tax whenever I visit the Philippines. Yay glad that you'll stay around haha... And that was quite a sizable group for a same day interview/oath ceremony. Thanks a lot Huffy! It was surreal...I still can't believe that I am a USC now! I was expecting maybe about 20 people thinking that they hold oath ceremonies there everyday but the 58 of us and our families filled up the 300 person capacity waiting area hahaha....
