US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS156K question
QUOTE
QUOTE (bluetony @ Feb 10 2008, 12:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Hello there

This is my first time posting on the board. I am applying for the K1 Visa and recently received 'Packet 3' in the post. I have been filling in the forms and will soon return them to the London Consulate (I am English),

My question is this: On the DS-156K form, it says that 'the following forms must be attached in order to apply for a fiancee nonimmigrant visa'. Does this mean that I have to return these forms when I return Packet 3 to the consulate? Or do I just bring these to the visa interview?

Any help anyone could possibly give me on this matter would be gratefully received!

Thanks again

Tom

In our country DS-156K form will be brought to the embassy during the scheduled interview together with DS-156 and DS-157. And we dont have Packet 3. wink.gif How I wish I could help you. Other VJ members will gonna help you for sure yes.gif .Goodluck. good.gif

Please help. I received my packet 4 last saturday and noticed all the ds forms enclosed. But I plan not to use any of those but instead, just download them online, fill them up then print. Will this be fine??

Will I print each ds forms back to back? I noticed in the packet that its printed on short bond paper but seems the bondpaper is of special quality. Will I have to follow these specifications? Thanks for any help.... blink.gif

Lady Anne,
whistling.gif Got my packet 4 also but I will only use the appointment letter. I will just download the forms online coz I noticed sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif that the forms in the packet are not the updated ones. The forms in the packet expired 7/31/2007 while online the latest has an expiration dates 9/30/2010. cool.gif Think we have the same inquiries, but, I would solve my burden that way.

Typical help too many get from a lawyer. No one fills out both the 156 and 230. If your lawyer is going to handle the 157 hope they know the fee has increased to $131.

That is true. I personally knew someone who had her interview last Jan.4 and just rely on their lawyer, but the lawyer didnt knew probably about the 650 verification fee so, they just pay it on the day of the interview. Sad to note,up to this date they are still waiting for the visa. unsure.gif Good thing that Lady_anne is a member of VJ kicking.gif and very inquisitive that justify her intelligence good.gif KEEP IT UP VJ FAMILY

I paid yesterday. Pay it as soon as possible . I knew someone who had her interview last Jan.4 and didn't know this verification fee so, they pay it on that day at the embassy. sad.gif It is sad to note that they are still waiting for the visa up to now.

MY DEAR FELLOW VJ CREW!
Well guys about having and planning your be with your fiance during the interview i did not see any highly rcommend that you should be there during the interview save the money for your nice wedding plan and start with new life and family , the most important that you have a proper documents that you submitted during your pre-screening interview ,this process i know it cost a lot of money suporting your fiancee in the philippines ? because if you dont have that things with you the next step the consul are going to asked the luck documnetns and 99% they are going on put you on hold for realessing your visa .And us soon us they are going to asked that from you you have to return and bring the documents with you in the U.S EMBASSY.

In prism counselling as soon as i receive my visa at 11o'clock during my luch time i call the prism to asked what is there next session for counselling i got 1:30 pm but i'm late lol just 5 min.but guys dont be late because they are not going to review the last minute of there topic but the one on one counselling interview they give you a little bet of heads up on the past topic and i paid 250, you have to come at least 10 min.because of the application form information about you and your fiance and taking your digital photos.

And after prism i go direct to the CFO REMINDED guys do not ride to the to the bike thing or (tricysikad i'm not so sure how to call that) just go for taxi still the same they are going to asked you 60 peso from that bicyle thing lol better get a taxi and you fell safe i'm so scared when i ride that bikecyle to bring you in cfo you have some information you feel it up and on the window they are going to asked you some questions and set down for about 30min.before the certain window called you and pay for stamped 450 peso i hope you can get some heads up in here.

Need your help on filling out form DS-156 specially questions 26, 27 and 32.

Question 26 asks you "How long do you intend to stay in the U.S.?" - How did you answer this? I mean we intend to live there until probably forever right and be with our love ones?

Question 27 asks "What is the purpose of your trip?" - What did you put in there?

Question 32 asks you "Do you intend to work in the U.S.?" - The answer for me would be YES but i still do not know where will i work there? Is is ok just to put "NONE" and answer YES?

Thanks again for all the help!

I bet he is hungry now, too... sorry to hear that your fiance is having a hard time at st Luke's

I took my medical thursaday, jan31, 2008 and got results yesterday.. I would just like to share my medical experience at SLEC

I decided to take early medical.. I'm scheduled Feb 25th but decided to take it as early as possible. I thought it would be to my advantage to take early medical so at least i'll get it over with (also means i'll be one step more to being with my sweetheart!!! wink.gif ) . They will allow you to have early medical as long as you have the original appointment letter.

These are the things you have to have with you:
1) APPOINTMENT LETTER ( photocopies of the appointment letter too)
2) PASSPORT ( if it would help, i also had my passport photocopied anyway... )
3) PHOTOS ( they say 2 photos but bring more!! I advise about 4 ) , you need to put your name at the back...
4) PEN ( ballpen preferably not sign pens )
5) FEE ( i paid about PHP5945 )
6) others: they may ask you for old film of xray more than 3 months ago to compare results with

FIRST DAY

My sked was suppose to be at 7:30 but i left early and got there before 7. THere are already lots of people by then but not too crowded compared to around 9am..

approached the guard, who is always nice. Greeted him good morning and with smile usually helps alot..

Guard will ask for appointment letter and will mark it but will also ask for the photocopy, (keep your original appointment in safe place after guard gets the photocopy. You will use it at the embassy interview) will give you the Personal Data Sheet (PDS) that you have to fill out inside.. Make sure before you get in, Manong guard puts a mark on your hand so you can go out anytime in case you may get hungry and not being asked or reprimanded by the other guards. Manong guard will also give you a guide, it really helped me alot and kept it handy, made everything smooth..

A few tips: if you have any relatives abroad, you NEED to have the complete name, address and contact information for them too as it's required on the PDS or they may ask you to fill that out anyway on the second day if you fail to fill it in. and all other information you failed to provide. Also the address of your fiance and contact information. I actually managed to memorize my passport no and the case no so it came in handy while filling out the forms. BTW, its also best if you will get all your documents in a see through folder so it will be easy to pull it out esp in the crowd.

After cashier checks your PDS, you will be asked to pay the fee.. (on the guide, it will give you respective floors ). After paying the bills, you may go through the medical procedure.. Mine is xray first, then blood, urine, vital signs (heartbeart, pulse, BP, height, weight, etc), eyesight..Immunization interview : they ask you if you already had chicken pox and you have to show marks for it, also same with the CFG mark or keloid ( bakuna which is usually on the right/left upper arm) I had difficulty with mine since i didnt have a keloid from it...which usually happens when it was taken when you were just a baby. I also asked my mama what all are the immunization i was given when i was a child. It willl come handy on the interview.. Then you have the physical exam, in which they will check everything... ask you to take off everything.. breast, history of sickness.. if you were hospitalized, stuff like that.. (just answer as honestly as possible as they will know if you are saying the truth or not). And relax and manage to smile even if the doctor is not so nice.

then all is done..

you will be asked to get an appointment date for the results along with the receipt that you paid for.
DAY 1 is so easy and i was done by 10:30 am

NEXT DAY! painstaking waiting for me though... My second day didn't go that well..

Things to bring on 2nd day:
1) appointment letter from yesterday
2) passport
3) pics 2x2
4) pen

My schedule was 9am.. I thought coming in early will be of help.. I came in at 8:30 am, showed my appointment sked to the guard. Guard will check if your records are ok or not. If ok, if you agreed to take your immunization in Philippines, (coz you have an option to just take it in US), then you will proceed with immunization and just wait for the results at counter A-F. Painstaking waiting for your name to be called.

As for my case, my records are not in yet.. I was thinking either i came in too early that my records are not yet completed or my records were not just finished yet.. I got there at 8:30am, have to proceed to counter A.
After 2 hours... nothing yet... mad.gif crying.gif helpsmilie.gif I usually ask around from the staff there but they wouldn't really entertain any questions and would only inform you to wait for your turn. You will understand as you can see everyone doing their job and trying to serve as many people as possible. Patience here is actually needed. Good thing my sweetheart also called me when i asked him to, just for moral support. Since you couldn't approach any one for any answers, I managed to run after the other staff on the way to his lunch. So i told him that I've been waiting for my turn since more than 4 hours ago and would just like to ask if that's normal for that to happen. He said that he really doesn't know but said not to worry as if i get immunized for that day, i most probably will get the results the same day. I got some relief on that and went back to my seat and just a few mins after, my name was called. I had to wait until past 130pm before my name was called for the first time ---> immunization.. Before that it was really boring... may have to bring a book with you or something to do like ipod maybe or something you can do while waiting. I had my immunization by 1:40pm already.. The nurse was kinda perky when i had my shot.. Reminded me not to get pregnant within a month after the vaccine. hehehe... Then asked me to wait back to counter A-F for my name to be called again.. that means continuous waiting. My butt is aching from sitting already. Good to have my snacks with me. I finally got my final interview and results by 4 pm.. You have to have presence of mind on the last interview before they release the results. Sometimes they ask tricky questions. If you are unsure of the question, you can ask them again and make sure you understand each other or you are on the same page.

They took my passport and informed me that they will be the one to forward it to the embassy. gave me my xray film and had me sign all the paperwork that needs to be signed. They make us use the signature you had on the passport always.. So if you happen to have more than one signature, use the one on the passport. You may also ask the final interviewer if it means you are good with medical. Usually they say as the case may be, if you are immunized that means, your medical is ok. good.gif Got this from one of the friendly staff there, actually was my lucky charm. I went home exhausted and a bit fever from the vaccine. But Im really glad that it's done and over with..

Good luck to you all... Good luck to us for the interview.

Acel

I will have my early medical on the 20th and 21st... thank you for the info. Goodluck on your interview.

Philippinesapproved medical
QUOTE
QUOTE (docjazzie @ Feb 7 2008, 08:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Just wanted to thank VJ for all the helpful infos we got from here. feb 7 was the second day of my medical and I got approved along with the other VJ members, Lily (runs4fun) and Margaux. Peewee still have to go back for her son's skin test reading and their results and we're praying that they get approved too.

As much as i want to post the detailed experience of my medical, i really couldn't recall the step by step process tongue.gif so i'm gonna try my best to narrate what happened....

I met lily at the mall so we can both go together to SLEC. We got there around 1pm and gave the guards our original appointment letter and the xerox copy, passport and 1 2x2 picture and then we were instructed to fill up the form and submit it after we're done. i think it was like 6 or 7 pages thick writing your name, birthday, passport number, case number, petitioner's info, etc. after that, go to the xray room. They took 3 xrays for me because the first time, they put in the wrong name, so they had to do a retake, then the film came out blurry so they had to do another one. My tip, listen very carefully when they call your name. In my entire time at SLEC, they did not pronounce my surname correctly so i had to listen very carefully all the time. besides, the microphone they're using has an echo, so it's really hard to distinguish what they were saying.

after the xray, go to the laboratory for the blood and urine sample. This is where we met Margaux, PeeWee and another girl Ioulanie who we recruited to sign up in VJ because she was so surprised that we know a lot about the whole process and she and her fiance hired a lawyer for their papers and we, VJers, were like, "you wouldn't need one if you sign up at VJ" tongue.gif after the blood and urine, we were asked to go down to the 2nd floor for the vaccine interview but when we got there, there were so many people lined up so the guy said to go back to 5th floor and have our PE first, vital signs and eye exam. So we all went back up and had our PE at rooms 7 and 8. Yes, we all had to strip naked! wink.gif i was just surprised how fast the lady doctor asked her questions. Being a doctor myself, I kind of knew the sequence of her questioning usually beginning with your present illness (if any), past medical history, hospitalizations and operations, and lastly would be drug use and family history. I was taken aback when she asked me about drug use because she said "cannabis, ampethamine, nasubukan mo na?" = "cannabis, ampethamine, have u tried them?" it took a few seconds for me to realize she was asking about drugs. She didnt outright say have u ever tried drugs? she rattled off the questions soo fast if you're nervous, you might answer yes without understanding it. so listen carefully and understand what she's asking.

after that we all went down for the immunization interview which took ages. we were done around 630pm and had dinner altogether. we were asked to come back at 2pm.

The next day, we went back for the vaccines. we were there at 1:50pm and Lily, margaux and Ioulanie got immunized around 3pm and I was immunized at 5pm mad.gif anyway, i was telling myself, patience is a virtue. be patient LOL i had 2 shots, one for varicella (chickenpox) and another MMR. after the shots, go down at the 2nd floor for the results. here, you have to submit 2 2x2 picture and your passport. Then we waited again and chatted while waiting and they will call you again for the results. I got called around 630pm, and i was so nervous thinking something must be wrong because all the girls i were with have been approved already except me, but thank God, when the guy called my name, I had this goody feeling and i couldnt stop smiling and he handed me my xray and had me sign the paper and 'm done smile.gif I called Dave to tell him the good news tongue.gif

we all had dinner again and stayed up til around 11 cuz we were all so happy kicking.gif

Btw, those plastic thingy they sell outside SLEC, the girls got it for Php35 only smile.gif

God is good all the time smile.gif

I am sooo kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif happy for that wonderful news Lyn good.gif . How I wished I was with you. But anyway, I will have my early medical on the 20th&21st. The only interventions that would hinder me on that date will be my monthly period... sad.gif I hope to see you on March 6 then yes.gif Thanks for the shared experience.... laughing.gif and you recruited somebody to join VJ....wow...it was so nice of you to help other visa applicants. Mabuhay! We (longwait2, pinktulips and james&rachel) stayed the night before in Riviera Mansion, 1 minute away from the US Embassy. Sis Rachel (who will have her interview on February) met us in the hotel and opted to stay with us since she was feeling excited for our interview and she wanted to make some chikka with us. We had a great dinner in my favorite barbeque restaurant in Malate.

We also had a rehearsal for the interview questions. It was like a Ms. Universe Pageant for us! Hahaha!!!

We planned to sleep early but it didn’t happen coz we had lots of chatting, girl talk – about our fiancés, love story and kinky stuffs. Around 12 midnight, we felt sleepy and started to sleep with a prayer in our hearts that God will lead our way for our BIG day tomorrow!

I woke up around 2.30AM – feeling so anxious, excited, MIXED EMOTIONS!!! All the girls were up by 3AM. Then, I called Chowking for our breakfast delivery. We had a wonderful breakfast before we proceed to the embassy.

Around 5AM, we prayed before we leave the hotel. Everybody was feeling goose bumps and I even cried a little coz in few minutes, the last part of the K1 journey will about to end.

------------------------------------------
We arrived in front of the US Embassy on Jan 8, 2008 around 5.15AM. We walked a bit from the non-immigrant visa line to the waiting area for the immigrant visa applicants. We sat down at the benches near the gate. We didn’t pay for the chairs for rent coz there’s one bench, which is enough for us. While waiting outside, all of us were texting and calling our loved ones to pray for us for our judgment day.

Around 5.45AM, one of the manangs who were selling some stuffs shouted that those with 7.30AM appointment can now fall in line. So, we hurried and almost ran. Hehe! We gave our mobile phones and other electronic gadgets to Rachel who waited for us the whole morning outside the embassy.

Flow of my interview proceedings:

1. Fall in-line outside the embassy. >> at this moment, prepare your appointment letter with a valid ID (NBI clearance is ok) to be presented in a while to the guard.

2. The guard checked my appointment letter and my ID. He checked if I’m the one on my ID photo.

3. Electronic scanner portion – all of your things are scanned here. So, if you brought with you any electronic gadget, you will be sent outside and fall in-line again. So better check your bag/s twice!

4. Just follow the line and you will be directed to the immigrant visa unit - right side portion of the building. Take a seat at the blue chairs and wait for the instruction of the embassy staff/guards.

5. I noticed that the family-based visa applicants were first called and directed to a window slot.

6. For us, K filers, the guard called us and we fell in line at the “Ticketing Window” where all of your DS forms (2 ds 156, 2 ds 157-1 on-line & 1 from the bank; 1 ds 156k) which is near the wash room and across the Delbros booth.

7. The lady gave me 7013 as my queuing number and I told that that is my lucky number coz that is my birthday, July 13/ 0713. And the lady smiled.

8. After few minutes, my NAME (not my priority number) was called for the finger scanning. When I was doing this, the embassy staff who was administering the finger scanning was holding a 2-inch thick folder. And I notice that that is our petition documents. Amazing!

9. I waited for 30-45 minutes for my number to be flashed on the board for the pre-interviewer session. I was called to Window 19. The gentleman there was nice. I greeted him good morning and he replied. After reading my name on his docs, he said that I have a nice name coz my last name is one of the angels mentioned in the bible (Cherubims). So I thanked him. Then, he asked if I’m from Lucena City and said yes. He told me that he once worked there. He even asked what is the famous food/dish in Lucena and if the old famous restaurant is still there. After those chats, he asked for my fiance’s name and his job. My fiancé is a cook so he said that I’ll become bigger when I get there! Hehehe!!! And how we were introduced. Then, he asked for Carl’s financial support docs. So I gave him my Folder 1 – financial support docs. Then, he asked for our photos so I gave as well the whole folder of our photos together. Then, he asked how many times did Carl visit me and the duration/date of his visit. Then, he asked for our correspondences so I gave him my Folder 4A which contains our cards, waybills, phone bills, money transfer receipts, cargo and courier receipts, etc plus our emails. Then, he returned to me my Folder 1 – financial support docs and told me to just give him the affidavit of support and Carl’s 2006 tax documents. So, I gave them to him. And he said to wait for my number to be called again. I thanked him and told him to please visit our province if he has time since it’s very different now.

10. Around 10.30 AM, the K1 queuing numbers were started flashing on the screen and we (girls) retouched our make ups and we’re so excited and nervous! Wahahahaha!!!

11. Around 10.45AM, my number flashed and I proceeded outside the Room 32 - the last room for the consular interview. I was praying while waiting – asking for the Holy Spirit to be with me.

12. When I entered the room, I smiled and greeted the Lady consul (who looks like Princess Diana) and she replied. Then, I waited for 10-15 seconds coz she was talking with a staff and typing something on her computer. Then, the ball started rolling! Below were questions to me:
a. How did you meet your fiancé? >> introduced to me by my aunt on the phone
b. What’s the name of your aunt? Is she in the US? Since when and how long?
c. Why did your aunt introduce your fiancé to you? I told her the story of our meeting on the phone and she was smiling while I was discussing it to her.
d. What’s the job of your fiancé?
e. What was he doing on the new year’s eve?
f. Do you have any other relatives aside from your aunt in the US?
g. You went abroad, right? >> yes
h. What did you do in these countries and how long did you stay?
i. Did you talk about if you will be working in the US when you get there? And what job?

At the last part of our conversation, she said that my documents were fine and they are just going to do some verification. Then, I replied to her “Thank you so much Ma’am. Have a nice day. God bless you”. And she replied, “you’re welcome and wait for your number to be called outside”.

All in all, my conversation with her was really enjoying and spontaneous. It was like talking to a friend who is interrogating me. . It was like talking to a friend who is interrogating me.

13. As I was waiting outside, all the girls were smiling. Meaning, all of us were APPROVED!!! Then, my name was called on Window 38. My number didn’t flash on the board so I was nervous. But we were almost 10 applicants that were called on that window and I saw our documents with the nice gentleman on that window. I was the first one to fall in line and then, he asked for my name and queuing number. Then, he told me that they need to do some document verification. So I told him that I already paid the P650 since I saw for their website. He was so surprised. Then, I showed him my receipt and the printed out instruction from Delbros which I downloaded from the USEM website. He looked at it and he gave it back to me. He gave a pink slip with my appointment letter and another document from them. I FELT RELIEVED!!! Then, he returned to me my folders.

14. Then, I paid to the Delbros the P165 courier fee.

Few minutes after this, I was crying softly coz my prayers are answered! THANK GOD and Praise Him! I also felt sadness for the idea that I will be leaving my family especially my mom, my friends and my country…soon.

----------------------------------
When we went outside, we were looking for Rachel who patiently and nervously waited for us the whole morning. I will never forget that moment when I saw her running, teary eyed and so happy to see us. There was also a funny moment that we didn’t know where to go out coz we were so excited to tell the good news to Rachel. Hehehe!!!

We met Rachel with our good news. Me and Rachel were crying coz we were so emotional for what happened. All of us were sooooooo happpppyyy and blessed on that day!!! PRAISE GOD!!!

When I was talking to my baby Carl, he told me that he didn’t go to work coz he was so excited, nervous and anxious for the result of my interview. My baby was so happy to know that I successfully passed my interview.

Then, we met Mike and Beth for lunch. The VJ family had a great lunch in Chowking! Hehehe!!!

~~~~~~~~~
To Mike and Beth, thanks for the tips. I’m so blessed to have you as my friends.
To Ate Cheng, Ate Kat and Sis Rachel, I enjoyed our time together. You will always be my sisters. I will cherish our bonding moments forever. God bless you and your fiancés/husbands and best wishes to the another chapter of your lives.
I have a friend in Manila who paid the fee for only Php650 almost the same time I did yesterday. Are those paying outside of Manila area normally are charge with Php 50.00 service fee?Just wondering huh.gif
Yes. yes.gif I paid Php 700 last Feb 1, the Php 50.00 is for the service fee charged if outside Metro Manila.....I did ask the bank about this. Goodluck.
After reading the replies here it sounds like the medical exam is a two day event, with the immunizations occuring on the second day. Can anyone tell me what the second day schedule is like? How long does it take on the second day? We didn't realize the medical exam was a two day event and actuall scheduled our return travel on the next day after our scheduled medical exam day. I guess we will need to extend our stay in Manila for another day??? Thanks for everybody's valuable help!!! biggrin.gif
Yes it is 2 days. That is why I stayed at Bayview Hotel for 3 nights and its 5 blocks away from SLEC. Soriente Hotel is just beside the SLEC. Usually, on the second day you will have to bring your passport, appointment letter given on the 1st day, 2x2 pictures 2pcs,black ballpen, a jacket coz its sooo cold in the 2nd floor yes.gif and a book coz its a long wait. Show the passport and the SLEC appointment with the receipt to the guard and the guard will stamped it with either WINDOW A or Immunization area-2nd floor. Mine, i have to go to Window A coz the doctor wants me to submit a medical certificate stating that i was given a medication on my BP readings which is 140/100 so high for my age.Once i submitted it, they let me proceed to immunization area. Some were already done with the immunization interview on the first day, but mine was given on the 2nd day followed by giving of the vaccines. After 2nd floor, was directed to 1st floor for the releasing of Xray film and the vaccination sheet 2 pages. They ask questions from what you wrote on your PDS and just making sure that you are consistent with your given information. Thats it.
Remember: Be courteous and wear a smile .... it seems they don't ask too many questions if they see you like that. GOODLUCK
is there anyway around this? online?
I think its not grounds for denials no0pb.gif but it can caused serious delay wink.gif if she dont have it and they ask for it. In my city, you can request it and released it the same day actually. unsure.gif I dont know why it took her too long to wait to have it. But, anyways, she still have time to follow it up before her interview. And goodluck on the medical. good.gif
Philippinessocial benefit plus w2....can it be considered total earnings ?
QUOTE
Yes, your Social Security benefits count toward your total income. The SSI will be reflected on your tax transcripts. You are not required to present the 2007 tax information yet, but if the 2007 income helps your case then use it.
I am not 100% sure, but think the 2007 income will be required at interviews around April 15.
Actually, 2005 and 2006 are much better but, in his affidavit of support , he is stating the income for 2007 ( he got it already) so, all i should do is to present 2007 if asked for proofs. Thank you edp333 for the help. It really ease my worries. good.gif good.gif good.gif
Philippinessocial benefit plus w2....can it be considered total earnings ?
QUOTE
The SS Benefit counts as the sponsor's income and like what edp333 said, appears on the tax return. If your fiance has filed his 2007 ITR and has a copy, it will be useful on your interview, otherwise, 2006 ITR is the latest year. They will know if your fiance meets the 125% Poverty Level just by looking at the I-134 and ITR. Having W2s and SS benefit statements on hand will come handy in case they'll ask you for it during your interview. And if you have it, why not include it, right?
--Mae
I have the 2007 1040 with w2 and SSA 1099.....thank you so much for the respond. It helps me relax now. I have the 2006 and 2005 too if in case it will be requested. Thank you....Thank you.....Thank you Mae innocent.gif
Is it okay to add SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT and W2 so that the total earnings will reach the 125% cut off? My interview will be on Thursday, and i need to know if i should present the 2007 tax with social benefit statement.....because his W2 only shows 15,000 and if the SS Benefit will be added it will sum up to 26,000. helpsmilie.gif
