I decided to go and update the London Embassy info page here on VJ to reflect the 'new' Packet 3, in that you have to download all the forms and the IV-15 checklist plus how many of each forms are required. I've also added the link on how to book the medical.

http://www.visajourn...e...&cty=London

I've found that with the link the Embassy provide in Packet 3 all the info you need is there but you have to explore every single link they provide to find it all.

thank you!

hmm.

dear embassy,

please do not be closed on EITHER 30 march or 04 april, as it is annoying. it is not convenient for any of us who are keen to avail ourselves of your services, and it is especially insulting to those among us who HAVE INTERVIEWS ON THOSE DAYS. please reconsider having your office team-building day or multi-cultural sensitivity training on a weekend day instead.

thanks much.

-the london visa gang

<sigh>

though i can't imagine it is going to be closed. no holidays or anything that i know of.

QUOTE (H&V @ Mar 15 2009, 09:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi mrandmrs, I think we are pretty much at the same place right now, and I had the same debate with my fiance last night. I have scheduled my medical for 3 April (and still need to see my GP before then too) and H is bringing his support stuff at end of March. I've been studying all the timelines on here, and using them as indication, there are loads of interviews up to the end of March, but only 2 VJers scheduled in April (only 1 K1) - and they're around the 20-24th. So i figured if I sent my checklist back this week (at the same time as the forms) any interview probably isn't gonna be until around mid April - mid-May. And if they do crazily schedule it before you have your stuff, I think you can ask for another date (not encouraged but it is possible - as long as you don't do it loads of times!). This is all estimation, but it's what I'm working on, hope that helps. V
it does help. thanks!

jamie is going to schedule his medical tomorrow (16 mar) for late march-ish. i guess that appointment is necessary for the embassy to process a returned 'packet 3'? so he thinks he will send it out on monday too.

shaz, (i still have a hard time with this nicknaming convention. i LOVE when british people say it (like we have a friend harry/haz and caroline/kez). but i feel like an idiot when i try to join in on it. but, since we are typing, i can sidestep that loophole.) (im sorry i make all of this little parenthetical asides. i like to provide context for my sometimes rambling posts.)...

back you you, shaz, <giggle>, thank you for mentioning the date pushing. i need to remind jamie of that today. might have slipped my mind. so thanks.

i am pleased to see the collective effort to help ms. magpie. i think it illustrates the power of this place. and it makes me grateful that i somehow found my way here to benefit from it.

jamie and i moved another step forward on friday. he received 'packet 3' on friday.

im slightly confused as to some of the timing at this point. (im also pretty tired at the moment, so maybe not at the top of my visa game.)

do you guys suggest sending 'packet 3' back immediately, even if jamie doesnt have (in hand) everything on the checklist?
he has not scheduled his medical yet (he does have a GP appt to 'top-up' on immunizations on 25 march). i assume he will get a medical appt in early april. the i-134 documents that must be originals (from me and my co-sponsor) will probably arrive in the very beginning of april too. having said that, can we send back 'packet 3' now if we feel confident that the medical will be completed and the i-134 documents will arrive in a timely manner? i am hoping (a lot) for a mid/late april interview date.

i also got the tax transcripts in the mail today. quick service. i requested them on the 8th and the arrived on the 14th.

gosh, im tired. goodnight, boys and girls.

three in a row, sorry.

so, i got a letter from my employer for the I-134. since i am employed seasonally (at a garden center for 10 months a year) and paid hourly (rather than having a regular salary), im worried that the information in the letter may not be what the person at the embassy is looking for. im sure my income would be considered borderline. therefore, my mother will be my co-sponsor and her employment (and financial stuff in general) is more solid-looking/traditional than mine.

the letter i got includes my start date, my position, my current pay rate and the number of total hours i worked last year. i am concerned that it doesnt state the total amount of money i earned. and it states that i am employed seasonally.

i do know we both will need compete the i-134 and submit the required supporting evidence.

is it okay for me to be more picky about the format and content of my mother's portion of the affidavit of support since it will be her info that will show solid evidence of support?

do you guys think that i should try to have my letter redone to reflect a total salary for the year or do you think its fine as is, and that i can just make sure that my mother's info is exactly what the I-134 asks for?

im having trouble phrasing my question, but i hope you can understand what i am asking.

thanks all.

im feeling slightly meh because i called the DOS to see if they could give me a firm date as to when the embassy rec'd our case, and she said 'it's on its way'. so i guess it hasnt arrived yet, despite what the last lady said. it was nice to think it was safely in the hands of the embassy in london. but im not too worried, still seems like things are bobbing along at about the right pace.[/size]

progress report:

called the DOS again this morning. (so easy to get through. it amazes me.) the operator said that 'packet 3' had been sent out today. woohoo. i need to get moving on sending signed documents to jamie so they are there in time for the interview. i hope i still have a week or so to get those out, because my co-sponsor (my mother) is out of town for the next week. i am counting on at least 2 weeks (probably more like a month?) of lag time between the embassy's receipt of our 'packet 3' and the date of interview. im sure that our interview wont be scheduled much before mid april. that would be perfect. we are shooting for entry in the first week of may. <hope hope hope>

anyways, i just happy to be checking off another step. feels good.

yoohoo! its me again. <waves>

so, i came back a week or two ago from a REALLY GREAT visit with jamie in england. and now ive got all my new boarding passes and the new uk entry stamp and new us re-entry stamp. jamie has a few things from this visit (like a hotel receipt and a car rental receipt with both of our names on them) as originals.

my question is, should i go ahead and send over the original boarding passes and other little bits of 'evidence' so he can have them if they are needed at the interview? or should i just scan/email copies for him?

it seems to me that this sort of evidence is not usually necessary at the interview. and just to give you a more complete picture, when i went, i brought him all of the originals submitted with the I-129F petition as well as a copy of the entire petition. meaning that he already has lots of evidence (photos, emails, bills, phone bills, boarding passes, leases, credit card stuff, etc, etc, etc, blah blah blah) of both having met and an ongoing relationship.

should i send more original evidence?

United KingdomSome amazing news regarding my cat
funny stripey cat.

im glad, mags, about the cat. and i am even more glad about a slight de-escalation of the family drama. what meanies they are! despite the fact that you dont seem to show any signs of cracking under ALL of this pressure (poor girl), that getting one source of stress off the table will give you a little more energy to devote to getting yourself ready and through this whole process. so im very very pleased to hear your news.

im also slightly jealous that you will be going through immigration with a cat at your side. (this is a HUGE statement for me to make as i generally do not care for cats. there, ive said it, im a bad person.) having your cat with you is the next best thing to having knight with you. moral support, something to talk to (quiet, mind. you will be in a public place. hee!) to keep you from thinking about the details too much, and a CAT to distract the immigration officer with! how brilliant! 'yes, sir/ma'am, i do have all of my documents. oh, have you seen my really nice cat?'

good for you, lady.

ps in reading an old post, i somehow thought your cat's name was condor. in fact, i believe condor is the name of the airline that is flying from london to frankfurt, or something. hee.

QUOTE (laura819 @ Mar 25 2009, 01:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
On the checklist, as most of you know I am sure, it gives a place for wedding date and travel date. We are planning to get married Aug 15. However, if possible at all, my college graduation is June 13, and I really wanted him to be over for that. So if we put the wedding date as August 15, but put a travel date in June, would they give him a June interview? Or do they go strictly by wedding date, especially since that is still over 4 months away? Is it possible we could get an earlier interview date?

I am SO sorry for all these questions, I am just trying to get all of my information straight!

vj exists to answer questions. no need to be sorry. you are probably asking a question that other people want to know the answer to.

s'all good, as they say. (they say it, i dont. : p)

and i think you do have a shot at getting him stateside for your graduation. just keep on top of things and hope that there are no snags.

United KingdomWot do i send bk in pack 3
we checked everything on the list (that applied to us) and sent it last monday, even though we are still waiting for the police certificate to arrive (we sent it out on 10 march. cheque was cashed on 17 march, so we are expected it soon.) and i havent sent the materials for the affidavit of support yet to my UKC (this week i hope.)

you really should/MUST have all of those things listed on the checklist (that apply to you) in hand at the interview. but i think it is generally acknowledged that it is okay to send back the checklist saying you do have them all, as long as you feel confident that you will have them by the time the interview rolls around.

i believe they will not schedule and interview without a complete checklist.

I don't think you're alone in not wanting the conventional wedding/being married route. No formal proposal or engagement ring here. We had fun on our wedding day dressing up and messing about in the snow, but it hasn't changed anything. We married ourselves (they let you do that in Colorado) so we escaped all the things about weddings that we don't like and were able to say things that had meaning to us. The ring I wear is a love knot ring that Charley gave me as a present early in our relationship that fits on my middle finger. Our wedding rings are hanging on a ribbon by the bed.

I didn't get an engagement ring either and there was no proposal. Like the Mr/Mrs we just worked out we could be together and started making the plans. I like what you said about this process just doesn't allow for alot of traditional dating, courtship, proposals etc. I kept saying, "So when are you going to propose to me so we will have a story to tell the Embassy." It became a running joke. Then once in the London Tube going up a tall escalator, out of the blue he said, "Will you marry me?" I have no idea the date or the station, but the guy at the Embassy didn't ask that.

im glad that someone else (especially you, supergirl nich) understands my comment.

i have moments when i feel bad that we are so non-traditional in some ways, but honestly this is what feels right for us. i am thrilled for other people who are super-excited about rings and table-settings and getting the whole family together, but for jamie and i, our relationship is personal (yet i talk about it rather freely in a publicly accessible website? heh.) and, when it comes to my commitment to him, i dont pay much heed to the desires of others. i feel bad sometimes that my dad wont get to walk me down the aisle, because im sure that is/was a dream for him, but im not willing to let that (unstated) pressure compel me to be someone other than myself. i am grateful that jamie and i think similiarly about these sorts of things (because lord KNOWS we are pretty damn different). jesus, if his mother had input on the 'wedding plans', i am certain she would have insisted on making me a wedding dress that i would have hated (or one that i liked that she would have hated.) ugh. i dont even want to think about it. i wasnt the type of girl who dreamed about a wedding day. ever. even though my parents had a good relationship and set a good example for me and my brother, i am not and nor was i ever hyper-feminine in a traditional/gender-stereotyped sense. (ie into dolls, interested in make-up, worried about boyfriends, etc) so i just never daydreamed about white dresses and swans and confetti and engraved pewter champagne flutes. having said that, i LOVE to go to weddings for all of those kinds of things. i love flowers (used to work in a florist shop in glasgow. best. job. ever.) and i quite like kegs of beer and little hors d'oeuvres , but i just dont need that for me. plus, i couldnt and wouldnt pay for it. oh. and i am a complete and total 100% atheist/agnostic. so that might have something to do with it too!

but i get over feeling bad because a. its really fleeting and b. im doing the best i can. ive never been married before so this is my first (and hopefully) last marriage.

tongue.gif I'm wearing technically what Knight refers to as a promise ring, but I sent him a man-version of one too (to ward off wayward women from hitting on him. It's not him I'm worried about, it's THEM!...or not really, I just wanted him to wear a ring as long as he wanted to wear it). laughing.gif I still think of it as an engagement ring, even though he mailed it to me and there wasn't a get-down-on-one-knee proposal.

Magpie.

no ring (im not a ring kinda girl), no proposal (mutual agreement after years of worrying that i was a cradle robber (he's younger than me)). i seriously NEVER wanted to get married because i am scared to death of getting divorced (parents divorced after 25 years of marriage, broke my heart).

anywho....

on this forum, the UK one, which i love <kisses>, it seems like we are split between being traditional and being practical. i think its interesting for people in our situations. the 'normal' path to marriage is mauled by this process. the casual nature of dating the girl or guy from down the road is not part of our relationships (for the most part, a good deal of time is spent apart.)

i ADORE jamie. i am proud beyond words of our relationship. people say 'oh!!! youre engaged' and i say 'according to the government i am!' heh. i have had to come around to the idea of wedded bliss, but i have always known that i would be thrilled to spend the rest of my days with jamie.

so we dont have any of the accoutrements of a 'normal' engagement (except for soppy, gross love), and therefore nothing to show (except the oh-so-romantic letters of intent). im not really worried about that. the only thing i have tiny little baby worries about is the interview question that seems to frequently pop up: 'so how did you propose?'.

but, at the end of the day, our story is our story and its the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

and ps the accesorize ring is AWESOME! i think thats so freaking cute.

United KingdomHelp - passport lost just before interview
QUOTE (ahlpo @ Mar 27 2009, 09:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Possibly the worst case of Murphy's Law...

My wife has just today lost her passport, either it got lost or was stolen, and her interview is on Monday morning at 8 AM.

I know the Immigrant Visa Unit can usually grant a conditional visa, but how can she get into the Embassy as this is her only piece of ID?

Anyone ever encountered this situation?

Any recommendations?

oh dear. my recommendation is to keep calm. but i dont have anything more helpful to say than that. :l

United KingdomTravel Question
what about this scenario:

my jamie has always booked his travel under the name he uses in everyday life (jamie Y) instead of the name that is in his passport (and now subsequently on the visa-related documents). does he need to book his ticket under that official name (jamie Y X)?

i guess the answer is book under the full/official name. right?
