moira, another big weapon? organization. sounds like you have that covered! also, ruthless efficiency.

and marty, i agree. somehow, someway, in the end it works itself out. even for those among us who had have some truly difficult obstacles (ap, bc issues, child custody issues, low income, arrest, etc), things have gotten (or will get) sorted out with some time.

i think jamie had that woman. she was training and i too thought that might be the reason for a lack of niceness. i also thought maybe she was born with out a heart? meanie. maybe shes really nice when shes not performing immigration interviews? maybe shes the life of the party?

yes, you need one original and one copy of the birth certificate and the police report.

no, they dont take your original birth certificate, but i am not certain if they take the original police certificate, or just the copy, or both. easier just to take a copy to be on the safe side.

Please obtain the original documents or certified copies and one photocopy for yourself and each family member who will accompany you to the United States. All documents that pertain to you are required, even if they were previously submitted to the USCIS with your petition.

there will probably be many things that you end up taking, but dont end up presenting. for jamie and i, it suited us best to be overprepared because it wasnt much more work than just bringing the bare minimum. my checklist has been described as over-the-top, which is just fine. it helped us feel prepared for almost any eventuality and ultimately it worked for us.

kirsten,

i updated my interview day checklist for you (and others). the pink dots reflect the things you MUST take with you. (for the i-134, you can do sole-sponsorship or co-sponsor. so depending on what you do for that, you may only need the primary sponsor's (that would be the USC) financial information.)

hope that helps give you another checklist to compare what you have against.

you know what you are doing, so just trust yourself! it'll be a breeze.

I have bought my $ for the visa fee itself.

the time of your interview should be printed on your 'packet 4' interview appointment letter. you will need to bring this letter to the embassy to show that you do, in fact, have an interview.

the courier fee for one passport is £14.20. i think its £15.70 for two. here is the website for the courier.

visa in hand! (whoa. how long have i waited to be able to say that? um. exactly 6 months, really.) delivered this afternoon, 2 days after interview in london. fyi, jamie lives just south of manchester in macclesfield. got there quicker than i had thought.

there are no apparent errors/issues.

i just said to jamie, 'this is my last wednesday afternoon on my own.' : D t-minus one week and counting.

its a shame that she didnt say something to at least let him know that he was finished. no friendly banter for my little peanut. aww.

anyways, he seems happy this afternoon. hes looked at a few tickets and hoping to fly on the 30th or the 1st. im looking forward to chatting with him tonight.

i am slightly <downplays> guilty of this as well. i found myself having to edit posts because i kept saying 'i' in stead of 'we'. i think i am just a lot more obsessive than he is. he can go with the flow. i have to examine the flow, figure out why it's flowing, where it's flowing and the best way to enter the flow (with a life jacket, of course). so i guess i had to go through this my own way and jamie in his own way. i have learned a lot about myself and the person i want to be (my better self) and i have learned about compromise because it is a 'we' process, we had to come to agreement about certain things. my behavior also is deeply rooted in a desperation to BE WITH JAMIE. what can i say?

i am proud of how we have weathered the storm thus far. i am more than certain of my love for him and his for me.

Check out the long line the day that pic was taken...around the corner. The line is headed toward the boxy thing out front (Security room). Then you go inside the iron fence and follow the sidewalk around the corner to the entrance facing Brook St. , near the end of the line of people in this photo. On our day, the line end was about where the person in bright red is.

aww. how nice is that? thank you. it does make me feel better. i have spent 5 years trying to share experiences with jamie being on different continents. im pretty good at it. i can track the progress of his train when hes traveling, i have my weather software set to show me what the weather is in macclesfield, i keep my clocks on uk time (BST <3)....and things like this help me. even if i am only imagining, it does help me feel part of the experience. so thanks. i appreciate it.

but, HOLY COW. that line is 11 times longer than i expected!

jamie informed me today that he does not want to go early to the interview (his is at 10 which seems comparatively late). <sigh>. i still have a few hours of lobbying left, but i suppose in the end it doesnt matter.

this is preaching to the choir, but i have derived SO MUCH comfort and support from all you guys. i think deep down, jamie understands why i am so attached to my uk vjers, but he likes to tease me. ha. i hate it though! i get really defensive and say 'noooooo. stop that. its so great. they are nice and normal people! and they know what they are talking about. dont make fun of my friends!' haha. : ) oh well. i dont care. the value of what i have learned here, my (new) ability to endure this process without a debilitating level of fear/misinformation (that was me before vj), and my sheer enjoyment of you fine people is indescribable. (try as i may with my wordy, typo-riddled, parentheses/bracket-heavy, too-much-information posts.)

that is what you meant! Actually that really is made with tomato ketchup to be honest...a substitute for that is tomato paste.
We Pakistanis dont' make this one...but I see what you mean now. It is usually served at chat houses or snack places, not at fancy restaurants...so rightfully at the takeaway you mentioned.
I have never made it so I guess you are going to have to rely on the recipe!

i make my spiced onions with ketchup. quick and easy. : ) i probably eat too much ketchup in general, and i definitely eat too much hot sauce!

havent made much progress.

found this awful photo, but thats what it looks like:

pink pakora sauce

and this recipe:

SIMPLE PAKORA DIPPNG SAUCE
250 ml good tomato ketchup
250 ml water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp mint sauce
1 T lemon juice
Mix sauce ingredients well and serve in a small bowl. Easy!

im sure there is more 'authentic' recipe that doesnt involve ketchup.

The reddish pink color is dark naturally, but restaurants usually add some food coloring for the dark pinkish color.
The dark reddish/pink color comes from the tamarind mainly (and the peppers of course).

its quite possible that the take away was owned by pakistanis. i think i asked the guy we always ordered from one drunken night. : l hee.

i DO want the recipe. yes, please! (im on this kick, now, of finding food i like, getting the recipe and making it healthier and cheaper at home. its fun for jamie and i!)

i was thinking of tamarind sauce. the only thing that throws me off is the color. it was honestly BRIGHT PINK, not a smokey red.

oh and i think you are right, we got it when we ordered pakoras NOT onion bhajis.

i appreciate your response. im in this phase where i am so exicted to have jamie come (three weeks if we are REALLY lucky!), but worried that he will be bored or miss things from home. so im trying to line a few things up that we can have fun doing. (a few? try a few years worth!) cooking is something we both enjoy, so i thought we might make an indian/pakistani feast one evening.

im going to read more about the differences between pakistani and indian food now. : )

maybe you guys will be able to help me...

my much adored fiance is rather fond of a particular 'sauce' we used to get at a indian takeaway in the west end of glasgow when we lived there.

im trying to see if i can maybe figure out how to recreate it. but im having a hard time researching it online because i dont really know how to describe it.

here is what i know:

it was usually served when he got an order of onion bhajis
it was bright pink
it was kinda watery
it was mildly hot, but not overly so
it came in a little plastic sauce container

any thoughts?

ive seen squash in the chain grocery stores near me. its in the 'british/irish foods section/shelf'.

i wonder if there's a british grocery store in new york city? i think there must be, seems like in big cities everything exists in one shape or another. im curious to try a salt & battery, which is a british chippie in the city.
