It would be even better if they actually processed cases in 6 months instead of posting about it on their site. :P

i am reminded of a broken record.

I agree with everyone who has told you report this all to ICE. You will be on the hook for $ if he becomes a public charge (until he achieves 40 work quarters or till he naturalizes).. And it is more likely that he will become one if he can't hold down a job or clean up.

i heartily agree.

have you contacted ICE (immigration and customs enforcement) to report that he may have used fraudulent documents?

sounds like a scary situation and a very unpleasant guy. hope you are going okay and moving on.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionChange of address online
vanessa, what do you think about submitting the AR-11 both electronically and via USPS when the instructions online state not to do so?

this issue came up earlier in the july 2011 filers thread. i think you are gonna say that it is better to give them the information twice to ensure that the address does in fact get updated.

i submitted the AR-11 online (it was a two part process) and then the i-865 via USPS (didnt see an online option for that form).

so. at the moment, i am writing up / filling in an updated 'intent to marry' letter.

questions i am stuck on:

should i include reference to my self as 'the petitioner', or' the applicant' when drafting the letter?

what would jamie be? 'the beneficiary'? im confused and id love a suggestion as to what would be most appropriate.

i feel like i should include our LND case number and possibly jamie's A number from the NOA2. necessary?

also, since i am surrounded by piles of papers (organized, i promise) and i have so many bookmarks open on my laptop, but i cant seem to determine WHEN this letter is required? at the interview, i believe. not before then, correct?

but, there are worse way to spend a monday afternoon. im quite happy sitting here, sifting through paperwork, investigating requirements, listening to 'ben hur' on the bbc (which is pretty good. i like roman-themed things.), and watching the light snow falling.

okay. back to work. thanks, guys, for your help.

im feeling slightly meh because i called the DOS to see if they could give me a firm date as to when the embassy rec'd our case, and she said 'it's on its way'. so i guess it hasnt arrived yet, despite what the last lady said. it was nice to think it was safely in the hands of the embassy in london. but im not too worried, still seems like things are bobbing along at about the right pace.

ms. nich, that was a brilliant review of the tax/i-134 situation. that will get printed out and neatly filed in my i-134 help file. thank you. seriously, thank you. <3

and also, its nice that you dont need originals of many of those items. easy to scan and email them off! all this printing, copying, and scanning helps me justify the purchase of my printer/copier/scanner in the early days of the i-129f. i think it has already paid for itself in the amount of frustration/anxiety it has prevented.

are any of the following needed AS ORIGINALS at the interview:

usc passport
usc birth certificate
tax transcripts
w-2's
paycheck stubs

im just trying to scan and email those items that he will not need to present as originals (or have originals on hand as back-up)

so far, i know that i must send him the following original documents:

completed and signed 1-134's for sponsor and co-sponsor
letter of employment for sponsor and co-sponsor
letter from bank for sponsor and co-sponsor
updated and signed 'intent to marry' letter from me (the usc)

hmm. think thats it.

ive decided that you probably already knew all of that stuff i spouted up there. ive also decided that you wanted to know roughly how long it takes to get a medical with the knightsbridge doctors in london once you have contacted them. :l im slow. sorry.

since we have not scheduled one, i cant tell you personally, but it seems like they have a lot of availability. i thought it said 1-2 days on the website when i checked the other day, but i dont see that time frame there now. instead it currently says,

The practice is open on Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm.
For appointments, please call 020 7589 8965 .
Appointments can usually be offered promptly at a time to suit you.

which also sounds promising.

i believe you can book your appointment once you have received your LND case number.

(it's very possible that i am just posting to read my own advice and see if it makes sense. ignore me. : ) )

I'm so excited to be joining in the group. kicking.gif

Recieved NOA2 so working on getting thing ready.

My question is:
From the time you called to get medical appointment in London, when was the actual appointment? I was just wondering what the wait time is like to see if we need to go ahead and get appointment. Incase there is a long waitlist.

i think what is next for you is checking with the nvc to see if they have received your case (which is forwarded to them from the USCIS). you should get a letter pretty soon from the NVC that states that they have indeed received your case and gives you your new case number. for london, it will start with LND.

here is some of the info from the vj nvc info page:

Telephone:

(603) 334-0700

An automated recorded message system is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to answer case status inquiries.

Status of case information can only be provided by entering your NVC case number or CIS receipt number (USCIS NOA1 receipt number). NVC has information on received petitions only. If the automated system does not recognize the NVC case number or CIS receipt number you entered, most likely caused by NVC has not yet received your petition.

Telephone operators are available to respond to more in-depth inquiries.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM (EST). Best time to call is 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM to 12:00 PM.

hope that helps a little. let us know if you need more help.

and i know i didnt answer your direct question, but i didnt really understand what you were asking. if you are curious about the timing of things, you can look at people's timelines with dates similar to yours in the timeline section of vj. here's a few to look at: k-1, vsc, london embassy you can get a feel for the timing if you browse through these.

Lastly, what is a tax transcript, is it just a copy of the above forms (W-2 and 1040) if the originals were lost?

from what i understand, they are simplified tax return records (or transcripts) and they will have all of the information that the embassy would want for the tax portion of the I-134 (if you are submitting tax information). i think they take the place of a 1040 and a w-2 (please correct me if this is wrong).

i ordered mine today on the phone, as back-up and peace of mind for myself.

they are free. the automated system is 24/7 is easy to navigate. the forms will take 10-15 days to arrive. but they are unnecessary if you have complete tax returns for the appropriate years.

hiya tayless. congratulations on your recent success! and thank you for taking the time to help.

okay. let's see.

how do i know if my case is 'in the system'? DOS told me that the case had been rec'd by the london embassy. (we will double check this if we dont see 'packet 3' in the next week.) there seems to be a bit of a delay (2 - 4 weeks?) from the embassy receiving the case from the NVC until the 'packet 3' is rec'd by the applicant. im happy to wait until we exist in their system to send materials, but i want to be ready to push for an earlier interview if time starts to become an issue.

police check is ready to go out on monday 9 mar

immunizations are being tracked down (and i am hoping that gets settled before the medical, which is not scheduled yet. we will try to hold off on scheduling the medical until either a. we get them in hand or b. we are convinced that they cannot be found in the paper files. we are hoping this will be resolved by friday 13 mar)

i think i understand about the checklist. i know (or i think i know) that it is the completed checklist and completed IV-15k that trigger the scheduling of the interview date. i see at the bottom of the current link to the checklist that it says January 2009, so i think that is the updated one.

i feel like a bit of a thread-hog, but i know that there are other lurkers and non-lurkers out there gleaning helpful information from this sort of thing. plus, there's the added bonus of the therapeutic effect of analysing the details of this process. : D

Also, it's a good idea to get a small binder or one of those folders with the clear plastic pockets to organise things. I made a pretty checklist on the front cover, so if anybody wants a template, let me know biggrin.gif .

ms. magpie, i would be happy to have a copy of your special checklist. from what i gather you are v. organized. thankyou.

and just to clarify,

DS-230 Form Part I
DS-156 Form (in duplicate)
DS-157 Form (in duplicate)
DS-156-K Form (in duplicate)

are the forms that can be sent in in advance of the receipt of 'packet 3'? and these are the only forms that must be sent to the embassy in advance of the interview, yes?

and as for the medical, we are confused as to if the immunization record is mandatory to have for the medical. jamie (the englishman) has been trying to track down this record, but is having trouble. (paper vs digital files at the GP's) i think he will be able to get it, but might take some time. he was thinking of going down to london in the next week or so to visit friends and get the medical done. after reading posts here (and in other topics), it seems that it is a good idea (though not mandatory) to take the immunization record to the medical because it is cheaper to have your GP give you the needed immunizations, rather than pay the hefty prices at the embassy doctors or to go through the hassle of another medical once he is stateside. am i stating the details correctly?

(how nice is it to have a place to be able to ask these kinds of questions? the psychological side of vj is very interesting.)

biggrin.gif It's lovely to have you with us while we're grinding our teeth in this endless wait. I'm not sure about normality, though...a little off our heads, perhaps. If you're waiting for your Packet 3, you might want to start preparing documents in advance. What a lot of peeps seem to have done is send off their documents well before the Packet 3 arrives, as long as they have approval. It might also be easier to send the various forms in dribs and drabs (with a cover letter explaining what your case is and such) while you're getting stuff together for your checklist so they have a fair chunk of your documents already. A letter when your IV-15 is ready, requesting a date in conjunction with a travel date, is also a good idea biggrin.gif.

Feel free to give any of us a prod biggrin.gif. We don't bite!

Hugs!

Magpie.

great! advice already!

so, while waiting for packet 3, we can gather and send in some of the required stuff. reading through the 'packet 3' london embassy link, here is what i think we can pre-send the embassy to get things moving:

DS-230 Form Part I
DS-156 Form (in duplicate)
DS-157 Form (in duplicate)
DS-156-K Form (in duplicate)

if and when we send these completed forms, we should include a cover letter of explanation referencing jamie's LND case number and other pertinent information with any correspondence to:

Immigrant Visa Unit
5 Upper Grosvenor Street
London W1A 2JB

[ the above forms are the ONLY things we can pre-send, correct? because the other items (listed below) need to be presented at the time of the interview, right? ]

additionally, we can get working on some of the checklist items that will be needed at the interview (but dont need to be sent in previous to the the interview). such as:

send off for the uk police certificate
work on and finish and then send to jamie I-134
gather (at least) 3 color passport-style photographs
get an immunization history [ may not be available. but it's best to get one before the medical, yes? ]
schedule a medical
attend the medical

wow. even just having to organize myself to write up this post (so that it is coherent and readable) is really helpful. i certainly hope that thinking, worrying, reasoning, wondering and venting out loud is allowed here. seems like it is. : )

if there is anything i have missed or lied about anything, please do point it out.

and thanks for the words of welcome, ms. magpie. <3

bob, was it a little room off to the left-hand side of the immigration checkpoint with a water cooler?

(me sitting waiting to be processed. i take photos of a lot of random things. :l)

i feel like i have been through a couple of different immgration areas at manchester, so you might have been in a different area. i got stuck in this one for about 15 minutes (which i thought was a horrible nightmare) and chatted with the IO. she was actually really sympathetic and just asked me to wait until she finished processing the rest of the plane. then she dealt with me and a girl who was claiming refugee status from an african country. i was scared, but i acted tough and i got through it. she said that my passport was flagged (from the previous year when i had a long chat at heathrow. horrible. i freaked out at the sound of airplanes, rolling luggage and cockney accents for the first few days in london. see mini-stury below.)

in january 2007 at heathrow. the IO there was pretty harsh with me. it got to the point where i was in tears talking about my younger brother who died 15 years ago and explaining why i was in love with a guy who didnt have the same education level as me. the guy was a bit of an #######, even if he was doing his job. he was a #######. the people in front of me spoke NO english. they could not tell him where they were staying. it seems awful that i had to answer a lot of personal questions (which im fine with, but it seemed unfair when the couple in front of me could not explain details of their visit.) he started asking questions and i just started dumping information. tons of detail to just be like 'dude? stop being mean to me.' he asked me why i had brought so many clothes and shoes and i told him 'because i havent been on a date in 6 months and i want to get dressed up for my boyfriend so we can go out to dinner.' he also thought it was sketchy that i had my laptop with me. he sucked. a lot.

this year, when i went, i think immigration lasted for all of 30 seconds. i asked why it was so easy this time and she said 'because im a seasoned immigration officer.' i told her i appreciated that very much. : )

One thing I wondered is how the DOS lady would even know if London is done scheduling May interviews? Is this something they just say at the end of every month?

thats why i thought it was a really weird comment (on the part of the DOS operator, not you). from what i hear, the DOS people just have access to data files linked to our LND numbers and our names. they only report case status and relevant dates. they have nothing to do with the scheduling so i find it hard to believe that they would know that sort of information.

it seems like there is no real end date to scheduling within a month if KAT just got bumped up to the 29th of april. we will see at least 5 or 6 more may dates i bet.

Whats the difference between them saying they reviewed the documents, and that you are eligible for an interview? Or is this the same? And I am sorry for posting the thing about what DOS told me about all the May interviews being given out...I didn't mean to cause this, I was just reporting what I was told. For what its worth, I did put a travel date.

laura, i dont know what the difference is? im wondering if there is one. to me, 'eligible for an interview' sounds more like 'yeah, we got your stuff. we have everything we need to assign an interview date' while 'we are processing your documents' sounds like 'we got some stuff from you. and we are still checking to make sure we have what we need.' this is speculation, and might be a question worth asking to the DOS operator when calling.

and i also think its fine to post what you have been told. Bob covers his bottom by saying 'your mileage may vary?'. the DOS operators are humans and make mistakes and give out misinformation sometimes. i was told by the DOS that my documents had been received at the embassy one day, and the next i was told that they had just been sent that day.

United KingdomThe 2009 United Kingdom Interview Thread!
i dont see how one can think that 'all may interviews have been given out' just because someone posted something that someone at the DOS said to them. thats not definitive information in my opinion. this board is not the gospel.

personally, i think you will get a may interview, moira. i cant remember if you filled in a travel date/ wedding date? if you did, then you are probably in good shape. if not, you may end up having to wait. if you did not put a date, you cannot expect the embassy to know when you are HOPING to enter the us and get married. we put a date (not one that was fixed in stone, just a date we were keen on) and we were lucky enough to be accommodated. we were prepared to not get it as well. from what i see here, the london embassy does a fairly good job of getting people in for an interview near to the dates requested. they also seem to issue slightly earlier dates for people who have been waiting longer. so you potentially have a couple of things going for you.

there will always be shifting timelines for interviews at the embassy. think of the percentage of people going through the uk embassy who are NOT ON VJ. we are dealing with a small to medium sized slice of the pie, and we are certainly not privy to the great majority of the information that the embassy uses to determine interview dates. there are cancellations due to schedule conflicts, illness, missing documents, and unfortunately even abandoned applications. marm just opened up an april date (before she even knew it)! and im sure someone slipped right in there. call the embassy for the code, send an email requesting an april interview mentioning that you are concerned about not having received 'packet 4'. that may trigger them to get you scheduled for an interview. (its possible you have already done this, but you could always do it again!)

and i am responding in this way because im not into alarmist reactions and i dont think they are good for the board. i find them to be a waste of energy that could be better spent otherwise. so it irks me to see someone getting upset about a RUMOR. people get whipped up into a frenzy and lose perspective. (im not addressing this to you moira, im making a general statement about this forum and other forums on vj.)

keep calm and carry on, as they say.

sorry to be so snarky, must be in a bad mood tonight. and im sick of hearing people freak out about swine flu too. so i am a bit short tempered

and ps. moira, when you call the DOS, do they say that you are 'eligible for an interview' but just dont have one scheduled? thats what they told me in my in-between time. that i was eligible but not scheduled. and then suddenly they told me jamie's interview date.

I guess that's any hope of a May interview out of the window then - I didn't realise that all next month's interviews had been allocated already. sad.gif

why would you say that? based on what evidence? you can do the 'woe is me' thing when you get a interview date that is TRULY disappointing. like freaking july. sit tight. call the DOS to your heart's content. heck, call the embassy on the extortion line if it will make you feel better. but giving up hope? i dont see what purpose that serves.

Oh well ... no chance of our mid-June wedding now .... sad.gif

i dont mean to be harsh. if you really think there is an problem with your interview date being issued, then get busy investigating. things do get lost. shite happens. you gotta keep moving through this and not get hung up on the bumps in the road.
