i am the USC, but my lovely boyf sent the following:

DS-230 part I [sending part I only]
DS-156 with color photo attached, in duplicate
DS-156k in duplicate
DS-157 in duplicate
checklist and IV-15 completed

i believe that the DS-157 doesnt have a place to sign. so you sound like you are all set.

and we sent photos with the DS-156, but vj wisdom seems to say that they are not required at this point.

and ive calmed down a bit, thanks to a very kind response to my questions by elmcitymaven (<3). im okay with getting a little worked up, but not a lot. i had a some really bad moments while i was preparing the I-129F and i dont want to waste any time or energy on excessive worrying for this part. difficult because i have a lot of general anxiety but, i have to say im kicking #### (seriously, you cant say ####? i didnt read ALL of the ToS but you can even say #### on american tv!) lately. yay for me. : )

glad youre posting 'packet 3' tomorrow. feels good. we sent ours LAST monday (16 march) and they had received it and put it in the system by friday (20 march). (i called the DOS to check the status). i will call again on friday (27 march) and see if the DOS shows an interview date on file (which they probably wont).

good luck and keep us posted!

and, if anyone has an expertise, i posted a frantic question or two about the I-134 in that thread as well. any help at all would be... helpful as im sort of getting worked up. (even though im trying to stay calm.)

Question, guys...on the new letter of intent, do I set the date for today or do I set it for the 3rd of December 2008, when we wrote it originally? I'm running around printing documentation today.

Thankums!

Magpie.

I would put today's date on to be honest. At least I did on ours. Not that they looked at it.

current date, i agree. its an updated letter of intent, to show that you both still intend. : )

and, although here we are all beyond this point, i would suggest to anyone starting this process, if you have the means, to buy and printer/scanner/copier. it has been an indispensible tool for both the I-129F and now for the interview portion of the process. it was less than $100 and it has saved me a lot of time and stress. it has also contributed greatly to my organization and my feeling of being in control of/on top of things. i have all documents scanned and uploaded to cyberspace. jamie has immediate access to anything that can be submitted in non-original form and i have copies of EVERYTHING so that when anything goes missing, we have it documented. makes me feel more secure.

all three functions have been very useful.

just a tip for anyone who is reading this thread and in the beginning of the immigration process.

Okay, called the Deputy High Commission, and the lady was incredibly helpful. She gave me an email address to contact and it was looking really hopeful...

And then I got this response:

QUOTE
Thank you for your mail.

For conducting any local searches, you will first need to contact the Nationality & Consular Registration Section (N&CRS) of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, public enquiry line, 020 7008 0186, which is open 10am - 12pm Monday to Thursday. They will explain in detail the procedure for tracing/obtaining your birth certificate. You will be required to complete a form giving all details and pay a fee of £ 37. N&CRS will then request us to conduct a search for the document and only then can we take things forward with the hospital/Bangalore municipal corporation, as the case may be. However, please be aware that this may not be possible within the time frame given by you.

So I check this number...and...it's the births/deaths line who basically told me to ####### off. I'll try calling them again but it seems like I'm going in circles now and this is all moot. I think I might just...aaargh sad.gif.
All that after a night riddled with waking up suddenly from various nightmares about my family members finding me...joy.

A Sad Magpie.

dont worry too too much. like ms. nich said, that list that documents your efforts to obtain it will be a good piece of evidence. you have as much information as you can have in your situation. it will not stop you from getting your visa.

i would keep at the n&crs. why did they tell you to ####### off if they offer a service that might help you? call (again) the department that oversees the n&crs tell them that you ran into a deadend. someone must be able to and is charged with getting this sort of information. and i would keep calling because you may get a different answer. keep at it
!

Just as an aside, US visa medicals are only available at the Bentinck Street office -- it's been well over 2 years since they offered them at Basil Street but it appears the Embassy STILL hasn't updated that (surprise, surprise).

interesting. thanks.

its a shame that the embassy website isnt updated more frequently considering how many questions they can answer before they even get asked. i would imagine the absolute most current information being available to interested parties would serve the embassy well. in this day and age, i think its embarrassing that there are typos and out-of-date information on the site. seems like a bit half-assed in the context of a process that is explicitly not half-assed.

i guess ive heard that the site has been improved from what it was in the past, so maybe i shouldnt complain.

United Kingdomthe age old question of how to keep in touch...
my UKC husband and i recently moved to a lovely new apartment. one of the things we let go of in the move was our landline. i had kept it for DSL cable, and previous to that for a reasonably good unlimited calling plan to the UK. $40/month for landline to landline calls. through verizon. (i got my money's worth every month!)

but the landline is gone. and we have some sort of fiber optic internet, which is relatively fast (up to 3Mbs, and its symmetrical).

my husband started looking today at options for speaking on the 'phone' with UK friends and family.

i would LOVE any advice offered about a service or program that might work for us. we are looking for the ability to call both landlines and mobile phones in the UK. we want others to be able to call us without it costing them a fortune or requiring them to become a telecommunications expert.

we'd be happy to use skype. my husband read about some sort of phone that you can essential hook up to your computer that will act like a 'real phone' and allow others to call you from their 1. landline 2. mobile phone 3. computer. has anyone had any experience of this?

i feel like people on VJ must have some experience of this topic so i thought this might be a good place to get information!

thanks so much in advance!

United KingdomInterview At Embassy :'(

I'm not trying to scare anyone. Are you trying to say there is ZERO possibility that these questions wouldn't arise?

you may not be trying to, but you are implying that a lack of a US visit is a determining factor in the issuance of a visa. this is NOT the case.
mr and mrsFemaleUnited Kingdom2012-01-07 18:11:00
United KingdomInterview At Embassy :'(
no. the UKC never having been to the US is irrelevant and would have no bearing on the decision. the cultures of the UK and US are quite similar. if they had never met, if the meetings had been very short, coupled with weak evidence, THAT would have been a factor.

LND is one of the easiest embassies to deal with (if everything is in order).

please try not to scare others who have only had 'one sided visits' into thinking they will be denied or even flagged for this reason.
mr and mrsFemaleUnited Kingdom2012-01-07 14:03:00

LND accepts co-sponsors as long as they meet the requirements of the affidavit of support (i134).

I read form 221 they gave give and they want additional proof of relationship and interview with petitioner (ME)

something is wicked(said in a boston accent) wrong. is it possible that there is information about your fiance that you are unaware of? cause... hoooweeeee... this is NOT AT ALL NORMAL FOR A K1 IN LONDON.
mr and mrsFemaleUnited Kingdom2012-01-06 23:53:00
United KingdomInterview At Embassy :'(
people. remain calm.

the OP has give VERY LITTLE information about the situation.

the embassy in london is pretty simple to get a visa from if:

a. you qualify for one
b. you have a bona fide relationship
c. you have your evidence in order

to me, it sounds like this denial was precipitated by poor preparation. the OP does not give me the sense the she or her fiance were well-versed in the process. and i am sorry for that.

here is what would be great:

if the OP still wants help, post one post with all information that is pertinent (this maybe more broad-reaching than you think. so if youre comfortable enough to share info and allow VJers to respond with informed comments.)

to people worried about their own interview, do as dan mentioned above. take this as a reminder to be vigilant in your process. if you read the k1 guides here and do the work to collect your evidence, and you have a real relationship, you will most likely be just fine! the embassy has seen it ALL. unless you have something that is a red flag, you will sail through, again, IF youre prepared.

much luck to all, though luck isnt really a factor in this process.

As a man in the real world we live in we almost have to live life in a defensive posture and that sucks.

yeah, i guess. but women have been inconenienced by this burden for centuries. its just growing pains while (some parts of) the world move towards less gender inequality.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI need some advice
if you have a job, id stay in the UK and keep earning money until your visa is approved. that money will come in handy when you come to the US and cant work for a period of time. also it s handy to pay for the expenses of moving.

i want to second the advice to read up on ALL parts of the process. once you have a successful k1 entry and you marry, send the AOS quickly so that you will be able to work sooner rather than later.

percy!! welcome and YAAAAAY!!! congratulations on being in love!

k1 sounds good for you, but my husband was a k1er so im biased.

as mentioned above, if there is nothing out of the ordinary with your case (aka red flags), you really DO NOT need a lawyer. the guidance available here has allowed so many of us to do this on our own and save thousands of dollars.

tell your lady that she need not worry, she just needs to be patient and organized! i would suggest having you both learn the process, as there are different requirements for each of you as you move forward. plus understanding what is going on helps you to feel as though you are not totally at sea.

start now. be diligent. use VJ. and think positively!

finding VJ is probably the second best thing youve done lately. the other would be meeting your lady. Posted Image

i dont believe that you need to send the USC's passport. my UKC will have a copy of my passport with him, and he will of course bring his passport to the interview, but an original passport for the USC is not required (at least at the london embassy).

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSpecific I134 Questions
in reference to the affidavit of support, i believe that there is no longer a requirement for anything to be notarized. the new I-134 form does not state the notarization is required and when you sign it, you are affirming that what you are submitting is true. (the old I-134 did have a place for notarization.) make sure you are working with the most current forms in all cases.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiona lil help please
i would add this:

1 long-form (meaning full) birth certificate + one copy
police certifcate + one copy

this may not work at your embassy, but in the UK they will take a copy of an original if you can show them the original. its good because you can keep those things on file and use them if you need them in the future

bonne chance, ma fille.
