Middle East and North AfricaI gotta say Thanks to you all
I have to say thanks to all of you MENA/ VJ'er.. I got a huge amount of PM's showing me support.. Thank you SOO MUCH for the support.. and the offer of a "shoulder"

I actually was surprised at the amount of people who say they are dealing with the same thing :(

I never really thought this would be life life once he got here :(

Nothing has gotten better.. maybe i guess worse. I'm on the verge of loosing my job.. I couldnt even go in today.. and I am calling out tomorrow too..

I finally cornered him to speak to a religious leader (imam).. and my out look towards our future in Not a good one... but God knows.. I DO love him... but I will NOT tolerate living how I have had to live these past 3 weeks :(

I got a few comments that I should be grateful that atleast my man is here... And believe me.. I was Very thankful things went as quickly as they did... BUT abusive behavior.. mental, emotional and physical will NOT be tolerated.. even if this is supposed to be an "adjusting period" of our life together/ getting used to living in america... ESPECIALLY infront of my VERY impressionable 5 and 6 year old boys....... my home is NOT supposed to be a war ground.. but my santuary.

for all of those who confided in me about what they are dealing with now... or what they feel might happen in the future..

Please think with your head and not your heart.. IF he is NOT even hear yet and MY story makes me nervous that this is your future... think LONG and hard BEFORE he comes into the country.. ESPECIALLY if you have kids...

anyways...

thanks everybody

Middle East and North AfricaHappy Monday
you sound exactly like me...

and yes... the k3 is B*ll Sh*t... i wish I didnt do it either.. it IS worth the extra time to wait for the EAD..

and the term R.T... is 100% accurate
I wish I could run away sad.gif

Waiting for an EAD has taken us 3 mos and at this point I'd rather be alone waiting. At least I'd have my house to myself and free time. I know that sounds horrible but I'm not equipped to be the sole bread winner forever. I'm starting to get REALLY resentful. I know I cried myself a long, deep river while waiting for Moh to get here. I feel kinda foolish looking back on it now. I love the guy but if he doesn't get that EAD soon and get his azz off the couch I'm gonna be taken away by the men in the white coats. We definitely have transportation issues where I live. Public transit sucks and he can't drive yet. The guy has been very patient but I believe his patience has just about ran out, mine too. Can grown ups run away from home?

Tip of the day....Do NOT file a K3, go for the CR1. K3 is a BS visa. Hindsight being 20/20, waiting an extra month or so and paying the extra $ for the CR1 is so worth it. Waiting on an EAD is BS!!!!! A wise woman once told me that importing a husband is like adopting a retarded (sorry for the word) toddler. OMG it's soooooooo true!

"Be careful what you wish for cuz you just might get it all, you just might get it all...and then some you don't want."

I think the grass is always greener, you know? I mean the extra month for the CR1 is spent apart from each other while the EAD is spent with each other. When you're on the other side waiting for him to come you can't bear to think of another month apart yet when you're with each other the frustration of waiting on that EAD is just killer.

Plus it seems like it's way more than just one month for the CR1. Seems like the security checks and AP are just about doubled when the CR1 is applied for. Just how I've seen it anyways.

Has he started volunteering anywhere to keep himself busy or is the transportation thing a big issue?

What if you observes some things within a religion and not others? Are you still considered "religious"? For example if you're Muslim....you don't pray regularly, have an occasional drink and do other things considered sinful but you fast during Ramadan, give to charity, don't eat pork, etc. Is that still considered "religious"?

Tomorrow when I pick the kids up in the morning we're off to IKEA for the first time. It's a little ways away (I think an hour and a half or something) from us but I've never been there and they look like they have such cool stuff just by looking at the website.

in Stoughton?? LOVE it! You're gonna have fun.

I was there a couple weekends ago... locked my keys in my car blush.gif (well actually my husband did mad.gif ). They have really fun stuff and a restaurant and a snack bar. It's like an adult playground. Be careful of the quality of stuff you buy.... I've bought some stuff that I love that has lasted for a long time and stuff that falls apart almost immediately. I have to go back and pick up some stuff to furnish our new place, but I'm waiting until after the Sept. 1st rush.. I made that mistake last year no0pb.gif .

doodle- i flew with alitalia in dec from beirut to toronto.....i had a 5hr layover, turned into a 6hr layover..it was dec tho. i made it safely. the bags took forever coming out in toronto tho. the planes indeed are old, and the seats and all that, and i didnt like the service...but the take off and landing were nice...good pilot i guess thats all that matters......and well a good plane lol..

i am flying Royal Jordanian again...i like them, the entertainment sucks, and i got sick on the food, but its a semi direct flight for me and the price was right. plus the airport in amman is smaller so i wont get lost lol. 7 more days til i leave!!!

are you seriously gonna have to wear abaya's / hijab out there??? your not even muslim. Is it really a requirement? (why does the spelling of that word not look right....)

Ive seen pictures with non covered woman in Saudi

Happy Tuesday...

I miss Ben & Jerry's Bovinity Divinity. It was my favorite :( I try not to eat ice cream much though, it's my vice. When I succumb, I go for sorbet. Haagen Dasz raspberry sorbet is really good. But it's not ice cream.

If anyone has read about my fly saga on OT, it's driving me BONKERS!!!! I don't understand how it's survived multiple spritzings with bleach, ammonia, and even EZ-Off-Bam :(

those damn NY flies are mutants of some kind!!! lol

ice cream is my vice too... i've learned to love non-fat versions, even splenda versions are not bad in a dire need for ice cream!
you should try the haagen daaz raspberry sorbet/vanilla yogurt swirl. its awesome!!!

MmmmmmmmmMMMMMM.. I have the most fantasic Haagen Daaz chocolate shake when I was in Amsterdam!!!!

I'm sure your Boston driving fit right in!!!! I swear you took 10 years off my life!!! lol :innocent:

So tell me again how Alitalia is safe and reliable..... :help:

hahaa.. well I have Never had a problem with alitalia.. the plane from italy to cairo was on the slightly older side.. but it was fine.. It seemed like every meal I had was the same - but then again.. I got a vegetarian meal. The first time home I was pulled aside with security and Grilled in Rome (so now I only fly out of Milan) they "detained" my bags and had to confiscate that big, bad box of chocolates my inlaws were sending for the kids.. the couple hour layover was prefect.. never a problem.. and getting a snack in Milan was EXCELLENT... the best cannoli's.. I WAS trying to save one for my mom on the way home.. but it seemed to disappear

Middle East and North Africaam i losing it or what??

That's understandable to not want to be limited especially during a short visit together.

Is it true you are not supposed to smoke during the day either? I heard that.

We smoked during our fasting time but we felt guilty about it even though it was allowed.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, good news: we quit smoking 4 days ago!!!! No more cigarettes. I don't think he will give up the hookah, but we will see.

thats great... Good luck with that for real..

Middle East and North Africaam i losing it or what??

Well, we were fasting for the Christian Eid (*i guess it's called. it was so many days for Christmas, so many days for Mary, and I can't remember what all else*) and the rules are basically don't eat anything that comes from life. No eggs, meat, fish, milk, cheese, etc. That sounds simple , but it's really boring. I mean, I usually only eat about 1 meal and one snack per day, so I pretty much go 12 hours without eating. But, the whole NO CHOCOLATE, NO CAPPUCCINO, NO CHEESE thing was killing me. We went to church during all of the big prayers and we had a big feast on Easter night - at midnight! Everyone was soooo tired of eating the same thing every day. It's tradition to stuff yourself like a turkey at the end of the fast.

Dee - No. We are not Muslim. I know the rules are different for Ramadan, that's why I wanted to know why it would be hard because I don't know what all you have to cut out.

allousa - I'm so sorry about the Rock. Really. I thought about changing it, but can't bring myself to do it. Especially not since doodle said she thought he was my husband! I feel obligated to him now. hehehe I've been floating ever since that day.

Is that a food or something?

anyhoo I have to make up like 7 or 8 days of fasting before it starts and ain't no way no how I can fast while in Egypt so I guess I should just get used to the heat.

Just curious, why can't you fast? Is it because you wanna enjoy the food while in Egypt?

No it's because I wanna have sex while I"m in Egypt.

Ok. I got it. So, during Ramadan you can't do it even after sundown?

no... you can do it after sun down... I just dont think Doodle wants any limits

The reason I ask is because we fasted here for 55 days before Easter and it was pretty boring but it was doable. Fasting for us was a little different. We could eat during the day, but the only things we ate were ful, tamaiya, koshary, potatoes, and eggplant. Of course we ate a lot of fruits and vegetables, but everything else was soooooo blah! Especially after 55 days!!! :crying:

The only thing I really missed was milk. Oh yeah, and I gained about 5 or 10 pounds from all the rice, macaroni, and potatoes.

you ate during the day??? Doesnt that go against FASTING??!!!

Middle East and North AfricaCairo embassy secrets/news

Well I don't know if this is necessarily a secret but I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention this before and we found this out from a reliable, inside source.

At the moment there are 300 Egyptian passports sitting in a completed cases pile waiting to be stamped with the visa. However... they are stamped 20 at a time. Yup, 20. The reason is because there is some sort of clearance issued and they give the "OK" which allows 20 passports to receive the visa.
Now I'm not sure how often this OK is given, if it's daily or maybe twice a day (doubt it) or once every 3 days, don't know...
But I do know that my fiance's passport is number 107 in this stack...
107 out of 300, guess it could always be worse.

Hmmm... if it's a daily 20 then that means about a week, +/- a couple of days... we shall see.

Hmm... and how'd you learn all this???

On my way here, I had a 6 hour layover in Amsterdam. I wanted so badly to go and explore even if it was for 1 hour. I mean, when was I gonna be in Amsterdam again? But he was terrified! Anything could happen and I would miss my flight, I would get lost, I would get mugged. hehehe So, I sat at the Computer station and talked to him on MSN for about an hour. Same ol same ol. But it made him feel better.

Good Luck! And, Friday the 13th is not unlucky! Our 8 month anniversary is today (tomorrow for u guys) and its a greaaaaaat day! Contrats Deema...I'm really happy for you...I too stressed until the moment I saw him coming off the concourse with my dad. Then I knew he was really here. Most of the guys coming from the middle east seem to tired for much more than a snack. Don't stress yourself out cooking. Just have something light and your banana bread and call it good. Enjoy your reunion and getting to know each other again. My husband has been here since Feb and I still look at him sometimes and think, wow, he's really in my kitchen or my car or ____.

I'm with you on the emoticons. I love them. I want to find a progam to download them into my email, as I can't stand to write without them. :P Especially the dancing yellow guy... I was known for posting him EVERYwhere at one time. I think the MENA girls gave me a total of 467 of them when my husband got his visa in hand...crazy women!!

At night I think.. what if you are standing at the gate.. and he never walks through the doors..
