Shoot... i'm sure most the people here are pissed I got my visa so quickly.. and it was a complete waste given my situation.

Hello All,

My 22 year old son always tells me I am living a "fairytale". What else can you call it? Well, fairytales have happy endings, don't they? As long as it is my fairytale, I might as well ask that this marriage lasts my lifetime so I don't have to even think about going through hell and back again.

But I have some questions for all of you. When you started your relationships, did you have any idea what the cultural differences would be like? Do you think after a lifetime of upbringing, it would be easy to discard learned ways (this goes for both of you)? Are you both willing to compromise? Did you ask alot of questions to understand what is expected of an Egyptian spouse? After asking, did you discuss the issues you had that were brought up? Did you explain what your expectations of him/her are? Did you ask what differences your loved one expected to see when he/she came here and then discuss them? Have the two of you discussed religion, sex and politics? ( This is a big one.) I know you are probably thinking I am looney tunes right now, and I am. AP does that to you. However, it has also given Ahmed amd I alot of time to talk about life and figure out what our strengths and weaknesses are.

Would I do it again? Well, I never thought I would do it this time. Go figure........

Sue

and you know what??? sometimes.. no matter HOW MUCH you talk about the future.. religion.. sex and politics.. no matter HOW MUCH TALK.. online.. on the phone... in person.. Sometimes even that doesnt prepare you for when you are face to face - actually living together.. Sometimes putting all those WORDS into action just doesnt happen..

you can talk til the cows comes home... But actually putting all that into action is the TRUE TEST.

"There is nothing in sharia that makes it haram for a Muslim woman to marry a kitabi man. That's why I felt free to do so myself, as are a growing number of Muslim women."

No matter how many times you point out that fact to Muslims they just close their ears to the facts and insist on following the ways of "their fathers".... its a sad state of affairs when culture and tradition have replaced the Quran in nearly all matters...and many many muslims dont care or bother to distinguish the difference between the two. sad.gif

I'm finding the same thing. The faith encourages thinking and reason, but dogma has taken over and Muslims refuse to think or question anything.Case in point: my wifes OB/GYN is Muslim, but she's not fasting during Ramadan and thus my wife says "she's not really Muslim". I pointed out to her that she has a very important job to do. She cannot risk being weak or faint at 6:00pm and have to deliver a baby, so it's an extreme hardship for her to fast. Thing is, I had just found the sura in the Koran that says if it's an extreme hardship for you to fast during Ramadan you can feed a poor person instead. But my wife refused to listen (probably cause she hates to be wrong).

And that's the crux of the problem. People don't want to learn they've "believed wrong" all this time, so they'll fight you tooth & nail regardless of whatever valid arguments you can find. Like fundy Xtians and the scientific theory of evolution. Evolution contradicts part of what they believe, so they'll fight it because they don't want to be wrong.

ACTUALLY i gotta say i agree with this.. I've been doing alot of soul searching lately when it comes to Islam.. AND this has been the top of my discussions with my muslim friends.. Now, i wont say EVERY muslim falls into this catagory.. BUT i find alot of Muslim Born from a forgien country fall into this catagory.

Alot of Muslims DO just go with the flow.. and I dont agree with that. I come from the Question Authority approach.. and I wanna know the sources and where things came from.. AND see logically why something was said i.e. date and time it was said

just think as to the First message that got relaid to the prophet saw.. Iqra ! to Read... be educated! but when do people question the sources??? When do people read and question the sources to the hadiths! to see if it even holds any water?

No because apparently it's illegal to sell Red Sox fabric if you're not the Red Sox and they don't sell any fabric. That's ok though...right now I don't want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooooooo fed up with this team. Year after year after year they get my hopes up and then crush them like a squishy grape!!!!!!

I did buy pretty fabric though but I have a feeling it's going to sit in my closet for a while. I tried making one of the hijabs out of the fabric but I found out that my hands hurt like crazy when I try to sew. My mom has a sewing machine that she never uses so I might snag it from her someday. I really want to take sewing classes too. I mean there are sooooo many clothes that I love that look easy enough to make but I just don't know how to do the right looking stitches.

I just back from the doctor and he is sending me for X-rays. He said I have an abnormal curviature of the spine. I was like WHAT????? I've never had any real problems with back pain. After he examined me, he said that my spine was definitely not normal. I do trust this doctor because half of our office goes to this guy. He did a complete adjustment and my neck and shoulders feel great, but the pain in my lower back is about the same.

I'm so very, very upset by this. I have had such good momentum working out in the gym and losing weight. I was about to drop a second size in clothes. I stepped on a toy of my little boy's a couple of weeks ago and really messed up my foot. It was the school bus that had these wooden pegs that people fit onto. Well I stepped on it full weight and then it slipped out from under me. I have really been limping with it and I'm sure not walking normally. Well, I added in a new machine yesterday that specifically targets the lower back. I did fine yesterday and early evening even after using the machine. But I watched a movie last night and laid on my tummy for a couple of hours. When I got up, I could barely walk and I couldn't bend over. Even after laying on my side all night, it wasn't any better this morning.

Jeez....I don't have time to be down in my back now. This freak'in SUCKS!!!!! crying.gif crying.gif

I used to work on Plenty of people that had a abnormal curviture in their spine.. a mild MS sorta thing. I'm assuming that this doctor was a Chiro.? given that you said he adjusted you?

Middle East and North AfricaQuestions?

Recently one of my friends suggested a different route for us. She is from Singapore and has had lots of friends who have married someone from overseas. I told her that Magi and I were planning on marrying in Jordan and then applying for the spouse visa. She recently had a friend marry a south korean woman in Korea and it took them a year to get her visa. Magi is from sudan, if it took a year for a woman to come from korea, a place we have good relations with, how much longer from Sudan?!

Anyway, my friend suggested something else. She has seen several of her friends bring their fiances over on tourist visas, marry and then file for a change of status. Any of you know of people doing that? Would you reccommend that as an option or steer completely clear of it.

The problem with getting a fiance visa is that we were physically together for such a short time and I happened to not have a still camera with me, only a video camera, and I was always behind it. That means that we have no pictures to show as evidence of a relationship to the embassy when applying for the fiance visa.

Any advice?

Well I think giving up my whole structure is going to be a big sacrafice. I've lived alone with my girls for 9 years so I'll have to:

1) think about cooking for an extra, more hungry person
2) not be sitting on the couch doing nothing at night anymore
3) not rip one when ever I want to anymore or burp the alphabet after a big diet coke

Stuff like that.

yeah.. ditto..
Last night I was sitting on the couch thinking about that...

last trip i actually burped Wicked loud infront of Mohamed.. He DIED laughing... tears were running down his face...

I think the biggest adjustments for me aren't cultural, just adjusting to married life. i have had to learn to COMPROMISE :o

yup... I agree

BEST MOVIE EVER! Its totally not for kids though. The guy that wrote it must have been totally high! I remember watching it as a kid and thinking where do I get those shrooms that make you get bigger??? laughing.gif

Totally! One of my favorite songs...

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell them a hookah smoking caterpillar has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small

When the men on the chess board
get up and tell you where to go
And you just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving slow
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "Off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said

Feed your head
Feed your head

i remember that movie too. and white rabbit by ja. or was it js by then? unsure.gif

this is funny cause my kids are watching this right Now ... I was surprised when he picked it too good.gif

Grrr.. now I found out the EAD check that WASNT supposed to cleared.. but DID.. put my account in a negative balance..

and i got myself all excited for lunch today sad.gif

now I am counting coins out of my bag and car to buy the 99 cent Peggy Lawton cookies at Walgreens

ranting33va.gif

wheres the bath tub and toaster when you need it sad.gif

You really should cancel the EAD like you said you had done. It's the bank's fault, not yours so you should let them deal with it and cancel your AOS checks.

I hope you can have it done!

Apparently the bank lady DID enter in the right check # for the AOS.. so that payment DID stop

And it's too late for EAD? They can't do anything? I'm sure you can call USCIS.

I thought you had to file all those cases together? Will they just send them all back since the check for AOS didn't clear? Can you even file for EAD without having a pending AOS case?

they were filed together.. but still two different paper works.. two different checks..

At this point.. i could care less if he applies for work papers... But I'm still not ready to continue with the AOS...

From what the USCIS told me 2 things can happen... they will accept the paperwork.. and mail me a paper requesting payment OR they will return the case to us and tell us to start all over again...

So I guess I am waiting to see what is going to happen... with my life/ husband AND the paperwork

I don't want to pry Dee, but do you want to give us an update? I'm really happy to see you posting again today. rose.gif It seems like you are giving him another shot but your posts indicate that your heart just isnt in it. I'm worried about you and please, please, keep posting. We all miss you around here. luv.gif

no really update.. and your right ... I'm giving him another shot and my heart is NOT in it sad.gif we have all these BS arguements.. example.. He looks in my phone and reads a text message from my GF saying "Would you marry someone for $20,000 bucks?" - First I'm pissed that he looked around in my phone.. Second he accused me of trying to go run off and marry someone for $... when the text wasnt even about me.. and it was just a stupid figurative question.. but It was something he fought about the whole night.. and it was HIM just NOT getting it

So i dont know... I'm in this Pause of BullSh*t... Essentially I just want him to "Knock it off".. Take a freaking chill pill.. (honestly.. a zanax in his dinner would be a good thing) .. get "Americanized"... I want the "old mohamed" BUT i dont know if I am gonna get it... I think this is it... This is just him

so I dont know... I am looking at this as.. me... stuck in a paddel boat.. with no ores.. seeing Where i am being taken by the chopf*ck water.. My guard is up... but I am just watching and waiting.....

who knows.. I know its stupid.. I'm a idiot.. but whatever

Oh Deema - that is such BS!!! If they caused your account balance to go into deficit, then they should NOT charge you ANY overdraft fees! What #######!!!!!!!!!! I would DEFINITELY call custome service and chew somebody's azz!!!!

Honestly my bank SUCKS...

I had a situation happen a few months... when the put a hold on a check.. which they didnt need to do.. then it set off this domino of payments bouncing.. I had SOOO many fee's over a hundred bucks... I went in to question about all of it.. they told me I "only" had to pay 1/2 the fee's.. I was SOOO Bull Sh*t.. and I told them.. NOTHING would of bounce if you didnt do XYZ!!! they just shrugged their shoulders and were like sorry....... diablo.gif

Which bank do you have? This sounds suspiciously like some ####### that was pulled on me not too long ago. I stuffed $400 in the bank, they backed it right back out, all my checks and autodrafts bounced, $33 a pop for each overdraft, etc. And worst of all my direct deposit was going in and dissapear to cover up the massive hole they created so I had no paycheck to live on! By the time I closed the account it was almost a grand in the red and all they would say is "You owe us money, we didnt do anything wrong"

*Sigh* I feel your pain honey. Banks are in the same devil league with USCIS, IMHO.

LOL
