US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI missed my K1 interview

I don't know how it goes there in Nigeria, but in Manila, they are more lenient..

If we miss our interview, it is very easy to reschedule for as long as it is the first time we are rescheduling..

Though I agree with apple21.. next time leave an hour earlier than you left the first time..

Good luck!

PhilippinesUSEM Interview Experience Nov 19, 2013 , Still have Tourist visa

Hello all. Honey Gina and I have our interview on Monday, November 25th. She is worrying over what to wear?? Ladies can you please advise - nice pants or nice conservative dress??? Any particular color?? I told her to wear a red, white & blue dress - God bless the USA (also colors of The Philippines flag). I'm trying to decide what to wear myself..... My shorts and tie-dye shirt, or my pink strapless dress......joking, hahaha. Wish us luck, and good luck to everyone else.

Hi! goodluck on your interview! I just wore closed shoes, jeans, a nice collared blouse and a casual blazer to keep me warm..

I think you need to be really comfortable that day.. Some wore dress and high heels. some wore jeans, I don't think it matters.. She just needs to wear her smile all the time :) - just like what they said above..

PhilippinesUSEM Interview Experience Nov 19, 2013 , Still have Tourist visa

Hi everyone!

I just finished my interview this morning, Nov 19 2013 at USEM Manila!

Just want everyone to know that there is nothing to worry about as long as you guys have a valid relationship..

They were all so nice and very approachable.

I arrived at the embassy more than an hour early, and the line for K1 visa applicants isn't very long.

The girl asked for the Ds 160 confirmation page, appointment letter and passport, and put the passport

in a ziplock. She stapled my ds160 with my appointement confirmation.

I got in right away.  Please do not bring any electronic device, you will be denied of entry..

After the checking of bags, you go straight to the ticket booth.

The ticket booth attendant took my appointment letter and gave me a number, and told me to go

through door 2 (bags will be checked again here, food and water not allowed, though i think you can bring in mints or candies)

instructed me to drop my appointment letter and ds160 at window 39 and wait for my number to be called.

(which never happened, because there were greeters who took them once you get inside)

then my number flashed on the screen.. 6082 at window 43.

windows 40-43 if i'm not mistaken are all for finger scanning.

He was an american and asked me to show my number.. I was giving it to him but apparently you'll be keeping your

number for the rest of the day.  first four fingers on the left over the scanner, then four fingers on the right,

and lastly 2 thumbs.. he told me to get seated again and wait for my number to flash on the screen.

It took so long before I saw my number, to go to window 57 - Filipino Consul -

who will check if your documents are complete..

- NSO birth certificate

- NSO Cenomar

- NBI Clearance - green form

- Receipt at BPI

and then the i-134 from your fiance and other supporting documents.

I gave him a bunch of papers which are the ff:

- i134 - signed and dated (taken)

- photocopy of all the pages of my fiance's passport (returned)

- form 1040 - 2012 only (taken)

- W2 - 2012 only (taken)

- 6 paystubs (returned)

- employment letter (returned)

-House insurance/mortage (returned)

- Bank statements with my fiance's name and acct number with bank letterhead (returned)

***This part is tricky, what is asked of you depends on the consul..

because when i was waiting for my number to flash,

I was close to window 50 and i could hear the filipina consul

ask for all these documents from the k1 applicants..

Someone was even asked for her school records and other IDs

which I do not have, so I kind of panicked.. but luckily, the filipino consul in  window 57

is very nice.. He just looked at the documents and just took a few..

In almost every window you are asked for your Name and Date of birth..

He was very friendly with me and chatted for a while because

he just came home from Jersey as well, so we talked about the place a lot

more than the visa application..

window 57 interview went something like this:

-Who is my petitioner

-Name of my petitioner

- where i met my fiance (i said high schoo)

- what school

- what does my fiance do

- where did he study

- Where in the States my fiance lives

- how many times ive been to US

- the longest period i have stayed in US

- asked for our pictures - he was happy to see places he's been to before in the east coast

    - i have arranged a collage of our pictures in 2 photo paper A4 size, with labels of the place and the date

some of it just the two of us, and a lot of it with my/his family and friends..

he then returned the pictures and said goodluck..

told me to sit down and the next step is interview with the american consul..

It was again 30mins after i saw my number flash on the screen, on window 62,

a middle aged american consul (woman) greeted me (she was very kind)

asked me to read the oath just beside the window and asked for my

four fingers on the right hand to be scanned again..

First she gave me a pamphlet about domestic violence, and asked me if i know what it meant..

She says if anyone in the household hurts me, i should call the police, and i shouldn't be afraid,

that no one is going to cancel my visa, and no one will force me to come back to the Phils.

Questions were kind of the same with the filipino consul

- How did we meet (high school)

- asked if we were high school sweethearts - NO

- when did we start dating

- when did he visit me

- how many times he visited me

- what was my purpose of travel to the US before

- how long did i stay in the US

- my fiance's occupation

- my occupation

- when did we last see each other

- what are the wedding plans - civil wedding

- are you going to have a church wedding

-have i met his family

- did his family meet my family - i said just his mom and my mom

She didn't even ask for anything, she had the photos from the i129f package

and that was what she was browsing, and then said, everything seems right

and told me my visa was approved.. and just go to the last window for instructions..

I can hear the other consul grill the applicant on window 64,

because she has just seen her fiance once,

the consul asked, How can you be so sure that you

want to marry this person if you've just seen him once..

(those who can relate need to be prepared with this question)

The last windows, 71 and 72, are calling all the applicants by batch..

if you aren't called alone, i think it's good news, because they don't

need you to drop an additional document..

I have chosen home delivery..

Hope everything goes well, and that no more administrative processing will take place..

My only concern though, they didn't take my old passport to cancel my tourist visa,

I thought they were going to cancel my B1/B2 visa which is still valid until 2022..

Hope it won't be a problem..

Thank you so much visa journey for all the instructions!!

I am so happy we are almost done and very close to being with my love..

I just hope all applicants would sign up here, quite a number of applicants

have incomplete documents and have irked some consuls with their lack of preparation..

Good luck to all who are going on their interview!!

Everything will be okay!! Pray and have a lot of faith!!

PhilippinesNBI Clearance Renewal

Hi!

Go to NBI taft,

there is a courtesy lane for pregnant women on the 1st floor..

No line over there smile.png

If you have any problems with picking up your nbi clearance (if it ever overlaps with your interview date)

you can ask the nice lady from 5th floor APDP and ask for help, so it can be released earlier..

Bec. for travel abroad (green form), it usually takes a week or two..

(from my own experience, it was an auto HIT, and they were making me wait for 2 weeks

which overlaps the date of my interview.. so went to APDP and the lady told me to come pick it up the following day)

Hi, I had my interview last Nov 19, and I am expecting the visa tomorrow..

It was on ready status since after the interview until morning of Nov 22,

and on the afternoon at about 3pm, it changed to ISSUED,

Later today, Nov 26, I received a text notifying me that my visa was ready for delivery..

PhilippinesHad my K1 interview but CEAC status is still "READY" for interview

don't worry, everything will be okay.. If they didn't ask you for more documents, then there is nothing that you need to do but wait..

I know it's frustrating.. But that is all you can do now.. :)

they are probably doing some verifications.. either on your case or the others before you..

I think they assign a number of applications to different persons to look into it..

and the person with your documents might have a lot of backlogs compared to others..

maybe this explains why others are updated faster than the lot..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsInterview completed, but deciding whether or not to hold visa...

Hi In love,

We are on the same boat, I am expecting my visa next week but I can't leave right away,

I have to make sure my work is at least fully turned over or finished before I leave, (planning to leave on Feb to have

the wedding on Feb 21st in NJ) that would mean I have to keep the packet for another 3 months..

which makes me crazy that I would have to worry about it every single day until I finally hand it over to the IO at POE..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNeed advice on safekeeping packet for about less than 3 months..

I just put mine in my concertina document folder with all my other stuff. It's basically the one thing I would grab if there wa sa fire and I needed to run out.

I wouldn't carry it with me when I travel, chances of it getting lost or damaged or higher the more it gets carried and handled.  If you feel your home may not be safe (not even o top of a book case, or wardrobe?), you could rent a safety deposit box in a bank?

thanks.. will definitely follow your advice (won't bring it with me all the time)..

on top of my wardrobe on the 2nd floor hopefully is safe enough..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNeed advice on safekeeping packet for about less than 3 months..

Hi again,

I don't have my packet yet but I am expecting it next week.. I just realized, having read a lot of topics here in VJ on handling their packets (torn/opened/lost packets), how the heck am i gonna be able to make sure my packet is safe for another 3 months!

should I call the embassy and ask them to keep it for another 2 months? Is it as fragile as other people say it is?

Getting paranoid now, as my job requires me to travel a lot.. what I'm thinking is to bring it wherever I go together with my CXR and the vaccination record.. I live in an area in Manila where it usually floods, and I'm worried if I leave it there, something might happen.. This is crazy.. I didn't expect to have it this early.. If i can just leave right away, but I can't..

Flood does not get inside our place, but after Typhoon Haiyan I have become super paranoid..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsTo those who's been here, Question?

Yeah I agree, ours was EAC- originally Vermont SC, but after a month and a half of NOA1, they transferred it to TSC, we didn't expect to be approved that fast.. If you don't get RFE's, it's just going to take a few months.. 3 months at the most..

- let me correct my post..

we filed at VSC on MAY 17, 2013

received our NOA1 on MAY 21, 2013

we were at Initial review for like forever,

then we got transferred to TSC on AUGUST 4, 2013

then we got approved AUGUST 20, 2013

It just took a while before it got to the US embassy in Manila..

so yeah.. TSC is really fast..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPassport was lost after our civil wedding in the US - need help

why to worry about the k-1 visa stamp?

it was invalidated at the POE

and it's yer I-94, downloaded from a website,

that governs your stay in the USA.

I think if you went into a SSA office with a copy of your passport AND the I-94,

is possible to apply and get a SSN.  Possible.   Depends on the clerk and if you bring the police report.

thank you.

I was thinking the same thing..

I may not need to get a new passport for the SS and AOS after all (hopefully)

We'll be getting the police report on the 6th, so we'll try and fix that when we get the report.

I was planning to just apply for a new passport to have my surname changed..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPassport was lost after our civil wedding in the US - need help

Hi guys,

I am not sure if this is the right topic to post this,

but I need advice on my lost passport..

I lost my purse with my passport in it after our civil wedding in the city hall in the US.

we filed for a police report already.

I'm just at a loss how we are going to do our next step..

We got our marriage license today, and I have yet to research for AOS

and application for SS..

I am pretty sure we do need the passport for those things..

I have a photocopy of my bio page and my visa, (but it's without the stamp at the immigration)

Are they going to give us a hard time for renewal?

Do i need to renew it now? Do we really need it for AOS? Thank you..

Hi guys!!

Just want to update everyone, we just got our NOA2 today!! Can you believe it?? My fiance has this grin on his face (i-told-you-so-look)

Cause I told him it was impossible that he didn't get it and it could have been lost somewhere bec. we already got the NVC..

Interview finished, Visa approved, and ceac says now it's issued (hope it will be delivered to my house soon) - and then NOA2 arrives..

Talk about snail mail..

Though I am very very thankful we don't have to spend 405$ for it..

You don't need the NOA2. They don't ask for it. The 1040 needs to come with his W-2s or they won't accept it, as anyone can fill out a fake one.

thanks.. i do have his most recent W-2s for 2012 and the form 1040.. Im just worried he left the "SIGN HERE" part blank at his 1040..  though as emmandenn says, it's probably okay.. been bugging him to sign it though just in case..

Hello!

Our interview is on the 19th as well smile.png

NOA2 is not on the list of documents to bring to interview but we read that it is needed for AOS. Did you just contact USCIS via phone or emailed them too?

http://photos.state....tober 2013_.pdf

maybe we'll see each other at the embassy :)

my appointment is at 7:30am..

we called USCIS via phone.. and one said it's okay not to have it as long as we have the NVC letter..

the other one didn't entertain us and said all our papers were already transferred to NVC so they can't

help us now..

That's really odd that you don't have the NOA2 and yet you have the NVC letter. It's usually the other way around. Regardless though the CO won't ask for any of the 2 (NVC or NOA2 letter). They will have a copy of it but if you have time you might want to ask USCIS where your letter of approval (NOA2) went.

With the 1040 it's ok if there is no signature since it was filed electronically. I presented a 1040 that was electronically filed also and no problem at all.

smile.png

hi and thanks for the response! i know right.. it is just too weird.. though maybe the noa2 got lost somewhere because we got approved while he was visiting me here in the Phils., though his siblings would've gotten it just like the notice of transfer and the nvc letter.. hope it won't be a bother, my fiancé just always tells me we would just face the problem when we get there.. so maybe we'll go and request it once we need it for AOS..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview is near without NOA2, and unsigned form 1040

Hi everyone,  I am new here, and I am very anxious about my upcoming interview on the 19th..

My fiance and I never recevied an NOA2, and i am worried the C.O. might ask for it..

We only received NVC letter stating that our petition has been approved, and our case number, and that we could schedule an appointment for interview and do the medical exam already.

We have been arguing about this for a long time, and he cannot get through USCIS, someone told him that it's okay as long as we have the NVC letter, and another one form USCIS did not entertain him because she said everything was transferred to NVC already.

Another one is his form 1040.. He said it was electronically prepared that's why there's no need for signature.

Does it need to be signed? I already have it with me, and it says SIGN HERE on the back, where he left it blank!

Please help! thank you!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSent in second I-129F

Ok so I'm a little confused on a few things,

1. How are they going to cash the check when I made it out to USCIS and not US DEPT OF HOMELAND SECURITY??

2. Could this really get approved? I had only the I-129F form, that means I was missing

  • G-325A and passport style photo (Petitioner)
  • G-325A and passport style photo (Beneficiary)
  • Birth certificate/US Passport (Petitioner)
  • Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner and Beneficiary)
  • Proof of having met in person in the past two years

Proof of ongoing relationship

For how much of a pain it is to get the initial approval (From what some users have said in past posts) how could mine even come close to getting approved. I will call them on Monday but I have also heard they sometimes do not even bother sending a RFE or responding back to you in cases like this.

Thanks for all the replies so far

They will probably send it back to you.. but still call just to clarify things..

gorjuzk8FemalePhilippines2013-11-30 21:49:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSent in second I-129F

Scenario no. 1

Hopefully they can fix it once they receive both petitions.. and automatically cancel the 1st one..

Scenario no. 2

If they don't cancel out the first one, AND you get approved, the embassy will detect it and will cause problems with your fiancee's interview.. They will probably delay her because of multiple petitions..

It'd be best you called USCIS to clear things out..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs there a limit to how much $ i can bring as k1 visa holder?

i'm glad you opened this up.. because i'm thinking about it too.. i'm planning to carry more than $10,000 when i go there but then "as what i knew" more than 10,000 will be taxed so i decided to just carry 9,000 and have my mom and dad carry the exceeding amount when they follow to the US to attend to our wedding.

hi! thanks!! yeah i thought about that too.. but my mom will surely bring money because going there she will buy a lot of stuff

she likes to shop.. and my dad won't be coming to the wedding, he doesn't want to travel far..

i think ill try the citibank option if my bank won't issue me like a check that I can bring or whichever is more convenient..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs there a limit to how much $ i can bring as k1 visa holder?

As others have stated, do a wire transfer. Do not carry that type of moeny with you.

Before you leave, go to the branch where you opened your account. Get to know the manager. Advise him you will be moving to the United States and will be opening a U.S. account upon your arrival here.

During the conversation, ask him / her what forms are required to initiate an international wire transfer. BE SURE to ask him / her if you can email or fax the forms to him / her. If he / she will not allow you to email or fax the forms, you may have to disgnate a power of attny for a freind / relative.

If you decide to travel with it, DO NOT even think about NOT declaring it. That is a serious NO NO.

If you carry it with you and DO NOT declare AND U.S. Customs discovers the funds. They ( U.S. Customs ) will seize all your funds. Then you will have to go through a process to get the funds back. This process takes about a year to complete.

Good luck.

Small word of advise, when you get to the U.S., set your bank account up where ONLY YOU have access to it and NOBODY else.

I know we would all LOVE to think that everything will go okay on our new path in life, but things happen. Read some of the stories here on VJ.

If after 1 year and everything is going good, then start to merge your accounts. The last thing you want to find out is all your funds have been depleted without your knowledge.

Now before anyone comes on here and starts to blast me for that last statement, that is advise from my late grandmother. She always told me " son, when you get married, you wait 2 years before any major decisions i.e. house buying, car buying, merging accounts, starting a family"

Thank you for the advice, I never even thought about that.. I was even thinking to put my money on a savings acct with atm, so i could withdraw the pesos in dollars in the US.. but I'm not sure about the rates.. But going to the bank and speaking to the manager is a better option..

I was laughing reading the last part.. but thank you for that.. my mom always told me that I should always have my own money and not tell my husband about it.. LOL.. i always thought that was funny.. My fiance and I are very close and I kind of already have money mixed in with his about the same money I am bringing,

amount of debt from his friends who are over there in the US who have borrowed pesos when they were here and they paid him in dollars..  so i guess it's  a little too late for that.. but he told me he is never touching my money.. it's ok though.. money is the last thing we should argue about..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs there a limit to how much $ i can bring as k1 visa holder?

I believe that there is a limit...$10,000 cash that you can carry with you.  When we entered Detroit, I was asked how much cash do I have with me.  It was below the limit but the officer did not ask to see it.

What I read here previously, one woman opened a dollar account with Citibank locally and then she just maintained the account in the US.  She could withdraw the money from there.

Hope that helps.  All the best.

Jessica

Hi thanks!! that is actually a good idea.. I will inquire right away, there should be a citibank somewhere in Jersey City.. Hopefully..

You are permitted to bring any amount, yet you need to declare the amount if it is greater than $10,000.  As to your question whether this will be enough - that all depends upon where you live and how much you spend.  Your provide suggests the NYC area, which is expensive.

Build a household budget with your fiancé and you have your answer.

Hi JRF,  thanks so much.. My fiance is a nurse which is good for us, but you are right, it is pretty expensive living there..

Everytime I went to visit I spend a lot for food and shopping when I am out with friends.. But everything is going to change from here on in..

thanks again..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs there a limit to how much $ i can bring as k1 visa holder?

Hi again guys,

I am so sorry, I cannot find to what topic I should post this,

I would like to know how much money I can bring in to the US,

Can i bring all my savings over there? and if i declare it, would i be taxed?

I was planning to bring more than 20,000$ if they will allow it,

The thing is i don't like asking for money, and not used to that,

as I believe I won't be able to work until after a permit has been given,

and I doubt I will be able to find the job that I like right away..

Will this be enough for a year?  I am so uncomfortable without savings,

and I don't think 10,000 will fit..

My spouse is a Pakistani citizen but has been living in Saudi Arabia since childhood. I undertand that we need to get a police certificate made from Saudi Arabia but I'm not sure how to go about it. Can somebody help me out and let me know what the procedure is to get a police certificate in Saudi Arabia? Thank you!

How long does it take to show the invoice and how will I get DS 261?

Next step is to complete DS-261 form and the AOS fee when the invoice is available.

Beneficiary ID is used for DS-260 form.

I am preparing my AOS package. Am i missing something ?

Barcode sheet.

2013, 2012 and 2011 Return Transcript

Letter from Employer

Past 3 months pay stubs.

Anything else ?

As the error states, there can't be any gaps. So, all dates have to be back-to-back.

For example, this would be wrong:

06/2012 - 03/2014

05/2000 - 04/2012

There's a gap from the first from date and the to date in the second address.

It should be (using the same example):

06/2012 - 03/2014

05/2000 - 06/2012

No more gap! 06/2012 is back-to-back with 06/2012.

Thank you so much for replying.

But here's the problem, I understand everything you explained however its still giving me the error and since it might be easier to understand the problem with a screenshot I have attached them to give you a little bit of an idea. I have been living at my present address since I was three years old (Jan 1992) but I left for my college education from Nov 2006 to March 2012 so those dates are confirmed. I don't understand where exactly there is a gap of more than a month.

Hey Saylin /guys.

I've run into a problem and I hope you all can help me. I was filling out DS260 and under the present and previous addresses section it asks "From date". I'm not too sure what exactly its asking about and after I finish the section it gives an error saying "There is a gap greater than a month in the dates you have provided. Please include ALL addresses where you have lived since the date you turned 16 years old. The National Visa Center may ask for additional information regarding gaps in residency, which will result in a delay in scheduling your visa interview" . Is this error because of the P.O. Box address I provided as the present address. (the mailing system in Saudi Arabia is such that only P.O. Boxes are provided in place of actual mailing addresses).
