Thanks rocketman n NLR. I have photocopy my entire passport. I once contacted a lawyer n he told me that I need to send in my husband's passport as well n his birth certificate, he's the beneficiary.

Shama786, so your I-130 hasn't approved yet ? I don't know long mine will take. I know tax returns n affidavit of support becomes a problem when applying for spouse. I've also been trying to find a joint sponsor since my hubby isn't allowing me to go back n work. Plus it won't really matter cuz they will use last year's tax return. Anyways, I hope ur petition gets approve soon :) inshallah n best of luck

Most likely they are holding everything for us to have to pay the new fees. They reviewed my ds261 last friday and they told me that I should get the IV invoice any day. Nothing yet.

Like people who already had paid we still have to pay whatever we owe them at the interview!!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsnoa2 received i129f approval
I guess they liked how neat i put everything and thus the fast processing they actually Only had the file about 55 days total. I added the extra passport pages to just avoid any slight possibility of an rfe because i read too many rfes regarding request for passport copies. Why take the chance of a month delay on an rfe? Thanks again just sharing my personal experience im glad i should spend the holidays with my soon to be wife.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsInterview done...Neither denied nor approved

Thank you so much for the detailed review and Congrats!!

For my DS-156, I filled it online and barcode was being generated and I just printed out 2 copies and signed off with blue pen.

Not sure if it will be accepted. sad.png

So nervous and stressed out!

Thank you once again for the review!

My appointment was at 1:30pm.  I came early at about 12:45pm only to be told to wait at the visitor's waiting shed.  There was a Filipina who was first in the line.  I was the second one.

At 1:25pm, we were called by the security guard to come in.  He said he only needed the first 5 people in line.  I think we were no more than 10 people in line.  So we went in, one by one, through the security check.  You have to turn off your handphone and surrender it together with iPad etc.  We were able to bring our bags with us. They gave me a number tag in exchange.  There's a walkway before entering the main building.  Upon entering, the room is  on the left and take a queue number from Immigration button.  The security guard said press the Non-Immigration button, but the Immigration button clearly states that the K visas are under the Immigration button.  So take a queue number from the Immigration button.

Picture a counter with many windows.  You know, the one like when you buy tickets to a movie or to the zoo.  Interview was going to be conducted over the counter.  And the people who are waiting are seated behind you.  Practice talking with confidence regardless of the many people who by nature and physical circumstances will eavesdrop on your conversation.

Immigration Window:

Officer will ask and check your documents.

1.    Appointment letter

2.    Passport

3.    NRIC or S-Pass/E-Pass for verification

4.    Receipt of Payment of visa at Standard Chartered (I made a copy because we have to surrender the original receipt to them.)

*Make a copy and keep it on file.

5.    DS 156.

*Even if they need 2 copies, fill out the second one as well.  Do not make a copy of the first one.  He doubted my penmanship and said I made copies.  A sarcastic remark was thrown my way but then again, I bounced back with a correct answer.  I said the form may be copies, (I kept the originals intact just in case I made a mistake and photocopied the blank forms), but I filled out both of them.  And it ended with a "You're right" from him.

*If  a sarcastic remark is said to you, answer calmly and confidently.

6.    DS 156 K

7.    4 passport photos that comply with US requirements.  I got mine from  at  Soo Kee Color at Plaza Singapura Basement 2 for $21.  Remember all photos should be the same.

8.    Birth certificate.  (A copy would suffice but I gave him an original.)

9.    Police Certificate Singapore (I gave him the original but I made copies for my file.)

10. Police Certificate Philippines (NBI Clearance).  (Our NBI clearance has a 1 year validity. Mine was expiring on the 18th of June. They want a more recent one--one that will not expire in 6 months.)

11. CENOMAR Philippines (I forgot to ask him if he received it.  However, he did not say that he didn't receive it yet.  So he has it on file already.)

12. 1-134 with fiance's ITR 2012 and supporting documents like bank statements, employment certificate etc. (My fiance receives disability income so I needed copies of those.)

13. My Fiance's divorce decrees that are court certified copies.  (He checked my copies but said that I would need court certified copies.)  This was not on the list but he looked for them.

14. YOUR bank statements and statement of assets just in case.  (I didn't have mine but thankfully, the consul never asked.)

15. Evidence of On-going Relationship:  Do not give what your fiance filed earlier because they have that already.  I gave my birthday card, a bill of lading, a receipt of an engagement ring.  Another example, the lady before me gave 4 recent photos of their trips together AFTER filing the I-129F.

*Make sure you have enough evidence of on-going relationship.  I didn't know how to download Skype chats and log so I didn't bring that.  Think:  emails, photos of trips together, love letters, etc. that you received AFTER filing the I-129F.

He gave me back my X-ray and asked me to sit down and wait for my name to be called.

16. Have you been issued a US visa?  Yes, tourist visa.

17. Have you been to the US?  Yes.

18. Have you been refused a US visa?  Yes.

19. Even if you have pending documents, he will reassure you that you will still have your interview.  The officer will give you a list of documents to send back to the embassy.

Consul officer

I was holding a pen and a put in front of me a piece of paper so I could take down notes.  What I forgot though was to take his name!  I only read Christopher.

*Write this question on top:  What can I tell my fiance about my interview today? on your piece of paper.

*Copy his name on your piece of paper.  I regret not copying his name.  I only read Christopher.  If you can help me get his name, that would be great.

1.    He will give you a piece of paper to read.  It contains the information for your application.  Just make sure the info is correct.  I had to recheck my passport information, fiance's phone numbers because I don't know them by heart.

*Put the necessary information:  your passport number, date of issue, place of issue, expiry date, your fiance's name, his address, his phone numbers, his birthday (well you should know that one) on that piece of paper so that you can easily refer to it.

2.    He will give you the DS156K to sign in front of him.

*Remember his name is on that paper.  Copy it on your piece of paper.

3.    He took my fingerprints on the hi-tech thingy.  Listen to his instructions.

Questions:

1.    What is your fiance's name?

2.    How did you meet?

3.    Tell me how did you come to this decision (to be engaged) in so short a time?  Go ahead do your best.

*Describe how you met.  Point out your fiance's good traits.  What made you decide to marry him?

4.    What does he do for a living?

·         While answering his questions, I noticed my body language.  I began to slouch forward to hear him through the window.  I straightened up and answered questions while maintaining eye contact.

·         My lady friend before me said she had to wear heels today because the counter top was high and she wanted to look tall for the interview.  I suggest those who are vertically-challenged to do the same.

·         Don't volunteer information.  Just answer the question and wait for him to ask you to explain.  Sometimes, I found myself giving unnecessary information.

Because I had lacking documents, he gave me a sheet that says under Section 221 (g), so and so, you are ineligible for a visa...and then it has the documents that I need to submit.

He kept on saying "Okay, we're done." But did not say anything if my visa was approved or not.

He asked me to register at their courier's website as soon as I got home.  Those were specific instructions.  And then to send the lacking papers through the courier.  He would review it and then ask for my passport to be sent.  I would need to send it through the courier as well.

I read the question on the top of my paper and quickly asked, "What can I tell my fiance about my interview today?"

He told me the status of my case (confidential) and that he will wait for my pending documents.

I thanked him.  Walked outside the building.  Looked up at the American flag and then the sky and said "Thank you, God!"

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa for someone who lived illegally in country
Thank you everyone for your prompt responses. That is correct she left the country voluntarily after she found out she could not continue her education here. She has been living in mexico for 4 years now. Is it a bad idea to say she was never here; she has no criminal records here. I know it is always a bad choice to lie but we really want to be together...

My fiance was brought to this country illegally when she was a child. She found out she was illegal when she turned 19 and tried to go to college, she then moved back to Mexico to continue her education. Can we apply for a K1 visa or the fact that she was here before illegally prevents us from doing so?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsinterview approved..airline ticket now

WHAT if i bought a ticket for him????????? :S first time that i have everrrrrrr heard dat they check credit cards or copies of it haha...the ticket has to be on his name?? :/ dnno why wld they do dat ... did anyone have this experience

Hi
Just to say that I book my flights and get the ticket by email. I then print this out and show it at the flight desk. They give me the boarding pass with no problems.
Anyone can buy a ticket this way as you can just forward the e-ticket for your fiancee/fiance to print.
Also it's a lot cheaper to buy a return ticket, usually quite a lot too. If your partner doesn't use the return the airline will usually sell or swap the seat to someone else.
I hope this helps
Dave :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGot noa2 today

Words can't say how happy and blessed I feel. Today the USCIS website said the noa2 is approved and the letter will be coming in the mail.

I know its still along journey left to go but does anyone have any sugestions how long the wait might be from here? Will the medical exam and interview be coming up fairly soon now?

Wow I am stoked my heart goes out to all that are waiting :)

Congrats :)
As soon as you have your new case number you should book your medical. You have to make that. The results of the medical are then sent to the embassy within 1 week and then the embassy send you an appointment. But before they do, they will send you a letter with a link to the forms you need to fill in.
Good luck
Dave :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat next after coming to the Us on a K-1 visa?

My fiancee arrived in the US yesterday, yay!!!, and we are so happy. So as part of the next steps,
- Is there a list of things that need to be done to get her GC?
- Additionally, is there a list of things we need to do such as "apply for SS card", get driver's license, etc, etc?
- Lastly, do I need an attorney to help with the above process, or can I do all of this on my own?

Thanks

Is the location in which your K-1 is processed determined by the state you live in? I assume mine will be sent to California as my fiance lives in Colorado? Has anyone from California (for example) had their application processed in Vermont?

You are right.I live in Colorado and due to geographical location it was sent to CA.It will be 5 months on monday and I am not expecting it at least for another month or so.looking at those who have a similar timeline to mine it looks like I have another month to go.

Just take what you have. Its not like you can do anything about not having the 2011 transcripts anyway. If you have her w-2 for 2011 and maybe her pay stubs take those and maybe explain her tax situation if they ask at the interview. They will see from your previous transcripts when you file and hopefully they will understand that it takes time for all the documents together. Also once you file and its approved it doesnt take long before you get the transcripts. It took me 2 weeks to get my taxes approved and get the refund.in another week or so I should get the transcripts so I would say overall about a month after you file so long as its been accepted by the feds.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsghana consulate is incompetent

Political Rant?? Go back and READ some of the comments!

"They have no respect for Ghanaians and they can treat them anyway they like"

or

"That embassy was built with funds derived from the sweat and toil of Ghanians, no federal funds went to building that embassy"

Hmmm, and WHOM is making a political rant?? There were also a few comments denigrating US Dept of State personnel, and how poorly the US Government treats the Ghanian people.

I am a US Federal Employee and have worked extensively with the Department of State. They are extremely professional and hard working. Yes, there is the occasional rude employee, but that happens in all walks of life and does not represent the vast majority of DoS personnel. As far as "caring" - US Embassies and their personnel are actively involved in many countries (including Ghana) promoting health, education, welfare issues to improve the lives of the people of the host nation. Additionally, the US Government provides MILLIONS of Dollars in direct aid to Ghana and other neighboring countries.

Yes, I do have an interest when people bad mouth my federal co-workers who are not here to defend themselves. If you want to provide immigration advice, fine, but don't throw out unsubstantiated insults and make false and inflammatory statements about the US Dept of State and the US government. If one wants to RECEIVE respect one should begin by SHOWING respect.

You may be missing the point here.My beef is with how people at the Consular section of the US embassy treat Ghanians when they go in to apply for visas.Have you ever been there to apply for a visa, or do you know anyone who has been there?MY mother has applied for a visa there and I know several people who have applied for visas there.Over 80% of the experiences have been negative.I have also read reviews on this portal from people who have actually been there. The respect thing is true. The way people are treated at the Ghana consulate is not the same way people are treated here in the US.Take some time and read some of the reviews here and you will know what I mean.
You have not worked at the Ghana Consulate and you have not applied for a visa there so how would you know whether people are respected when they go through that process or not?Just because you worked at the State Department doesnt mean you know what goes on at the US embassy in Ghana. You make it sound as if every federal office or every federal employeeare the same.I can assure you that they are not. Look at these reviews of the US consulate in Ghana and see if you revise your opinion on whther there is respect for Ghanaians who apply for visas there.I am not saying every experience at the US embassy is a bad one but there are too many unpleasant ones.

keyshawn18MaleGhana2012-02-27 14:19:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsghana consulate is incompetent
As much as I will like to say that things will improve, i know it will not.It boils down to one thing. They have no respect for Ghanaians and they can treat them anyway they like.To treat applicants like prisoners by having a glass in front of them and having people wait for hours on end is unacceptable. When you go to USCIS buildings here it is not like that. When you go for an interview you sit in a room face to face with a person, yet in Ghana people stand for hours on end with no results and are told to come the next time around.Even here at the DMV anyone who is inside the offices by 4:30 pm or closing time will be served, even if it takes 8 hrs.
Bottom line. That embassy was built with funds derived from the sweat and toil of Ghanians, no federal funds went to building that embassy. You would think that they would treat Ghanianas with more respect. Not even a media blitz or campaign to criticize the consulate will have any impact.Sad to say but it is what it is.
