The kid problem comes up here time and time again. Honestly I can't understand how people commit to marriage and file for a visa if they haven't decided or been able to agree on so many things. For us it was very important to talk about everything and make sure we weren't going to have any bumps in the road about children. We both want kids and both want to wait several years and are both very happy that we talked about those things and agreed before he got here. It's hard for me to imagine a man from MENA who doesn't want children since family is so important in those countries. When a man says they don't want kids (which is usually when the women already has some and is too old to have more) I think that is a big red flag.

Yeah I know. Everything was settled before marriage. Then I joined VJ after reading this 56 page thread in response to this ladies gut wrenching long post about MENA men and their attitudes and how he done her wrong after them being together for five years and he marries a local. I confronted my Husband on some of the issues and maybe didn't manage it well. It was our first real fight and realization we may not stay together. He told me to call off the visas and if I wanted a divorce he'd proceed. Even a month or so after that he's not sure about kids. I don't blame him because even I'm not. It brings a whole other wealth of issues. We're over coming the argument though. It takes time.

This thread is quite interesting - although i used to say that Micho and I have talked about everything I knwo there will definately be adjustments for both of us - I have lived alone and independently for 6 years - i was 18 when i left my parents house - he appreciates that i am independent and looks forward to learning from me. But there will definately pebbles in our journey...

I have come to realize that this thread seems to lean towards and excuse me if i am not beign politically correct - but it seems to lean towards relationships where one part is of muslim religion. Both Micho and I are Christians - as are many arabs and the branding thats being put on Arab Men seem to be characteristics of Muslim men - and for the most part is stereotypical. Just because you have experience with 1 arab man doesn't mean you know them all. Mine for example doesn't mind shorts and sleeveless but was very weary about kissing me in front of his 18 yr old cousin bc of respect for me. (no criticism intended on the shorts just trying to use on of the forums examples) But I also have a good friend who's married to an Egyptian man who's pretty much not allowed to leave the house unless its with him. And this is a man who took her to parties and the beach and day trips while they were engaged - she's lucky if he sets aside an hour for grocery shopping. Everyone's different.

Anyways - just thought i'd give my two cents. Have a good nite!

QUOTE (Carolyn @ Aug 9 2007, 02:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Last summer when we came back from Morocco we were able to bring back EVERYTHING, including lots of food (homemade cookies, maybe 4 kilos of olives, some preserved lemons, harissa, even some clarified butter/ghee/I can't think of the Arabic name for it).

This spring, however, immigration threw away ALL of Simo's food--even his mother's homemade cookies!

What was the difference? Last summer I put the stuff in MY bags (not Simo's)--I did have to beg, but the JFK security people seemed to respond well to a white American woman.

This spring, Simo was by himself. He was held in immigration for several hours and they repeatedly interviewed him in a not-so-nice way. Then the guy spitefully threw away all of his food items. He went through US immigration at the Toronto airport--I'm not sure why they were so rude (maybe they were bored?), but he almost missed his plane, they didn't get his luggage onto his flight, and he arrived home a frazzled mess.

My conclusion: pack any food items in your checked luggage, but don't pack anything that might upset you if they confiscate it at customs or immigration.

Bon voyage!

I realize its a different country but I just came back from Syria in June - and my uncle and his family just came back on Sunday - for a total of 17 suit cases for 7 people (not including carry -ons and all well over the 50lb weight limit). You can bring just about anything that was not live at one point - is how the people at the airport explained. We brought back tons and tons of olives, olive oil, arak, sweets, figs in many many styles, cheese, la vech carre cheese, herbs and spices, candy, nuts of all kinds, halawe, teas, coffee etc etc etc. The key is packing. Things that come from a manufacturer or are packaged from a store - as long as they are closed are allowed in your carryon. The other stuff - in your suit cases and securing them is key. Of all the things we brought back all that broke was my bottle of perfume!! even the olives smelled of versacci!!

Although all this being said I already warned my family that my fiance will not be bringing anything with him so he does not get hassled at customs!!
Good luck and Mabrook.

Inshallah allah b haneekun!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHELP! Lost receipt for delivery and check not cashed yet

HELP !! Lost receipt for certified delivery and check not cashed yet. I mailed my I-129F on July 28,2007 and missplaced the confirmation receipt  ...... I have been very careful with everything but some how lost the comfirmation :crying: and now can not verify if recived by the Vermont Service Center. I'm worried because I maild package on last date before the new fees take affect and MY CHECK HAS NOT BEEN CASHED YET.....I view time lines and see most checks are cashed in a 10 day period. Could something have gone wrong??????? I hope that they dont send back my package due to something missing or incorrect. I triple checked everything. I have not recived the package back as of yet but getting very worried. Thinking due to last minuet filer trying to beat the new fees may have cause a delay in processing...you think so.....Any one else waiting for check to be cashed with no word fr the VSC location????? I live in TX so I know I sent to correct place. Thanks

Hey there - I am in the absolute same boat as you are in. I too mailed mine out on July 28 and sent to Vermont and have yet to hear anything. I however sent a money order and not a personal check so i have no idea if it was cashed. Keep your chin up - I know its hard - trust me I am seeing all the same things you are. Checks cashed in 10 days - NOA1's in 2-3 weeks. And yet we have nothing. I didn't take into consideration all the people who would be sending in at the end of the month to beat the fee increase. Shoulda thought about that i guess!!!

Keep your head up!!

I GOT MY RECEIPT TODAY!!!! ALSO LOGGED INTO THE USCIS WEBSITE AND REGISTERED THERE....WHAT A RELIEF!!!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew to the Forum - New to it all Actually
Ok! Here goes!

First of all, thank you in advance to anyone who will read this and offer their input and support. It is GREATLY appreciated.

I met my Fiance (Micho) 7 months ago thru mutual friends/family who thought we'd get along - we ended up realizing we were meant to be together and couldn't wait to meet each other. We spent months on the phone and internet learning, laughing, loving. We both decided we needed some time together and couldn't wait to meet each other any longer, so I planned a trip with my family to Syria. We met, our families met, and instantly formed a bond. Not long after I reached Syria did we know we were meant to be. Having known about the K-1 process, although very little, we decided to get engaged and pursue the K-1 once I got back into the states. Let me clarify a bit - he and I had spoken of the possibilities and I started looking into the ways he could come into the US and the K-1 seemed to be it. I started researching and downloading files and filling out paperwork, making copies, highlighting phone records etc etc etc. I only wish I had found this site in the weeks I spent doing all of that.

I now realize that as organized as I thought I was, I am not. I don't seem to really be anywhere close. I should add that the day after we came back to the US we found out that my mom was no longer in remission from the cancer that broke her down years ago and is now undergoing extremely intensive chemotherapy. I need him here and by my side, not to mention want him here :D and this now seems waaay to overwhelming for me. I'm pretty sure I have all the paperwork I need put together just need the patience to sit and sort through it all. I am waiting on 2 papers I needed from him: 1. the paper from the church we were engaged in - stating we were engaged in the church 2. his criminal background check.

I have a ton of questions, although not sure where to start.
1. I was discouraged when I saw that syria was not listed in the statistics page under the countries.
2. Assuming all is submitted properly, whats the avg time from a middle east country.
3. Does every form/paper have to be translated in both languages
4. when providing phone records should they be from both sides (I ask bc as of today's date he has only received our first months bill - the billing cycles are strange over there)
5. Is it true I should have 3 original packages prepared?
6. What are NOA's i think you call them?
7. HELP!!!

Lets start there. I'm sure there will be more

Did you also send a letter explaining that a mistake was made on the first submission and that the new submission was made on the advice of a lawyer. Perhaps it might be worth adding such a statement/explanation and getting that notarised as well as resubmitting the proofs of a clean record.

Thats exactly what i was thinking - maybe they just need an explanation as to why it was done twice and with different answers. Resubmit everything you did last time - although i would get everything as of todays date - just to cover yourself in case they come back and say well these reports aren't current enough.

I have a friend of mine who's going through the deportation process off of a k1 - long story short his fiance the USC screwed him royaly - but ne way - he gets letter after letter from uscis and once you weed through all the fluff - there's only a few key lines in the letter. Try and figure out whats real and whats fluff - what are they really accusing you of and what are they really asking for.

And I agree with everyone else. You got a RFE not a denial. Keep your head up and stay strong - I know i've not been waiting nearly as long as you have but when Micho and I get down and just can't take it and we're at each others necks about little things. I laugh and tell him - u know if we get through this time right now - we can make it through anything once we're finally together. Keep your head up.

QUOTE (ms_jinga_lala @ Aug 11 2009, 09:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I submitted my case and it was accepted on May 8, 2009. It's not showing in the systems yet and I have to get my calls escalated to find out anything. Today I called to follow up and they said I had another 5-6 months before I would hear anything from them. That's a really long long time since it's already been in the system for 3 months. Does it sometimes take that long? How hopeful should I be that it could take less time than that?

Thanks in advance!

don't worry man.
your turn will come sometimes around october. i received my NOA 1 on march 6th and NOA 2 on July 30 from vermonth service center.
just relax and enjoy the wait, i know it sucks but hey everyone's gotta wait.

You only need to send in one copy of I-129F.
you need to send it 4 copies of G-325A biographic information for both you and your fiancee.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIncome requirements list?

thanks!

Now for a little more info and possibly ways to get around this:

I am a U.S. citizen. I moved to Canada to live with my husband in late 2005. The Canadian immigration was sent in 1.5 years ago and they haven't even started processing yet, so I am in the process of looking for a job in the U.S. I will move back to the U.S. and sponsor my husband for PR from there and we plan on living permanently in the U.S. Since Canada doesn't allow me to work while my application is pending, I had 0 income for 2006, 0 so far in 2007. I worked full time in 2005 and prior years in the U.S., so the income requirement seems to be my big issue at the moment. Any light someone can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

hey there - i don't know where you are in the us or even if the requirement is different from state to state but i do know that in Pennsylvania it is $15,000 - they ask for bank/checking records and pay stubs etc. Not sure what your ways around it are - maybe get a relative to sponsor that part of it - i know many people here who have done that.

Good Luck!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfiling K3 before marriage

USCIS has not focused on catering to the whim and convenience of US Citizens but has provided a fiance(e) visa option and two marriage visa options. Take your choice. You asked a question and got an answer. It's a fact, not a spouse. The answer is not going to change because you complained about it.

Well put!

We should all be glad that there is an option for our fiances/husbands/families/children to be with us in the states. Whether your waiting 6 months or 6 years - in the end its all worth waiting for.

I agree - No matter what stage your in its difficult. You could be that person who just filed a week ago realizing just how long the wait is going to be... the filer who's days away and can feel it but can't seem to touch it - or be touched for that matter! And from what i can see even those who are "done" and have their NOA2's find it difficult to watch people they've grown close to suffering. And don't forget those people in the middle who can no longer feel like they've jsut started or if they're almost there! IT's an all around hard process no matter what stage of the game your in.

BTW..... Mirla - I can't seem to take your angry or upset posts seriously - i look at that pic and think she can't be upset look at that smile! haha - keep your head up!

Ok here we go...

JFK - Damascus 12feb- 04mar is coming out at about $933 a person (and that was for 3 people, with a stop in Amman)

JFK-CVG 23DEC - 26DEC is coming out at about $320. If you want to fly Xmas Eve, it gets in about 7pm and it's $300

Nothing is cheap around Christmas sad.gif sad.gif

Thank you soo much - that one in feb looks good - the one in dec - 300 isn't bad - its the fact that its only for 3 days.. The flight to Syria - with the 3 hours from allentown to jfk and then the 3 hours from damascus to amar - i wouldn't have time to unpack - i'd get there in time to say hello to my grandparents - give him a quick kiss and be heading back to the airport!!

But thanks again!

I found a flight to Milan for the exact dates for $617, with a stop in London. I don't know if there is any way you could fly on days that aren't weekends, but as mentioned by others before, it's usually cheaper.

For Cairo, I found $880 on Alitalia with a stop in Milan. On British Airways, with a stop in London it's $982. On Egypt Air, nonstop from JFK, it's $823

Anyone else?!

I'll take 3 tickets - first class if possible to Syria - not on Austria air if possible - leaving anytime from the end of jan to mid feb and coming back 3-4 weeks later.

Thanks! smile.gif

Philadelphia to Damascus (I put philly because i saw you were from PA, is anything else closer?) I wasn't able to come up with first class, but for 12 Feb - 04 Mar, it's about $1,264 with a stop in London.

Congrats!!

Please remember that we submitted a request for a "Military Expedite" last week which is why we were approved so quickly. We sincerely hope that the rest of the July Filers won't Have to wait much longer.

ohmy.gif JULY, what about all the earlier filers??

Haha - being a July filer myself i said AMEN! to that comment - but in the back of my mind i knew there are alot more may's and june's ahead of july! Hopefully we all get approved quickly.

Just a side note.... We called Congressman Dent's office to see what if anything they can do to help petitioners in this situation. I got a little office rat on the phone who actually had to have me sit there and explain to him exactly what a K-1 visa was. He then proceeded to make an appointment with me, took my Receipt number and asked me to bring all of my documentation in with me to the appointment. I got super excited - then he said i'm going to look something up (which was code for i need to get help from someone in the office) he comes back and starts reading me the information found on the USCIS website. I proceeded to recite the words right along with him. Yes Yes I know it all by heart! He said oh - so you know this information. I said yes my point in calling you and wasting my time apparently was to see what you the State Congressman's office could do for us. But I can read just as well as you and visit that website frequently. He put me on hold again - this time he came back with a bit of attitude - telling me whoever told me that this office could help was way off base. That they do not get involved with Immigration issues and it is frowned apon. I felt like reaching through the phone just ripping his dorky little eyes out. I proved him wrong by telling him a story of Mr. Pat Toomey's assistance in bringing my uncle's wife over and that he was more than happy to do it in less than 2 months. Kid didn't know what to say. He started stumbling and fumbling on his words so i did what i thought i had to. I hung up on him.

I m not gonna give up - this little kid - i swear i have socks older and more educated than he was - brought me down a bit but i see all the good we're all trying to accomplish and it makes me feel good. We have to be strong - stay positive and although it is hard today it will only get easier and eventually one day, hopefully sooner than later - we'll finally be with our loved ones.

Can someone tell me again what's the procedures for calling VSC (what's their number btw) and get someone to talk to on line? I'm really fed up with the waiting. I'm on my 150 days at this point and it has never been 'touched' as far as I can see from USCIS website protest6wz.gif

Here are the steps for the RFE trick. It will get you through to talk to someone at VSC:

1-800-375-5283, 1, 2, 2, 4, 2, 1, EACxxxx, 1, 1.

Good luck!!!

Has anyone figured out the logic of touches - I just logged into the USCIS website for the heck of it - I had a touch on Friday. This is a bit confusing to me... I havent been checking or calling in or anything - i figure I have a ways to wait yet. Do you get a touch for moving from one pile/desk to another?

I'm not sure there is any logic when it comes to USCIS no0pb.gif

The touch could mean anything but lets cross our fingers and hope that it is good news smile.gif

HAha - as much as i'd like to hope - there are far too many people ahead of me for me to start hoping from now! But keeping our fingers crossed - that i can do! I saw in your tentative timeline that your not going back until July - If i waited that long i'd be waiting for a year. I think once I really am assured that it's not going to happen soon - I am going back and getting married there - living for 6-8 months and then coming back here, husband in tow. You have much more patience than I thats for sure!

OMG!!!! They're working on our approvals now!!!!! I still coundn't believe! I wasn't expecting it to come sooner cuz I've been waiting for Mirla's NOA2 to come first!!!! I don't know if I should feel happy or what... but Mirla and the rest of you guys... please hang on... at least now we know that VSC is back to work on our cases!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, I really don't know how to react on this... I feel like I wanna cry but I'm calming down... I don't check my emails and status online as much as you do... I'm too lazy to do that... Last night I told Wilson that if it's meant to be, it will happen. I've been very POSITIVE but at the same time taking easy on things... I really believe that everything happens for a reason whether it's good or bad... I mean I really didn't expect this to have come sooner cuz Wil and I wanted to have our interview next year so we don't feel like rushing on things... but I feel so blessed. Everything that I prayed for is coming true... All of you were on my prayers so please just be patient... We'll get over it soon... You gotta have faith not just believe... God bless you all... I promise I'm still gonna pray for you...

Everybody please check your emails!!!!!!!!!!

I am a comm major, and consider myself to be very good at writing letters, so if ya'll want something good to say, I'm willing to write for all of us, send files, and then you can sign and ship it!

GREAT!! Lets get a letter together for Oprah...Attorneys to start. I'd include a few "personal" stories of how this process affects lives...such as a 10 month wait for visa...or the agony of waiting in the dark. Lets paint a picture of how this affects AMERICANS and their families abroad.

What are the issues we want to include??? Suggestions?? The floor is open for suggestions.

MY concerns are:

1. Lack of inforamtion
2. Inconsistant information
3. Slow Background checks
4. Lack of accountability on USCIS's part
5. Mismanagement of resources within USCIS
6. Lack of a unified process amonst Embassys and Interviews

ANY ONE ELSE??? Lets paint the picture for these people...tell us your stories how this process is affecting YOU personally so these can be possibly incorporated into these letters....

Also, lets set a deadline for this...what is your suggestion..when can you have the letter files ready for downloading for people to send?

Call it a long week or not paying enough attention or whatever you want to call it - i am on the oprah site now and can't seem to find the path to emailing? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I found it interesting that Page 4 of the instructions has a place to fill in the wedding date. blink.gif but earlier in the instructions they make it very clear to NOT set a date for the wedding.

We don't have a wedding date......then I guess we will have to make it up, right? blink.gif

I have no idea what one would do about that space. I guess you would either leave it blank or something like "To be decided". Hmmm. i wonder if Moscow sends the same instruction....

When I talked to the contact at the embassy in syria she told me if we've made plans or travel arrangements already to enter the dates there as the embassy will attempt to accomodate those arrangements already made. But i don't know if this is the way it is at all embassy's

Do you think it would be crazy of me to book February 23,2008 for our wedding day?? Approvals seems to be taking right around 90-120 days - and on the forms that go to the embassy in the SO's country it says have you made travel arrangements, set wedding dates etc. Also, the lady i am in contact with at the Embassy in Syria told me to let her know as soon as i've gotten approval and she'll keep an eye out for his file. Should I trust all of this?

My mom and I went to look at a few places today and they all say hurry and book before there is nothing left. I am afraid that if i don't book we'll get approved and i'll be having my wedding at some VFW (no offense to those who are going that route, its just not our style). But i'm afraid if i do book it'll be february before we even get our NOA2.

Also - i guess this question is for Zee - your the only one who is semi local i've noticed - Have you begun looking around for reception sites - just wondered what the per head cost has been for you if you have. We saw two places today both seemed to be comparable in price - not in atmosphere tho - around 70-75 dollars per head - including open bar and one of them even a chocolate fondue fountain with every fruit imaginable, drink fountain, and cake from a well known well respected baker in the area.

I think i'm going to take a break and send some pics to print - Snapfish has a sale today and tomrorow yet on digital picture developing for just 9 cents a pic - enter the coupon code Cloud9 when ordering!!

Have a great nite everyone! If we can't look forward to approvals - we can certainly look forward to the weekend!

I would NOT book anything. With the way VSC has been going lately who knows what is going to happen? Also, considering the fact that your fiance is from Syria there is a high possibility that he may be put on AP/AR (not saying for sure but it happens to a lot of MENA men) and this can also put a kink in your plans. Because of that I haven't even thought about receptions or anything but now that we are approved I may venture out a little.

Good luck smile.gif

I appreciate everyone's opinions - I was feeling very hopeful and although everything on here screamed there will be delays i was still just floating in the clouds wanting to plan and have him here - i think i needed to hear all of your opinions to become a bit more grounded on the issue!

If VSC is taking an average of 3 months from NOA to NOA2 you whould expect to see yours around the middle of November, right? And if you've already got someone looking out for your file...I dunno, if you're a risk taker I'd say go for it. It would stink to have to reschedule everything if you're not approved by then, but it would also stink to not have anything booked and have to wait for an opening or get married some place you don't want to.

I've read on here somewhere that you're not supposed to make any arrangements ahead of time, but I think that might have just with the information about the London Embassy, so it might no apply to you.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

VSC's average is currently 108 days, which is about 3 1/2 months, and unfortunately, that number is currently growing. As was stated in the July Filers forum, you have 180 days to enter the country + 90 days thereafter to get married, a total of 9 months, which is plenty of time to plan a wedding. I realize no one wants to wait that whole 9 months to be with their fiance, but it is a window of time. My personal opinion is that it would be smart to wait for the NOA2, then book plans.

I appreciate everyone's replies - had a emotionally down day - figured posting and hearing others thoughts would clear my mind a bit!! Thanks again!!! good.gif

I don’t know what happened but I called VSC on Friday with RFE trick and got the same thing you all get 6 month wait and can’t tell me anything. 4 days later I receive the letter post marked Aug 31 and letter inside from NVC dated Aug 17 saying they are sending papers to Ukraine embassy for interview. So I must have been approved some time around Aug. 5 to the 12th. No emails no touches and today it says on the website that it’s still pending. For all I know it sat on someone’s desk till they got back from Vacation and it might be setting on a desk in the Ukraine right now. My girl will call them today because she is all ready. I went throw this 3 yrs ago but it was smooth and had NOA2 in 22 days. You know how Government workers are and it sucks but it has been like that forever. The wait is one thing but not telling you anything is worst. I will call both places today and keep you all posted.

Sorry to ask this but how does the RFE trick works, i mean if i say that i have a question concerning the RFE i received (know that i dindt get anything like that) and they ask what typ of question, what do i answer?

I have to laugh bc i too was a litle weary of callling and using the "RFE" trick - so at the last second i said "I am a bit confused last week my last updated date had changed to XX and now it is back to XX" Can you help?" The lady was great - although i realized she was eiether blatently lying to me or talking out of her you know what bc she proceeded to tell me it looked like my case had changed hands within the service center and thats why the date changed but the status had not changed and thats w hy it changed back. She fed me a line of bullshit off of my bullshit lie. Kinda funny to tell you the truth!

I was thinkin about something the other day - all the people who work at the SC's need to be former petition filers. maybe they'd have some sympathy and work a lil harder or faster or something!!

Although its hard to be going through this right now - i have to admit i love that i have all of you with me. I'm not a every day poster but i can tell you that i'm a 50 times a day reader!! Good luck to everyone - hopefully we'll all be with our loved ones soon.

Oh well!! Have a great day everyone!
