It's way too early to tell...unless you believe in magic. smile.gif No disrespect, but the last time the country voted based on charisma, we found our nation's leader under house arrest for plunder. tongue.gif

For the sake of everybody's blood pressure, let's not feed the troll. smile.gif Translation: Huwag nyo nang patulan ang kulang-kulang na si Quirky. (Don't fan the flames of Quirky's ignorance anymore.)

We know Luvtechwifey has made a good point...we've all suffered enough injustice at the hands of very corrupt, powerful people in high places. It's bad enough we have infrastructure built by the lowest bidder...I hope someday these ugly politicos will see what their greed has done to our country and the poor unfortunate folk who have to live with what they (the corrupt ones) have taken away.

Am kind of upset I may not be able to vote overseas since the deadline for absentee voters has already come and gone. Hope the ones who can vote go out there and exercise their rights...don't waste the chance!

@marriedtomrg LOL You're funny. "kulang-kulang".. Ignore him cuz he's probably enjoying the attention.
If you could vote, which Presidential candidate would you vote for?

Hahaha.. Well, "Cory magic" seems to be raging like fire but just because your parents made a mark in history doesn't mean you'll have the same impact on the people. With that being said, I feel like this "magic" will abate in the months to come. I was just curious since I manage one of the Presidential candidates' website and pages. I'm not saying that I'll be voting for him but from what I see from my own eyes, he's formidable. The Philippines is in dire need of a leader with a back bone. Please just not Erap.

I think VJ should add a feature wherein only people from the specific country indicated can access a thread since it is after all, a regional discussion. Some are welcome since they are beneficial to the topic but the nuisance comments really change the mood of the discussion so I wouldn't be surprised if this one closes soon.

My wife's family lost their home in the flooding (their house collapsed) and one of her sisters is missing.

I'm so sorry to hear that. From what I've seen, rescue teams are doing everything in their capacity to be of service to the flood victims. My heart goes out to the people in the afflicted areas. I hope they find your sister in law soon.

I was born and raised in the Philippines but this is the first time I've witnessed a flood this drastic. There was a throng of vehicles stranded in front of our house since the downward slope was flooded - - - waist deep! I feel fortunate that there was no damage whatsoever to our property and that my family is safe. The village's security guard even had to abandon his usual post and stand by our gate, sitting on his bike just to keep himself above the water.

poor drainage + greenhouse effect. The government should act on this, pronto.

PhilippinesLooking for Tourist Visa info
My mom got her tourist visa not so long ago.. Your mother in law has to prove that she has reason to stay in the Philippines because otherwise, they're going to drill her and assume that she'll "hide" in the States since she has relatives there.
You must also show that you can afford the said trip so you need documents of your bank account, Peso and Dollar.
It helps to show a clear itinerary so I suggest that you go to a travel agency and set one. (She doesn't need to follow the itinerary, just make it look like she's going..)

My mom told me she was nervous since the applicant before her was denied and she felt bad for him since he wanted to visit his grandfather's burial.

The consul didn't even bother looking at my mom's documents...
She was dressed in jeans and her typical collared top.

Btw, she was denied 5 years ago. Why? the CO surmised she was embezzling money since she had too much money going in and out of her $ account.
The female CO also asked if she was going to look for an American boyfriend in the States since my mom is young and single.
LMFAO.

The second time around, the CO was a man so that helps.
G'luck! The information given by bluerose001 is right. smile.gif

Bring your old NBI Clearance so they can scan it for your fingerprints on file. But you will pay a new fee for the new purpose. No need to fill up a form, I'd think. How long ago did you get one?

No food or drinks allowed in the clinic, they will check your bags. I saw people sneak in candy and stuff but eat very discreetly. For certain parts of the process you can step outside and have a snack across the street. I would forego eating at least until after they finish all your lab work on the 1st day.

Thanks!

PhilippinesThis flood shows the differences between poor filipinos and poor americans
QUOTE (Economist @ Sep 27 2009, 08:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
One of the reasons I would like to move to the philippines one day with my wife is the attitude of the poor filipinos and how they deal with circumstances. Look at these two photos and see how big the differences are.

In philippines 24 hours after the flood, a woman is already starting to clean up her home.

In the united states after hurricane katrina...about 24 hours after the flood (you can see the waters have still not subsided) people are looting like crazy.

I read a post on here of someone saying that louisiana is still recovering from the flood. I would bet anything that within a few months people in the philippines will already have recovered from their flood.

This is also what scares me about my country (the US) That when bad things happen here, we take forever to bounce back from it. With what is happening with the economy today I think its going to get so much worse in the US over the next year or so and I just dont think the people here can handle it and things will get so much worse than the great depression.

Perhaps the reason the filipinos recover so fast is that they all pray when disaster happens and God helps them recover quickly. In the US, many people do not believe in God anymore and do not pray when bad things happen which is why i believe we take so long to recover from disasters.

The disparity between the cost of living in America and the Philippines is extensive. The Filipinos who live below the poverty line are resilient because they don't have a reliable government as compared to that of yours. They make use of what they have and work from there.
It always pinched my heart seeing unfortunate people smiling despite the tragedy. My mom always told me that it's inherent that a Filipino finds beauty in mishap because sulking won't get them anywhere. Instead, they pick up the pieces and use their resources to start anew.
This is what makes me further appreciate what I have because there's always someone who has it rougher than you do.
I'd rather not comment on religion since that's a touchy subject.

QUOTE (legendofzelda @ Sep 30 2009, 02:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Regarding poverty or income, my fiance's co-sponsor is his dad. And he is still a student (he is in senior year now). I read it in some thread before that it wouldnt be a problem if consul see a potential or capability of your beneficiary to work in the US. So, advice her to do good on her interview. Speak in english good. And if she is working, advice to present her employment history or certificate of employment. I dont have my interview yet, but I will do my best to pass it. I worked in call center for over 3 years already, and I worked with big US companies (telecom and online travel agency).

Don't worry too much about it, just GO and get you Love.

kicking.gif

Thanks for taking the time to comment on our thread. Jordan and I have discussed several details regarding the interview and we've snagged a few substantial pointers from fellow VJ members who have undergone the interview process.
" Speak in english good." - - - Thanks for the concern but I think I've got that part covered and apparently, you seem to think that you do as well. I can fully articulate myself in English since I was raised speaking the language.

I think what you meant to say was, "Speak English fluently." Some people might take offense to your remark and misconstrue it as racist so as thetallcoolone said, choose your words wisely.
I am currently employed in a company that hired me for two posts, namely as a Web Researcher for a political client and a Resource Specialist for major call centers based in Metro Manila.

MY PERSONAL NOTE TO FILIPINAS
: You need not have the eloquence of Jane Austen nor do you need to be an effective speaker to pass the interview. The last time I checked, we aren't reporting to the grammar police. As long as you're able to communicate in English, you'll be fine. At the end of the day, we have to remind ourselves that we won't be solely judged on our "English Proficiency" but the legitimacy of the relationship.

THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU, legendofzelda!

QUOTE (SomedaySomehow @ Sep 30 2009, 02:06 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
1) You can change your address via the USCIS website or through the 1-800 number at anytime during the process.... not a problem at all. Don't worry about that.

2) You only need to submit 1 year of the most recent tax return with the Affadavit of Support for the K1. However some will suggest to send 3 years worth. Personally I only sent my fiance 1 year, but included 2 months of pay stubs, a letter from my employer and bank statements as well. None of this needs to be sent in with the K1 petition initially. Your fiance will need it at the day of her interview, which may be a good thing in your case as you could use your tax returns from this upcoming filing season ( pending meeting the poverty guidelines I guess for this year ).

Once you are married and she is here and you file for Adjustment of status, than you will need to produce 3 years of tax returns. Like Hoale said above, USEM tends to not accept Co-sponsors, at least not on a consistent basis, so be prepared for that potential problem at the interview. Good luck!

Thank you, this advice was really helpful. I was worried about me moving and all. Well the only real concern is me with the co sponsor, I know it does go case by case with it, but I do hope to use one. I hear its a lot better when the co sponsor is a close family member and I plan to use my aunt as one, I didnt make enough to be over the poverty line on my last tax return. I am getting a job that should help me out with all this, at least show them that I will make over the poverty line in a year but I would like to use a co sponsor as a back up or something. Thank you again and good luck to you on the interview! God Bless.

PhilippinesI have a question before I send the K1 petition, Please advise!
Hey all VJ'ers, got a few questions.

1. I'm getting all things prepared and I'm about to send them off, but the thing that concerns me is that I'm more than likely gonna be moving to another state. I'm gonna be moving from L.A. to Vegas cuz I'm looking for better opportunities there. So what do I do if I send them out here in L.A. and I move to Vegas? Is it easy to change my address and be fine or will it give me a hard time in the long run? I'm just worried that things will get messed up just cuz I moved after I get the NOA1 and have like major delays just cuz of that.

2. I dont think I really have like 3 tax returns, I know I have 2 and I dont think it shows that I can support us two, so I know that I have to get a co-sponsor and my aunt is more than willing to help me out with that. So, does it matter if she's one and she lives in a different state? I brought up the tax returns cuz I'm wondering what to do cuz I dont have 3. Can anybody tell me more on what to do with that?

Thank you all for reading this and I'll appreciate all the advice that you can give me. God Bless.

Some families might perceive this as a positive since it shows that the man can support the woman so that's a plus.

PhilippinesJust venting
QUOTE (friendlygal25 @ Oct 12 2009, 05:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I joined VisaJourney about a year ago and I am very thankful to VJ because it helped us very much with my visa journey.

The reason I am posting this, it is because I just want to express how I feel about those VJers that all they’ve been doing are making fun, posting replies that irrelevant to the original posts, or giving insensitive comments to the OP or those who replied. I can say that Philippine forum in particular is not as good as before. I am very disappointed because it has been going on like this almost everyday already. I myself, is very discouraged to posts my queries anymore because I know someone will make fun out of it too regardless of the topic. I just wish that this will be stopped. I wish that if someone posts something that will be useful to those who are new in this journey , no one will ruin the discussion.

To those who understand me, thank you but to those who will not agree…well, good luck and God bless. Peace again.

I really feel you on this one, I've been going through the same things. It's why I PM certain members, especially the really nice and pleasent members who have gone through the journey already. I'm sure that you will find good people on here too, Good Luck and God bless.

PhilippinesTerms of endearment.
We call each other the mutual Baby. Then she calls me either "Papo", "Papi", or "Papito". She likes those spanish names...well except for papo lol. I call her "Nena", and I'm still coming up with some....when we're mad at each other, its strictly first names with the cranky attitude in it.

PhilippinesBayview Park Hotel
My fiance always stays at Sofitel. Why not try it over there? I'm sure they have packages to offer.
It also helps if you're a member so you can get a discount or maybe one night free at the hotel.
I must say that the service is good, the internet is fast, there's a cab service for your convenience and the place is very accessible.
It's roughly $100 a night.

Check it out online.

PhilippinesHow tall/how short the "petite women"?
I'm 5'11 and Toni's 5'5. I loved carrying her around, eventhough she always gave me a hard time for it lol.

PhilippinesFavorite photo of you and your partner
I was browsing through photos during Jordan's stay here in the Philippines and I reverted to the best days I've ever had. I realized that I'm sure other couples on here can share their favorites and a gist of the story behind the picture. smile.gif

I had a hard time selecting which one I favored the most but out of a bunch of them, I gravitated towards this one and it happens to be my profile pic on MySpace. Harhar.

It was Jordan's last night in the Philippines so we headed out to Greenbelt 5 and ate a scrumptious dinner at Kai. We had such a splendid evening so we headed to Cafe Havana afterwards to have some drinks. Jordan had his usual Rhum Coke while I ordered a bottle of Gilbey's Premium Strength Green Tea Gin. (I love that stuff!!!) - - - boracha biggrin.gif

We had a serving of "Banana Republic" (a.k.a Platanos) and Jordan had an idea of making me taste something new so after getting a laugh out of what to get, I finally called the waitress and whispered...

"Excuse me, can I uh.. have a #######?" innocent.gif

She looked so shocked that she stared at me and it felt like she was peering into my soul! Hahahahaha.. After the waitress got a whiff of that, she just nodded and scurried off though it was so evident that she was stifling her laugh.

Haaaaaaaa.. Memories!!! biggrin.gif

PhilippinesFinally doing it
Hey everybody!

For people who are my friends on here or others who have read my past posts, I'm finally happy and positive to say that Im finally sending in the K-1 petition...after all those months of talking about it, I'm finally doing it lol. After seeing people Ive talked to who have already sent in and got approved, I know I needed to get moving quick, so my 2 questions. First, now that Im sending it in, it seems that I have to wait for a new form for the I-129f to come out since it expired on the 31st of Jan. so how long will it take for the new version to come out, or can I just send it now? and the second question is, since I just started working for my dad's construction business, I dont get any pay stubs and probably wont get a tax return for it, I know I will need some type of a return for them. So, being as I work, techincally under ther table, how will it pose as a problem when she gets that interview? I sorta have a funny feeling for that, so Im already looking for a job that will give me the necessary things, just in case. Well, Im hoping for some positive advice from everybody, especially from friends, Thanks.

Jordan & Toni
