Middle East and North AfricaDid anyone here have difficulty with USCIS when petitioning for your loved one?
I agree, that seems quite a bit excessive. Do as Jeanne suggested and contact those people and places. Did you ever file for anyone else before? And was your fella possibly with someone else before? If not, I wonder if his name is similiar to another guy who has done something before?

Middle East and North AfricaMENA men say the darndest things....

I can't remember if I posted this before or not; don't think I did.
My husband had difficulty with the difference between "guy" and "gay".
It resulted in him introducing some "nice guy" and "This is Bob; he's a really nice gay"!

^^^ LOL

too funny! Adam cant say Truth properly he says Troos... I can get him to say some words and throw in the word truth and its so cute... he will keep trying to say truth until he gets 99% close to it.

Middle East and North Africamarried to a egyptian, how do I get through customs
2nd time I went, I was married and brought my marriage cert to the counter and got my visa. I remember the guys behind the counter that saw my marriage cert smiled and said something like "oh you're married to an egyptian" I said yes and they stamped my passport. Simple and easy Then I went through the line of customs and the guy that looked in my passport smiled and said "oh your name is Tamara" Yes again and I was done. Simple and easy

Adams grandmother is out of the hospital but now her liver is failing. I hope she gets better, but in her mid 80s, I dont think it will happen. If she passes, we will need to see if his mother will live in Cairo with his sister and her husband or if we will get her to visit here and then possibly live here at some point. Something we will have to start thinking about. His father died in 06, his grandfather died in 07 and he has no brothers so its basically going to be on us to take care of his mom.

Freezing here in East Houston! Omgosh I love this weather! Went with my sister and her 5yr old daughter to the nail salon to get our manis/pedi before she and her hubby go to India. My 5yr old neice saw the pink butterfly chair and that was her seat to get her nails painted in! She loved it! She was the princess!
Got home and started cooking dinner for Adam since he's at work and burned a finger pretty bad. Didnt realize I didnt have the pot holder on the part of the dish that I grabbed with my 4th finger and got it burned pretty darn bad. Thankfully its not a finger I'm going to be using alot at work so I'll keep it bandaged up. Other than that, all is well. Adam is doing great at work, his family is still ok in Egypt, and everything is fine over here. Hope everyone has a great week!

Sorry to hear about the break-ins Tammy. Be sure to ALWAYS lock your car. Doesn't matter if you're just going to run
in the store. I'm glad nothing was destroyed!! NEVER NEVER take for granted that your car doesn't need to be locked.
Don't know about you, but my first thing I do when I get into my car is lock my door. Then the seat belt goes on. Just
be careful and stay safe hon.

I know! Back home in Atlanta I always, I mean ALWAYS locked the doors. There was no sense of safety back home anywhere. One time I accidentally forgot to lock my car door when I was at work and when I went got into my car to get some lunch I realized someone had been in my car and left a bag of drugs in my car! Scary!
Here, I just didnt think about it since we live in the country and cops live everywhere around us but so do alot of young people.
Another time back home in Georgia I was off work and at my Walmart leaving the store to get into my car and a man came out of nowhere and tried to open up my back drivers side door, thankfully it was locked- all my doors were locked. He moved up to my driver door and was trying to say something but I put my car into reverse and backed up and he got into a car parked across from mine and he followed me to the back of the parking lot, then I drove to the front of the store and called some other managers and told them about what had just happened.
Now since this happened Saturday night, I'm scared to be home alone since Adam works til 2am. Im about to buy some pepperspray. Thankfully my mom and step dad lives one mile straight up the road and my step dad is a cop as well. But being at home alone still makes me nervous at the moment

Last night someone went into me and Adams vehicals. I got ready to go to church and I noticed my Bible had been moved and my work badge had been moved. Then I realized my glove box was open but nothing was out of it bcz it only had papers in it. A pack of Adams cigarettes that only had 1 or 2 left was taken out my car and I'm surprised they didnt take my box cutter out my car or anything from the truck since I have a lever in my car for the truck. Then I went inside and got Adam to come out and we noticed someone had been in his car too bcz his cds were out and missing some arabic ones, and his glove box was opened too but nothing missing that we could tell. They didnt find his gps which was under the seat. Strange! We will be locking our car doors from now on. We just didnt think about it since we live around chickens and cops, I guess the kids or burglars dont care.

Thank you much for your advice alibekh. Well it would be nice to have a lady who is pretty and does the dishes and picks up my socks. I think I did pretty good my first time around so I hope my horse sense this time around will be as good.

If you get lucky you will find a girl that wants to be treated like a queen and want you to cook and clean for her and pick up her laundry off the floor and wash and fold them, plus work hard outside the home and give her spending money for her pleasure of shopping. Sounds like a fair thing to do!

Middle East and North AfricaHello

I dislike putting poisons out in the environment so I prefer to try organic strategies when at all possible.

I have used the boiling water method with great success. Just boil some water in a large tea kettle or pot, walk it out to the mound and slowly pour it directly into the center and surrounding area (usually about 1 to 1-and-a-half feet in diameter.) Might take 2 kettles, depending on size. You have to kill the queen to eliminate the nest. Try to collapse most of the mound with the water.

And you need to treat all the mounds on the same day - if you leave even one, they will re-infest your yard. I like to do it on a sunny Saturday morning, then check the next day to see if there's any activity - if so, just hit 'em with another dose of boiling water.

Be careful not to treat any regular non-fire ant mounts - they are beneficial in keeping down the fire ant population.

Hai Julianna!

WOM, sounds like a great idea. I've checked all the mounds and they are fire ants for sure. There is about 2 massive size mounds though. I've never used boiling water though and I will definitely try it, do you think it would work for massive size mounds. I'll probably take pictures of the mound size also this weekend bcz I've never seen a mound the size of this one. I did use the ant poison and then poured just faucet water on them a few weeks ago. The next day I saw many dead fire ants on top of the mounds. I've also tried bleach on top of the mounds but that did nothing for some reason. Will boiling water work more effectively?

Well having the german sheppard who is inside and outside (in the back yard) shes been digging holes in the back yard. We have a whole right side up against the house that maybe could be used to garden something? But Im going to have to check how much time it gets full sun. We just noticed yesterday that our neighbors have pear trees and he got excited for fruit and veges all over again. He saw seed packets at moms house the other night and thought they were for us! We have the perfect space for planting but having a dog that runs around the yard now might create a problem for a backyard garden :(

Middle East and North AfricaHello
and omgosh! The ant beds in the yards are ridiculous! I put fireant poison out and the next day half are dead and the other half moved like 12 inches away from their first huge mound... like they dont think I'll find them again. So then yesterday I put more poison out and half are dead and the rest moved a few inches away and made awhole nother mound! Omgosh! Ants are a piece of work too!

Nope, dinosaurs=Paleontology=Geology. Bioarcheology=human remains in Archaeology=Anthropology. So I have a lot of human experience and zero dinosaur experience. Cotton though is facinating. I was considering growing green this year as I got the seeds. I bet that boll is pretty.

Hey J! Speaking of "seeds" Adam sooo wants all kinds of fruits and vegetables planted in our yard. I know this will be a huge process and alot of work that Im probably going to get stuck with. So, is it cool if when I get my thoughts and ideas together you give me some advice or ideas for a garden. I KNOW you are the pro!

Middle East and North AfricaHappy stories of American women +Moroccan husbands
I know my husband isnt Moroccan-he's Egyptian but this July we will be married for 5 yrs. This Oct we will have known each other for 6. We live a mile from my mom and very close to most my family. Anywhere from a mile, to 15 minutes to grandparents, to 20 minutes to my sister, to 1hr from another one, to 5 hours from 3 brothers in Louisiana and their family.

With the exception of work since we have crazy schedules, we do almost everything in life together and have alot of fun together pretty much daily. We make up words that only we know what they mean so when we want to say them to each other in front of my family -we both smile at each other and know our secret words. Or even if we are just sitting next to each other reading, I look at him and bat my eyes. When he plays arabic music in the house I try to dance even though I am honestly not a dancer at all! Sometimes I start rattling off every arabic word I know and it will totally lighten up the mood if hes stressed about something. Our usual bad situations are more like "attitudes about things"
However, we have our crazy stressed out moments but honestly our good days by far outweigh the bad ones.

Middle East and North AfricaMENA Men Being "Men"
I think the honeymoonish stage was more like him wanting to help out with the dishes or laundry more often when he first came to the US. Fast forward past the honeymoon stage, forget doing dishes but once a month. He'll do laundry every now and then if he needs a pair of pants washed. He has taken upon himself to mow the lawn 2 times since we bought a lawn mower. He has filled in a hole in the drive way with cement. But with the stuff inside, I've learned not to count on him to get stuff done like the dishes or laundry. If he does it, its one less thing for me to do and I sooo appreciate it but if not I know I'll get a once in a month help out.

He told me when he we first got married that if I cooked for him every day he would do dishes every day. I sooo remind him that now that I dont cook for him everyday anymore. If he's going to slack off on his end of the deal, then all bets are off for a homecooked meal every single day.
On the other end of this, he's an awesome worker at his job. His managers always telling him and me how much he does and the paperwork on file proves it. He worked at my store for 3 weeks during Christmas and all the women just loved him and all the other managers in my store were talking about him even today.
We have a certain chinese restaurant that every single time we go to the door he goes to get it for me and says every single time, "Oh gosh, do I have to do this forever? Isnt 4yrs enough! -(with a huge smile on his face) and I say Forever Boo! But most of the time when we go out he takes a quick smoke break outside so I get to the door first and go in and wait on him bcz I hate cigarette smell.

Middle East and North AfricaCase going back to USCIS, who do I contact?
And I'm pretty curious myself as to how the differences in the parents discipline goes? Who in the family is the more lenient and who is more into disciplining the child or children? How does the male or female MENA parents handle their children? I find that in some Egyptian friends home, that many of them that have children are not so strict on discipline and seem to rather lack in it. Same in many of my Indian families homes. The children rule the homes in many situations I've seen.
~PalmTreeGurl~FemaleEgypt2011-03-10 01:37:00
Middle East and North AfricaCase going back to USCIS, who do I contact?
Adam and I are one in the same in Christianity. Cant think of anything we disagree on in nearly any subject. We both study the Bible and our morals are based on it. Now cultural differences we do have some odds and ends on various things. We both know that when we do have a child, he or she will be raised in a christian home and we will do our best to blend in both cultures fairly.

My sister is married to an Indian muslim. They have been married almost 7yrs and they have 2 daughters. One is 5 the other almost 2. They both have respect towards one another that they believe differently in religion. They both have high morals and raise their daughters that way as well. The biggest cultural difference that stands out for them though is on discipline. He chooses not to discipline saying that its bcz he didnt have to be when he was a child and that culturally its not the "norm" and my sister does believe in discipline but would prefer to have her husband help.

Or make sure no one has a camera phone. Or a youtube account.

Every day people make judgements about how you look, what you wear, who you are with. You cant go living life as if no one is going to do that bcz its going to happen. However you do you have to careful for putting too much personal info out there for people. What city you live in or work in specifically. Your phone number or just too much of anything. This day and age almost everyone young and old has camera phones or knows how to put things online so just make sure that if is something seen in a background of someone elses vacation or just put out in the public against you that you didnt give toooo much away.
