Middle East and North AfricaRamadan 2008
Thanks Annie. Tomorrow the plan is to get up early and sleep for a while, go to the interview, and hope i can make it thru the day without eating.

For me this being my first ramadan, i ended up not getting up early with Kamal and eating and sleeping instead. he was up all night and every time he went into the fridge i woke up. So i woke up this morning and because of my meds, i have to drink water. Well i took 2 naps and by 2:30 broke down and ate. And got sick to my tummy after that. i'm trying hard. i plan on getting up early with kamal next time, and hopefully it will make it easier. But with no job and being home more all i want to do is sleep. i can't do that. i have a job interview tomorrow(temp job for 3 months), so inshallah it all goes right.

Excuse me i worded that wrong. I want to do it for myself. But i want my husband to be proud that even if i failed i tried. Jeez

Terrie rose.gif I think sometimes people get defensive because to many times women convert for a hubby and not for the right reason. So I believe when people see that wording even if in reference to fasting...its brings up those thoughts...(could be wrong here..don't kick me! LOL)

Anyway, I think its a great idea that you want to support your husband while he fasts. I know I have friends that specifically will not bring food around at work while I'm fasting out of respect and supporting me during Ramadan. They are awesome friends! At the same time, if you're considering converting this is an opportunity for you to see what fasting/Ramadan/Islam is about...at the times that you stated food is an issue..I would read about Islam! If you're at work...can you go online? (I can PM you some websites) Or bring some books on Islam so that your time you are fasting you are using this time to learn.

YAY Terrie for being strong supporting your hubby during this time and I am around if you'd like to find out more about Islam.

HUGS! rose.gif

Beleive me i have other reasons fro fasting and converting and they have nothing to do with my husband. Although if i never met him, i probably wouldn't be thinking on these lines. There are several and mind you the reasons are very good but i don't feel comfortable discussing them in open forum like this. But i'm sure once you and i maybe talk, you'll understand!!

I too need the same advice. I was gonna just type about this myself. I am new to Ramadan and want to so make my husband proud of me. I just don't know how i can go without eating all day, when thats all they ever do in my office. And when i get bored at home, well that refrig, has such good stuff in it. I know self discpline is needed and i'm not good with that. so if anyone has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.

Well, I think it's wonderful that you want to be closer to your husband and make him feel proud. The first time I sort of did Ramadan (I used Moroccan time, not American, and didn't start right away) was solely out of consideration for him - I didn't want to rudely eat in front of him on the webcam. Well, he said I didn't have to (I'm not even Muslim), but he was so excited and happy about it that I did it 'for real' last year. This year, I'm focusing more on the true reasons for doing it as I understand them to be - respect for God/Allah, to 'better' ourselves spiritually, and to at least symbolically help feed the poor. Maybe I'm misguided, but I'm still learning.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with fasting no matter what the reason. I'm sure you have other reasons anyway. In my case, my reasons have changed for the better in the past two years. Sometimes we need to go through the motions at first and let the true purpose find us later. At least that's what happened for me!

I told my husband about your post, and he thinks it's wonderful that you're interested in trying.

Best of luck.

thanks, my husband has asked me if this is what i want to do, and i'm doing it for other reasons along with the fact that my mind is on conversion. This has got to be the hardest thing that i can see myself doing and am just curious on how i am gonna get thru this. The girls in my office eat non-stop and even tho i'm there for 4 hours, its hard.

I was just wondering the best way to 'ease into' Ramadan for someone who is new to it. I am waiting a little later each day to eat to get my body used to it, but someone told me it might not make things easier, but actually harder - I'm making myself weaker for the start of Ramadan.

Does anyone have any tips on how to help adjust to this for someone new to it? I asked my husband, but he's been doing it since he was a child.

Thanks!

Ramadan is new to me this year. It will be kamal's first here. I don't understand much about it, and want to learn. But he is one that when asked to explain something about islam i get all confused even more. So please give me some advice on what to do. I've done some reading, and have been mulling over the idea of converting to muslim. i'm not sure what to do. Any help will be well appreciated! thanks.

Middle East and North AfricaSending baked goods to Morocco

I just mailed a package to Morocco that weighed only 2.2 lbs and I uysed the GLOBAL INTERNATIONAL service which has a minimum fee of $147 PLUS. It advertises to get to destinations 1-3 days but my receipt printed out 7 days and the postal clerk re-checked it in the system and it said again 7 days.....I mailed the package on Saturday the 28th and the tracking shows it made it through customs on 9/1 after it left here in Alabama, went to Memphis, to Paris-France to Madrid Spain and then on to Morocco! It says enroute to him today...Here is a link I found with some guidelines.

I (L) the holiday season! I love every holiday from Halloween until New Years. I love getting into the holidays from decorating to cooking to shopping to entertaining. All of it. :) I love changing out all the decorations for each holiday. I'm about to switch out my Halloween decorations and put up my Thanksgiving/harvest stuff.

I used to enjoy the holidays, but come to hate them! I don't know why maybe it was the man i used to be married to, he spoiled everythign for me.

Anyway, I had my first date today with an egyptian man who actually has a visa! He was very nice, he made dinner for me and we talked. Inshallah, we will see how things go. I wasn't sure if he was my type when we started chatting online, but he is very nice and sweet!

I know I don't post much anymore but i've bee sitting on the sidelines watching....
Have a good night!

Hi everyone :) I have never posted here but I thought it would be great to say hello and meet a community of supportive people. Right now I'm having so much difficulty dealing with being separated, and I don't plan to go visit my fiancé until late February. It's hard to be strong sometimes! Right now there is a ton of snow on the ground and I think it's even more depressing to be locked inside during the winter alone. :P I hope everyone else here lives in warm climates!

Welcome Elan to Visa Journey. You have entered a good forum from where you can usually get a lot of support. All of us who have been thru the visa process and are goin thru it know the difficutlys of being seperated. This is a great bunch of guys and gals here and if you have any questions just ask. There is never a stupid question.

Well finally went back to work today, she has me working only 3 days right now but its a start. And as I came home, I sat down to watch another drug bust across the street! Unbeleivable!! Have a good hump day!
