Russia, Ukraine and BelarusMedical experience in Moscow
So, I just passed my medical. Wasn't bad at all. It took me two days though but that's because I wasn't in a hurry and overslept my turn to go to the doctor's office for a couple of times.
Anyway, I went to AO Meditsina since it was really close to my job. I took my pass on the first floor and went straight to the GP's office. Two people were already waiting: a young girl with extremely angry face and a very nervous babushka. So I was tthe third and then the amily of three entered. In about 40 min of waiting I gave my passport and the invitation to the GP and in another 20 min she sent me to take my blood test and x-rays. I was done with that in 30 min. By the time I came back to the GP she was gone. She had an emergency or smth. I was told to come back the next day which I did. Saw the same people there who came to get the results. I had a quick conversation with the therapist. No questions about drugs, no getting naked. She told me that my x-rays and my blood test were fine. She asked questions about my medical history but since i had never been really sick we were done in less than 10 min. I took my sealed envelope and went home. The impressions are positive.
Good luck to those who will have their medical soon.

laughing.gif Jeff, that's really funny. I think we all can relate.

Slim, I'm a sports freak. And I watch anything with refs. And I do drink beer with friends whenever possible, but I find myself so busy lately. Haven't actually spent time with the "boys" in a very long time. If Sasha gets her approved visa on friday, it will be a glorious day with plenty of hoppy ale flowing from pitchers, in the hands of toothless women wearing orange shorts. Hmmmm, bet you can't guess where I'll be! laughing.gif laughing.gif

Thinking of you guys and a successful interview tomorrow!!!!

Thank you very much. We need all the encouraging support we can get right now. That means alot to us.

Good luck at the interview tomorrow Sasha! and Jason!
Here's hoping is all goes easy and smooth.

Thanks! we're feeling pretty good about it. Though we did notice one little last minute error. But it shouldnt keep us from getting the visa. good.gif

I actually took my wife there to fill out an application as soon as she arrived. Although I'm still not sure where you're talking about. (It is about time for her to go back and fill out another application. She had work visa issues back then, got that nice green card now, so should be no questions..... hmmm. I know what we're going to talk about at dinner tonight!)

Well, believe it or not, I'm not much of a drinker while I'm here at home. But as soon as I arrive in Russia I'm like an honorary alcoholic. but I swear its not my fault!! Well, i drink beer here, but thats about it. But in Russia its all hard liquor. And its soooo hard to say no to people who insist on celebrating and toasting. I have a lovely case of Old Speckled Hen in the fridge. Will be sipping on that until the interview.

Jason don't sweat. My fiance only sent me I-134, employer letter and paystubs. When the embassy people asked why I didn't bring tax returns, I reminded them that they were optional and paystubs should be enough. No problem!

In reality, my fiance's lawyer advised him against sending his tax and SSN information to Russia, for security reasons. Enough said.

Very helpful! Thanks alot. I'll still send the W-2s. But I feel much better now.

Whew....Thanks Slim. Feel a bit better now. I just searched for the poverty guidelines and found that for a household of 2 the 125% requirement is only $17,112. seems so low. Its for 2007. But the bottom of the form says these guidelines are good until the spring of 2008 when they will increase a little. I made plenty more than this, so all should be good. Glad to hear that W-2 is all that's needed and not transcripts. I think I'll file as single for 2007 just to avoid any problems later. I'll be mailing the I-134 and other documents to Sasha next week. By then I should have my new W-2s. I took the last two months worth of paystubs, letter from employer, original birth certificate, original NOA2 to Moscow with me. So she has all of these things. All I need to send her now is the W-2, I-134 notarized, more recent check stubs, more recent letter of intent.....am I missing anything?? She has recent photos together, a ring on her finger, recent boarding passes and itineraries.

Just hoping I have everything. You say to keep an extra copy of her vaccinations for adjustment later. How do you do this? Isnt it part of the medical exam? Those documents are sealed and not opened until the interview, correct? Again...thanks!

Hmm... let's say you are working in Russia and therefore don't pay US income tax, but want to move back to the states with your spouse... how do you get around this requirement?

Good question! You know, Sasha and I have actually considered this idea in the past. And we decided against it simply for the tax factor. But in the event that something should keep her from getting her visa on Feb 22nd, I am going to pack up and move to Moscow. And this question has come into our conversations several times. I think maybe Slim can help with this one.

Paging Dr. Slim, Dr. Slim could you please come to the information desk?......

Hey Slim, that has me thinking.....I was still technically married for the first couple of months of 2007. (my divorce hadn't been finalized yet). Does this mean I can still file as married for 2007?? Just wondering. Since I'll be getting my W-2 next week. Which is great because I made plenty of money in 2007 to support my I-134. 2006 was not so friendly. So, thankfully I'll have good tax history for 2007 for Sasha's interview. I've been stressing this a bit. But it seems I'll have the documents in plenty of time to send to her before the interview. Also, since I am working in the service industry and most of my income is from gratuity, I may owe money to the government. I claimed almost everything I made in tips because I needed my earnings statement to reflect I made more than the required amount. So, I'm kinda thinking I will owe money. If this is the case, will I need to pay when I file? I mean I know I can pay Uncle Sam over time if needed, but I wasnt sure if the embassy will require that I have my taxes paid for 2007, not only state what I was taxed on my earnings. Does this make sense to you? My wording is probably all screwy. Say I owe the government a cool grand. Will they send me the return document without being paid in full?? I've never owed before, mainly because all of my earnings were not claimed. Usually I receive a return. But like I said, this year I claimed damn near every penny. Or will W-2 be good enough on its own? Do I absolutely need to have the transcript for the year also? And will they give me this transcript if I owe them money? Do you think I can have what I need and send it to Sasha in time for her interview on February 22nd? If not, I'm simply going to have to go with the W-2, paystubs, employer letter, etc. Thanks for any info you can give... or anyone else for that matter.

I think all of us here know that feeling all too well. I'm a huge wine fan (not be confused with wine snob), since i sell the stuff everyday. I can drink cabs and pinots all night because its just so good. But the one thing I hate is the headache the next day. Usually the headache begins even before going to bed. I can drink vodka and whiskey and feel pretty good even the next morning. But red wine.....forget it. You're lucky to live where you do for the varieties of great wine. We have the same selections from all over the world, but it costs more.

Apparently, the interviewer at the consulate was a little put off by the fact that they started dating long before the divorce - i.e. there was some suspicion of a home-wrecker situation.

Again, I'm perplexed. They're supposed to only ascertain that the relationship is real and that the beneficiary won't become a public charge. There should be no moral impositions made on the case at all. Crazy.

Kirk, you are more than welcome to drink your girlie white zin, but you have to do it straight from the box with a long tube. Like a wine-bong. tongue.gif laughing.gif scotch is better but I prefer American whiskey over Scotch whiskey. Scotch makes me forget where I live and how to use my face. Hahaha.

Kirk and Roger, thank you very much. I was surprised myself that it took so long. She was just asking and asking. She even asked about our age difference and if we are comfortable with, diferences in our education, etc. But she was respectful.
The interesting thing is that the night before the interview i read the interview experience of some Russian girl on a Russian web site and she said that they didn't give her visa at once because the consul didn't like the fact that they started dating when her american fiance was still married and that he didn't pay alimony to his child. So the girl was asked in a rude manner to bring the document from the court that this american fiance and his ex had an agreement about this alimony situation or smth. And this girl also described this lady-consular and it seemed that i was interviewed by the same woman. And Jason and I had the same situation, we started dating when he was still married but legally separated. I did tell her everything in detail about it and she was satisfied.
Thank God, it's all behind us.
Sasha

CONGRATULATIONS kicking.gif Natalia and I wish you much success and happiness.

Interestingly, Natalia may have spoken to the same woman on the forum for Russian women. If it is the same woman, she did get her VISA about a week later but only after her fiancee provided proof of alimony payments. Apparently, the interviewer at the consulate was a little put off by the fact that they started dating long before the divorce - i.e. there was some suspicion of a home-wrecker situation.

I think its exactly the same woman. The bit about dating before the divorce was final definitely made me think it was the same woman. Anyway, Thanks alot for congratulating us. We'll be pulling for you too!

Sasha, this is WONDERFUL news! Congratulations! None of us had any doubts at all that your interview would be successful, but now it's come true. I'm so happy for you both!

Have to say I'm surprised that it took so long and that she asked so many questions. This is the first I've heard of that. Usually the interview is about 3-4 questions long and it's over. You didn't wear your "Kiss Me, I'm a Green Card Scammer" shirt did you? laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif

First off, big CONGRATS!!! to both of you! Feels good to be "done" with this now, huh? Now the real Visa Journey begins. But, you guys have lived together in the past so you'll be fine. Glad to hear you're coasting along... and can't believe time is flying by. It's like people put their interview dates on here and they're six months out or something. Before you know it, those guys are giving advivce to the newbies because they're already done. The VJ cycle. It's like the circle of life.

OK. Now here's my theory on this woman interviewer who asked all these questions....

1.) She's a woman so naturally she's more nosy and wants to know all about everything and everyone.
2.) Sasha speaks pretty good English so it's a lot easier to have a 15 minute conversation about everything (it was in English, right?)
3.) The previous case with the divorce/alimony/no visa thing was probably denied on other grounds as well, unbeknownst to the girl that posted the story. Maybe she was actually going to get the visa but went into the interview nervous and unsure whereas Sasha was confident and appeared in charge of everything, including Jason's past... and future!
4.) Maybe the woman just got a good vibe from you. (Picky, emotional creatures. Who knows what they're going to do?)

Either way though... who cares? You got the visa, good for you! Now enjoy the rest of your lives together!

Slim, you always have the right words for everything. You rock! we've really needed all your advice and encouragement and you've always been there. I think you hit the nail on the head with your observations on the interview. I'm so proud of Sasha. She did a great job.
