QUOTE (Nini & Bee @ Oct 30 2007, 02:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just looked at this link here:

http://www.police.go...cc-overseas.htm

Are you saying that the HK police department won't issue you a "certificate of no criminal conviction" due to your minor record?

Wouldn't you then be able to authorize a disclosure of your record to the consulate instead, in lieu of the certificate?

Yeah, I thought they simply wanted a copy of the police report. Whether there are any convictions or not. You should be able to defend yourself or at least explain everything during the interview. But you really need to have that report for the interview stage. Just my opinion, but hey, I haven't gotten that far yet.

Glad you like the current headgear. You have already guessed our next look. Keep a look out as soon as 17 March passes! laughing.gif

I expect to be pretty scarce for a couple weeks when she gets here, but I do get to post from work so I'm sure you won't be rid of me that easily.

I'll register my unhappiness with the lack of "International Women's Day" bonnets one last time, and move on. I'm eagerly awaiting the "Southern Belle's Month" (April) wigs and bustiers though.

Now that would be awesome! I think they would look great in these. I never heard of Southern Belle's Month. I learn something new here everyday. good.gif

You know, I dont trust any male OBGYN doctors. Too many cases of inappropriate behavior by these doctors. In Russia, medical staff can get away with making crude remarks, sexual jokes, etc. Not in America. They'd be sued immediately. It's sad that Russians have to just go along with the norm and feel humiliated in these situations.

Look in the Book of St. Luke, chapter 11 starting with about verse 42, and keep in mind that a pharisee is a lawyer.

How many of you submitted the paperwork yourself compared to hiring an attorney. I know most of the claims that the attorneys make as far as speed and easiness is false. I still will do most of the foot work and gather the documents. They only type the documents and pretend to expidite the process.

By the way, I hate attorneys. The bible does not speak well of them for a specific reason.

I also heard in the news that it was a new law but i doubt it will actually work in the next couple of years. They claim that when you are in an airport ready to leave russia and when you have an unpaid credit or smth like that they wouldn't let you leave but i really doubt that would happen. At least i never heard of people stopped in the airport because they owe money to some bank or government.
Personally, I took a loan from a bank just once and i paid it back. Don't really want my parents to deal with it when i leave the country.

As she lives in Sochi (Krasnodar), where can she go for the Medical exam, and how far ahead can she do this? Do we need to wait for the interview date?

She will have to go to Moscow for her medical as eekee said but she can make an appointment with them only after she knows her interview date. As I know they won't let you do your medical too early. I did mine 4 days before my interview in AO Meditsina. I also know that girls who don't live in Moscow prefer to do their medical one day before the actual interview in MOM because there they are given the result the same day and girls don't have to come back to Moscow twice for medical and interview. In AO Meditsina you get your results the next day.
Sasha

I think someone posted recently that they got their results back from AOM the same day...but maybe it was an exception and not the norm.

Some people do get it the same day but it's really an exeption. I know some girls who asked to get them the same day but they were not allowed to. So if you want to get the results the same day i would go to MOM, just to be on a safe side. Besides, i couldn't even finish my medical in AOM in one day, I had to go there twice.
Sasha

Thanks yet again, Sasha.
Contact details for MOM, please? I have it already for AOM.

You can GO HERE to get the contact details for all the clinics. I would not recommend sending her to MOM. They have a pretty bad reputation for the treatment of the ladies. They may have their attitudes adjusted and the problem may be fixed now, but why take the chance?

I agree with Robert. I wouldn't go to MOM either though people say they changed all their stuff there and there haven't been any problems like that lately. Also I know that in MOM you will have to go to different buildings for every test. In AOM everything is in one building. AOM is just nice in every way.

I agree with Sasha that you shouldn't worry about them not acknowledging receipt of the approved petition. They may even have it and just don't have it "logged" yet. Either way, I don't believe that there is any point to calling them. I've always had good luck with email correspondence with the Moscow Consulate.

This is true. Using the "DHL trick" I was able to track my petition being sent from NVC to the consulate. The consulate received the DHL package on March 5th, but they still have not "received" it into their system.

Another thing that may or may not be worth knowing is that on the same day NVC send your physical packet, they transmit an electronic copy. I don't know what all is in the electronic copy, but if NVC tells you that the consulate has received your packet, make sure they distinguish between the electronic copy and the physical copy. I fell for that the first time I called. The electronic copy, from your perspective, is worthless. They won't schedule an interview or send out the packet until they have the physical copy received into their system.

Also note that NVC doesn't seem to realize that it takes DHL 3 days to deliver your petition to the consulate. The lady I spoke with this morning said that it was much too early for me to be checking on status, as my petition was certainly still in the mail. I don't bother arguing with them anymore.

QUOTE
According to the DOS, the way the process should work is like this.

> embassy receives approved petition
> embassy sends out packet 3
> beneficiary returns completed forms
> upon receipt of visa application, embassy sets interview date and sends out packet 4

NVC told me the same thing, but I believe they are misinformed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but there is only one packet that goes to the beneficiary. Once Moscow physically receives your petition into the system they schedule the interview and send the packet out at the same time. There are no completed forms the beneficiary has to send back. She just has to bring the forms with her to the interview.

I think you shouldn't worry about it and try to call them in a week or better have Tanya do that because it's just so much cheaper.
When I first called the embassy it was a week after NVC had sent the documentation to the them. They told me that the consulate hadn't received it yet. I called again two weeks after and they told me that they had the douments and that my interview was scheduled and in 5 days I got my packet 3. So, to answer your question, they schedule the interview right when they receive the docs and you can find out the date of the interview before you actually get the packet.

A kid comes home from school with a writing assignment. He asks his father for help. "Dad, can you tell me the difference between potential and reality?"
His father looks up, thoughtfully, and then says, "I'll demonstrate. Go ask your mother if she would sleep with Robert Redford for a million pounds. Then go ask your sister if she would sleep with Brad Pitt for a million pounds. Then come back and tell me what you've learned."
The kid is puzzled, but decides to ask his mother. "Mum, if someone gave you a million pounds, would you sleep with Robert Redford?"
"Don't tell your father, but yes, I would," she replies.
He then goes to his sister's room. "Sis, if someone gave you a million pounds, would you sleep with Brad Pitt?"
She replies, "Omigod! Definitely!"
The kid goes back to his father. "Dad, I think I've figured it out. Potentially, we are sitting on two million quid, but in reality, we are living with two sluts."

I thought this one was pretty funny.

A woman and a man driver are involved in a horrific collision, but amazingly both escape completely unhurt - though their cars are written off.
As they crawl out of the wreckage, the man sees the woman is blonde and strikingly beautiful. Then the woman turns to the man and gushes breathily: 'That's incredible - both our cars are demolished but we're fine. It must be a sign from God that we are meant to be together!'
Sensing a promise, the man stammers back, 'Oh yes, I agree with you completely!'

The woman goes on, 'And look, though my car was destroyed, this bottle of wine survived intact, too! It must be another sign. Let's drink to our love!'

'Well, OK!' says the man, going with the moment. She offers him the bottle, so he downs half of it and hands it back.

'Your turn,' says the man.

'No, thanks,' says the woman, 'I think I'll just wait for the police.'

I found a good one.....

Patrick O'Malley hoisted his beer and said: "Here's to spending the rest of me life between the legs of me wife!" - and he took home the top prize for the best toast of the night.

In bed later that night, he told his wife: "Mary, I won the prize for the best toast of the night." She said, "Aye, Paddy, what was your toast?"

So he told her: "Here's to spending the rest of me life sitting in church beside me wife."

"Oh," she said, "that is very nice, dear."

The next day, Mary ran into one of Paddy's drinking partners in the street. Mischievously, the man said: "Did you hear about your husband winning a prize in the pub the other night for a toast about you, Mary?"

She replied: "Aye - and I was a bit surprised. Till now, he's only been down there twice. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come".

Man that's some tasty lookin' fish.

I gotta go with pelmeni though. Takes forever to make but it's a quick and tasty meal once it's done and you just have to pop some out of the freezer.

I actually cant stand this stuff. Well, that's a bit too harsh maybe. I just dont fancy poor grade meats in watery pasta balls. They have to be the blandest food I've had in Russia. They do not make this stuff because its sooo tasty. No. they make it because its very cheap and will sustain life. Nothing more. Its like frozen raviolis without any nice sauces.

I love most Russian soups. Even the quick stuff. Sasha lives and works in Moscow (well, for one more week, anyway smile.gif ) and she doesnt have much time for cooking. She's quite metropolitan and eats out when she can. Fortunately her taste for food ventures outside the borders of Russia. We both love all types of Asian food and fresh seafood.

I really enjoy almost all other Russian food, but this pelmeni, they can keep. I like this about as much as a nice slab of cold, hairy pork fat. Mmmm. I'm sure some of you have had this too. I'm not really impressed with Russian seafood. I live on the Chesapeake Bay and am a bit spoiled perhaps. wink.gif

I like to cook with plenty of fresh herbs and spices and this seems to be nonexistant in Russia. As is good sauces. Though they never have a shortage of ketchups and mayos in jars. Yum. laughing.gif

OOoops....... too late. Nata and her son leave JFK for Portland at 6:55 pm. Anyway...... a big congratulations and happy reunion at JFK. Are you flying or driving down to Virginia?

Funny you should ask. I was originally going to drive up to JFK and then drive back the next day. Giving us one night to rest whistling.gif in a hotel. However, after a bit of investigating, I discovered buying 3 tickets was cheaper than the gas and tolls to get there and back. Unbelievable! (1 one way to JFK, 2 one way tickets back to RIC) I've never seen prices this low. I mean 65 bucks per ticket was just too good to pass on. And this cost would have equaled the fee for her extra luggage weight on a domestic ticket, had she needed. Instead, I will fly and arrive in NY an hour before she arrives. I'm going with 2 empty suitcases. Then we can simply split her luggage up and each take 2 cases and her carry-ons. In a way, its like I'm getting to tag along for free really. AND I get to be there when she comes out of customs. wub.gif She loves long road trips. I drove to NY before to pick her up and we had a great time. So, in a small way, she's bummed that we wont have this long drive. But not me! Saved my truck the trip. I dont have to leave for NY until that evening, as opposed to early morning. Her flight is direct from SVO to JFK. So, we'll both be fairly fresh and alert to better enjoy each other's company on the 1.5 hour flight to Richmond. There were just too many pros to one con. A no brainer. So, to answer your question...I'm flying biggrin.gif

For us, it was mostly filling out a bunch of tedious forms and waiting.

Speak for yourself, buddy. I rescued my wife from a harsh life of waiting in line for bread, working 14-hour shifts in the tank factory seven-days-a-week, and walking through two meters of snow while being bothered by alcoholics that would try to rape her.

I did her a favor. I should get a medal too. If it wasn't for me and guys like me (not just the guys who did some *whooptidy-freakin-doo* tedious forms) who go over there and literally scoop these girls up off the streets and put them into nice apartments with heat and running water and a stove, then there would be a whole country full of gorgeous women that would have to fend for themselves, never knowing the joy and elation of finally seeing what the inside of Bebe Sport looks like.

Give me a medal? Give me a break. The Nobel prize would be more fitting.

(Oh, and congrats, by the way! Not on the visa, but on getting the tickets changed with no hassles! You should get a medal for that!)
