US Embassy and Consulate Discussionhow does it work
I have a friend (UK) who is married to a US citizen (in the military), she is in the States on VWP.
Can anyone tell me what she needs to do to get her GC?

I cannot give her any advice as I did DCF so am not familiar with what she needs to do.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview time!!!!!!
You need to get your dad to complete an I-864 as well. You will also need to provide evidence that he is a US citizen along with the documentation requested on the form for proof of financial eligibility.

Sorry I can't be more specific as it has been a while since I looked at an I-864 (thankfully)!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPLEASE HELP!!...interview setback...dont know what to expect!
So my question is, once we return the requested stuff (mostly more evidence of relationship to try to disprove any doubt that she is moving for immigration purposes)...how long do you think it will be before we hear from them? A second interview date, or whatever? She was asked to courier it back, so my hopes is that it is expedited

This is kinda confusing, isnt she trying to emigrate to the US?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiondrug abused

can :D drinking a juice of pickles can help eliminate the narcotic drung in the body system? :D

You are taking this pretty lighthearted in my opinion Rey.

Drug addiction can and will destroy your friends life, so be a real friend and get him/her to stop and get some help.

Drug addiction and the problems associated with it will not go away just because they get issued with a visa and they move to another country, and quite frankly I think we have enough drug problems here in the US without inviting anymore!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionXray as hand luggage?

Carry it with you in your hand luggage, then put it in your closet to gather dust when you arrive in the US.

The whole point of these last few posts was to prove that they don't ask for it a POE and it is far too bulky to put IN my hand luggage! :D

Mine CLEARLY states on the rolled up envelope that it must be carried as hand luggage. I agree that nobody ever posted that they were asked for it, but if you dont have it with you what you gonna do if you are asked for it??

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTravel to the US with K1 visa
You may find that you can't buy travel insurance for a one way trip, well you can buy it, but can only make a claim once you return to the country in which it was purchased, thus makining it a waste of time buying it. When I came over I had no insurance until my husband started work. I am sure others will post what they did.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)can anyone decipher this ?

hi ,i was denied and then approved a k-3 in 2003 .the code on my visa was 212{>d}{3}{a}{2}{a}{>i}{i} can any one tell me what it meant conviction wise ,?thanks.

I think you need to start doing some work in finding out what all that means.

er , i know that ,hence the post !!

I meant by doing the work yourself. I for one would know what the reasons for denial were if I had received a denial even if it meant I had to trawl the internet to find out. VJ is a great site for helping out people, but do make a start yourself first before relying on other to do the searching for you!

hi ,thanks ,i wasnt being rude !! i know what i was denied for but the codes dont make sense ,thought i would see if there were any imm boffins who could help.

ah ok, maybe you could post as such next time. My first thought when I saw the post was that you could not be bothered to look it up yourself so asked on here.

I wish you luck if you are able to file a waiver.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Against all Odds

Non-comp clauses in contracts are pretty standard nowadays, and are rarely enforceable. You should have talked to a lawyer before you resigned your job. I had to sign one at every company I worked for in Texas, and I left almost all of those companies to work for competitors and was never sued. It happened to a couple of people I knew, but they never ended up actually being sued or losing their jobs. They just got lawyers on it and it went away, no problem.

America's answer to everything......get a lawyer!!!

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)removing criminal record U.K.
Even if you get your convictions removed from your police record in the UK, don't immigration already have a record of them that they existed? Not sure if that will help if you re-apply for a visa.

I would think for immigration purposes all conviction details would have to be disclosed spent or not.

I would certainly not grasp at any straws or read too much into wording....USCIS treat drug crimes very seriously. I would not be suprised at all if you get a denial.

Sorry, but I wish you well.... and lots of luck cos you'll need it.

I was able to get extensive calling card records. I think this is the reason behind the revocation of our petition. I provided the records to the congressman and embassy. the congressman is working on trying to get something set up with the embassy now. I pray we get this turned around quickly.

I hope so too....you two have been through so much for so long!

United KingdomP85 - Claiming back UK tax when leaving UK permanently

Ok I filed mine myself, but with the help of an accountant, who messed things up a little, but I sent in all the finished and correctforms a bout 3 months ago now, no refund just yet.

I sent mine off in December but only got the rebate about 3 weeks ago. They're not very quick...

That's not too bad, mags. Did you receive all the tax you had paid in the 05/06 tax year? If the rebate is for all tax paid in the current tax year when leaving, I would be getting a ton of money - I don't want to get too excited before I know for sure that's the case though. It should be really uncomplicated for mine - we're leaving Dec this year, and I will have only worked one job (no business and no self-employment to complicate it) at the same pay rate for the nine months in the tax year before then.

How did they give the money to you? I'd like it to go into my UK account, but I was wondering if that would look weird. I'm going to leave my current account open to make it easier to get our dollars into pounds for paying the hubby's student loan.

You dont get all the money back for that year it depends on when you stop work. For me I left my job mid May 2005 and as the tax year had only just started I got all mine back (personal allowances hadnt been used). If you leave towards the end of the tax year then you probably wont get much if anything back.

I know that when I filed my P85 they checked the last few years to make sure I didnt owe anything either before they refund.

United KingdomP85 - Claiming back UK tax when leaving UK permanently

Didn't the new tax season just begin? My fiance is worried that since he only worked a week in the new tax season, that he won't actually get anything back.

What is the residency test??

Because its the beginning of the tax year he should get everything he has paid back.
