also, the dna test part. some cases get through without a dna test being required. not sure how they determine which cases require a dna test and which don't. if a dna test is required in our case (which I am anticipating it will be), does my husband have to go to jamaica to do it? i see all these ads for immigration dna testing where it is possible for my husband to go to a lab here and his daughter go to a lab in jamaica and they mail the info between the two....but at a cost of around $600+ after shipping and lab fees. just want to be prepared for this monster we call immmigration! i have a headache already...

It depends on when his name was added to the birth certificate. If it was shortly after she was born you will ok, but if there was a delay then they may require it. You won't know until the interview if that's the case.

thanks roxie. that post wasn't much help. my questions have to do with the embassy part of it so I need someone from jamaica who has done it. from the research that I have done every country's requirements at the embassy stage are slightly different when it comes to the paperwork needed to show legal custody of the child....some need an actual court order and others will accept a notarized letter from the bio parent giving permission for the child to leave the country. i'll PM Jengles. I suppose I could call the embassy directly and ask....anyone know the number I could call to get such info?

Finesse - we didn't have either of these papers for A's son's interview last week and it was fine. They asked no questions whatsoever about his mother.

Hi yardies --

How's everybody? I just wanted to peak in and let you know that AW and I had our interview last week and we were approved. Sorry for the delay in getting the word out -- my phone was acting up and stopped working the day of the interview so I couldn't text Shemmy liked I promised. I'll write more details about the interview in my timeline, but it was a lot of waiting around, but the interview itself went by so fast that I had to ask the women who interviewed us if she could repeat our approval -- I wanted to make sure I heard her correctly!

Thanks to everyone on this board for the support and sharing of info! Love you guys!

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great and wonderful!
There is no way for me to catch up with all the happenings.

Things are going well up here in Sunny Maine! Louis' birthday is Sunday, surprise party for him tomorrow! YAY! He has no idea! Then Reggae on Sunday! I am sooooo happy it is Friday.

Louis' is working 2 jobs, he likes them.. Local Garden Center and Hardware store... I am so proud he got 2 jobs within a month of getting his EAD!
Now we are just waiting on the GC... case was transferred to CSC got touched a couple times and now nothing... I hate waiting.

So someone should give me a quick recap of whats going on with everyone. I will try to pop on more often.. Thanks Lawny for getting me here.. biggrin.gif

His Dad and I talked to his pedi and he said that the children will take emotions out on the person that is closest to them. Your boys probably are still adjusting to your hubby but give you the shyt beause you're the mom, who loves them unconditionally. They are unsure of him so they don't dare give him the shyt.

I call my mother by her first name, something my best friend used to do with her mother when we were young. My mother doesn't mind though...

She looks young for her age and doesn't want her coworkers to know how old she is. So when they express that she looks too young to have chilren our ages, she says "Those are my husband's kids." My calling her by her first name helps her keep that up.

One time, though, I called my father by his first name. whistling.gif He wasn't having it.

I called customer service back and got the same person (Barbara). I said "Nevermind" when she answered the phone, and she seemed quite surprised. I'll probably wait to call back after my Infopass appointment, and hope that Barbara is on a break & I get someone else.

Good luck Nat! I hope you find something out.

Sorry Chica - I should've pm you. Anyway, I got the details from Auntie this morning - they didn't ask Jr one single question! She just handed in the forms, they asked Auntie if Anthony was already in the US and if Jr was living with her. We had written a letter signed by both of us giving her our permission to take him to the interview. She said she waited 1 1/2 hrs and it was done within minutes.

She also said that everyone knew Jr got his visa just by the smile on his face. She said he glowed all the way home! luv.gif

Now we are working on when I am going to fly down to get him. He graduates July 1st from 6th grade so I'm trying to get there for that so I can at least take photos and videos for his MIA parents.

Anthony watches JA news every night from CVM. You can also get TVJ for a subscription of like $7.95 per month. I'm going to do that for father's day. Anyway, you should be able to find the Digicel Rising Stars on it.

Thank you SO much for this info! This was the highlight of my day. When I went to sign up at jumptv, turns out I already had an account (which completely blew my mind... I have no recollection of signing up for this. Must've been years ago).

So thanks for the photo compliments, and congrats Island on Jr.'s approval - set the wedding date yet?

I had to log on and do something and I am about to go crash - I just came home from the wake of My Mom's best friend since the 5th grade - Like my aunt - So sad, she had a brain tumor that was diagnosed about 2 years ago. She passed while I was in JA - It broke my heart to see her Husband - He got into a motorcycle accident on a Weds, and was put in the hospital - he insisted that they release him Fri am, and she passed that night. Then his brother passed on Sunday. Plus, yesterday was 2 years since my Dad passed.

My mom and I are taking turns getting teary - so I think I am going to go find a sappy movie to watch with her and crash out.

Thanks Sus. ((((Hugs)))) to you - that's alot of sadness in a short time. rose.gif

I'm still in pain. My doctor's visit today was not good. I discovered that I am still in so much pain because my spine is not fusing (not healing) together. It is just like day 1 without swelling. I could be facing long term/permanent disability. The doctor wanted to write me back out of work, but I don't want to loose my job. So, he told me to talk to my HR department and see what type of accommodation they will make for me, and he will write up all the paperwork to cover it. I cried for a long time because I just want to be out of pain. I feel so helpless. I can't do anything for myself anymore. I can't bend, stoop, lift over 10lbs...excercise...you name it...I can't do it.

I haven't seen A since August...I miss him like crazy. But, I'm not sure if I can manage to sit on a plane that long...not to mention carrying luggage and doing connecting flights to Canada. Soon, I will be starting my 5th bottle of Percocet...with no end in sight.

Ohh Shirley....I'm so sorry. Is there anything they can do to help it fuse or heal better? I'm praying for your strength and edurance to keep moving along.

hello!!

i was researching a little about the poverty levels in preparation for filing soon.
i have both a 9-5 job and a small business on the side.. altho my 9-5 is WELL over the poverty limits, my business took a MAJOR loss which puts me just below the 125% poverty level..

questions..
I am reading that most of the time the I134 (fiance visa) looks at 100% and the I864 (spouse visa) looks at 125%..Does anyone know if the Jamaican embassy follows these same rules?

Do u "think" (i realize, no one will know for sure) chances are still good if the other 2 years 06 and 07 are not below the poverty level or if they see ur main source of income is still above the levels ?

Chica, if your main job puts you over the poverty level you're good. Don't worry about the other - look at the two jobs together, not each having to stand on their own. All they want to know if that you have enough income to support yourself, your kids and RJ. Make sense?

thanks island..
but thats why i am worried my tax return would show the combined amounts for example.. $38000 from work plus -13,000 from the business equals $25000, so this is the amount they will see on my return..
but if they look further, they will see that i just had a bad loss and am actually above the limits.. just wondering if THEY will look at it like that..

or if i just don't confuse the issue and just send in my W2 for 2008 instead of the return, but i am sure that would be cause for a RFE..

thanks

Ok - I get your point. You will have your W2 from the main job so that would prove you make enough. Get transcripts from the IRS - they give them for free and then you will be able to see for sure.

I have a related question that I can't seem to figure out an answer on regarding the DS-230. So, he'll make an appointment and go to the embassy in Kingston to drop off part I of the DS-230 correct? Is part II required at the interview? But my main question is, I've read in certain forums (not necessarily K-1) that 2 passport photos are required along with the DS-230 but I can't find that info anywhere to confirm it. What did you recent filers do? I wish I'd left him a few copies of his passport pics aside from the 4 copies I left him to take with him to his medical exam. Thanks for any advice ya'll!

No photos for DS 230 drop-off - and only need to drop Part 1. Part 2 you sign at the interview. And if your SO is clear across the island, you can DHL the DS to the embassy, but that's what Culture just had issues with.

I have a scanned copy of packet 3. PM me if you want me to email it to you.

Ok - I read further and saw that Lawns has you covered already!!

Thanks, Sus! Girl, when you get ready to file, watch out ... you already know the gameplan!

Another quick question (told you I had a ton) -- will they notify me when it reaches the embassy or should I contact the embassy myself?

Unruly - you can call NVC to see if they have sent it to the embassy yet. They will also give you a new case # which will be a NVC #. As soon as you found out it got to the embassy, send the embassy an email asking for a date to drop of the DS230.

Congrats! Hopefully your boss will let you go - but plenty of others have made it through without their hubby - you could try emailing the embassy to see if they can move it to while you are there - if you can't - just make sure hubby has all the answers and is well prepared.

Congrats!! I agree with what Sus said.

I'm praying for the same thing lady. Prayer and faith definitely make a difference. A is back in Canada...can I mail the DS-230 instead? How long did it take for you to get the KNG# from NVC? I called today and of course they aren't recognizing my CIS #. LOL

I already sent you my congrats 10 different ways but I'm still singing and dancing for you!! kicking.gif luv.gif

You gotta talk to someone at NVC. K1's get put through differently so we can't ever get through on the automated. Give them a try on Monday.

All he wants to do is bring home clothes primarily for his siters and brothers so I am tempted to just pack them in our suitcases... but when we are leaving the aiport and going through customs they will probably search our bags and then want to charge us... does anyone know how much charges are?

If you are putting the clothes in your suitcase just take off the tags if they are new...i bring clothes down for my hubby family everytime i go down and they don't ask as long there is no tags...they do look through your suitcase but they won't examine your clothes...I wouldn't worry...they charge based on how much the item would cost in JA...so it usually not that much if its nothing to big...like a tv set or something...

Don't agree with the charges statement here. I took a whole suitcase of presents for Christmas one time. Had tags on and ALL the receipts. The stupid duty cost more then I paid for the ####### I took.

If it were me, I would take all the tags off and mix everything in with your stuff.

Rolling stuff in your clothes works really well too - stuff little things in the pockets. I took stuff for Jawi's SO's little girls and I rolled their little clothes inside of mine.
