Shemmy do the 4 days cruise to the Bahamas out of Orlando, Fla. You can kill two birds with one stone, visit the Bahamas, and relaxation on the open seas. Plus, you only need one other partner to share a room with, the other person can even be your daughter.

That's a good idea Roxie. That's my next big trip - a cruise that stops in Jamaica for the day.

How did the award ceremony go Rox?

Obviously I am familiar with Mahogany - Hibiscus is in the same area - they are not in town, so they might be a nice location for the wedding, but maybe not the best for people to stay at - because they aren't walking distance to places. I think you are better off giving your friends a variety of options - I did that with mine, just gave them average prices, what sites to check, etc... We are all staying at Rooms. Carib Beach Apts are at Mahogany Beach, but they are individually owned so it wasn't working when I tried to book enough rooms for all of us.

Some airlines, if you email them direct, will give a discount rates - people just need to call and give the wedding party name - I know American does - but I think you have to have a large group travelling. I just gave my friends the info - I also did their rooms, I bid on skyauction and got them cheap rates -

My thing was that I gave them the info and different options and left it up to them for their flights-

Another place you could check into is Cara/Yankeesgirl's SO's family owns/run two resorts. That's where she and her family stay when they go down and it looks beautiful from her photos. I went to the website and they do weddings right there. She has the photos [osted on Facebook - I can't remember the names of the places though. Check her for the info.

Shemmy, some of my best trips to the Bahamas has been those long weekend trips. Because if you are not a beach or casino person, there isn't much to do. They have some clubs at some of the hotels, but there wasn't much in night life.

Shemmy...I think you should just drug 'em...that way when he wakes up he'll be in a different place & have no choice but to stay until you return! devil.gif good.gif You want some advice on sedatives, I gotch u! laughing.gif

I really wanted to go to Aruba Memorial Day weekend but Mr. Workaholic said No. There's a big soul festival there...I could have been there while he visits his mother whistling.gif Maybe I'll end up in JA..

Speaking of Aruba...I watched the Natalie Holloway movie on Lifetime last night. Anyone else catch it?

I did it was pretty good and so sad. I wish he wouldn’t have thrown her in the sea. I wish he would have left her and called for help anonymously. Like what if she still was alive? It also made me see how foolish and blessed I am. I only met my SO once and then the next time I seen him he was picking me up at the airport and we wee on our way to his freaking house. Like he could have killed me and no one would have known where ta find me. When I think back I realize how lucky I really am that he was/is a good guy. Man oh man I do feel so foolish....

I also watched the movie after that where the lady got her girl back after six years. She knew that was her baby and she was right and I also watched The #1 Ladies Detective Agency. Jill Scott must have really studied hard for that part because has that accent down pact!!

I agree about the sea. Did ya catch where she wiggled her fingers just after they put her in the boat. And who helped him....the dad?? I remember when it was really happening and the scoured the island looking for her and I had the thought back then that they dropped her in the sea and the sea creatures took her away.

I watched the 2nd one too - I agree she was awesome!! And the one before the Natalie Holloway movie. whistling.gif Been a long time since I watched 3 Lifetime movies in a row. I was in the "mood" yesterday.... blink.gif

Both for baseball related activities

Sedalia, MO in August to see this singer I like at State Fair and hopefully ride a mechanical bull
I think New Jersey in December for another baseball related trip

I definitely will - PM Island, she can probably add some info - Another airport you might want to look at, especially if you are going to rent a car, is White Plains (HPN). It would be about a 2 hr drive or so to Cooperstown, about 30 minutes or so to NYC - But it's small and easy to get in and out of -

Sus is right on, as always. good.gif Albany is about 1 1/2 hrs from me, but on the other side of the state for the stadiums. White Plains is closer to the stadiums, but farther from Cooperstown. Let me know when you firm up - I would love to meet up with you. Bring Dillon in your pocket too.

I don't have much to say today....just feeling a bit down about this whole process at the moment. I'm not even sure my SO accomplished what he needed to when he went to the embassy and not hearing back from them is getting to me. I've already covered all the bases as far as what everyone has suggested so it's just hoping and waiting now but we seem to be delayed for some reason. I can't bug them every day so I just have to try my best to be patient. I've tried asking my mister about details when he went there and from what he tells me, I'm not sure things happened as they were supposed to. Oh well, I'm just throwing my hands up for right now. sad.gif

Hang tight Chica, it's only been a week. They won't email you unless they have something to say. Chances are you won't hear from them until he has a scheduled interview date.

for me it doesn't matter. i am from a country that doesn't let you forget because no matter where i go there is nothing like it. It was hard to read what i wrote and not tear up because i sometimes get jealous of family members when i called them back home. saying to myself you are where i want to be.if only for a short time.

i know they feel different because they wouldn't mind trading places to get the experience of foriegn life, but they wouldn't know that nothing compares to yard and the essence of just being there. It's magic

jamaica is very small compare to the US and when we are home it's like we can feel the embrace not just from family but from friends. There's alot more to relate to back home and the feeling of belonging is greater than anything we will experience. No matter how bad things are we can still eat by picking a fruit here and there and drinking water from stand pipe.No matter how bored we get we can just stand at the corner and watch mad or sane people do funny things. No matter how broke we are once we reach out someone will give us a hand or a ride to where we want to go.No matter the war and violence the music and the rhythm let us forget if just for a moment. We are always warm and the chilly time doesn't last long enough to change our mood. It's like a cocoon that no matter how much we fight to get off it the memories take us back home.So we shed tears for just being on the soil and that's why we cry or stand and pause for a moment when we get out of the airport. The air is breathtaking and the feeling is strong enough to get a pleasant reaction.WE are home.

We talked about this last week. I don't know the answer...so A is headed back to Jamaica in about two weeks. I am actually a little worried now because my DS-230 beat my paper file to the Embassy. He said his family just keeps staring at him trying to take one last look at him for awhile. unsure.gif

i can't speak yet, i'm still in jamaica
but i know of a lot of ppl who left jamaica as professionals
and pretty much had to start at the bottom in the states because generally, work experience from certain other countries is not always well respected
so alot of ppl i know go there and start over as housekeepers, bus drivers, store clerks, etc.

about the money part, very few ppl i know have gone there and not made the kind of money they imagined they could make
i suppose everybody always feels they could make more money but most ppl who have left have been FAAAAR better off within a year of being over there

To follow up on that Bunz, do you ever hear people say they regret the decision of leaving Jamaica even though they had to start at the bottom again?

Hi Ladies!!! I have a question (don't I always have a question when I come on here?).....for those of you who's men are here, what are they doing for work? Are the opportunities what he had expected? Are they making the type of money that they imagined (if they imagined it). Has there been disappointment with the job market and the salaries?? Is is easy or hard to find work? Any of the men going to school?
For those of you who are waiting for their men, what are your or his plans for employment? Have you done research on that? Are you waiting til he gets here to think about it? Just wondering!!!

I'm in the waiting category - every week I read the job market in my local papers and keep a running list of companies that I see would apply to him, some I would never even think of. I have been working on setting him up with odd jobs in the meantime even if they are not his career (such as painting our office, bussing tables and doing set up at the hotel I work at, etc.) I also have a honey-do list a mile long.... but being able to work is a big issue for him, especially since he is leaving a good job in Jamaica.

As far as the schooling goes, we will see what else will be needed. I have heard that some people have had to take the GED test to get a US diploma, even though they graduated in Jamaica.

Hey J, remember my all back cat Rudebwoy the sweetie? Not Warlord the Five Star General he had a white spot ( he was crazy I took him to the shelter he was doing unholy things!) Well Rudebwoy passed away last week crying.gif this is why I am trying to find another Kittie to cuddle with. Papito's (he was my baby with the white feet) Mom just had 3 kittens, my neighbor is taking care of them now, I can put in a good work for you for one of them. good.gif I'm so glad you are going back during the Holiday. We will never forget Hurricane Gustav will we ? rofl.gif

Philly, while I don't know what you remember about Gustav, that hurricane DEFINITELY is permanently etched in my memory.

I flew to Jamaica the Thursday it was scheduled to hit there, against the wishes of EVERYONE I know. But that was the trip where I wanted to see how serious things could get with my SO. It was during that trip (my 4th to Negril in less than a year) that I became 100% sold on him and our future. I love how we were confined to the hotel while the power/water were out. I still tell him that I want to "play Gustav" which means isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. Fond memories...

SO! I get home from work and check the mail and to my EXTREME delight, I had a letter from USCIS! I started jumping around and screaming! kicking.gif biggrin.gif kicking.gif I was SO HAPPY about FINALLY receiving my NOA2.

I opened it, and it was merely a notice that they received my change of address. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif No touch on the website.either.

Awww...Nat, what a let down. Sorry Girl. crying.gif

Love the hurricane story though. luv.gif

I will DEFINITELY try this recipe! But I'll substitute almond flour for regular, Splenda for sugar, nuts (or nut butter) for choc chips, and heavy whipping cream/water for milk.

Nat - why all the substitutes?

lol... Because I think that I am insulin resistant, so I stay away from things that raise my blood sugar level too much & cause the pancreas to release a lot of insulin. That's why I use nut flour (finely crushed nuts) & Splenda instead of flour and sugar.

I'd substitute the heavy whipping cream cause I don't keep milk in the house, but usually have cream. I'd substitute the choc chips because, strangely, I don't like chocolate chips! Even in cookies, I like the chocolate FLAVOR, but not the chips. Give me a sugar or peanut butter or oatmeal raisin cookie over a choc chip cookie anyday (except for these days, as I'm avoiding sugar).

Got it! Where do you buy nut flour? I've never heard of such a thing.

That's what I keep trying to tell him too. Of course he won't believe me until it's done. no0pb.gif

This is some of the 'adjustment' stuff I was wondering about the other day. Like having to make room and thin out our wardrobes among other things. My mister keeps saying he won't have much to bring either. But then I told him, you better bring every article of clothing you own cause the only thing I'll be able to buy right away is warm stuff. Everything else will have to wait because this is a lot of $$$ output! If he were to come with nothing, that would mean a whole entire wardrobe to buy him.....NO SAH! laughing.gif

Of course your daughter was picking stuff she liked....but at least she was thinking of him too! yes.gif

I couldn't imagine starting my warobe over from scratch, especially when I cleaned out some t-shirts that I had since the early 90's! But I've heard many say it so it must be one of the dreams bout farrin - new home = new clothes. But you're right, we could all get lots of new stuff for what all this costs.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

Morning/Afternoon Yardies!

My mister's medical is tomorrow morning and poor baby is so nervous. He keeps asking me what things to bring and who he has to ask for when he gets there and where it is and what they're going to do to him. This is going to be a big accomplishment for him when he's all done with this. yes.gif

Ditto what Sus said up to the partying. Since it was great weather here this weekend my kids and I did tons of chores around the yard, cleaned the house and my son scrubbed the winter season out of the car. I cleaned out 3 bags of stuff from my closet and dresser so A could at least have a section and two drawers.

I have been really hush about Anthony coming to my kids and family until I was sure. I told my kids on Saturday and my daughter has asked me at least a dozen times "is he really coming?? I'm so excited - I can't wait." As if the wait isn't hard enough - lol. We went grocery shopping on Saturday and she had to pick up lots of extras "cuz she knows he would like those".

T, you're giving me inspiration to do the same since I really need to. I was able to de-clutter a little this weekend but it seems to be a monumental task. However, I need to focus on the closet and drawer space for my mister as well. Maybe that will be the project this week in the evenings.

That is so cute about the grocery shopping and picking up things he'll like! good.gif yes.gif luv.gif

He'll be just fine. When it's over he'll wonder what he was so nervous about!! good.gif

Well Dillon told me I had to make at least a lil room for him! yes.gif He kept telling me he wasn't bringing anything so I said ok, just wear my clothes then and I won't have to clean my closet. He has since decided he would pack a bag.

She was cute..now mind you she was picking up all the stuff SHE liked....
