ooooohhh yes that would be great!!! When I google the airports in Peru and I googled Sayulita, it doesnt give me a detailed map. please please please send me some info. It would be very valuable info. I am going with friends who are a couple and the boys have to surf as its their "lifestyle" lol. So we have to go to a surf vacation. but, as long as the boys are happy surfing all day, me and my bff can be off doing something else instead of laying under the sun all day waiting for the hubbies to come in.

thanks to Visa Journey, I got my GC w/o any RFE's and I know more than an immigration lawyer.

Im done with immigration docs for now and I can afford a trip this year. Initially we are going to Peru. But... I'm taking other great ideas. I dont know anything about Peru except the beach we want to go to is unknown to google map. Its making my research quite difficult.

I sent my husband's employment letter stating his hourly wage & how long he's been with the company and what his position with the company. I also sent the 1040's and W2's for 2 tax years only.

I got the I 693 medical form done. I didnt want to risk an RFE. or maybe I should have! to buy time and I would've had my interview after my 2 year anniversary. hahaha

the next day we went to the county hall and got a marriage certificate. unfortuneately we had planned for a january 10 2009 wedding, but i went back to canada to get my dogs and that's when the "your not allowed into the usa" bs started. we have been separated ever since january 2010 now and still not married..which is why i guess i'm emo this month

hmmm my husband proposed on valentines weekend and he wanted to go to the city hall the following weekday. I told him i wanted at least a family or friend to be the witness so we waited 3 weeks.lol. But, i never had problems crossing the border as a fiance or a wife. But, they always grilled me with questions and i made sure to answer them w/o getting into details cuz that just leads to more questions. There was 2 or 3 times where the officer told me I wasn't allowed to cross the border. i would disagree with them and start mentioning a bunch of the forms and i was really persistent too. i guess mentioning the forms by their numbered names just confused them or convinced them that they can't trick me! im a VJ member! LOL! i had to travel by bus one time as a last minute trip for christmas and I had no return ticket and that was the only other time i was close to being denied entry. I almost cried in front of them. i told them i would never "just" leave my awesome job to steal the american jobs while the economy wasn't doing well.

so the lesson... prove to them that you're coming back to canada & not moving illegally

Omg. I saw a guy with one of those in the mall once and I freaked out because I thought he was smoking. I started making loud mean comments and Bill stopped me and basically called me an idiot. He had a stand and was selling them, so I really should have realized what it was. Sometimes I am an idiot...

My husband and i were going to buy those! good thing we already spent our money for Xmas presents. I totally fell for it but my hubby wasnt too sure with the "inhaling taste" LOL. the hubby said it wasnt hitting the satisfaction. lol. We did the math, and the benefit for this is just less nicotine. but you are still spending the same amount a month for your habit b/c you have to buy the cartridges for refills which cost about $60 if you are a f/t smoker. not to mention its $150 but they will give you "discounts". so really... its like $100.

What is with Tequila??? it's a mind killer for sure. .

PS

I dont know but Canada has so much more options as to shots. I swear i think im allergic to vodka. the only other shot i like is superman and a lot of bars where im from dont have the liquor to make it. so the only safe shot for me is tequila. it makes me dance a lot.

tequila makes my hubby awnry. i try and get him to take other shots. but when we first met and he bought me a drink, i asked for a shooter and he ordered what's called a spider bite. has anyone had this?

the tequila they use is quite disgusting by itself (Tarantula) and you have to take it with something else to drink it. but it was fun while it lasted. I can't drink that stuff until summer when we actually feel like drinking.

CanadaVancouver Clinic: Adacel/TD Booster
QUOTE (Carlawarla @ Aug 26 2009, 04:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm not saying you're wrong, but unless something's changed, I didn't need to get any special booster. I just had a Tetnus booster. My last one had been over ten years ago, so they just gave me another. End of story. I've never heard this mentioned here on VJ before. The link you provided doesn't work. I'm wondering if maybe where you went they just had trouble knowing or finding that specific vaccinations. Maybe when I went for my "Tetnus" shot, it WAS the Tdap shot

Your comment about having to have the vaccinations BEFORE scheduling your medical is incorrect as well. Many people schedule their medical and either have their vaccinations before the medical, or some have even had the vaccinations done AT the medical. Did they ask if you'd had, and require proof that you'd had all your vaccinations before they'd make your appointment for your medical?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just wondering why I've never heard of this here before.

Thanks for posting! I hope you can answer my questions.

I have to agree with Carla here.

my tetanus shot was over 10 years and I tried looking for the adacel at shoppers drug and other clinics and pharmacy and they didnt have it or didnt know what it was. when i was at the doctor to get my hpv shot, there was an ad on the magazine about adacel. what a coincidence! i told her that was the shot I needed and my doctor said Alberta only had it at that time (it was April 2009) and i wouldnt find any in BC at that moment. She also mentioned that booster is fairly new (?). I emailed the medical clinic and told them I could not find adacel and asked them if i can just get it at their clinic b/c they said they may be able to give me some vaccines if I cannot get them. But they said that it's ok if i cant get adacel b/c it wasnt available in BC at that time so I can get the regular td booster. i read on VJ that someone got their Tetanus Shot redone (the first shot you're suppose to get) b/c it has been over 10 years since their first one and they passed the medical. So that's what i did and it was free!!! everything was fine and I passed the medical.

But with my medical appointment experience, I booked an appointment before i completed my vaccines - i just didnt tell them but made sure I got all before my appointment. i wanted to book my appointment early on b/c i heard it can get full. they said they have to book 2 weeks in advance but i manage to get the next week. To book an appointment, you dont have to show proof of your vaccinations. You have to answer the following questions to book:

Your preferred dates, Wednesdays only (we book about 2 weeks in advance): I wrote ASAP.
Passport Name (the exact name on your passport):
Application Name (the name you applied under):
Gender (Male or Female):
Date of birth (MM-DD-YYYY):
Chicken Pox. Choose One only:
***I think there was an option here about date of when you got the Chicken pox vaccination - but since I had chicken pox when I was a kid I chose this option:
I had Chicken Pox Disease in this exact year:
Interview Date (the date of your interview if your appointment is in Montreal):
Contact phone number (optional):
Confirmation. **** you had to state this at the end of your appointment questions to book it.

Jill - we paid for half of the hotel fees for our guests (basically we paid for 1 night). we had to pay for everything first to book the rooms and they had to cover the deposit when they arrived.I had 1 MOH and 1 bridesamaid. My hubby had the same. 1 groomsman and 1 best man. We had 4 more BM and GM each but we had to cut back on the cost. Granted my bridesmaid werent so cooperative and had to cancel on the trip. that pissed me off after planning the transportation and where they would stay. I was going to have them stay @ close family's house so everything was close to me on the day of.

We had them wear somewhat of a matching outfit. anything that had our theme color. Like so:

it was a laid back wedding... after a while.. from all the frustration, i had to let go of the formalities of the traditional wedding.

Oh minnew... its funny i had this argument with my dad! lol. I was closer to certain family members he doesnt talk to and he was closer to family members I didnt really associate with. basically what i've done is i told him for any additional guests that arrive, he would have to cover the cost for them. Since my husband and I paid about 60% of the cost - and we did that b/c we wanted 60% of the say. lol. I just told my dad what the rules were @ the venue and if there were any last minute problem that I will not be the contact person and he has to resolve them whether that would be cost problems or crowd control. however, we had our reception at a restaurant so it was ok and we would just pay for the additional seats. I told everyone that the wedding ceremony was closed and invite only. I had 30 people on my list for out of towners and i had 60 people on my list for locals. I ended up with 50 ppl @ the reception. chances are, the out of towners may not make it and will send you a present or something. these were ppl that my husband last saw when he was a baby. My MIL said just to send them an invite and 80% chance are they arent coming.. 1. they are too far away. 2. they are not really close but my MIL wanted to let everyone in their family tree know that we got married.

I was wondering if I could get some advice from you guys. I don't know what to do for centerpieces! I've been looking online at pictures and I can't find any ideas that I just LOVE, so I have all these ideas in my head and nowhere to go with it. I want something kinda dynamic and interesting looking but not crazy and over the top. I don't want traditional floral centerpieces, infact I'd rather not mess with flowers at all. Something with candles and vases...? unsure.gif Any good ideas?

check out this website. you might find something u like. http://www.uprightdecor.com/ they are right across my work and we have used their centrepieces before and stole some of their ideas. lol. since we are an audio visual company we dont really do decor but we implemented some ideas to save money, we used L.E.D. lighting at the bottom of a vase (can be any color or even your own theme color). got a clear vase (square), and filled it with water and u can put pebbles in it if you'd like and we added curly twigs. (we also spray painted the twigs with silver paint) and its not so floral but still looks nice. we used it for Gala Events. it will look something like this with the water being lit up by the L.E.D. light.

oh yeah. im not sure if anyone has suggested this yet. but go to Michaels http://www.michaels....art/online/home

Thanks! That's actually a really cool idea. I'm trying to think of how you would put LED lights under there...

Huggles.. where are you located? i can search for a manufacturer or a retailer that can provide it or even an alternative lighting.

CanadaAOS'rs...

Border: Im not sure if thats the whole reason for it... it could be that Dr. Arnold was also retiring the time I got her to do my medical, so maybe she didnt keep up with her CS status. Anyway goodluck to you. If you do get an RFE, there is a thread in the AOS forum about doctors who dont rip you off for vaccine transcription. Thats how I found the one in Bethesda.

Unfortunately i got my I693 transcribed by Dr. Arnold around the last 2 weeks from her retirement. They also made a mistake on my address so I had to send it back to them for corrections and the date on my I693 is mid December.

well if i get an RFE at least I know where to go to get it done for $50. there's only one civil surgeon in my county and she costs $350. im in Washington state and Tacoma civil surgeon have the cheapest I've seen so far plus transcribing I693 is not new to them which is a plus!
coldwatersurfFemaleCanada2010-01-11 12:27:00
CanadaAOS'rs...

I should NOT have received any RFE because what I did (submitted a I-693 signed by Dr. Le Arnold) was perfectly legal.

:( i hope i dont get an RFE. i didnt label the sealed envelope as I693. i just sent it the way Dr. Arnold sent it to me.

Canada2010 Tax thread - For Canada and the U.S.

Ok so I found this tonight (doing Varba and my US taxes)

*
If you are the nonresident alien spouse of a U.S. citizen or resident alien, you can elect to be treated as a U.S. resident in order to file a joint return. In this case, you can take the foreign earned income exclusion if otherwise qualified.

Note: A nonresident alien is generally not subject to U.S. tax on compensation for services performed outside the U.S. Thus, under the dual-status rules, aliens would not report their foreign earned during the non-residency part of the tax year. *

So, I got one last pay cheque after I moved. I only claim that amount?

I am still non-resident alien.

Im assuming you're filing joint return?
you will file all your 2009 income. Use form 2555 to exclude your canadian income and use form 1116 to take a foreign tax credit.

If you do not want to report your canadian income, you must file dual status which does not allow MFJ (married filing jointly) and many other restrictions. (i was going to do this but its one of the most difficult tax filing. My accountant didnt even want to do it.

Canada2010 Tax thread - For Canada and the U.S.
I finally hired a tax accountant to do my taxes.

He prepared form 1040 with form 1116.

But, I'm pretty screwed with IRS due to the fact I had to include all my 2009 income (yes, even the one before I moved to US). It turns out, my "worldwide income - canadian income of 4 months" before I moved put me in a higher US tax bracket and I have to pay additional taxes to IRS - I've already paid my Canadian taxes on it!!! I made over $10k. I still feel like I'm double taxed. I dont understand this logic!!! Accountant says If I only had my US income included, I wouldnt have to pay any taxes. I am not eligible to exclude this income. My accountant says this is just how US taxes work. But then again, i filed Married filing separately. I still dont think it would have been a benefit to my husband if I filed joint. I would probably decrease his return anyways.

He also didnt include the EI in my 1040 at first which had a zero taxes paid to IRS. then I brought it to his attention that dont i include "all my 2009 income". When he added my EI, it brought my income to a higher tax bracket and I have to pay $120 to IRS.

I dont know. it sounds all fishy to me that I have to pay additional taxes when i already paid CRA. I don't mind paying taxes I owe, its the fact I feel like im double taxed. Is this even correct?

Here's a useful tip I learned in the restaurant kitchen last week.

One of the girls were using Kiwi to marinade with the meat she was preparing.

There is an enzyme in kiwi that tenderizes tough meat

I tried it and the beef was easy to take apart, i didnt even need to use a knife. Try it!

CanadaDon't you love it when...
i'm going on my 3rd week of living in Washington coast. Last week my van's rear wheel bearring was completely shot and my husband was driving the van w/o me in the vehicle. I'm so glad he is safe. he said he almost got in a wreck. This weekend, he spent the whole day fixing the back wheel so I am able to be mobile and dont have to stay home anymore which was really starting to drive me crazy. He didnt know anything about fixing the bearrings. we had his dad come over and his mom's bf helping us. there were metals melted on 2 parts of the wheel. anyways, it took my husband hours to heat them and grind them and just to separate em and break pieces off the melted parts. Gosh i was ready to give up and i told him i'll buy a new whole part and hub but my husband didnt give up. and he fixed the van. he is awesome. and since i couldnt drive my van for the past few days, he has been trying to win my decision to learn driving a stick shift which i resisted until today. and he taught me how to drive stick shift in case of emergency and i cannot drive my van. lol. it was a good day today. and happy mother's day.

CanadaThe IRS/CRA Income Tax Thread

You don't need to file anything in Canada. HRSDC already took the 25% non-resident tax out. You must claim the EI income, but you can take the 25% non-resident tax as a Foreign Tax Credit using Form 1116.

CRA and IRS do talk to each other. If you don't claim your income and the IRS finds out some day, you will get charged the tax you would owe, plus penalties and interest from April 15 2011.

So i spoke to my tax acct. unfortunately, the guy that helped me last year doesnt work at the office anymore so someone else is helping me and she has talked to other offices near the border regarding my taxes. They said It is voluntary to file my T4E b/c it is "passive" income (it is 4K & 1K in taxes)??? and I dont need to ammend my taxes to include my T4E. Is this right? ...... she also said, if i ammend my taxes, my income would increase and I will end up paying IRS even with 1116. I stayed in US all year. I have no ties to canada. But, this is confusing. i thought I had to report all world wide income. Is this true that its voluntary? if it is, i'd rather not report it since the best situation for me is not to file it.

I hope someone can help me out. This will be my 2nd tax year in US and I thought I was done with CRA but I guess I made 4000 in EI in 2010. I already filed my 2010 US tax a wk ago. Does that mean I need to ammend it? I just received my T4E. Last year was such a nightmare for me. After dealing w/ 2 accountants that didn't know anything and thank god for visa journey, I was able to do it by myself and didn't have to pay anything like the 2 accountants told me. I actually did it perfectly and IRS thought I did it wrong then 2 months after I filed my 2009 taxes, IRS changed their mind and gave us the total money I calculated the first time.lol.

So anyways... Back to my orig question... What do I do???

i know this has been answered on the thread but i have spent days looking over this thread and have finally sent the thread to parents from both side of my family and one of them is stumped. My dad is in canada and can file my canadian tax but he is also trying to understand how to file US tax since my husband's mom just gave up (and has talked to 4 other accountants who refuses to touch my taxes). I only made $6K in US. urgh this is so frustrating and it sucks no accountant can help me with this...

Anyways... please correct me if im wrong..... I lived in Canada until April 24, 2009 and entered US with K3 Visa (I didnt get my green card until this month). I worked in Canada until April 2009. I worked in US from August 2009 - December 2009 and I also collected EI.

Canada Tax Return
* my dad is filing me as part resident and filing my T4 and EI tax as normal

US Tax
* filing as resident for tax purposes only and filing form 1116 for the taxes I paid in canada along with form 1040.....

I am wondering what I should say (or not say) at the border. I just hope they don't stop me saying I cannot bring the car at all without the compliance letter. I will check with our insurance agent here in Indiana to see if they will cover the car, even temporarily... Wish me luck.

oops i missed this part. yes you're eligible to get insurance on your car. I called Geico and they said they will cover it for 6 months. BUT within 30 days of starting your insurance with them, you will need to have a State license and give up your canadian one.
