US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpolice clearance report from Vancouver...need to find checklist
yes I understand where I can get it and what not. But what I do not understand is how can some people receive a clearance certificate without a letter/document from the consulate and/or etc.?
I only have the NOA2 and im waiting for my DS3032 which NVC said they are sending very soon. So does this mean i have to wait for the packets to arrive and thats what I'll be showing to the rcmp/police?

hopefully someone can post a link of a checklist that I can show the police record clearance department? Apperently, I need to show them a checklist. But I want to get a head start with ordering my record as their mailing timeline is 12 business days. The lady says what a lot of ppl do is search them on the Internet.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVancouver Consulate Question
ok my interview is tomorrow and i should be going to bed but i just cant laughing.gif i was freaking out today about the I134 so I decided to email the consulate (and i was kind of annoying and asked them basically the same question. lol. like i said i was freaking out)

this is their answer:

A K visa applicant and any accompanying children must meet the public charge requirement of INA 212(a)(15) like any other visa applicant. Evidence of support is usually requested by the consular officer. There is, however, no absolute requirement that an affidavit of support or other public charge documentation be presented. It is only necessary that the consular officer be able to conclude that the alien is not likely to become a public charge.

Applicants may submit a letter from the petitioner's employer or evidence that they will be self-supporting. The Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be required when the consular officer deems it useful.

CanadaFINANCIAL DEPRESSION :( CANADIAN TRANSITION TO US SYSTEM
i feel ya on the car issue. i have my car on lease and torn if i should purchase or transfer it. Since I drive cross border every week, i'm not too far away from my limit for my allowable km so i dont really want to return it and get dinged for charges. if i transfer it (luckily i have families who want my car as long as its in good condition), i have to fix some vandalism and a hit & run that occurred (cuz people don't know how to drive in snow.. blah) before i transfer or move it to US. i should be lucky i have claimed all of them but with all the immigration fees and reception expenses, and thinking about moving expense coming left right and center, the stressful part is waiting for things to happen and when will i be employed and how can i get a job with the economy so sh***y. i wish i can control time. ahhhh! ive been so good about telling myself to take it one day at a time but its not working anymore

Yes, they honestly do care at the border. Ask anyone here who's been interogated by them just how much they do care!

What border driver is describing, I'd be very careful. My brother was working with a hockey program up in Colorado years ago and he would spend 3 months there, come back, spend three months there, come back for a week...

Well, he eventually got caught and while he wasn't barred, they told him to stop doing what he was doing or the next time he went up to colorado they would put a ban on him.

Again, can I just say that spending more time in someone else's country then your own is suspicious. Unless you are a 55 years old and a snowbird, I don't see why you would be spending time (as a visitor) in someone else's country without having a reason for doing it. If you don't work or go to school or have any type of residence you live at in Canada, then it appears that you are living with someone in the US then.

To me, it's not about the exact number of days. It is all about how it looks to US BP.

EEEKKK. Thats crazy! i'll tell those people i'm not going to give them rides anymore. thanks for the insight. i also figured out how many days i was spending everytime i visit US in the weekends. it is well below 180 days. whew.

coldwatersurfFemaleCanada2009-03-10 21:51:00
Canadahow do they know?
I travel every week across the border and i do ride shares as well. This is what I have gathered from all my rideshares who travel quite often to the US and other canadians working in US that I know. as far as what they've told me, they have to exit before their 90 days is up.(maybe the days amount have changed now). so what they usually do is come back to canada for a week and return to stay again and it is a cycle they follow. In my experience, I have been crossing the border for 1 1/2 years almost every week and holidays (leave friday & back monday). I'm sure that amounts to over 180 days i guess in a year. lol. who knows. but i have never been asked about the amount of days and if i'm not allowed to enter or not b/c of some limited time. I dont think CDN or American border really care. What the US border patrol want to know is that you have to have a great tie to Canada and that you will not immigrate illegally to their country and that you have the intention of going back home. I have gotten in trouble once for crossing the border w/ my I-130 pending and i have proven that I have no intention of moving earlier than allowed and i've always told them I'm only going to be there for a weekend/holiday. As for coming back to Canada, i dont think the Canadian border give a ####### at all. they rarely ask for my passport or scan it. All they ask is how long I've been away and what my purpose of my trip was. (and of course the tabacco/liquor question).

I also have a regular passenger that is a permanent resident in US (but works in Canada) and she says she needs to complete certain amount of days for her US citizenship. Apparently whenever she exits the country, the days she is out of the country is counted against the days for her completion date. I asked her how the gov't would even know. She says sometimes the officer scans her ID/passport/PR card. sometimes they dont. She can only assume that her days start from the day of her POE, and she'll know when she's completed the days when she's notified by US gov't.lol. i guess she doesnt really care much. maybe the border only care when you "fly" to another continent for a certain period of time. This probably didnt answer anyones question but i just found it interesting and weird and confusing. lol. i dont know if i should believe it. lol

Canadayay! got my K3 interview date. I need help preparing for the move!
haha i am driving myself crazy. i've got a notebook full of notes but sometimes i forget to write stuff and remember later on and i get distracted when i remember something else and drop what i am currently doing. lol. Plus my reception is happening this weekend so ya you can say i need a day off or two. lol

Thanks for the bank info. I've been trying to find a free bank transfer instead of doing money transfers (which is $25 per transaction with my bank... wow). I will read up on that.

I wish i can get an SSN right away...... im K3 and need to adjust my status.

As for Gardasil... I'm going straight to BC Desease control @ their STD clinic. A friend told me that they offered him all these free shots when he went there for just a check up. They told him about HPV shots too and he said its worth to check it out. AT this point, i'm ready to save as much pennies as I can. My husband has medical but i dont think we are covered. sad.gif

I knew there were going to be a lot to do when i go through the K3 process. But at this point, i learned to go with the flow and just do everything I can to prepare.

Thanks for the info

Canadayay! got my K3 interview date. I need help preparing for the move!
Im so excited. I faxed my documents yesterday and I emailed Vancouver consulate to inquire if they received it and if i have an interview already. I gave them 7 dates in april for an interview. My interview is on April 9th!! woohoo!! but that's not too far away. I have been packing and trying to sell everything I dont need to bring with me. i still have a lot to go and trying to minimize the boxes. lol. So i need help from K3 applicants who already made the move. I need to cover my butt as I wont be able to cross the border for a few months.

* I am leasing my car and transferring it to my dad. Not taking the car with me. too much hassle and I wont have income coming in for any of that.

* Should I cancel my Provincial Medical right away?

* I talked to my creditors and they agreed to hold my payments for the next 2-3 months with no penalty fee!! luck is on my side!... i just have to make bigger payments until i have caught up or start collecting some money or when i can collect EI. (which i doubt since im K3)

* Speaking of Credit, how do i build up my credit when my husband cant even put me on his bank account b/c I have no SSN. The bank said i need a SSN to have a joint account (debit/credit)????? any thoughts? I have a joint cell phone plan with him. does that count towards my adjustment of status evidences? lol

* Banking: Should I leave my bank card with a trusted family member? i need someone to make payments while i am gone. I spoke to some canadian banks and they said i cannot do email bank transfers to US account. Can I transfer funds with my paypal?

* my mother in law called the clinics in their county today and Gardisil costs $171 per shot!!!!! that's crazy. but it cost $147 per shot @ Walmart here or $430 or something if i get the set. And I need to complete it before I go through my AOS. Ok i guess i'll just get all shots here. But would the doctors allow me to get all 3 shots in a short period of time? is that allowed? My doctor told me that its stupid why the US immigration has to do this when I am already married and almost 26. its not even worth getting it and told me to have a talk to whoever is in charge and dispute it as its not necessary since im married. LOL. My doctor rocks (btw she has nothing against the vaccine). I told her i have to get it. US law and all that. lol

* Any other documents I should bring with me from Canada that may help?

* any comfort food i should bring? i cant think of anything other than going to the filipino market b/c I've hooked my husband's family with filipino food.

CanadaHow did everyone meet their american/canadian significant others?
wow. people meeting @ WOW. that's so cool. well my bro is all over that every day its like his life. Anyways...

i met my hubby when i went to surf for the second time. I went to Tofino in Canada the first time i surfed and thought that was too long of a travel and too expensive of a travel just to surf. So i went to Westport, Washington which is the same amount of time of travel and way cheaper. turns out there are a lot of canadians that go there (we even met ppl that were from N. Vancouver which is 5 blocks from one of my friends I was with. such a small world). Anyways, at the last night of my stay, there was a girl (laura) from a couple doors down from the motel who convinced us to go to the bar b/c it was a sausage fest and she was bored watching her husband and my future hubby (lebaron) play billiards. so me and my friends went. there are only 2 bars and we happen to go to the one bar that was happening (which also happens to be the bar that my hubby's mother managed). I thought laura's husband and lebaron all knew each other b/c of the way they talked. Laura & her husband started fighting and somehow lebaron and I got in between them and tried to calm them down. Lebaron and I started asking questions b/c it seem like he knew those ppl and turns out he doesnt and he thought vice versa. I told him the only reason why i was so interested in hanging out with him b/c Laura planted this idea that he found me attractive and she told him the same thing. So that is how we started getting to know each other. The more we got to know each other, we found out that my friend who took a surfing lesson from Lebaron's Dad and i attended that lesson too just to support my friend. So we had a lot to talk about. So its a very small town but it was just so funny how everything turned out as I wasnt expecting anything and i thought it was just one wild night never to be remembered. I guess we under estimated the power of attraction. Here we are with our 1 year marriage anniversary this coming weekend.

CanadaABOUT GARDASIL VACCINE
I think when the consulate said K visa its for both K1 and K3. when I asked them if all 3 gardasil vaccination was mandatory in my case (and i explained that if it was, then I have to wait until i finish all of them to be able to book an interview-which is like 6 months!) .. that was the answer i got smile.gif

it is good to have written answers. That is definitely what I'm going to ask for with the civil surgeons when I process my AOS tongue.gif
coldwatersurfFemaleCanada2009-03-19 23:11:00
CanadaABOUT GARDASIL VACCINE
So I asked around about the ruling for Gardasil since you have to take it in 3 shots and a couple months apart.

This is what the Vancouver Consulate had to say:

It is not mandatory to have all vaccines completed for the K visa process. However, you should inquire with our panel physician for information and requirements.

This is what Laura from Vancouver Medical Lab had to say after forwarding Vancouver Consulate's answer (@ first she said it was mandatory to get all the shots before the medical exam):

that is no problem but just to let you know if you are planning on changing
your status once you move to the states and before you turn 26 you will be
required as we have inquired into this.

This is what NVC had to say when I called:
We cannot provide you with this information as we do not process Adjustment of Status at this office. You will need to call USCIS.

My husband called USCIS and this is what they told him:
We have no information to provide you about the vaccines and medical requirements blink.gif and he even asked it in different forms of questions. They weren't spillin the beans.

So I had him call Civil Surgeons in Washington. The civil surgeon office in Tacoma said:

Your wife can start the series of shots in Canada. She does not have to complete all shots to be able to apply for her Adjustment of Status. However, she should continue taking the series of shots.

And I called & emailed the BC Disease Control in Vancouver and asked them some questions, here is an answer from the email:

The two places you can purchase the HPV vaccine, beyond your family physician, is from Options for Sexual health at 731-4252 and at the Travel Clinic. We do not yet give the vaccine here as we are working on the financials to do so, but will commence soon. You are requesting a shortened series, which can be done at 0, 1 month and 4 months. That is the minimum time listed on the product monograph. Anything other than that would need to be a discussion with your physician or the physician at OPT or Travel clinic.

When I asked for a prescription from my doctor, she said it shouldnt be necessary for me to take the shots as I am almost 26 and married. It should be "recommended" by the Immigration and people shouldnt get a shot if they dont want it. it wouldnt do me any good as I wont have the full benefit as it would be another year when I turn 27. but, i told her i need to at least get one so i can get started. She is not arguing if the vaccine is good or not, she just thinks I shouldnt waste my money buying all 3 shots if i dont need it.

As for the prices in Vancouver:

I called Walmart and they said one shot i believe is around $147 each + dispensing fee if you buy them one by one. and it would be less if i get all 3 as the dispensing fee will just be one time.

Also called Shoppers drug mart and they said the shot is $161 each but to make sure with your doctor that the prescription says you can have all three at time of prescription pick up if you want to purchase all 3 at the same time.

I guess the only difference is the dispensing fee for different pharmacies.

I also inquired at one of the safeway in washington and it is approx $171 per shot.

So....

I hope this brings you guys a lot of info. I just needed to hear answers from all the parties that are included in my immigration journey. I thought i'd share it as I find it interesting from all sides of the party.

I hope this post doesnt spark up a debate. tongue.gif

$275 dollars... Still can't believe it...

I can't believe the price either! I read that it was much less not so long ago. Also, I'm from Windsor, and it wasn't too long ago that medicals were done here as well. I guess i'm a little late for the good stuff.lol

For #25, i believe it only ask for the month & year. I visit my husband every week. So I put 03-2009, 02-2009, 01-2009. I didnt have any problem with it and they booked me an interview.

As for #21 i put none or n/a. He is not accompanying me so I'm not sure if that is right or wrong answer but that question was confusing so I just put an answer which I thought was correct.

CanadaVancouver Medical & Interview
I did my medical yesterday. apparently there are others who couldnt get the tdap adacel. they just got the td shot like I did. it was fine on my tests

I got there at 5:45am. There was 1 girl ahead of me and 1 family. by 6am, there were 22 people at the gate. I would suggest to come really early. lol. I was #2 and they did our tests in groups (ie. 1-4). So it felt like it went by fast. i got out of there by 8:30am. You really learn a lot about other people's visa journey. some are getting the same visa but we all had different stories and visa process. It started to confuse me so i just made sure to stick to what process I know of.

however we all had "incomplete vaccine history." and said something about i may apply for a blanket waiver b/c vaccines not medically approprite. the other girls looked like their vaccines were complete for their age. I know mine said my hpv was insufficient time interval or I had the chicken pox disease when i was younger. Should I be worried about that?

Another girl already went to her interview and suggested not to wear anything that would set the metal off @ the consulate as the security is super strict and rude. They said they had to take all her documents out of her folder and when they were done checking it, its basically up to you to put it back together. And she said no belt buckle, no bracelet, no keys or cell phones, even if you have some metal on your jacket, they will make you go back out the door and come right back in. I found that really helpful. Im just going to wear sweatpants and sweater. LOL.

As for the missing immunizations, if she doesn't have a record of when she's had her shots, she should get her family doctor to do a titre test to show that she's had them, or she needs them. If she needs to have her shots she should be able to get them at her family doctor before the medical. Then she won't have to worry about that!

QUOTE
It depends on the immunization. I needed a Tdap, which my doctor's office did not have. If she can get them from her doctor, then that's obviously going to be easier/cheaper, but if not, then don't worry. The Travel Immunization office is within walking distance of the medical office and you can easily do both in the same day.

Some of the shots are free so i just got my shots again. People said the titre test took 10 days to get results? so i didnt want to wait that long and since most of the vaccines are covered under medical, it was faster and easier for me to just take the shots again.

As for Tdap, my family doc didnt have them (adacel)... i emailed the medical lab about this b/c i was over 10 years for my tetanus shot and the email said, "dont worry about it as you will not be able to get it within 2 years" blink.gif i have no idea what that means if Adacel wasnt available for 2 years (?). But my doctor said Adacel is not yet popular so it may not even be available for some clinics. Anyways, i printed the email just in case they make a stink on my medical exam.

And as for interview date, i requested for a thursday or friday. I requested for all the thursday and fridays for April and got one 1 week after my exam which is on a thursday. I wanted to book 1 week after just in case there was something wrong with my medical exam and i didnt want to be panicking that week. I sent my checklist last week smile.gif

I would suggest having everything the medical exam requires then booking an interview date far enough that you will be able to complete all the blood tests and vaccines required.

CanadaCrosing the Border
flames got all the info right.

I cross the border every weekend to visit my hubby. I didnt even know i wasnt really allowed to cross. They don’t really scrutinize me. They just ask more questions about what I do and where do I live in Canada. They are trying to find out how strong is your tie to Canada and make sure that you're not going to move too early in their country. This is what the guard told me while she was training a newbie. In my case, my living situation and my income showed that I have no intention of moving early and basically screwing what good things that are going for me in Canada.

However, I did get in trouble on Christmas week when there was the winter storm, and I couldn’t drive. All the greyhound buses shut down and I had to take a different bus last minute. I didn’t get a ticket for going down to US and since all the tellers were closed, I didn’t get a return ticket. I was staying for 1 week and when the guards asked me why I didn’t have a return ticket, they gave me such a hard time as I was staying with my hubby for 1 week. Plus, I told them my I-130 was still in process so the guy just gave me such a hard time for 30 mins. Of course, I didn’t know why it was such a problem and I was oblivious of what was going on. I did a little homework about certain documents and asked them so many questions and proved to them what and how my life is like in Canada and they finally let me go and gave me a warning that if I had a return ticket to Canada, it would make my life so much easier and I would be exempt from the questioning. So I would suggest to be honest as possible. They will find out everything.

If i get approved this Thursday, either way, i am visitng my hubby this weekend. but, my last day at work is april 24th. Can I activate my visa while I'm still working, out in canada? CanadaDr. Sieden just called me......
there was someone else infront of me when I went to my medical. I was #2. I was talking to #1 almost the whole time and she was really worried about everything. I think the test really freak you out and #1 was really worried about her test results. When I told her that the doctor said i was fit and healthy and i can go, she started panicking b/c she said after the doctor checked her health, he came back in the room and asked her if she was pregnant then told her good luck before leaving. So she kept wondering why he would come back and ask her if she was pregnant.

my worry was my eye test and how I couldnt read the letters until the 4th line up for my left eye. but i was just so happy that that was the last test, i forgot about it.

So .... its just nerves. If you are good and healthy... and your relationship is real , you will not be denied.

that is definitely old. The fee is $131 and that form doesnt look identical to the one they sent me. I believe that's the K1 checklist.

I just checked the K3 checklist too and it is old. it should be updated.

CanadaI dont know why I'm nervous about my K3 interview
ok i hope im not just freaking out here or losing my mind. I am reading everywhere on VJ that I need I134 for my K3 interview. I didnt get any instructions from the Vancouver Consulate about this and it is not on the checklist. I still have Affidavit of Support ready if needed with all back up documents. But does anyone know which one I need?

I emailed the consulate but they havent replied back to me.

CanadaI dont know why I'm nervous about my K3 interview
I have no idea why I am nervous about my interview on Thursday. Its at the Vancouver consulate and I have heard good things from Vancouver Consulate.

I think I am not packing enough documents with me. I just followed whatever is on the K3 checklist:

- medical
- passport
- pictures
- birth certificate
- Marriage Certificate
- police certificate
- Fee receipt from Scotia Bank
- Orig copy DS156
- Orig copy DS230

Plus other stuff:
- copy of I30 application
- I130 NOA1
- I129F NOA1 & 2
- Pictures
- Some cards (birthday/anniversary/wedding)
- copy of family plan phone bill shared by me & my hubby

I emailed K3 Dept and they said they only need the original docs from Checklist. So I am kind of wondering if I even need to bring copy of Affidavit of Support and my hubby's W2 and what not as its on the VJ K3 Guide.

But .. yeah.. im still nervous. i hope everything goes well

CanadaInterview and examination
you need to get any mandatory vaccines prior to the medical exam. If you cannot get your shots prior to the medical exam b/c it is unavailable in your area or some other reason, you can arrange it with the medical clinic. They do the Xray @ the exam.

You need to bring proof of your vaccinations, a copy of your passport, and 3 pictures 2"x2" plus the $350 fee.

As for brain injury and medication, the first form they make you fill out will ask you a ton of questions about medications, operations, illnesses, etc. I suggest emailing the medical clinic. wokingmedical@telus.net

Laura will email you an attachment of what you need to do before coming in for the exam. You can also ask her about anything... she's got an answer for everything.
