CanadaDid anyone use Dr. Arnold?
QUOTE (Tankgurl38 @ Sep 15 2009, 11:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
For anyone in Seattle who gets an RFE on their vaccination sheet.... I took mine to a US Civil Surgeon here in Seattle and she charged me $40 to transcribe the sheet for me.

Is that the General Medical Center? there's multiple clinics that I contacted but only have one name and I think that's them. They said they've done many immigration forms. a lot of them is located at tacoma. but unfortunately I dont really want to drive almost 2 hours unless I'm going shopping out there tongue.gif

I thought I'd just add this for others who have started their gardisil vaccine in Canada and finishing it off in US.

Tammy from Dr. Arnold said as long as you complete your gardisil vaccination within 12 months (guessing from when you started your first 1), you are still in a good position with the medical part of your immigration process (ie. I-693). so if you are 2 months late with your second vaccination (like I am) and I can still complete all 3 vaccination within 12 months, it wont be a problem for my AOS. good news for me.

I contacted the health department about obtaining gardisil and I found out some pretty useful information. They said, there is no such time as "being too late" to take your shots. But, you cannot take the 2nd and 3rd shots earlier than you're supposed to.

Now the hard part is searching for the cheapest price for gardisil and getting a prescription w/o getting charged an arm & a leg. So far, getting gardisil at Safeway & Walmart is $165 if you don't have insurance. I am still getting used to how outrageous the costs for medical is. I was avoiding going to a doctor in US but now I really need to, just to get the prescription for gardisil. darn it!

hmmm i guess its up to Dr. Arnold if he will go ahead and transcribe my vaccination for me or not. I hope he can just go ahead with it with me being 26 yrs old and married for 2 years. it really sucks when I'm at the cut off age and if I have to spend $300 just to get 2 more shots plus whatever copay or doctor fees I need to pay just to get the prescription.
Im slowly accepting the inconvenient medical that US has. i miss canadian medical

I wonder if anyone has been in my situation. hope someone has an answer for me.

So I just turned 26 on August. I got my 1st shot of Gardisil in June and I've moved to US already with K3 visa. I forgot all about my gardisil shots... what a pain in the butt.... now I want to make sure my medical I send in with my AOS application is good to go and hopefully dont get RFE. I dont mind sending in the info to Dr. Arnold. I prefer to do it that way... but...

Since I'm overdue for my 2nd shot... should I still continue with the 2nd shot & then send all my vaccination records to Dr. Arnold?

or should I just send what I have to Dr. Arnold and see if they will approve it?

when I called USCIS, they said they have no say on the medical part and its all up to the appointed doctors. When I called them about the (above) questions, they had no answer for me.

im confused.

TayRiver - that's exactly the route i'm taking smile.gif thank you for all your responses. i was just wondering what that was all about. i wasnt going to use my EAD to cross but its good to know. when I applied for jobs, the employers didn't even know what the EAD was about. all they wanted to see was my SSN which says something like "only to be used with DSHS permission" or something like that and my employers were confused and that's when I have to show my EAD

Does your SSN have only authorized to work with DHS permission? If so, and you have your EAD card now, you might want to go back and get a new SSN with that removed from it.

yes it does have the DHS thing on it. I dont think I can get that removed b/c im still K3 and not a permanent resident (haven't applied for AOS). I used my EAD to get my SSN so I dont think that DHS notice on my SSN will come off b/c i am still under a conditional visa. I may have to wait until I get my green card.

ok just wondering....

my EAD card says "NOT VALID FOR REENTRY TO US"
I have a k3 visa and plan on AOS in a couple of months
K3 is allowed for re-entry. so what does that mean for my EAD card? I am not allowed to cross the border anymore?

the spring rolls I mentioned on the very first post is a good one. the recipe i posted makes 45-50 rolls. Just double the recipe and it will last you a while. It takes a long time to make but you'll be glad you have a quick & easy food to cook. I would freeze the rest of the ones I dont use. Dont forget to use wax paper in between so they dont stick together. Dont let them defrost when you want to cook them. the wraps get super soft and you'll have to take them apart and mold them into spring balls instead. lol. learned that the hard way. Also, store them in a bag that can be frozen - not the ziploc/glad tupperwares. learned that the hard way too. lol

that's what I do as well. actually i add a little bit of onion. my grandmother in law adds a whole bunch of other stuff like olives and onions. im sure there's more. its the way that she makes it that tastes so good. i can never make mine taste the way hers does.

mmmm. cookies.

if you like to bake brownies too... try and make peanut butter brownies. I put a layer of peanut butter in the middle and/or top...... and my mother in law likes to add marshmallows on top w/ peanut butter but the marshmallows sometimes turn out to be hard when they melt and i like my brownies soft and chewy.

For those VJers that spent their time waiting to get their EAD or SSN... Im sure some of you have spent time picking up new hobbies. Mine was cooking and trying out different recipes. I dont bake so if some of you have baking recipes you'd like to share, that would be great.

I cook a lot of asian food but my family really loves the beef spring rolls I make.

Beef spring roll - probably take 2 - 3 hours to make depending how fast you mix & roll.

1.2 lbs ground beef
1 cup - finely chopped carrots
1 cup - finely chopped onions
2 tbsp flour
1 beaten egg
salt & pepper
a few pieces of vermicelli noodle (10 pieces?)
spring roll wrappers (short) - you can use long wrappers but you will have to cut them in half after rolling.

1. boil water in pan and add vermicelli noodle. simmer for 5 minutes or until ready then drain
2. in a bowl, mix ground beef, carrots, onions, and egg with salt & pepper, and vermicelli noodle
3. Mix well. When ready scoop 1 tbsp of the mixture onto spring roll wrapper and roll tightly. you can seal the edges with water. repeat process
4. Dip ends in some flour
5. Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown. (I use paper towel to drain the oil from the spring rolls so its not oily)
* you can serve with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce or the potsticker sauce. You can always eat it w/o any sauce.

CanadaOpinions Wanted
I took the K3 process mainly b/c my job in canada was stressful & hated my boss.lol. I'm glad I took the K3 Visa way b/c i was free of work related stress but didnt take me away from immigration stress. lol. it was a long hard 3 - 4 months wait to get my EAD and it took me 2 months to find a job. A part of me wanted to go take the I-130 process b/c it was a lot easier route and probably saved me money and I would have had more savings in my account if I was only patient.

But, since your K3 was rejected, you might as well go with I-130. I think it would be less stress for you (paperwork-wise). you wouldnt have to go through the whole EAD/AOS/and all of that bunch of paperwork filing. Just be patient cuz a little more time away from your spouse will be a lot less work for you in the future.

Keep in mind, other ppl have been going through this over a year. (i met a bunch of others from my medical exam that were still waiting for 8 months to over a year!) 6 months will feel like a year. but once I moved, I realized i was overreacting. lol

CanadaDual Citizenship? allowed or not?
Yay! i knew I could do dual citizenship. but ppl keep asking me if im dual but I dont really know the proper process and I didnt know if there's a formal form that needed filing to recognize me as dual.

thanks for all the response. The law office I work at doesnt even know anything about immigration. uh... they thought i'm an american citizen cuz i married an american and so does most ppl Ive met.

coldwatersurfFemaleCanada2009-10-15 01:44:00
CanadaDual Citizenship? allowed or not?
so what is the right answer?

am i allowed american and canadian citizenship or not? someone told me america does not allow dual eventhough canada does. and someone else told me this:

"when you apply for citizenship for USA you will verbally denounce your canadian citzenship at the ceremony to obtain american citizenship as long as you dont write a formal letter to the canadian government that you want to give up your citizenship as a canadian you cant lose your citizenship."

so what is the real deal people?

I think I know what you're referring to... isn't it just those clips they play BEFORE the trailers even start? I don't mean commericals when the lights go down, then the trailers then the movies? It's the clips before all that, if you're early to the movie. If that's what it is, go right when the movie starts tongue.gif

that's what i thought too. I dont remember the ads/commercials before the trailer to be so emphasized in Canadian unless it was before the ads. Cuz that is usually when they focus on Canadian film industry. i ALWAYS have to be there before the trailers. my hubby HAS to see the upcoming movies. i dont know what movie theatre just focuses on Canadian culture. Maybe i just never pay attention and love playing their questionaire movie games. and I spend quite a bit in movie theatre, both american and canadian.

Are you sure it wasnt a holiday... like Canada Day? lol. it is coming up very soon. Like when Christmas, everybody stocks up on Christmas stuff and massive ads 2 months before.

my vent of the day. - BAD HAIR DAY
i went to get a hair cut yesterday. i get really nervous with new hairdressers. im always loyal to my stylists that save my hair. i always have the victoria beckham short bob. so i asked the lady if someone in the salon can do that style. they say yes. i sit down, i tell her "see the texture i have in all sides of my hair?? i want exactly the same style but shorter". so she cuts my hair shorter. but does not flat iron it to get the full texture style. she wets my hair with her spray while she's cutting it and when she is done w/ my cut, she takes the robe off and said im done. i have wet hair!!! its a $25 for a wet hair! i was so irritated, i just wanted to leave and not have it fixed the way i wanted it. i figured she will just butcher my hair. i have never walked out of a salon w/ unstyled hair and pay that much. yeah i didnt tip her. i should have picked the lady with the purple hair. at least she has personality and cares about her hair.

Thanks everyone for your support.

I talked to my hubby about it. I told him how I felt. Like arabella said, i will start keeping a list. I think that's a good idea. I looked up the volunteer jobs in town and its mostly helping old people and red cross type of stuff. I'm not good with health volunteer. But I'll keep looking. I started paying more attention with my fitness health. I think I have to leave the house before my husband wakes up. Once he wakes up, he wants to do spend time with me but doesnt want to go for a run w/ me. lol. Its just getting my #### to stop being lazy. I also told my hubby I want to make a table and fix this old dresser and re paint it. so I've created some new hobbies I want to do. and I've been wanting to get back into my old teenage size. haha. i used to dance for 15 years and stopped 3 yrs ago (b/c of work.lol). But I was on facebook last night and saw this ad for Jazzercise which looks exciting and I actually saw a banner of it in town so I really want to try that.

You guys are right about the time off too. I want to take advantage of it. I just need to learn to get used to having all this time to myself. lol.

I wish I had a job w/ annoying coworkers.

i have been in US for 4 days. I have nothing to do. My unpacking is almost done and all my daily chores are done quickly. i feel lost and when i talk to my family in Canada and ask me how I'm doing - im just fine, i dont really feel any excitement or sadness about moving here. Just blah. I think b/c i have been itching to do something - like a 9-5 thing and now i have all this time in the world and dont know what to do with it. I have lots of people telling me to hang out with them when ever I have nothing to do but i dont want to sit and just "hang". I guess I'm a little depressed about moving out of my comfort zone and a little lazy to do anything with anyone. My husband says I'm able to watch tv or watch movies all day now. but I want to be up and at it and doing something. I already know where everything is in town so not really much adventure there. AAHhh! this is a workaholics worst nightmare. I am not used to this. And I want to show my happiness to see my husband everyday but i just feel blah! Any advice from anyone?

Im not venting but more like I dont know what else I can do to help my friend and I'm now leaving and I hope everything is ok w/ her. I feel bad for posting this but hmm. maybe some of you could let me know what I could do as a friend.

the owner of the company i used to work for is a d*ck. I think he is good at getting business but runs the inside part of his company terribly (staff, inventory, and anything the customer doesnt see). He is a paranoid freak and will wake up at 1 am to go check on a show b/c he doesnt trust the guys on site. But his gf was career driven and when i first met her she was great. Now I have grown close to her b/c she works @ the office and she doesnt get paid regularly. she gets paid a couple of hundred a month and since she is living w/ her bf (my boss), i already know how he thinks.. he thinks "i pay your boarding and living so you need to pay that back by working for me".... I know this nothing is every free w/ my employer. I work in events and have connection to get into venues. I used the company name to by pass line ups and door charges. He said it was ok and whenever he needs me to do something that's not on my task list (like use my car to pick up something b/c they forgot it at a show), he would bring up how the company brings me benefits.
Anyways.... there are some serious personal problems between them and plus they argue about work b/c they work together and i have tried consulting my friend to stop working for the company(for basically NADA) and continue on with her career she badly wants (which is politics) - for god sakes.. she was chosen as top 40 under 40 & she's 23 yrs old (ppl who are under 40 yrs old who have done incredible achievements in the community). She feels bad to leave him b/c he is a wreck and i have told her that is the path he's chosen and she cannot help him & she's already tried. I feel like I've given up on her b/c she knows the right move but i guess when you get on that part of the relationship where its totally dysfunctional and you cant see the clear reality and you're stuck in that situation b/c of some dysfunctional emotion. I care about her so much and empathize w/ her and have tried to stop her from my personal experiences but it seems like she could not give herself any confidence. All i could do really is listen b/c i know its important for someone to listen to her to vent - i was in this situation years ago and i was a basket case.

thanks girls. i guess its different every other place. I really love the people in Westport, WA. There are many canadians that go there for surfing in the summer and have met other canadians and still carry on that friendship in Canada. I've also met a community leader for the things I'm interested in like dancing and a filipino community (which I was shocked to find out there's even one.lol). so I do well getting around and networking.

Its when i try to get a bank account, or car, or PUD stuff, or any fed./gov't/municipal/district/etc policies and rules. Its like they're really screwing with us on purpose. Here I am thinking American's are so much more relaxed and etc, especially when I talk to my American friends and our #1 topic of conversation is how much Insurance in BC is a rip off & scam and their DMV is like a walk in the park. yeah. boy was I wrong. I'm really hoping that its like skiing - its harder to get used to in the beginning and you progress faster after.

I guess i should be lucky my husband and I had a talk about where we would be calling our home - Port Angeles, WA - which is right across from Victoria, BC & a ferry ride away laughing.gif I told him there's no way we're going to live far from Canada and the mountains. haha and of course he doesnt want to be far from the ocean.

"just like that" b/c he is sick of the stress. its not even our fault!!! He cant stop working or just relax. He emails everyone at like 1am!!! and calls me after hours (but i stopped answering his calls and ignores his rude messages) he already cut most employees hours down (that we actually need at work). He is not paying some staff b/c he thinks they didnt do a good job and dont deserve to be paid or paid the amount they worked or deserve. he threatens everyone's employment if we dont change or mold ourselves to his views. And on top of that we are not even hit by the recession!!! and he had to cut my hours down and take my commissions away so it screws up all my reception plans and immigration plans. And any problems that rise up even the smallest things like a paper on the floor is sitting there for 1 hour sets him off. I feel like im going to get fired soon. He is like a ticking time bomb and I feel like its putting so much stress on having to get my visa fast b/c i'm sure he hates everyone even tho he needs us right now, he's not thinking right, he wants to make a drastic change in the business and one person who is his right hand man is the only person that is standing up to him (on behalf of everyone) and he is the only one holding the company together basically. I told the 2nd boss i preferred to get my CR1 visa but he told me if the K3 arrives first to just take it b/c its about to get even worse as he doesnt know if the owner will blow up any time or do something crazy. gggggrrrrrrrrrrrr. talk about trying to transition my life. Anyways. thanks for reading my babble.

I'd report your company to the labour department in Canada. I'm not sure what you have worked out with him as far as your contract, whether you are salaried, hourly, work on commission, etc. but there is only so much they can do to you before they are violating labour laws.

QUOTE
Wow, this guy DOES sound like a ticking time bomb! I think it's time to talk to him one-on-one and let him know how you're feeling! He might not even be aware of how his behaviour affects others

He is very aware of his actions. that is why he is barely @ the office and works from his home to avoid everyone (even his gf who he lives with who works for the company knows this). She goes to the office b/c he's always unbearable to deal with. He avoids daily conversations with most of the employees. limiting it to "hey hows it going" to "have a good day". I want to put a complaint to labour department but I'm so tired of putting up with him, i dont know if i have enough energy to put a complaint, possibly have employees treat me a certain way b/c of the complaint or whatever. Plus i'm leaving anyways. do i really want to go through a battle when its already a wreck? i dont know. i want to do something but at the same time i have to many things on my plate. i just dont know what to do. i just want my visa to be done and over with so i leave.

I'm not trying to be a dickhead here or anything but if I'm the government, and you're on food stamps, I'm not going to let you bring someone to the US and be responsible for them.

Yeah! I agree with treble to a point. This is what I thought. But, I was thinking about this just in case my husband gets lay off. 200 ppl already lost their job where he works and rumors are there are more lay offs this coming fall. It is a scary thought. I am now here, but I cant work. so I am a bit worried.
