Middle East and North AfricaCAN SOMEONE HELP ME
About his birth certificate you will have to get him to get more orginial copies preferably at least 3, you should also have him go to the courthouse and get at least three original copies of your marriage certificate as well, those are the two big ones which requirements are for originals.
I only say get more original copies of birth certificate because you will have to send one to NVC. I never sent an original or copy of his birth certificate with the i130, I just sent a copy of his passport....

Good luck

Middle East and North Africainternational calls to Mena countries
I use nobel enjoy prepaid international calling card with my verizon family share nationwide plan, just have to call an access number and you can set it to automatically enter your pin on the enjoy prepaid website. Direct dialed international calls from verizon run in the 1.50-2$ range for MENA so I'm definitely not doing that, I had that option disabled so I wouldn't do it accidentally. My text messages to jordan cost 25cents ea. to send and receive so I don't know if you were talking about a verizon prepaid plan or what...
nobel enjoy prepaid diamond plan calls are costing 11cents a minute to jordan mobile, they are very clear and fairly stable. Plus I get billed per second and have no access or weekly charges incurred. Also, only charged when the call is answered.

Middle East and North AfricaPrayers Needed
Oh my, I'm sending my sympathy... or empathy. Really, I feel tears come to my eyes at the idea of losing a father. I'm confident he is in a good place, and I pray that you use and accept all the love and resources you have at your disposal to get you and your family through this loss.
May God be with you.

(hugs)

Middle East and North AfricaSpouses going home to visit and coming home different
eek! Hubby hasn't gotten here yet but I do worry because he has told me a few times that if I would move there or somewhere ME he would be happy, he is really worried about the culture. And if he gets worried about something then I would be neurotic. He's said a few things that make me really worried, like about where he doesn't want me to work, which from his idea seems to include just about everywhere.
But glad to know that some guys adjust well, I just know it's going to be a bit shocking for my hubby and I live in a conservative super small town. But you know when they think tank tops and shorts are obscene well, it's not gonna be pretty.

And about him coming home different, just HOW different do you mean?

Middle East and North AfricaCairo Interview Experience
Thanks for sharing all that! Congratulations! And what will be your first american meal, stateside? smile.gif
Also, I second the importance of pictures, hubby's CO was all about the pictures and asking where they were taking, which family members are which at the wedding and so forth.

Middle East and North AfricaIf you could go back...
I'd ask him exactly what it means to 'raise your children islamically". I wish I could get some functional answer to this from my husband but honestly he only knows about islam from his father and what guys from the cafe answer... not exactly nice to not know at this point. It's a big BIG issue, as raising children islamically here in america seems next to impossible. Has anyone noticed all the sex and kissing spread all over the tv and popular cultural activities and advertisement. No subtlety at all anymore... even I'm not comfortable, even I'm scared. Once a real muslim man thinks about it he'll consider it scary, and if he hasn't even lived he yet his comprehension is like a murky shadowy old mans tale of horror....
mmm Lovely!

Middle East and North AfricaNew members going thru Jordan
I'm not new but not really "in" the crowd so much. But I'm Mariah and my husband is Amer, and he was born and lives in Amman (Quewesmeh) Jordan, but with the dreaded Gaza stamp, making him a citizen of nowhere and effectively a "prisoner" in Jordan. We married in July 08 and I was in Jordan with him until September, my 8 yo daughter has a 2 month summer visitation order with my ex husband so I was able to spend time there and we went ALL over. I also visited him there again for 20 days just over a month ago, which was nice but made it harder to leave and harder to deal with the seperation all over again after I was just about used to it.

He's a refrigeration and sheet metal fabrication specialist there and I work as a licensed nurse here in a nursing home. His interview at the embassy in Amman is in a few days now and I'm a nervous wreck.

Middle East and North AfricaPut me a list with the really necessary things we need in our place.
I don't know about the pots and pans, the ones I've seen there are CHEAP, I would definitely bring your nice saute pan if I were you. I almost brought my 12 incher when I did my last 3 week trip to Jordan because I hate cooking my eggs and such in those cheap aluminum pans. Also, I personally like to shake my salt and pepper, so if you do too then you should bring shakers. Bring a spatula for sure...

What should he get? hmm smile.gif if I were making a list, I'd say dishwasher, washer and dryer, water cooler.... and definitely a stove and oven with automatic ignition but that is totally wishful thinking. You never knew how wonderful you had it. All the things we take for granted and people there never imagine to use it....
Oh yah and if you are there for the summer, AC and fans are necessary, FREAK OUT if you don't get those, because you might die....seriously. Well at least I almost did WITH them, but I'm a northerner. Oh yah, and tell him to set up a shower curtain (he'll probably have no idea what that is unless he's stayed at american hotels), can you imagine they take showers all exposed... the steamy heat evaporates into nothing it's so awful.
Don't forget your shipship... wink.gif have fun.

Oh Henna Rose, I didn't know the 'eye' symbol had something to do with the 'evil eye' which is the common expression for jealous passive agressive or overt hating behavior over there. I watched bits and parts of this series called "the arrival(s)" which you can find on youtube which go into some of that 'eye' symbol that we have over the pyramid on our money. It is a sort of documentary which ties in a bunch of truths and evidences which.... added together come to rather startling 'doomsday' sort of conspiracy. There are like 40, 10 minute episodes so of course I haven't watched them all, but what I did see was definitely interesting and ... worrysome.

Some people say that the 'eye' symbol is for the Bilderburg group which some people believe are behind the federal reserve and actually are controlling the country and possibly the world. If you like to go down those paths then there is plenty of info all over the web about it. wacko.gif Better look it up sooner than later, before we go the way of China... whistling.gif

Sandrila, I'm thinking yes, his dad is jealous but not OF him. He is jealous that his son wasn't happy with the life he made for him and wanted to leave at all. Also, jealous that he wasn't spending all the time there at his home.
Also, not sure about a better life. I think they are a bit worried about his religion when he leaves, as his dad used to always push him to pray, and while I too hope my husband submits faithfully to his religion, I think that it has to be his own heart or Allah that brings him to pray all five times. My husband says his father just doesn't understand him, but I can see how they are more alike than either would admit. But really, his father is SUPER strict and SUPER old school muslim guy. I say SUPER because it's definitely to a surprising degree even to other more 'liberal' family members who are still conservative practicing muslims. His father wanted to pick my husband a wife just like he did for his other 5 children. My hubby just never wanted that and it was being pressed for 5 years after the 5th was married and sent back to Gaza. His father has even stated that my husband is useless and told him he's not a man compared to his eldest brother. Ugh, I just wish they would come to peace with each other.

Ohh sorry if I was oversharing there..... blink.gif whistling.gif

Funny about the 'evil eye' thing, I think my husband is oblivious to the evil eye same as me. I just go about my days feeling happy or sad about what I've got and I'm happy if someone else gets something good for themselves so I never consider someone else would get all twisted up about wanting what I have. Why does it seem that this MENA culture lauds jealousy/envy so much!?!

Sandrila, I would definitely not let my daughter go, I'd tell her she'll have to wait for us to make a trip together and offer an amusement park asap as a consolation prize. And I'd try to talk with the ex to get him on the same page, if not, I'd pull my trump card and just be the meanie.
It would be different if you knew the parents very well and knew that their morals and methods were similar to your own, but other than that it's just not... gonna happen.

Just finished with my hubby.. it makes me sad but his dad is being a real... hard rock. He is not really speaking with my husband at this point, it's hard to figure out why he would waste the last days he has to spend quality time with his son for at least a year in a parental tantrum.

Morning everyone smile.gif Waiting for hubby to come online soon here after he gets cleaned up from work, trying to comfort him. He was worrying about the 'swine flu' and saying things like tell your family they better not eat the pig meat. Yes, as if it's caused from eating pig meat.
Today, I have more cleaning to do to prepare room for him.. and I think I'll even dust my bookshelves!

I'm just really sorry that you are going through all this, I pray that you find peace and healing...
I had to leave an abusive husband before and I know it's so so so hard emotionally. At least you are the breadwinner and can keep your house and things. I just hope you take care of, and forgive yourself.

Hiya! to all the couch people and those who recently jumped off. I came to offer some of my birthday cake and let everyone know that my husband did indeed arrive safely and had a relatively easy time with the IO at JFK POE. We still haven't received his SS# or actual greencard in the mail yet. He's still exp culture and landscape shock. He told everyone "there's so much green and water! everywhere!" and he asks about everything "what does it mean?". Anyway, we are making the most of the limbo time by visiting all my favorite scenic spots and hiking trails. I found a place to buy halal meat too. Something I should have thought about before he arrived for sure...

Anyway best wishes for everyone, and congrats to all who recently got approved.

Hi all, congrats to childress and thank goodness for Moh to get the quick AP. And Emily... wow that would have been pretty shocking to get a call from the consul.. wow.
And yay! Lisa! Did you cry when you got to hold him again?
And wow Amanda, really amazing pictures, you definitely look like a star quality couple.
Did you guys get it figured out yet Jackie?
Flowers, sounds sweet, I loved hurghada even though it's extremely small. Anywhere on the red sea is amazing though.

Sorry to anyone whose post I overlooked.

And finally, if anyone noticed that I fell off the radar... my darling, cherished, precious, but wretchedly punctually deficient husband missed the deadline for predeparture arrival at the airport by about 15 minutes and wasn't allowed to board his first booked flight. They said they already sent the DOS information and boarding was closed 1 hour and half before the departure...I was rather traumatized. So anyway he paid a 200$ fee and rescheduled and happily he's in the air now. But I'm not relieved until he's navigated JFK and I see him in Pittsburgh smile.gif

Peace out to all, I'm almost off the couch.

Oh Jackie, that sucks really bad, but I knew of a guy who had a gov't contract in Jordan which he had to abandon to accept his visa. He later had his friend in the ministry get him released from the contract and there were no penalties for him.
I really think that it would be far easier for him to escape from his contract than for him to be able to change his visa but for some reason I thought they were good for two years from issuance. Also, I think he would have to get advanced parole to leave for an extended period however I do think it is possible after he applies for adjustment of status to not be seen as abandoning. Other than that I don't even know who you should be asking if he can extend his visa, honestly I never saw or heard of it but you could try Dept of State. I found their email......
usvisa@state.gov

Moh, I'm so sorry to hear that you are in AP, however I've been seeing some people get approved within two weeks, maybe it's something simple like that, inshallah.

Welcome Emily, thanks for sharing your feelings, I hope you get resoluction soon too.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow many Passport Photos?
unsure.gif When I first read directions for K1 Visa I got it in my head that you are supposed to send 4 copies of passport photos for each petitioner and beneficiary. I assumed that they would attach one to each of the 4 copies of the 325a. But now as I read it, I am thinking that they only want one passport picture of each of us. I am about to file and I want to make sure.....Please someone let me know.....
Thanks for the help.....We really appreciate it....
