US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 question
Let me just mention I did read the FAQ's, I did do a search, only to get some weird threads, and I may have asked this before. But since I am looking at the form and filling it out as I sit here the question has re-appeared.

Question #11 on the I-134 asks if you intend/do not on making contributions to support..blah blah fiance...

It then says if you checked INTEND to make contributions state how much or in what form and for how long.

Now, it appears to me that if I check Do Not Intend, then I won't support him but if I check Intend, then what one earth do I write for contributions and money???

Does this make any sense? Please help if you know the answer. Many Many thanks in advance!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSelf Sponsorship

"Bank statement showing present balance of applicant's account, date account was opened, the number and amount of deposits and withdrawals during the past 12 months, and the average balance during the year."

I've managed to obtain the first two requirements in a statement from my bank but they've told me they can't provide the other information. They've said that if I work out the average balance and amount of transactions myself, they'll stamp it for me. Quite a lazy response to the request methinks. I'm not sure if a document created by me but stamped by the bank would be sufficient for the embassy. Has anyone else had the same problem with their bank and ended up just providing bank statements (which is what I'm think of doing)?

not sure.

My bank had no problem printing deposits and withdrawls. They printed, I highlighted, they stamped and signed it.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDrivers License in NC
Alright so the bottom line is that our DL office was wrong! As I knew they were! I got in touch with someone from the STATE office and they pushed everything through into the local office here.

Do not let them tell you this isn't possible, thank you and have a good day. Because that is wrong. Chris got his temp DL today and his new DL will come in the mail in the next 2 weeks. However it does expire in a year so expect to go through this ####### again in a year!

So good luck...any questions just ask. I have loads of details but honestly they are to moronic to type!

My DL will expire in December. I am planning to go to Mooresville where I got my DL last year. I'm afraid they wont extend my license too because I only have the NOA and Biometrics appoinment letter for Nov 20.

Is there anyone here who had successfully renue their license by just presenting letters from USCIS???

QUOTE (ajames79 @ Oct 31 2009, 12:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So were you able to get your License? We are in NC as well. My husbands residence expires and we received our notice of action and that it is extended for one year. We've been to the biometrics appointment as well. However when he went to the DMV today they would not extend his DL due to there not being a date when his extended res expires. There is a receipt date...but no expiring date. Now personally if there is a receipt date and it is extended for 1 year then the expiration date would be ONE year from that date.

I am so irritated with our office here. I had to do this before when we were first applying for a DL. Someone from the state actually had to approve it.

I was on hold for 51 minutes with the NCDMV before I hung up. I called all the numbers before finally getting someones voice mail. I also sent an email describing my problems. Hopefully I will have some answers for you. This is silly..and I am hoping our office is just mistaken. If not then how do they expect us to keep getting a pay check and paying our taxes this state so obviously needs. Grrr.

In reading some of the back threads about sponcers and co/sponcers I started to get a little nervous about meeting this line.(poverty line)
I can see it(in reading some threads) not being AS big of a deal when you are having your interview during the K-1 process but more when you are doing your AOS interview..(am I correct?)

I live in the US...and I looked up the poverty line but I am looking for your information or advice just to see if I am correct in my assumptions and in what I am reading.

Boy is this experience full of ups and downs..DAILY! :(

(I know I have no time line, I promise I will have one soon.)

Just to add...thanks for this site and the people who add information.
When I get closer to filing I come up with more and more questions.
Most of them are answered by reading. But I also know how frustrating it can be to get the same questions over and over. So from me..and from my husband to be...thank you for being patient. It really does help....

ajames,

Put the 'passport' photos in a small plastic bag.

Printed the 'evidence of having met' photos (4 of 'em) on a single 8x10 sheet for easy binding into the file (closely matches the other 8-1/2 x 11 or A4 documents).

While we are talking about the packet...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe Wedding
It's amazingly stressful isn't it!

We haven't even sent our paper work in yet. We have decided to send it out in may, and we have given our self about a year before we will have a wedding. Now according to some of the timelines for the Texas center it seems like that is a good plan.

We have also decided to have a small wedding...just our immediate family and then have parties in each country for all the friends and relatives. I decided that I could wear my wedding dress 3 times! Gotta get some use out of that sucker!

We, of course, just like everyone else have a hard time being away from eachother. We have our bad days and then really good days! At the end of this whole thing I will know that we worked hard to bring this together. There is nothing that will break that bond. So I will continue with my days...good or bad...and try and be patient. Believe me I am SOOO not patient.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow many peopel waited to file I129F
We are waiting...
We have been together for 1.5 years now and are filing our k-1 in May.
Reason for the wait...this is a serious thing and a huge move for both of us but especially for Chris.
We wanted to be sure, no doubts or worries before we filed.

In my case I think it has been the best thing as our families have grown to love us as a couple and will work to help us through this process. We have a long road ahead by reading what the others have posted...But I can't wait!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother Topic on Poverty Line...

ajames,

For an immigrant visa or adjustment of status the I-864 is rather definitive - income of 125% of the poverty level, assets that can be converted to cash within 1 year can be used to make up a shortfall of income in the ratio of $5 worth of assets to $1 of income.

For a non-immigrant visa the requirement of meeting the public charge provisions of the law is rather more subjective. To quote 9 FAM 40.41 Notes, N4, "These factors, and any other factors thought relevant by a consular officer in a specific case, make up the "totality of the circumstances" that the officer must consider when making a public charge determination." It's not so simple as earning 100% of the poverty level.

Yodrak

Hey Guys, once again I am hung up on the whole poverty line thing.
I understand that for the K-1 that you need to be 100% above the line.
I understand that for AOS you need to be about 125% above the line...
But...Does this include documents from your savings and other Cds and investments...or is this strictly your working income??

I can get all of this adjusted before the AOS interview which I might as it is way in the future as we haven't even done or K-1 yet...I am lucky enough to be able to pick my own salary...however I just want to be sure.

I could also be posting in the wrong forum...sorry if so.
Thanks in advance~ :star:

I believe it includes other sources of income besides your working income, such as savings, CDs, etc. I looked at the I-134 and it includes lines where you can list those types of income. AOS I don't know about - haven't gotten that far yet.

thanks for your reply!!

Two wonderful posts from you! Thanks.

I was having one of those freak out moments last night...nearly lost my mind.
I can't say I am not lucky because I am traveling to see Chris next Wednesday...so at least I will have two weeks of bliss. But then back to the waiting. At least we have a goal...sending all our paper work in April.

Fiona...I will be thinking of you guys. No fun to be away from a loved one during times like the ones you guys go through. I am sure the thought of you will be what pulls him through the recovery process of the surgery. Stay strong...you say such helpful things, hopefully we can say them for you during your tough times!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you meet your fiance?
Thanks for sharing these stories all!

Chris and I met in 2004 in a drumming forum ran by my best friend. We had several mutual friends but never really talked. Both he and I were semi dating people at the time and going through rough spots when a mutual friend introduced us. Neither of us started out interested in doing anything long distance...but chats turned into hours and hours long, lack of sleep, sharing of music...I knew I was becoming attached and was trying to deny it. I thought this was crazy and there was no way this would work. But we still couldn't go an entire day with out talking...never once saying anything about how we felt. Then all of the sudden after months and months of chatting we decided to meet for New Years for 2005 still not admitting this was possibly love.

I can remember it like it was three hours ago. Standing at the bottom of the escalator in the Charlotte airport when this 6'6 red headed man comes down...looking so tired...but with a big smile on his face. Shy so shy.....we walked to my car..feeling all the butterflies. Buckled up and ready to go..he looks over at me and shyly asks if he could be brazen...and then kisses my hand...So small and innocent that was..that is the best memory.

We have been lucky to travel back and forth every 6 weeks to and from England. We are very close to eachothers family and we are so very much in love. AND now I am probably in big trouble to posting this!
As I have said previously we are starting the K-1 process in May...and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with the one person in the entire world that makes me feel like I am irreplacable and important! *giggle* thanks for letting me share! I feel really cheesy and gooey now! :star:

Find document I-864P for the year 2006 and calculate for your household size.

Poverty guidelines do not relate directly to the I-134, but to the I-864 that K-1s will be required to provide when adjusting status.

Just because it is time for me to have my little panic for today! :) So instead of having a new thread I will ask it here. Hope no one minds:

When figuring out the poverty line...

does it mean before or after taxes?
does above the 125% mean above the poverty line for one or two people??
Poverty line for one is $ 9,800. For Two it is 13,200.

Minimum of two people, since you are responsible for yourself (if you are the USC) and your fiance. Go up on this number for each person that the USC supports (children, etc). For the cosponsor, they need to make enough for themselves, the USC, and the foreign fiance (so min 3), add on top of this anyone else they support (spouse, children, etc).

so it would be 125% above the 13,200??
Do you know if this is before or after taxes??

Thanks so mmuch for your reply! :)

This is what you do - if it is the same employer - list the most recent address - in case they try to contact the employer - (seldom if ever done.) If you can't remember the full specific address - its Ok to just put down the street name (if you know) - I used just the name of the city and state and put a statement like "lived in Detroit, MI while attending college - 19XX through 19XX" - It's understandable by the authorities. Good Luck

Thanks!
See the problem with the whole work stuff is that I was the Employer...the addresses were for my direct offices...The Home Office was states away in Chicago.
Maybe I will put the last address then the home office address!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions about the G-325
We will be filing our K-1 in May and I am going through everything and making sure we have all of the information so that in May all we need to do is put it together and mail it.

Today is the day I am going through getting previous addresses with work and for apartments.

Questions:

Until recently I have worked for the same company since I finished University. My office was in three different locations. Again it was the same company...even in the same city. Should I list all addresses or just one??

Next My first apartment right after Uni I can't for the life of me remember the apartment number.
I have been searching for the address...ended up calling to leasing office and they only keep records for 3 years. Now do you think it would be alright to list the address for the Leasing office that is on site at the complex??

Just fussing I think but if someone could give me some information I would be thankful! Very infact! :star:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow do you deal with loneliness?
Loneliness...hard to cope with in general...not a minute goes by when I am not thinking of Chris. Sad to say...a little sappy, but honestly I can be talking about something at work and I will use him in the conversation or imagine him doing this with me or what ever. I always wonder if people are as sappy as me or if I am driving others crazy?!?

I'd say that I am one of the lucky ones out there. I get to see Chris every 6-8 weeks. So complaining is something I shouldn't do very often compared to some of the stories you all have.

I love to cook...so lately I have been planning meals and day dreaming about things I might cook when Chris is here the next time. Or like today I am planning a short hiking trip for while here is here next.
We text throughout the day...then catch up on Skype later in the evening.

What gets me the most..when I feel the most loneliness, is at night right before I drift to sleep. When he isn't their beside me. Reading our books together..maybe touching feet...waiting for that moment when we turn the lights off and he kisses me good night. That is when I am lonely. AND now I am sad! *giggle*

5 more weeks to go!! Then I can cook a meal for him... :)
