United KingdomI am looking for....beer

Boddingtons and good English Bitter.

In the same sentence??????????????????

I am guessing that canned will do and certainly where I am that is widely available from the Liquor Stores.

The Brew Pubs vary, usually the American Pale Ale is closest, the IPA's tend to be far too strong.

No no...just mentioning that I actually found Boddingtons in this town...it wasn't here last week.
I drink guinness and I can find that anywhere.

MyBack:nope..not close to Durham...We have a few specialty beer stores. But I am looking for some names of some good Bitters so I know what to look for!

I love IPAs....but this is for him :)

United KingdomI am looking for....beer
I am looking for a good English Bitter in the states.
Anyone had any luck? I am in a really small town...but I did just find Boddingtons here for the first time.

I'd love to buy it by the case for our wedding...but it looks like that might be difficult. So just simply having a few for Chris when he arrives would be nice!?

Anyone anyone?? :star:

United KingdomPacket 4

Thanks guys. I think it's been close to 3 weeks since we sent off packet 3. Hopefully he'll get packet 4 sometime this week. We were hoping for an interview date around the same date as his medical so he doesn't have to go to London twice. He lives about 2.5 hrs away and doesn't drive, so it's a bit costly to get to London! haha.

I could be mistaken...but I am pretty sure you can do the interview on the same day as the medical.
But honestly he might consider doing the medical the day before...just in case the interview is in the morning.
I also think that it takes a little longer to get your visa as they would need to review it.

Chris and I looked into this option briefly but we decided to just go down to London twice.

He did take the train from Doncaster...and had no problem getting his way around. He also stayed over night the night before the interview. Several other people have stayed at the same place.

Good Luck!

Most kinds.

not american yellow orange plastic stuff.

Not huge on blue cheese all by it self.

But cheese is good mm-kay.

I like grated cheese for the ease! (ha)
But blocked cheese and crackers....yumo.

bubbley cheese on pizza.

Yum.

See some people can't live without chocolate. But i don't think I could live without cheese.

yes. American "yellow" cheese is gross. never liked it. But there are loads of other cheeses!! :)

I can even find a good selection of English and Irish cheese now. But I can't find much imported beer!! :(

United KingdomIs it just me....

I found Wal-Mart a bit too big when I first came over, but I was just annoyed by it rather than lost in it. Now I just shop in Kroger, it is about the same size as a decent Tescos or Sainsbury's.

Btw, does anyone else find it fascinating that cheese seems to be sold grated? You can buy blocks but the grated cheese is everywhere here!

*giggle*

Chris loves to go grocery shopping with me. I think he is just facinated by it. However I love to go grocery shopping in England. But normally it is insanly crowded.

I am sure you will get used to it. You are very brave.....completly new way of life for you. I wish you the best of luck!

*in really small cheerleader yell and a kick **chris gets here in one month from today**yahh*

I typically fly out of Charlotte as well. I have friends there that take my car while I'm away.
But lately we've been really enjoying the direct flights!! I'm only 2 hours from Atlanta and if I can arrange for someone to take and pick me up then it works out loverly.

United KingdomMy fiance is uk citizen, im US citizen. which path should we take
I'd do a lot more research before getting married regardless of the paperwork...
Unfortunatly it will take time regardless. Nothing involving any of the visas will be a cut and dry, easy peasy process. But once you get started it doesn't seem to take all that long...just some patience.

Like someone mentioned having a dressed wedding with out the legal paperwork would probably be okay but I'd be careful about pushing the limits. Pretending anything is a risk I wouldn't take. No one wants to be banned from entering the US....

Good luck.

United KingdomTracy Visits Chas!

17 days till Chris is here!!!!

I'm glad you have a short time to wait, but that doesn't make my time feel any shorter.

Maybe its the jet lag, but I am just sick of the separation. 3 1/2 years and counting is long enough.

It isn't the Jet lag kicking in..I broke down too just before he went to the interview. The 3 years that I have had the emotional ups and downs of him being here (or me there) and then him leaving just paid its toll on my brain. But I'd do it over and over again just to have him here. VERY glad I won't have to.
You're almost there!! Just a bit more. You will make it!!

Glad to have you back state side though!

My dearest is sitting behind me on the couch, pluting away on his guitar while I type. We went to his GP today where he got 2 jabs in preparation for the medical on Friday. Got his two passport photos (for the interview) done at Snappy Snaps nearby. Then came home, walked to the pub, got a bit tipsy :D walked home, watched a Rush DVD.

And I couldn't love him anymore if I tried. :) (L)

Wow. Well I discovered that my carpet is a pinky beige colour, not grey, after I made sure the vacuum cleaner still worked.

Under the dust I found some things I'd lost. Namely a stereo system and a widescreen TV. I'm checking the vacuum bag in case Glen Miller is in there!

I went shopping and got Tracy all the things she'll need including the obligatory supply of diet Pepsi, tissues, (cos you girls aren't happy unless the bin in the bathroom is overflowing with make-up stained tissues), and popcorn for when we are curled up together on the sofa watching movies.

I've got my glucose tablets and Red Bull and I've got an oxygen cylinder with face mask ready to resuscitate me. Only one thing's missing and she'll be here in about 6 and 1/2 hours. :D

Ohh and Mags, in honour of your lovely sig piccy, I had to add mine ;)

*laugh*

I am so freaking jealous it is insane!!!

Glad you found that stereo system and tv...those can come in handy when you are curled up eating popcorn and watching movies!!

Thanks so much all, esp. mags for starting the thread. And my honey for his shameless 'laundry' contributions. I'm really looking forward to seeing my sweetheart, who says he doesn't even mind if I'm dreadfully sick. (L)

I felt horrible yesterday, a bit more tolerable today. Just got back from my parents' house where I dropped off my 'kid' (aka cat) for them to watch over while I'm away. But I'm off to bed now - have to get up at 3:30!

See ya'll on the flip (Blighty) side!!! :D

*giggle*

well I am sure you'll still feel up to laundry!
Fly safely!

United KingdomCan you bring a travel bag into the embassy?

My husband's staying at a hotel tonight and will have to check out before his interview early tomorrow morning. This may seem like a silly question, but will they let him take his overnight bag into the embassy with him? Or is there someplace he could stash it until after the interview's over?

When Chris was preparing for his interview he read on the embassy site that you couldn't. So he had the hotel store it for him. :)
