United KingdomJust popping in!!
Hey guys, Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I am so sorry I haven't been in touch but I appreciate all the congrats and well wishes by PM's and emails.

Chris and I got married on June 23rd. The whole weekend was amazing and our 150+ guests enjoyed themselves as well!
Chris' family came from England for 1 week before the wedding and for a week after. I have a millions of pictures and I will share them once we get them on my computer.

Things are amazing! But we are both extreamly tired! Just starting to slow down now!

Thanks again for all your help...and continued thanks for the help you'll give in the future!!!

P.S. I have about 800 tetley tea bags that Chris' fam left us their visit and a brand new tea kettle!! Chris is happy! :)

United KingdomSafe journey to America for Chas!

What are you all like, carrying on about laundry? ;)

Chas got here on time and safe and sound. Busy day yesterday - got marriage license, dropped off his suit at the cleaners, picked out the vows for the judge, finishing AOS paperwork. Oh and his most important part of the day - went to IHOP for breakfast. My favorite part of the day was taking him to my fave restaurant with my best friend for dinner. All in all, a great day.

Today - passport photos, pickup suit, buy wedding bands. Tomorrow: get married. :D

I'm sure you all are getting on fine without me. Should be back regularly on Monday (when I'm back at work and will no doubt be bored again

*giggle* I am so excited for you guys!!

What a lovely story! Thanks for sharing!

Gosh... we have a few bands that do it for us! Porcupine Tree, Blackfield I guess are the two that really started us off!

As of late on road trips we do Electric Light Orcestra....it is so funny to see a 6ft8 man so giddy to some of their songs!

United KingdomI'm finally here

Finally I am here

I flew out on Thursday, and came through Atlanta as my POE. I have to say this was probably the part I was dreading the most but there was no need, I was very pleasantly surprised by just how nice and welcoming the immigration department were, (and noone asked for my x-rays!), I will write more in a POE review.

Well not much else to say except that I am loving it here, everyoe has been so welcoming and friendly, being reunited with my husband was worth all the days , weeks and months of pain and lonliness, seeing him again was the best thing ever, so to anyone else still on your journey, hang on in there, there are days when you'll feel it will never end, but it will.

Thankyou to everyone here on the board who gave me help and advice along the way, I'm sure in a few days time I'll have yet more questions for you all!!!

Sarah

awww! Congrats and welcome! We had a good experience with Atlanta too! Continued success!

United KingdomHow Did You Meet Your USC/UKC?
These are really sweet stories guys! Thanks for sharing.

Chris and I met in a Drum Forum. He is a drummer and I am a poser! Ha. Nah, we met on the drum forum talking about music, then started talking on msn or something of the sort. Then we started talking more...then it seemed we were talking to only eachother...then to the point where one of us was staying up late and rushing home from work just to talk. At that point I think we were smitten but not admiting it to ourselves. I would say we knew eachother for about a year before Chris came to visit. Chris visited twice between New Years and March. Then I visited in April. By that point I was in love...Whitby did it to me!! That was 4 years ago and we just got married in June. Totally worth the wait and the distance.

I must say we had it lucky because Chris and I saw eachother every 6-8 weeks. Gosh....I am feeling lovey now....

ooh, thanks for the low down on the pub..
ours is on the 4th, so bring on the fish n' chips!!!

On a bummy note, we got a RFE today for a tax transcript for the most recent year.
Yes, we sent it off initially, but will do so again...hmph

still, at least someone is looking, even if they didnt put their glasses on...

good luck with yours and heres to the British pint!!!!!!!
the saviour of all things 'immigrationy'..

well darlin..as you know..I got the same blasted RFE. I sent all my tax stuff for the past three years but i guess it wasn't enough!
But I am okay...just going to get everything together and send it all in! All you can do!
Chris said the chips weren't the same but that the fish was pretty good!! We will go again!

Biometrics was a breeze, but best of luck!

Hey guys! Wanted to thank you all once again for the directions and instructions for our Biometrics which was TODAY!
Easy breezy...in and out in 20 minutes! The building would have been hard to find I think if it wasn't for all your instructions and discriptions! Yay!
On to the next step!!

Chloe: we went to the Fox and Hound for lunch today as we got out of the bio at 11:20...we walked in and it even smelled like a pub to us. (that stale smokey smell) it was great. We both got a pint of tetleys and Chris had Fish and Chips and I had bangers and mash. The guys in the kitchen made them special since they weren't on the menu for sat. brunch. We are happy to report that the fish and chips were pretty darn good, the bangers were lovely....but the gravy (which I had on the side) was not up to par. All in all it was a really good lunch. Specially because you guys had me jonesing for a banger from the food thread on this forum....

Ahh we also went to The World Market and stocked up on Indian curries, some naan bread, and various english biccys.
Has been a lovely day!

Thanks again guys!

We were just up there on Thursday, the 16th.
The exit is for Howell Mill Road--at the top of the ramp, take a right. Like Kathryn said; after you turn on Howell Mill, get in the left lane--Collier Road will be on the left.
Wife's appt. was for noon--we got there around 11:20. They made everybody line up out side until 11:45 or so.

ONLY APPLICANTS WERE ALLOWED IN--NO SPOUSES. NO CELL PHONES; NO PURSES OR BAGS. MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR APPOINTMENT LETTER.

The Mrs. was out by 12:30--only bright note of the day---they stamped her appointment letter, and said it would be sufficient proof for Georgia DMV to get her driver's license

That is great about the stamp for the DMV! Bet that doesn't work for North Carolina residents!! smile.gif That would have been perfect! I'll get him to ask anyway!
Great information! I thank you!

This is what I like about this forum! The reassurence that people can give! star_smile.gif

Ooh, note about Atlanta Biometrics appt,
There is a British pub called the 'Fox & Hounds' on the same road as the office..

Biometrics @ 1255 Collier Road, GA 30318
Fox & Hounds @ 1193 Collier Road NW GA 30318

as you come off I-75 heading towards Collier St it comes up on you very quickly - I think it is the first light after the I-75 interchange (I'm sorry, I don't remember the name of the exit road!) The road is pretty busy but you do have a left hand turn lane to turn onto Collier St so make sure you get into the turn lane as it doesn't give you much warning. You turn to the left and it is a hilly, single-lane busy road . You travel through a commercial area, a residential area with apartments and then as you start to swoop down the hill in an increasingly industrial area the Biometrics Centre is part way down the hill on your right hand side. (The lane before is for a trucking company). If you go too far you can turn around in an industrial/warehouse parking area at the bottom of the hill and come back.

Try to park as close as you can to the very back since the entrance is at the back of the building. It looks kind of like a big warehouse structure with loading platforms half way down. It is much nicer inside than it appears from the outside.

Thank you Kathryn! You are fantastic!
I really appreciate it! :)

whats Progressive music?
Is it a band?, sorry Im so out of touch, its not funny.
Me and the hubby are metalheads, with a bit of Radiohead / Siouxsie and the Banshees thrown in.
The only gig Ive been to in Atlanta was Nine Inch Nails last year, which was awesome and we went to see
The Cult in London, the last time John was in England.
I miss the london venues, the Camden underworld and the Garage, Ive yet to see small US venues, so thats something
we plan on doing the next time something of interest hits Atlanta.
HAVE FUN though!!!!

Ahh I got to see NIN in Atlanta years ago. Back when I was in high school!!
My husband is a metal head with a bit of prog rock. I like a lot of everything.

Welll this show is at the Roxy...and we are also seeing them in Asheville. We try to see them as much as possible.
Listen to a couple of songs on myspace or the likes...I really like them. Porcupine Tree is the name of the band.
I'd be happy to send you some songs if you can't find them!

We just bought tickets 10 minutes ago...as I said should be a good show, just sucks it is on a wednesday!

Hello!!

Im not sure what office you need to go to, as we havent received our biometric yet, but I know the Atlanta office where
Infopass appts are made etc is near Martin Luther King Dr. Probably no help at all, sorry!!!

The pub at Little Five Points is called the Brewhouse Cafe

http://www.brewhousecafe.com/

Not sure if this link will work, but Ive signed up to be notified by email when Gunners are on the TV.
Check out the menu!!!, If you go, please let us know what the bangers and mash or fish and chips are like!

Good luck at your Biometrics!!
x

Hiya! Thanks that is it. Ate there before and the fish and chips were OKAY...nothing is like Englands. But I have only been there once. Just thought it might be fun to go after our interview! Will ask the husband. Thanks, I will report back!

KD: Good advice on the water. I don't have the address here at work with me but I am just cautious with what MAPQUEST brought up. Just fussing is all!

ANYONE LIKE Progressive Music? Going to see an English band at the Roxy in October!!??WILL BE FUN. (I like yelling today)

someone might move this.
First question: We have a Biometrics in Atlanta on the 25th...I am wondering where the office is? I map quested it and I am not convinced it is correct only because they modified address in the end. Anyone been there?
Atlanta is one hour closer then Charlotte is. But I know where the office is in Charlotte! BUT we are thankful the meeting is before we leave for our honeymoonish.

Second: Where was that English Pub someone was mentioning to me in one of these threads? Was it Little 5 Points?? Thinking of going there as a treat on saturday after the biometrics. Also are there any British grocers fairly easy to find?

Okay so I asked all my questions in the Second one! But any help would be great!
Hope everyone else is doing peachy! :star:

Luckily we have a decent Indian in town, plus there's Trader Joe's Frozen Garlic and Corriander Naan, which are about the best store bought Naan I've ever had (made in India no less).

I'll have to try Trader Joes....I am not often close to a Traders but I love them! They have a kind of cracker there that I love!

OP, you have to make yourself and your partner happy first. But at the same time (just offering another perspective here), is there any way you'd be willing to compromise for the sake of your family? Since you'd be moving here, they're going to miss you quite a lot....and it might mean a helluva lot to them to have the wedding to look back on.

I was just about to write something along the same lines. I was the one who did not want a "wedding", and my husband did. He pointed out that the ceremony was not only for us, it was for our loved ones too, and I should be careful to consider their feelings. I'm glad he changed my mind. And so are our families.

totally agree with you and Lisa...

The ceremony is more for your family. You guys have already commited to eachother in your own ways, Now a cermoney commits to your family that you will love and take care of eachother. My family and Chris' were extreamly happy that we had a wedding. I am too now, it was lovely.

Hmm... nothing good happened in the summer.

Best things around the summer months, was Josh coming over to the UK for 3 weeks in May and my 2 weeks in the US earlier this month. Summer was just some "time to wish away" to get to the next visit.

I'll be so glad when this whole process is over and I can start enjoying each day again, instead of wishing them all away.

It is a long wait. But it is worth it. Good luck on the rest of your visa path.

well good to see some people have had a good summer!!

Not a sports fan period so the whole rugby/football issue isn't bothersome to me.

When Chris and I were in Colorado a few weeks ago the stars were effin' amazing. He was shocked.

If we are mentioning what sucked about the summer...I'd say Chris not being able to make money.

So my thread today will be about *drum roll* Your favorite thing that has happened this summer?
Fall is approching...winter will follow! But what happened to you this summer that was just fantastic!?

For me...without a doubt...Our Wedding. Was fantastic.

Next...Chris and I took a camping trip together. First time for him...and we just had a great time. Just the two of us! So now I think it has started a thing with us. We will try and go as much as possible. So we found yet another thing we like to do together.

and loads of Galaxy, Cadburys etc. Last time I went they had 10c bags of mini Cadburys buttons on the counter..yum
In 2 weeks my pop is visiting and Ive requested Weetabix ($5.00 for 12 in local shop!!) and I need to find out if he can bring Smoked Mackerel on the plane...
does anybody know whether that will be allowed through?
It will be a bit warm, but oh how I miss it!!!!

The only smoked fish Ive found here is Smoked Catfish....doesnt really appeal..

Not a Mackerel fan myself, but I do like smoked fish! You should be able to find smoked fish in Atlanta somewhere.
I really like smoked trout or smoked salmon.
But other fishes are good too. Smoked Rock fish.. yummy
Great with crackers and a little cream cheese!

Try a good fish market. Perhaps a farmers market......
