PhilippinesIs my hard copy at the embassy now?

To my understanding NVC dose not make appt. for K1 visa the embassy handles that. NVC just input your information in the system and forward it to the appropriate embassy. That's why you didn't hear from NVC

He's not trying to schedule a K-1 interview through the NVC. He just wants to know when his case will arrive at the U.S. Embassy Manila.

PhilippinesIs my hard copy at the embassy now?
I don't know if the NVC letter is the one everybody is talking about, but you really don't need it for anything.

Maybe you're thinking of the letter the Embassy is supposed to send to your beneficiary. It's the letter that notifies your beneficiary that she is eligible to schedule an interview, and it includes instructions to help prepare for the interview. You can read the "eligibility" letter on the Embassy's web site here:

http://photos.state....f2_rtf2_001.pdf

Don't wait around for the Embassy letter. You don't need it for anything. It could take a month or two to arrive. Sometimes it never arrives. It's a lot faster to simply get your MNL case number from the NVC and go ahead and schedule an interview appointment. Don't worry, your papers will arrive at the Embassy in plenty of time for the interview.

PhilippinesHow and where to get a Philippines passport renewed here in the USA??

My wife entered the US via K-1 visa April 24, married June 22.  Problem, her Filipino passport, will expire early next year, how do we renew it, and where, and links, or suggestions would be appreciated!

To renew a passport, you must make a personal appearance at the Philippines Consulate (or at one of their outreach events) which has jurisdiction over the place where you got married. You will have to file a "Report of Marriage" either before you renew the passport or at the same time you renew the passport. If you file a "Report of Marriage" before you renew the passport, it can be done via mail.

Google the Philippines Embassy or one of its Consulates. Everything is spelled out there.

Edited to add: I think your wife posted the same topic in another thread.

She can get her passport renewed at the Philippines Consulate or at a Consulate outreach event. It requires a personal appearance. However, it must be done at a Consulate or outreach which has jurisdiction over the place where you got married. To renew her passport, she will also have to file a "Report of Marriage" with the same Consulate or outreach event. Both of these things can be done at the same time.

Check out the Consulate's website for details about renewing passports, filing the report of marriage, and for any outreach events which may be coming to a town near you.

PhilippinesCheck NVC for Status Question

Now that you have your MNL # get the interview setup so that you have the date you want locked in.

^^^. This!

The sooner one gets their MNL case number, pays the visa application fee at BPI, and schedules their interview, the more likely one is to get their target interview date. Then it's time to relax.

You already have your MNL case number, and soon your case should be on its way to Manila, so why not just pay the visa application fee at BPI, schedule an interview appointment, and complete the medical?

Thanks Tahoma and jayann. Yes view study like Kaplan. I couldn't Do self study anymore as I'm a 2008 graduate and never practiced nursing hahaha. So basically my knowledge drifted already. I hope review is cheaper in the US aw what u think?

If I remember correctly, a few years ago the Kaplan review course here in the U.S. was about $500. I don't know how much it costs in 'Pinas, but you can check their website.

I guess it would be better to take it in the Philippines so that they don't have to worry about taking it here. I wish my fiance had passed a while ago so that he was able to take the NCLEX in the Philippines. I was a little sadden to find out he didn't pass since my aunt was able to get him a job at the nursing home where she works but just gotta be positive and there is some sort of solution to every problem right. :)

Passing the NCLEX in the Philippines won't get him a work permit (EAD) any faster here in the U.S.

He could pass the NCLEX in the U.S. and have his RN license by the time he gets his work permit.

For me you might as well just take it in the US to avoid any problems at least you'll know for sure that the requirements are ok already.

The requirements to sit for the NCLEX are the same in the Philippines as they are in the U.S.

Question. Do you guys recommend Reviewing for NCLEX while in the philippines? Or better to review in US?

When you say "review," do you mean a review class, like Kaplan? If so, I don't know if it's better in the U.S. or in 'Pinas. Chinook did not take a review class. She self-studied. However, review classes are widely available in the U.S.

On the other hand, if you simply mean studying for the NCLEX, you should be studying for it every day.

TahomaMalePhilippines2013-08-15 09:07:00

What documents did they request from your wife when she took the NCLEX? We are looking at taking the NCLEX in New York as it may be easier since he just needs to get it verified by CGFNS. Did she have to go back to school or just take the review classes? It would really be nice if he does become a RN here as when we decide to have kids we wont have to worry about who will be watching our kids.:) I'm sure its easier to find a job here than in the Philippines.

Chinook applied for the NCLEX through the state of Vermont. At the time she applied, Vermont did not require CGFNS because Vermont did their own in-house transcript evaluation. Also, at that time, Vermont did not have an equivalency policy like the kind you find in California and some other states, so no additional classes were necessary. Vermont has since changed their requirements. They now require CGFNS. I don't know whether they currently are strict with equilavency.

Once Chinook got her Vermont license, she had it endorsed by the start of Washington who, at that time, accepted Vermont's transcript evaluation, so no CGFNS was necessary. Also, at that time, Washington did not have an equivalently policy like they do currently.

I don't know about New York's requirements, but you can find out about them on their website, or simply call their board of nursing. However, please keep in mind that getting a license in New York may only be half of the battle. If you plan to have the license endorsed to another state, you will be required to follow that state's endorsement requirements, which may be stricter than New York's licensing requirements. Therefore, you should definitely check out the endorsement requirements of the state where you intend to get a job. You may find that it would be better to simply apply for the NCLEX through the state where you intend to practice nursing.

Studying for the NCLEX is a full-time job. I hope that when he comes to the U.S., he can concentrate on that and not get distracted by working some job.

The payoff will be a lifetime career with excellent wages and benefits.

I'm just in a tough situation because my fiance is being compared to my brother in-law who also came here thru fiance visa. The only thing is that my brother in-law is a licensed engineer in the Philippines so my parents expect that my fiance should be an RN in the Philippines also so he won't have a hard time looking for a job. The thing is even if my fiance passed the NLE in the Philippines he still wont be able to work as a nurse here in the US as he is not licensed here unlike engineering or accounting you can still find jobs in an office. I know passing the NLE is important but I feel like if he did pass the NLE he wont be able to use it here and still needs to take the NCLEX. Plus he wont be working in the Philippines anyways so him being an RN there is nothing.

You should listen carefully to apple21.

Your parents are misguided. In my opinion, your fiancé would be wasting his time and money studying for the NLE and taking the exam. As I said, the NLE is nothing like the NCLEX. Why waste valuable time studying for the NLE when he should be concentrating on studying for the NCLEX?

Even if he passed the NLE, it's almost impossible to get a job as an RN in the Philippines. It's even very difficult to get on as a volunteer unless he has a backer. Is your fiancé willing to spend the next three to five years in the Philippines working as an RN (if he can even get a job) to gain the experience he will need in order to get a job in a U.S. hospital?

Instead, he could pass the NCLEX and start out as an RN in a long-term care facility in the U.S. They hire newbies. This path could give him the work experience he needs to make the jump into a hospital, if that's his career goal. As a bonus, you two would be together a lot sooner if he followed this path.

TahomaMalePhilippines2013-08-12 11:44:00

After Chinook passed the NCLEX and endorsed her license to Washington State, it took her three or four months to get her first job as an RN.

Chinook said that the NLE didn't help her pass the NCLEX because the NLE is all about memorization and the NCLEX is not. The thing that helped Chinook pass the NCLEX was studying full-time for it and not having to work while she studied.

PhilippinesGot married in the PI, got divorced in US, wanting to re-marry, now a USC
Since you were a U.S. citizen when you divorced, and you want to get married in the Philippines, you should have your divorce judicially recognized. A judicial recognition of a foreign divorce is faster and it's less expensive than an annulment. A judicial recognition of a foreign divorce typically takes six months to one year and costs P50,000 to P100,000.

If neither of your future husband's parents are Filipino, then he will have to live in the Philippines for five continuous years in order to become a Philippines citizen.

PhilippinesAnybody have any luck calling the US Embassy US numbers lately?
Lunch time at the Embassy should be over by now. Be persistent and keep trying. Sometimes the IV unit is very helpful. If you can't get ahold of them today, try again first thing Monday morning (Manila time). It was my experience, and others, that their phones weren't so busy when they opened in the morning.

Also, it was my experience, and I've also read it here on VJ more than once, that the IV unit people unfortunatly are more helpful to Americans than they are to Filipinos.

By the way, it's not uncommon for the Embassy to verify documents. It's one reason why some visas take longer than others.

TahomaMalePhilippines2013-08-16 00:32:00
PhilippinesAnybody have any luck calling the US Embassy US numbers lately?

Oh, so if it's issued today, the visa will magically appear in my fiancee's hand, and it will be only 8 days!11!1

Except, it's the 16th in Manila, so that's 9 days...but there is that issue of the visa molecular transporter not being invented yet, so it needs to be couriered over to her town.

So if it isn't issued today, then "maybe" it's issued monday...and if we assume a quick 2 days delivery, then wow, it will be 14 days on wednesday.

But wait!! It's not your lucky day, Tahoma. Wednesday the 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day!!!!    Yea!   Another non-working holiday!!11!!!. So then, it may get there on thursday, which is... let me count...,15 days...7 days are in a week...so yeah, beyond 2 weeks.

It's been eight days. Today is the ninth day, and it isn't over yet. But, who's counting?

I'm interested to know how you are so certain that 2GO isn't going to text her today (Friday in Manila) or Monday.

By the way, two days isn't "a quick delivery." Many people pick up their visa packet or have it delivered on the day they get the text. Many get it the next day. My wife picked up her visa packet within an hour of the text.

Instead of a useless call to a CSR at the call center (the 214 number), why don't you call directly to the IV unit and ask them the status of the visa. The IV unit's phone number (from the U.S.) is 632-301-2000 extension 5184 or 5185.

PhilippinesTax Transcripts

...NO WHERE in the I-134 instructions does it state that one MUST make more then the poverty limit of the current tax year or year before at all!  If you can show me where it specifically states that then you would be right but I assure you it doesn't say that ANYWHERE which is why it's perfectly fine to average the last 3 yrs and put that as the "annual income value"!  PERIOD !...

If you think the Embassy is bound by what it says (or doesn't say) on an I-134, you're in for a rude awakening.

By the way, if you know five couples who have been through the K-1 process, why are you always asking the most basic questions about the process here on VJ?

It states you MAY (may is not required, but you can include if you want to).

That's one reason why I posted the quote.

The other reason I posted it is to provide some context; the USCIS realizes and accepts the fact that some sponsors could benefit by submitting more than their current tax return. They may not "want to," but they may need to.

PhilippinesTax Transcripts
I've never heard of Manila asking for more than one copy of a tax return/transcript at the time of the interview. However, it's always a good idea to have a back up copy of everything.

Four days after Chinook's K-1 interview at the U.S. Embassy Manila, a Filipino caseworker at the Embassy's IV unit called Chinook and asked her to bring in copies of my I-134, 1040, W-2, and pay stubs. The caseworker assured Chinook that my documents she submitted at her interview had not been lost, but they simply had been "misplaced."

Jeff1970...

Yes, you are correct about the U.S. Embassy Manila's requirements as stated in their K-1 "instructions" letter. They want you to submit your 2012 1040 and W-2. You should also submit some current paycheck stubs as proof of your current sustained income. Also, an employer's letter is sometimes asked for.

The Embassy should readily accept your 2012 tax transcript in place of your 1040 and W-2. However, there have been isolated cases over the years where the Embassy has required a 1040 and a W-2 to be submitted even though a tax transcript was submitted. If you want to play it safe, have your 1040 and W-2 available as a back up.

PhilippinesFiling SLEC Forms Online Questions

I'm filling out the online preregistration forms for the SLEC visit of my fiancée, her daughter and son. The question I have is on the form (http://www.slec.ph/us/registration/) do I fill out a form for each member, mom, daughter and son?

Under Petitioner's Information there is a question about relationship. Relationship to who. I'm assuming that I am the fiancé to the applicant (mother) but it states to applicant and if I am filing a form out for each member then that relationship will change and be different from mother to daughter to son. Right?

Then under the heading "Nearest Relative in the U.S." is that nearest relative to the applicant or petitioner?

Last question; can this document after it has been created can it be edited for mistakes after it has been submitted? Or, do I create a new document to correct the errors?

Thanks

Fill out a form for each family member (instruction #2).

You are the mother's "fiancé."

You are the children's "fiance's parent."

For "Nearest Relative in the U.S.," put your name.

Preview the form and check for mistakes. If you submit the form with mistakes, your fiancée can correct them when she gets to St. Lukes.
