Australia and New ZealandNew Zealand Police Check Lost?

My fiancé is a Kiwi currently living in Australia so we also had to get an New Zealand police check. We sent his DS-230 the day after receiving it and went ahead and requested the form we needed to get his New Zealand police check. The form is basically a form that authorizes the release of your police information from New Zealand to the consulate. When you get your packet three from the consulate there might be directions about how to get police checks from other countries (Sydney included a link that takes you to the State Department website). Under NZ, it says:

For Immigrant Visa Applicants: Police clearance requests are processed by the Immigrant Visa Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Auckland. The Consulate General supplies New Zealand resident applicants with authorization forms. Overseas applicants should contact the U.S. consular office processing their cases to obtain a form authorizing release of police information. The authorization form should be completed, signed and returned to the processing consular post, together with a copy of the descriptive / photo page of their passport, who will then forward the request to the U.S. Consulate in Auckland for forwarding to the New Zealand police. The completed clearance will be returned to the requesting consular post, or direct to NVC, not to the applicant. The form must show the applicant's case number e.g ACK 2011------

So I think it will depend on if you are currently living in New Zealand when you request the police check or if you are residing in another country. You could possibly (if filing in New Zealand) email the consulate there and ask if you need to do an authorization or if you can use the one from the Ministry of Justice.

Ok, thanks. That makes sense. What I have is a letter saying I have a clear record, so I need to complete a form authorising the Consulate to access the info from the police directly. If it needs the case number then I need to wait anyway until I get one. Thanks for your help... :)

Australia and New ZealandNew Zealand Police Check Lost?
I went ahead and got the Police Certificate directly, not realising that the Police Release information form was to be sent in packet 3. I "triple" checked with the Ministry of Justice and they told me that they have issued me with the same certificate/letter that they issue for all U.S. visa requirements (It has original letterhead .. 'Ministry of Justice' in dark blue at the top... if that helps). I have just now seen this post and from what has been said it appears that I need to use the Packet 3 form when I get it anyway. Can someone just reconfirm? (sorry but Ive become extremely OCD lately...)

Thanks for any clarification.

Australia and New ZealandDS156K - Documents to be originals?

You just need to send in one original and one photocopy of the birth certificate etc with Packet 3, you don't need to take an extra copy with you to the interview.

For the I-134, you just send that in with Packet 3 along with proof of income, you don't need to supply an updated one at the interview. As long as everything is in order, your interview should be about 2-4 weeks after you send back Packet 3.

Great, thanks for your help..

Australia and New ZealandDS156K - Documents to be originals?

Can I just check another thing on this with you?... the NZ review says to send in for Packet 3 all the forms including DS-156K. It says on the form to attach the Birth Certificate etc. but then on the other p[art of the Embassy Review it says
to take to the Interview the Birth Certificate, marriage Cert if applicable. So do you need two copies of these or do you just send them with the DS-156K?

I'm getting really confused here... - thanks for your help.

Also, did you need to supply an updated I-134 for the interview or did you take a copy of the original one?

Sorry for all the questions.. (the OCD in me is kicking in) thanks so much.

Australia and New ZealandDS156K - Documents to be originals?

The previous poster was correct, you need to send in the originals plus a photocopy of each, and the originals will be given back to you at the interview. They don't need to be notarized copies.

Yep, you send it all with your packet three. with the instructions you got in your email it has a list of all of the documents that you need to send with it. they will get returned to you at your interview i think

Ok... I'm getting my packet 3 stuff together early to save time... so I don't have their letter yet, but noticed the embassy notes mentioned about the same originals for AOS, but it doesn't actually say to send originals or mention they return them so if they do, thats good. It means i dont need to get another set. Thanks.

Australia and New ZealandDS156K - Documents to be originals?
Just wanting to clarify where it says on the DS156K the following documents must be attached in order to apply for a Fiance visa (after #5) - I'm assuming these need to be originals?

... and what do they mean in the note underneath by "All the above documents will also be required when you apply for AOS to lawful permanent resident. The USCIS will accept these documents for that purpose."

Does this mean the documents are returned to the beneficiary and can therefore be used for the AOS application?

Thanks for any clarification

Australia and New ZealandApplication was Denied
Anyway OP, back to your question...

It is quicker and cheaper to reapply.
Boarding passes are better than copies of tickets because they show you actually boarded the flight and show details of name/date. Tickets dont prove you boarded the flight.
Copies of passport stamps showing official arrival into the U.S. (or whatever the destination was travelled that put the two of you together).
Any other evidence you have of being together in the same place at the same time that shows date and location.
e.g. Tickets to events and certain parks that show your name... (I have a copy of tickets which show my name, a photo of us together at the entrance at that location and as the tickets were booked through AAA, my credit card bill with the amount for the tickets which notes what the charge was for.
ATM receipts which show the location of the transaction and date.
Photos are considered secondary evidence but they can help build a picture to support the other information.
They wont look at CDs.

Best of luck.

Australia and New ZealandApplication was Denied

I'm not trying to be rude but it is extremely obvious that the $600 fee is the APPEAL fee that he has yet to pay and that he's hoping to avoid paying. He is looking for ways to get around having the pay that fee.

.

lol... actually its not extremely obvious that the $600 is an appeal fee. we were denied and not given that option... I've never seen that amount mentioned before... and if it is not the USC posting here, the cost of the petition is NZD600.
... and I dont think they are just trying to get their money back, but wondering what to do next.

Australia and New ZealandApplication was Denied

Hi, Im applying for a K1 Fiance Visa and my fiance just got a letter saying our application was denied due to not enough evidence we had met.

They did not accept my travel documents nor photos of us together that we had provided, which are unfortunately digital and didn't have a date stamp (not sure if digital cameras can even do that).

Now I understand we would would be asked for provide further information if they didn't feel we had enough, but to deny the application was a shock. So Im looking for some advise, and if there is anything we can do to appeal the 600+ dollar fee we will be charged on top of all the expenses we have all ready payed for.

I can send them copies of my airline tickets (which I still have most of), and photo copies of the entry stamped pages from my passport. The Photos are digital so all I can think of is to check if they have a date modified and burn them onto a CD for them to look at. I am also wondering if we can get signed statements from friends we both know to say they saw us together, I am unsure if they are taken or not.

Advise on how to deal with this generally, and about the above would be appreciated.

You are the Kiwi ... right?
If you paid USD600 I guess this was through a broker/lawyer as the actual fee is USD340 unless you mean NZD600 which is the approx equivalent of USD340. Its difficult to say what happened here without additional info.
If you just sent copies of tickets or airline flight summaries with a few photos this may not have been enough. Did you send an explanation of how you met or any other evidence? Sometimes they will just send an RFE (request for further evidence) but they can just outright deny the petition (which is a real shock).

I can tell you (from experience) if you try to appeal it just becomes a longer and more stressful process and you wont get your money back.

Best thing to do is post exactly what you included and posters can help you more. Feel free to PM me if that helps.
Also, if you can update your timeline it helps everyone on here to paint a full picture... best wishes.

Australia and New ZealandMeeting my fiance in auckland for the interview

So Im hopefully going to be with my fiance for the interview in auckland, anyone recommend any hotels nearby? Hes from the south island so he won;t know either. Thanks :) Also, side question, for any of u that had your fiance(e) with you at the interview do u feel it made the process easier and/or faster?

Hi Jamie .. so exciting being able to think about the next steps ....
I haven't stayed there, but there is a Mercure Hotel in Customs St in Auckland - if you can get a good rate, it is just over the road and about 25 metres along from the US Consulate. So if you're just here for a short time, you'd save on transport once you're in the city. You're also close to the Viaduct which is a nice place to spend time, cafes, overlooks the harbour etc. Here's the AA link which may help. http://www.aatravel....listingId=69742

Australia and New ZealandThe big move - is it really going to be worth it????

At first I was like a fish out of water cause I went from the Gold Coast to the Mojave Desert but it had a unique and fantastic beauty of it's own for me to explore so I didn't dwell on the lack of water in my life. I missed the food and found the people much more laid back in OZ but I quickly acclimated to my new environment. I found websites where I can get my favourite junk foods. I buy from there in between care packages from my mum back home. :P I live in a very isolated area now and I'm surrounded by 100 foot trees, 5,000 foot mountains with rivers, lakes and wildlife all around me. I missed the beaches for a while as I'm from the Gold Coast originally but now the lovely white sand has been replaced by lovely white snow 6 months of the year. I'm adaptable and just go with the flow. Apart from the obvious of having my husband to share these things with me it's definitely worth it and 12+ years later it's still exciting to have a whole new world and culture to explore. The trade worth is what each individual makes of it. For me...oh yeah it's worth it. :)

Sounds cool ..

Australia and New ZealandThe big move - is it really going to be worth it????

I am from New Zealand my wife is from America.

We lived in New Zealand together for 2 years before getting married and moving to America and living there for 3 years.
We left America because I was homesick for New Zealand plus the crime was bad (at least I thought so) and the recession was hitting (2008).
We have been in New Zealand now for 3 years and are moving back to America because New Zealand is just so BORING! and so expensive; I am a fully qualified tradesman here in NZ earning LESS than what I was earning as a 2nd year apprentice in America.

My wife was almost finished her electrical apprentiship in America, she had 2 years left and was told by NZ electrical board she could transfer her apprentiship over and complete it in NZ; well that never happened because they lied to us; made us jump through hoops for almost a year before we gave up on her finishing her qualification.
My wife now works in a grocery store for 13 hours a week because she cannot get another job because she is not a KIWI!

The houses are so expensive in New Zealand; about $250k for a crappy cold damp house that probably leaks where as if we saved up $50k in America we could buy a house better than the one in NZ without needing to get a loan from the bank.

I guess it depends where you are or your circumstances but I'd have to agree with you on the property side of things. I'm in Auckland and house prices have gone through the roof. You would be really struggling to find something in central Auckland for $500k now, and that's minimum. There is also a lot of foreign investment in the major city centres now too - and its becoming impossible to compete. It has changed the way suburbia looks with lots of cross-leasing of land. Not as pretty as it used to be. Not as friendly either. I just don't think the same opportunities and lifestyle exist that used to be there even 5 to 10 years ago relative to average income.

Ring the doctor and ask him. Some of the doctors do it without the date, they just need your NVC number. When I booked mine I didn't have an interview date just the NVC number. by the time my appointment came around though I had a date but the Doctor didn't ask me when it was.

Congratulations on your NOA2 !

Yes I would call the doctor - sounds from mixxerose like this is a strong possibility ... I had wondered about this before.

Australia and New ZealandAny problems

So the I-129f is on its way.... So the waiting begins... For me I am quite blessed as my fiancée is taking 3 months off work to come help sell my house and get our life packed up to get ready to move to the USA at the end of this month.
Question with us beginning this K1 visa process, is there anything we should know with him being here with me in NZ that we could be missing.
I have try to read all the information but can't find any reason why he can't be.. He is bringing all the information that is required for the get package for the interview for me about earning history, and his important mail will be forwarded to us.
Thanks,

Can't see any issues... you could check through what is required for your interview and put together the papers in readiness.

Otherwise .. great that you are having that time together and great evidence of ongoing relationship.

Best to you both (F)

Australia and New ZealandDrivers Licence

Not necessarily "solved".

An international licence is your NZ licence, not the "international drivers permit" (IDP) that I think you're referring to. You don't need anything outside of your regular NZ licence. The IDP is beneficial if you're going to a country that doesn't speak the same language, it's basically a "translation licence" type deal.

The florida site says this: http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/idp.html about the IDP. It's referring to USC's going overseas as it mentions "must be accompanied by a valid United States driver license at all times." which of course doesn't apply to you.

According to links I was reading online, you are able to drive on your NZ licence for up to 6 months. Be careful to state you are a VISITOR to Florida until you are actually a resident. California for example give you 10 days from becoming a "resident" to get a CA licence but the police disagree with what "resident" means and have been known to fine people who are awating AOS driving on a foreign licence after they admit they live in CA (thus a "resident" of CA).

The main issue I had was that my husband car insurance company would not insure me on a foreign licence. Made it basically impossible to drive because I was too scared to drive uninsured!

Thanks for clarifying. I had wondered about considering myself as a visitor until everything is formalised, so sounds like that is the best idea. I'm only really worried about the first few months, so it sounds as though I will be fine with that.

Yes, insurance - I would take a comprehensive travel policy when I leave NZ - is there any reason why I wouldn't be covered for a short time after arrival in the US on the K1. I am definitely too scared to drive uninsured also.

I'm not considering the licence or insurance as a long term measure - just thinking about how to match up the pieces.
AndieFemaleNew Zealand2012-07-30 01:54:00
Australia and New ZealandDrivers Licence

I'm not sure why they say that - it depends on the state. I never had an issue driving with my Australian licence until I was eligible for a US licence with my EAD. I even checked with the DPS here (Oklahoma) and they said that I was allowed to drive with my foreign licence form as long as it took until I was eligible for a local one. I believe some states say that you can only drive with your foreign licence for a certain period, and if you don't have your EAD or GC by then you have to stop driving. If you're moving to Florida, check with the DPS regulations there, or see if you can find a similar question from someone in Florida here on VJ.

Thanks for that.. I just checked online and it says they do issue an International Licence here, though when I called recently I was told they dont ...LOL

Anyway, it seems it is valid for 12mths so long as you carry your standard licence as well. I also checked on the Florida requirements and they accept an International Licence.

Another (small) problem solved
AndieFemaleNew Zealand2012-07-29 00:00:00
Australia and New ZealandDrivers Licence

It depends on the state you are moving to.
You can probably use your NZ licence (no need for an international licence)for a certain period (depends on the state) and then you can get a US licence either with your EAD or your GC (again, depends on the state). Which state are you moving to?

We used to have an International Driver's Licence (a piece of paper) and I used that but they changed the system some years ago to a card for our standard licence and no International Driver's Licence since then. I was told that was ok when I was visiting and that's all I've taken in the past, but I wondered why people sometimes say on here that a disadvantage of the K1 (as opposed to CR1) is that you wont be able to drive straight away.

Just thinking ahead (way ahead) - I've always been able to drive in the US on VWF and B1/2 visas in the past so what happens when you arrive on a K1 - I've seen posts which say you have to wait for AOS, but I haven't seen anything relating to NZ. Can anyone who has done this let me know how it works. Thanks,

Australia and New ZealandAuckland Interview review

Had my interview this morning 8am; arrived 7:30 & got in elevator 7:45 which is when you are allowed to go to the floor the US consulate is on.
Had to line up and was at the back of the line and security started letting people through at 8am sharp; since I was at the back of the line I didnt get through security till about 8:15 but was told to go straight to window 5 which is where the person my wife and I had been dealing with via email and phone was waiting for me; she couldnt have been anymore nicer.

Breezed through the first part with her except that I forgot to bring a foolscrap registered envelope for them to ship me my passport if I was approved, I also needed to send my orginal birth cert which I couldnt find at home but was found about 30 mins AFTER I got on the plane to my interview, I also needed to get my joint sponsors latest paystub which they would accept via email (which I have now since done and that has been accepted).

I then was sent to wait for my interview and was waiting for about 30-40 mins while other people were served ahead of me; I think because they were all getting tourist or study visas and they are not as time consuming as the IR-1.
Finally got my interview; swore that the application was truthful; given the domestic violence paperwork which they apparently give everyone now and told once my birth certificate gets to them with the envelope they will send my passport back with visa in it.

From the moment I walked up to the interview window I could see my application on top of his desk with a big APPROVED May 2013 stamped on it :-)

Thank you for all your help.

APPROVED!

Australia and New ZealandSending excess baggage to the US from NZ

I went to the Postshop, and got 5 large boxes, and mailed it all to myself. 3 weeks later, in spite of them telling me it would take a couple of months, everything turned up fine. I only sent clothes and personal belongings, wasn't worth it to me to send anything else. Electronics won't work, and they have furniture here ;)

I have too much for Postshop boxes I think. I have some other special furniture items etc, but guess I will pass them on to my family. Thanks

Australia and New ZealandSending excess baggage to the US from NZ

Any idea who you are flying with?

Air NZ prepaid excess baggage seems to be the way to go. Can't beat $95 for an extra 23kg, and I think the second extra is $145 (used to be much much more than this, $145 for the first and $275 for the second!).

Alternatively some airlines offer better baggage deals - i.e. Hawaiian does 2 x 30kg.

This sounds pretty good.. yes I thought it was more. And most likely Air NZ. I have furniture and things also...some special items but sounds like its not worth it to do that.. I was wondering about shipping a share of a container or something but its probably not worth the cost.. Thanks for your help.

Australia and New ZealandSending excess baggage to the US from NZ
I've been looking at some alternatives for sending excess baggage to the US from NZ. I'd be grateful to hear of what worked best for anyone who has done this. I'm looking at Auckland to Florida - initially for clothing etc unaccompanied, and smaller items, but also wondering about shipping bigger things later on, and whether its worth doing. Anyone with experience of this ..? I'd appreciate any advice (and assuming of course that one day I will eventually get my visa)

Thanks,

Australia and New ZealandNZ to USA - sending large items by container

You can contact different removals companies to geta quote for moving things. We are going from Perth to Mississippi and for a 20 ft container will be like 8000. From what the reps have told me its very pricey to do groupage which is to share part of a container with other people.

Great.. thanks for the tip. I havent checked it out yet, thought I might as well sound out some ideas here. I'm still deciding what's worth taking and what isn't.

Australia and New ZealandNZ to USA - sending large items by container
I've already asked about the best way to send excess baggage and got some good responses. I'm now wondering about sending larger items, furniture etc to the US. Has anyone any advice on shipping from NZ to the US (specifically Florida, but any advice would be appreciated). I'm considering sending a 1/4 or 1/2 container load - I know that things are replaceable but I'm looking at sending some special pieces that are irreplaceable. Anyone who has had experience of this and advice on who to approach for reasonable prices .. It would be great to hear from you. Thanks, A

Australia and New ZealandNEW ZEALANDers heading to the US and their USC spouses - POST HERE!

I've been lurking here all here but I haven't posted, we filed in February and I'm now at the stage where I'm waiting for my interview - how long did it generally take for people to be contacted? I hear you on finding the  process a little daunting!

Hi there,

You haven't completed your timeline... so have you already received your approval from USCIS (your NOA2)?... and documents sent to the NZ embassy?

Its easier to track and make comments if you complete your timeline..

Cheers,

Anyone who has been to their Auckland Interview recently for K1 - did you just take the letter from employer and minimum 3 payslips (as their information mentions) or did you need to supply tax details also? It looks to me like the present income details are sufficient, but just checking... thanks.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY    Fiance was approved for his Visa yesterday! He said the interview was super easy and the guy was really nice. Hopefully I can get him to post a more detailed recap on here like some of you all have done. Thanks for all the help, because of you guys he knew what hotel to stay in he knew there was a little coffee place nearby and everything to expect. I think it probably made it a lot less nerve wracking for him :) Im so excited to FINALLY be done with this part of the process. We sent in our I129F last august, so its been a long journey! Still dont get to see him for another month, but compared to the last 9 months this month im sure will fly by! :D Thanks again for all the help everyone, and Im sure ill stay on these boards as the process continues :)

Awwww... hey you two.. Congratulations. Really happy to hear it all went well. I'm sure that even though the interview was relatively easy its a tough day to go through. All the best from hereon. (F)

Wooohooooooooooooooooo !

Its not like you morph into a different species every 2 years and grow new hands with new fingerprints!!! :P *shakes head* And they haven't even let you know if the recent prints taken for the second time were captured successfully or not.. So you are left in the dark as to what is going on.

So it has been almost 5 months now since you filed your ROC... I truly truly hope that you hear something very soon!! *huge hugs*

Thanks Andie! :) How is it going with your K1? I'm sorry i haven't looked at your timeline.. When did you file the K1 (I-129f)

Looking at what you and Cdneh are going through, I have this vision of endless buildings with multiple files for everyone piling out of boxes - nothing seems simple. I guess there are reasons but it makes it difficult to just get on with 'life'.

We initially filed in March last year just before finding VJ (sadly), only to wait 5 mths for a denial. He discovered after the petition was sent that some papers were left out and he sent them in when he received the NOA1, with a copy of it showing our file number etc. We should have just sent a new petition. Anyway, the second pack never found the first (no surprise really, especially knowing what we know now). We tried to get it reassessed etc, but got no further. We have had all sorts of ups and downs since them, family things, health etc. We have everything ready for the new petition and it is due to go any day now.

If it was over here, I could probably just talk to someone at the local office and actually get to talk to a 'live person'. Its stressful when you are dealing with such a big system and you can't get any feedback, as you already know (several times over). Makes dealing with the NZ IRD look like a picnic !

I think we only gave them 6 at the most of payslips, so i think you will be ok :)

Ok, thanks Kiwiana....

Just reading yours and Cdneh's latest on your ROC ...what a mission !..hope it all comes through soon for you. (F)

Hey, just been catching up on some recent posts on here. Lots of activity and people completing the long haul. Wow.. great work! Congrats!

Just a question about the Auckland Embassy... I have read in the past that they only require 3 payslips and a letter from the sponsors employer as proof of sufficient income. Is that correct, or do we have to go through the whole back tax thing?
I think this is an NZ specific issue so just querying with NZ members thanks.
