Hi friends,

My wife is not going to be able to get her passport changed to her married name until June, because she cannot travel to Manila to take her CFO class (a Philippine requirement) until her job ends at the end of May. Meanwhile I am ready to send her DS-230 and other documents to the NVC, except we have been waiting for her to get her passport changed. I am wondering if this is necessary. Can we send her papers to NVC with her maiden name in her passport still? I know all the other documents will have her maiden name, except the marraige certificate. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks a lot for responses.

you know, part of me is beginning to wonder if they're planning now on only having one service center specialize in the I-130s, in his case, CSC. So many people are being sent there and so few are remaining at VSC. Though one would think they would make an announcement about this or something.


Yeah, I think they did make an announcement about that a few months back. Something about having certain offices specialize in certain types of cases, to help speed up the process. Sorry I can't find that announcement on my computer, I must have deleted it.

Too much information! It has been suggested in various forums that you should only provide the required information and no more, to avoid further questioning. Well I hate to say I've become victim of this scenario myself. When I sent the affidavit of support to NVC, I put that my wife has $300 in her account. I knew it was meaningless for support purposes, but since my income is insufficient i just decide to list it. (We have a joint sponsor, so my I-864 is really just a formality in my opinion.) Anyway the NVC has sent me a rather vague RFE and after an equally vague email response to my inquiry, it seems they are asking for proof that my wife has $300 in her account. Not a big deal, but it'll be causing us a couple weeks delay. Just thought I'd let people know, don't volunteer information that isn't necessary, and if you do, remember to include proof, no matter how trivial.

Oh, it's good to see action in this topic again. Here's my news--approved! I just received the letter in the mail, Notice Date Dec. 28th. So happy to see those touches last week were not an RFE.

Update me please: I-130 approved December 28. 77 days!

There hasn't been a lot of activity on this thread recently, but hey, guess what? Some time within the last 2 hours I was touched! From what I've noticed, that almost always means either an RFE or approval is imminent. Obviously, I'm hoping for the latter. Of course, I'll probably be checking my status every hour now until it happens. I also hope the rest of the people on this list receive some touches soon, as I'm nearly the last one on the list. :energetic:

Yep, very frustrating. CSC was moving right along with approvals, then got to the end of September submissions and ground to a halt, leaving the few of us from October sitting twiddling our thumbs and toes. :( I've been watching the estimate of approval in the VJ timelines, and mine went from an original of February 6 to January 2, then in the last week it went back to February 6. I'm guessing at this point no more approvals until January, but I hope I'm wrong.

I know what you mean.. i've been reading about Jame's shortcut's and post's from other who have used it.. i'm going to get my hands dirty over the weekend and experiment with the barcodes!

P.S. I don't know who Jame is, but by the looks of things he is a saint :innocent: for putting this info out there for the rest of us. He should have copy righted his short cuts.. could have made him self a lot of $$$$$$$$$

James was(is) a saint. He was one of those very helpful to all type of guys here on VJ. Unfortunately I believe some people wronged him last year and, since he was pretty much finished with the process, decided to leave VJ. Too bad too, but I'm sure he's enjoying having a life.

My check appeared in my online banking overnight. I read the recept # from the back of the check and was able to check the status of my petition on the USCIS website. It took 6 days since the date they received it to the check appearing in my banking. And the receipt date is 4 days after they received the petition.

Waiting for that first indication of acceptance is difficult, isn't it? I mailed my I-130 on the 12 and they received it on the 14th (this is at CSC). Now I check my online banking about 10 times a day hoping to see the check listed, but nada yet. I don't expect to the the NOA1 in the mail for at least another week, but what's taking so dang long with the check?

Wouldn't it be great if there were enough members of this form who lived in CA that could picket out in front of the CSC office. I'm still trying to think of some sort of "catchy" slogan we could yell. Anyone have any ideas??? It probably wouldn't get anything done any quicker, but at least we could keep ourselves "occupied" while we wait, right? Right???

I have heard that several years ago (before I joined VJ) that is exactly what happened. I believe CSC was running even slower at the time.

But seeing others receiving their NOA2 in a timely manner is always a relief and encouragement. I wish I could get Fely to post here on VJ, but she just doesn't feel comfortable at a computer. Congratulations on the progress. I know exactly how you are feeling. I was so happy myself last Saturday when I was able to check my own petition status online and found it had also been accepted. I'm away from home for 2 weeks but I'm sure that NOA1 will be in my mailbox when I get back. Now let's hope CSC is ready to process our petitions and get them approved and out the door quickly. :yes:

On my last trip to the Philippines I stated that I was going to get married. I swear that I was put through more scrutiny than any of my previous trips, though it may be just because of the recent terrorist arrests in Europe. Still, I think the advice to not give too much info is good. Perhaps state that you are visiting friends. That seems harmless and truthful.

Are my eyes deceiving me or did someone get a NOA1 to NOA2 in only 23 days out of CSC for a Phil Fiancee VISA? Please tell me I'm nuts and I don't see what I think I see.


Something I've noticed while examing the timelines is that most of them with a particularly short NOA1 to NOA2 timeline have a much longer time from mailing to NOA1, often a month or more. For instance, I believe the couple you are seeing here mailed their petition on August 8, but did not receive their NOA1 until September 25th.

And most that have a longer NOA1 to NOA2 time, say 50 days or more, have a shorter period from mailing to NOA1, often less than a week.

featherB is correct, if you marry her while in the Philippines you will have to start over again. The K1 visa requires the marriage to take place in the United States after the visa is issued. If you get married in the Philiipines you will have to start over with the I-130 petition for a CR-1 (some also try for the K-3 assuming it will be quicker, but that is not necessarily the case anymore). I sent my I-130 about a month ago and am hoping my wife will receive her visa sometime around June, an 8 month wait.

Yes, at least one reason is that they tend to work in blocks on different kinds of cases. Last month they were working hard on K petitions, maybe this month it's AOS or something else. Once they get back to the K and CR visa petitions, we'll see a lot more approvals. And I sure hope that's soon, if I can't be with my wife this Christmas I'd sure at least like the present of an approval on the petition.

Well I'm a mid-October filer (I-130 but so what) and I'm already manically checking for a touch. I know I'm probably 20 to 30 days early, but I just gotta, know what I mean?

What I really wanted to say is it looks like CSC is working on AOS applications right now. They seem to work on a particular kind of application in blocks. So I'm sure as soon as they get back to petitions we'll be seeing lots more approvals, and hopefully that will be before Christmas.

Actually Dean, have you ever been there in April or May? I've been in January, February, April, May, June, and September, and believe me, you CAN tell the difference in April and May.
