Africa: Sub-SaharanAP after Visa Approved

Sometimes in higher fraud rate countries, the Embassy will run an additional background check on the beneficiary after the interview and prior to actually issuing the visa. It could be that your fiancee has a common last name and it had a hit in a database somewhere or the Consulate simply wants to do one final check before issuing the visa.

Also, sometimes it is a random AP where the Embassy takes a certain percentage of petitions and subjects them to an additional check before issuing the visa.

In Middle Eastern countries, EVERY beneficiary is subject to AP because of the world climate.

I hope your AP is short and the visa is issued soon. Best of luck!

Alan

Oh No! I hope this doesn't happen to us, My husband needs to start his training ASAP for Soccor.

Africa: Sub-SaharanHusband and family think I am RICH! Hellllpppp
QUOTE (Leedah @ Jan 19 2008, 05:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am in need of some advice. And it is a doozy.

My hubby is from Gambia and naturally thinks that I am rich. I have been able to travel their several times off of Buddy Passes given to me. Only pay $300-400 (taxes) for a roundtrip trip ticket. Couldn't afford to go otherwise.

Basically, I am not rich and live almost check to check when I don't watch it.

So, my so seems to get upset and thinks I don't love him because I can't send money. He truly believes that I am playing games and hoarding money when he is barely eating. Mind you the U.S. dollar gets about $21 of theirs, so whenever I would come, naturally I have a little extra just because of the exchange rate. Heck even going with $500 will net you a pretty sack of change in the exchange department.

Anyway, his "buddies" are filling his head with insane idea's that I must have married him to get "some". Many women actually come their to get a man to have relations with. I told him that I wasn't rich at all and and doing my level best to even get him here. (barely making ends meet for myself). Then I told him to look at my picture we took together again and think if I REALLY NEEDED to go to another country for a guy. He QUICKLY shut up and said yeah well.... (mumbling incoherent jargon). (hahaha. Need I say more.)

I am at a lost and sad from this whole situation. It doesn't help that I can call him (cheap phone cards) and he associates that (my ability to call regularly) with having loads of money. (even says "if you can call 3 times a day everyday, you must be rich.)

I am almost ready to stop the petition and wait until his head is on straight. lol
Any idea's?

HI my fiance is from morocco, when we frist met in person my mother and i flew over, and she paid for it. And of coures she got a hotel room and i stayed with him and his family, so they thought if she can afford to to thit then they are rich. I told him that we are not rice we are poor also. And then the 2 time i went over my mother paid for it also and again i had to say she paid for my ticket buy a card. The 3rd time I paid for my ticket my self and i told him i was coming with no money in my pocket. Then he knew i was poor. He is from a poor family and so am i I live from pay cheak now im home i have to find me another job cause i lost mine when i was over there, so now he know im poorer than him hahahahha. But with you being married to him it is hard for you, and i know that what he thinks, but you just have to say that you are poor and that even if both of you are poor you still love each other, and his friends are just jelouse.
good luck

I only have the "Order of Documents" in Thai- sorry I can't help ya out there.
But you can have her get it translated into Thailand pretty cheaply.

I left my fiance enough money for translations, copying, internet, plane ticket upcountry to her Amphur. But I didn't get copies of her passport as it was unused. I just assume we'll have to FedEx, DHL, or UPS. She'll be broke sooner than I thought I guess!

Which mail service do people use to Thailand?

Asia: East and PacificThailand - Packet 3

I was wondering if my fiancee and I wait to do the medical when our packet 3 arrives, how long will it take? Does it take long to get an appointment with the specific doctors in BKK? How long for the criminal check too?

Thanks

Bumrungrad in Bangkok does the medical exams and I've NEVER had to wait there. Not even for a specialist (aside from maybe 10-15 minutes in the seats at the check-in counter). It's not like the USA.

Criminal check/police report is at a specific police station in Bangkok. We are waiting so it doesn't expire. It needs to be recent too.

Khundawg, I was told and I've read; that we should get a couple copies of the medical exam from Bumrungrad. They said it's because the medical exam envelope should be sealed when you hand it over at interview. And that you couldn't copy it if sealed. So to use the same medical report for a green card you need a hospital copy.

It sounds like a subjective decision of the CO. So the question is, 'How sound is the commitment to support'? Is it reasonable to give it a go? What's the downside?

Of bigger concern for the OP though, is the open slander of this attorney. He could be in big Ka Ka if the attorney reads this!

I wasn't aware of that. Is this the case even if the statement is factual?

I'd like to learn more about the OP's income/VN connections/business myself, or I'd just be speculating and can't help. I do feel sympathy for someone caught in the pinchpoint of a technicality 100%.

While not in engineering, I am a US Citizen and worked in HCMC for a private Vietnamese company for nearly two years. I worked on a business visa, rented a home, etc.

Sorry I can't be of help regarding engineering, but the possibility is there.

VN may be like Thailand and virtually everywhere else in not allowing foreigners to take jobs from its citizens.

That's great info. Did you have a unique/in demand skill?

Asia: East and PacificEngineering Jobs in Vietnam
Hi Jenn,

The jobs in SE Asia are much sought after. The job searching experiences I am familiar with are in Thailand.
Mostly people work as English teachers, but there are jobs at the odd publication and also on the oil rigs. But there are workers from around the world competing for the oil jobs and he's be away for long periods most likely. VN may be like Thailand and virtually everywhere else in not allowing foreigners to take jobs from its citizens.

Wish I had better help.

Asia: East and PacificThink long and hard about everything you do

Hi everybody.
When Han and I went through out interview process we knew there were going to be challenges. I did go and visit her in VN twice and that was great for the interview, but we had no real Dam hoi, just a hand full of people there, we have 11 years age difference and I was previously married before. Well in the end at the interview everything worked out. Those of you on AR, just be patient as you have been and our prayers are with you. Those of you that are ready to interview, make sure all your ducks are in a row and tell your fiance to have complete confidence in what she says to the CO.

About some American cities being boring, We have you all beat. My wife and I have moved to the one place that global warming has had no affect on as of yet. That place being Fargo, North Dakota. The high temp today is 1° above zero. You ask, how does my wife from Vietnam handle this? She says, it's not were you live thats important, it's the love of each other and the bond that you have. We love it here, cozy up to the fireplace, while the snow quietly falls outside. Believe it or not, there is a VN resturant here in town. We are happy with our lives.

Bruce & Han

That's what Lek says to me. She really doesn't care if we live in Thailand or the USA. If I could educate my son there we'd all love to live there. But the Thai government is making foreigners get out sooner and sooner all the time even IF we could afford International School.

So I'll make my child miss a little school sometimes and risk my job to visit her in the meantime. No ploblum!

Chin up Matt! Like my fiance says, "Don't think too mut!"

You make me think too mut! :D

I'm going to risk losing my job and go a second time. It'll put me in debt too, but my soulmate is worth it. It will show a sustained relationship but how can a CO quantify the quality of love when all the sages through time are just as stumped as the rest of us. I guess nobody said it was 100% accurate and fair, huh?

I love Lek with all my heart, and she loves me, but all the phone cards in the world can't prove that deep feeling.

Asia: East and PacificNerve racking...

I think one thing can really help is for us to try to learn her language, culture, custom, to make sure she can get her type of food, to find her music, and find some Vietnamese friends (however this is a two-edge sword). My mother went through it with my father 32 years ago with one exception, they were already married for 13 years before moving to the states. And he used to tell how that he was the luckiest man alive and he loved her dearly until the day he died. The matter of fact, he got very unhappy when I brought home an American girlfriend from Wisconsin in 1988. He did not talk to her for 2 years until he was on his death bed.

Tony/Anthea,
Good advice. My fiance has her old best friend living nearby me already. We're lucky that way. Asian food is going to be our family outings, we figure.

You're dad sounds like a good guy, saying that about your mother. Lek and I say that to each other all the time, how lucky we are. We just can't get over it I guess, and I bet we're not alone there.
